2301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a way to avoid corruption on: January 07, 2016, 11:39:16 PM
I was watching a TED talk the other day that mentioned how Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies could be used as a way to bring transparency to political campaigns, welfare, government/state expenses and other similar areas. We as tax payers will be able to know exactly how much money is allocated for each area and how it is used.

I was thinking also that this could also become the norm for donation centers, foundations and charities.

What do you guys think?

interesting, where is the link?

The link is in spanish and doesn't really explain how will it actually work, it was just the idea of how we can keep track of how the state manage its money so I thought it was very interesting. I understand many of you come from countries like the US or western Europe where corruption and bad usage of funds is not as rampant as in my region (South America).

Either way, my idea for the the US would be to implement it in the political campaigns or charities. I know most already make their funds public, but with the blockchain it will be even more easy to control and harder to manipulate or falsify.
2302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are BanxShares as good as GAW Paycoin? on: January 07, 2016, 10:15:36 PM
I have a little more of 10 BANX, I suppose there's no such luck for me after all these comments but if anyone's interested I'm willing to hear some offers.
2303  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ugliest gambling site? on: January 07, 2016, 06:22:41 PM
I think Directbet site design doesn't compare with their service really, they should do something about it. I usually bet on sports there and it's very easy to use but it can definitely use a makeover. I've avoided to mention smaller sites or casinos that are not too well known since I don't think it's too fair.
2304  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2015-16 Regular Season Discussion on: January 07, 2016, 05:04:58 PM
Not a very interesting night, my pick would be Boston @ Chicago - Under 203.5pts @ 1.82.

Sacramento -8 @ 1.93 like CarlesPuyol mentioned would also be a wise choice today.
2305  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin risky? It actually feels very, very safe to own Bitcoin right now :) on: January 07, 2016, 04:32:12 PM
It's not really stable, it's better than stable! If you've bought like me 4 or 5 months ago at around $200 then it was always up. Of course it's a bumpy ride, but Bitcoin has been appreciating year after year, so it's completely safe to say that if you buy now, it will be worth much more in the next couple of years if everything remains relatively normal.
2306  Economy / Speculation / Re: Expect Bitcoin Price to Reach US$1,200 or More Next Year on: January 07, 2016, 04:26:51 PM
Bitcoin can definitely reach those values even sooner (it already did in the past even if it was a bubble). However we have to be worried about the impending doom of obsolescence and lack of demand. What's Bitcoin usage other than an commodity? It won't survive 5 more years if it doesn't find a niche and become a standard method of payment/transaction.
2307  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The easiest way to earn free bitcoins on: January 07, 2016, 04:23:20 PM
Like others have said, faucets may work if you scale the whole business up, so if you have your own server and develop and maintain 20-30 faucets sites, the numbers may start to work. But that could be applied to any kind of business, you will have to take some risks and put a lot of time to make it work while there are no guarantees.

I'm still waiting for OP to share his "method" though.
2308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So...bitcoin is now a national currency on: January 07, 2016, 03:43:20 PM
While the original article of this thread s more of a joke than real news, the Isle of Man may not have adopted Bitcoin as a local currency yet but it's already known as the Bitcoin Island...

2309  Economy / Speculation / Re: Im getting that feeling again on: January 07, 2016, 03:36:31 PM
There's a chance it may drop around or below $400 in the next upcoming months, but if that happens be sure it will reach $500 and possibly $600 right after that. 2016 will close again with rising values just as every year with Bitcoin but it's not all constant.
2310  Economy / Gambling / Re: LuckyBTCCasino.com - Provably Fair - HTML5 Mobile games on: January 07, 2016, 03:30:22 PM
It's working fine for me today. Yes I've used shapeshift a lot and it's a great service, however as some sites accept different altcoins I thought it was a nice addition. I think a better feature would be accepting no accounts deposits/withdraws on the fly for quick casual betting, that would benefit both sides like I said in a previous post.

As I said above for the name BtcCasino I really don't think any alts are needed to help it a long my guess is if you ask any of the popular gambling sites do many people deposit alts they will say no.

You're very right about on the fly accounts that can be a great addiction to this casino. I may pm the admin and see if that is something he can introduce in the near future. I will reply back here when I hear something.

Yes I agree that maybe alts are not really needed, it will only create confusion, I didn't take into consideration that BTC is already in the casino name. But no accounts betting would be a major pull in my opinion. A lot of casual gamers (specially with Bitcoin) just want to bet a few bucks. That's why Dice and Satoshi Mines are so popular and bring in so much money, it's very easy to play (and to lose hehe).
2311  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2015-16 Regular Season Discussion on: January 07, 2016, 02:26:23 AM
Hehe, I've called the Knicks pick, sadly I didn't bet on it but the odds were great, 3.6. The Cavs were bound to win today although it could've gone the other way, they just caught fire. The Wizards played a hell of a game with such short rotation.
2312  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a way to avoid corruption on: January 06, 2016, 10:57:43 PM
Exactly it will be all "open source". Plus it should be very easy to investigate if there is a discrepancy.

Either way, the paradigm shift is that we would all know how much money a certain department or branch has. If there's a payment sent (to hire a cleaning company for example) everyone interested can corroborate it. It won't destroy corruption but at least public funds will be handled in complete transparency.
2313  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a way to avoid corruption on: January 06, 2016, 09:00:30 PM
Definitely! Well maybe the government in place won't like the sound of it, but an up & coming party can definitely propose it and many people will welcome it in a second! Then all of a sudden it becomes mandatory and the standard way of doing things.

Now, let's get not too carried away, they will most definitely never use Bitcoin itself I guess, but they could use a cryptocurrency tied to the local one for example. The point made is that this is definitely something I can see being used in the real world and solves a problem. Bitcoin in general is a unique technology but there's not much use for the average person that they cannot do with Paypal, Banks or CCs.
2314  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does this happen to you? on: January 06, 2016, 08:33:55 PM
If the site is legit this shouldn't happen. However I think this happened to many of us in different areas, it's Murphy's Law basically hehe. Either way, I would advise you bet for fun and entertainment, bet what you can afford to lose (consider it gone the minute you bet it) and stay away from Dice sites really.
2315  Economy / Gambling / Re: HYIP = Gambling on: January 06, 2016, 08:31:39 PM
I think he has a point although you can argue that HYIP sites are full blown dishonest compared to Casinos. Casinos tell you that you can win money and that's actually truth in theory. HYIP promises ridiculous percentages and then run with your money.

Either way, I've never put any money into these sites and I don't recommend them of course but I've used giveaways money to "invest" and had good luck I must say. The key is not to get too greedy. They don't last more than one week.
2316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a way to avoid corruption on: January 06, 2016, 08:19:57 PM
I think in theory its still posible. Cheesy
But in reality it's impossible because of government corruption is inevitable, and with bitcoin anonymously will be more easily corruption.

Well in this case it won't be anonymous of course, that's the point. You would know each "account" and you can see how much it spends, maybe I didn't make myself too clear.
2317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a way to avoid corruption on: January 06, 2016, 08:16:24 PM
I think this is one of the most doable ideas really since we are not talking about companies or banks. And it can be just small to start, if I had a little charity I would definitely advertise this as a way to ensure safety and attract more donations. Once the ball starts rolling, this could be copied very fast by others if it works.

Thanks for the info, lol, he's paying shareholders with more "monopoly" money. Projects like this are the ones that give cryptocurrency a bad name.
2320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are BanxShares as good as GAW Paycoin? on: January 06, 2016, 07:50:45 PM
I have like 11 BanxShares I got in a giveaway here. Every month it pays some interest and sometimes I check how much I have. I've recently found that it cannot be sold and I've tried to find information regarding the exchange and currency. Will it ever get out of the ICO phase? What do you guys think?
