2961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: cash remains the only option if there's an emergency on: October 18, 2015, 04:41:08 AM
Depends on the severity of the emergency I would think. If you had a major worldwide disaster which killed off half the population and a majority of crop land etc. you'd expect that cash and gold be less relevant simply because there would be demand for things like food and shelter whereas cash and gold are useless (unless they can buy things). If society recedes far enough you would simply return to the barter system - it takes society as a whole to choose a currency/token for it to be useful.

Food would be scarce and valuable but food rots. Gold will be king again, it still has the same properties so if we regress to that state then it's only natural that we adopt it again.
2962  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: October 18, 2015, 04:32:11 AM
Definitely both. Anyway, a reply here got me thinking, what would happen if a country bought a huge market share of Bitcoin? Like 5 million BTC. What would be the effect of that? And why it didn't happen so far? we know governments don't like it because of tax evasion and illegal activities, but maybe they just see Bitcoin as a joke?
2963  Other / Off-topic / Re: TV Series Recommendations... on: October 18, 2015, 04:25:51 AM
I always recommend Banshee because it's not that popular and obvious. It is no masterpiece of course, but it's plenty of fun and binge inducing.
2964  Economy / Economics / Re: A Resource Based Economy on: October 18, 2015, 04:24:05 AM
I think we are slowly evolving to what we all deep down know we are supposed to be. But then life gets in the way and our animal instincts take over and rip everything apart just to survive in the now. 1.000 years is nothing in the big scheme of things and look how much we've accomplished. At the same time we are still plagued by the same ignorant desires and whims. 1.000 years more or less is nothing in terms of evolution, we are evolving make no mistake, but that takes aeons not centuries.

Concepts like these are amazing in theory but we are still very far away for them to be real. Perhaps some kind of catastrophe forces us to adopt a resource based economy, but I don't see that happening by human choice any time soon.
2965  Economy / Speculation / Re: How much do you think 1 Bitcoin will be worth in 2020? on: October 18, 2015, 04:19:42 AM
The most realistic options to me are either somewhere between $1000 and 10.000 or practically nothing, crash and burn. Bitcoin can benefit from another world economic crisis that can start in the next couple of years. I said crisis not collapse, a big collapse can make Bitcoin useless instantly really.
2966  Economy / Economics / Re: Best way to make a living online? on: October 18, 2015, 04:15:21 AM
I'm a graphic designer, my skills are what pay the bills really, how I do it happens to be online since it's more efficient these days. It all depends how good you are at your profession. If you are an amazing designer, you will earn a lot.

From my point of view, if you are a good designer AND developer, you can visualize and bring to life any ideas you have for an online business in a weekend with minimal expenses (other than domain/hosting). If that doesn't work that well, you can then sell the site for some profit and repeat. Those are to me the best skills you can have today in this world (plus some good business/marketing background).
2967  Economy / Economics / Re: Best way to turn 2BTC into 4BTC on: October 18, 2015, 04:08:11 AM
You can ask the same question with $2000/4000. Now here is the ugly truth, you can invest that very safely and get a small return, eventually you'll double it. The problem is that Bitcoin is the wild west, there are so many scams that you never know, even exchanges are under fire every now and then. Only a handful of companies and sites can be considerable safe. So my advice would be to invest fiat money instead, you'll have more options and then exchange that to Bitcoin. You can maybe split the 2 BTC into fiat and BTC, and try your luck though, so there's no risk of losing it all.
2968  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: how to exchange bitcoin to paypal? on: October 17, 2015, 03:50:09 PM
Starting from today you can fund your PayPal account using Bitcoin with this service: https://www.coinimal.com
It is fully automatic and gives you the current Kraken price.

This looks good as I also don't have many reliable alternatives, hopefully it works well and it's trustworthy.
2969  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Bitcoin better that fiat? on: October 17, 2015, 04:02:06 AM
Yes but the fees will eventually start to be more expensive after halving right?
2970  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: October 17, 2015, 03:50:09 AM
If Bitcoin wasn't banned during the Silk Road fiasco then I find it very improbable that they will ban it now that it's accepted by companies like Microsoft, eBay and others. Plus there are a lot of other companies and billionaires that invested large sums on it. However, the nature of digital currencies and "anonymous" transactions will always appeal to money laundering activities in my opinion so it's not out of the question.
2971  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Everyone looses in the long run on: October 17, 2015, 03:38:03 AM
I do agree that the house edge always gets you, now I'm not a gambler at all however in my early years I used to go to a local casino for half an hour and win around $15-30-50 a day. It was in an electronic type roulette. I swear I somehow learned a pattern where certain numbers kinda started to fall which eventually lead to me betting on number zero and win big.

The moral of the story is that, while I did this for a month or so and I was very disciplined (cashing out after I hit 0 or other number), one night I thought I was invincible and started playing BlackJack because I wanted more. I think I loss 30-40% of my winnings so far in that one night. So even if you somehow manage to get good in a game, a bad streak or a bad decision will take it all away eventually. The casino knows that when you win, you will come back to lose it all sooner or later.

I know what you are wondering, so why don't you just kept playing on the roulette? I did for a little while, but they eventually closed it and then later upgraded it for a new one. There was no pattern to learn on this one...  Cry

I wanted to ask you guys because I've never had any problems using Shapeshift and DGB, I know they may have higher fees but it is as straight forward as it can be and never gave me any problems except some failed transactions (and their support is amazing). Why nobody mention or use it more? Should I try another exchange?
2973  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Free electricity on: October 16, 2015, 06:27:34 PM
Also you can look into mining altcoins that are easier on your hardware and then buy Bitcoin with that on a exchange. There's a list with the most current profitable altcoins to mine that is updated every day.
2974  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Free electricity on: October 16, 2015, 06:26:23 PM
I mean you have free electricity, you can invest in expensive hardware but you can also use some old machines and everything you get will be profit. Really, it you can buy or get some obsolete PCs (anything you can plug in basically) you will still get some good bits per day I guess right? You will also need some space though.

2976  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoins todays price. on: October 16, 2015, 06:15:59 PM
Well they say great traders sell when it's going up not at the very peak...so selling now sort of makes sense in that way. It depends on each case, many people are just speculating with Bitcoin in the short term, if they bought a good amount at $220 and they sell at $260 I can't say that's a bad trade...
2977  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★DigiByte|极特币★★[DGB]✔$250k Investment, DigiByte Gaming, #DigiByteTip, DigiSpeed on: October 16, 2015, 06:13:08 PM
Nice to see the new DGB price becoming steady, many still think this was just a quick P&D but from my small experience even if DGB falls a little in the next weeks/months, I feel the coin already established itself among many other heavyweights.
2978  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoins todays price. on: October 16, 2015, 06:03:02 PM
It's not as easy as to sell when everybody is buying. Right now I don't think anybody is selling, they are holding since the rise is steady and it's not worth to do that. I think this is a good time to buy Bitcoin (I've bought at $230). But that's only if you think this is worthy medium or long term. I don't see a sudden spike to $1000 anytime soon, but it could be a possibility for 2020, even more. On the other hand, we all know Bitcoin could also be worthless in 5 years.
2979  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: cash remains the only option if there's an emergency on: October 16, 2015, 06:00:02 PM
Completely agree, if there's a energy blackout or similar, like preppers stuff, all digital technology will be reserved for the elite and government. Bitcoin shares some nice ideologies but if fiat money falls (US Dollar basically) Bitcoin won't save the day, we'll have huge infrastructure problems and possibly imminent wars for resources.
2980  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 16, 2015, 05:54:41 PM
I agree that no one ever knows anything for sure with Bitcoin, but I also agree that no one is selling right now, it's not really worth it in my opinion unless you bought a huge amount at $200-220 or so and even then I would personally hold to when it reaches $300-400, the price has been rising steadily lately.
