2321  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are Merits to you? on: September 11, 2019, 12:46:15 PM
Hehe nice thread. I thought that we moved on from the merit subject months ago. /jk

Merit gave me what I wanted the most, my Avatar (I still get personal messages from time to time to take in away but that's another story).
When it was introduced I had no idea what impact will have on the forum. I was just sure that I probably won't get enough merit to reach Full Member in a year (I was Member when the merit system was implemented), but I didn't focus on that. When you see someone like Nullius you know that you cannot compare to his knowledge, humor, charisma so merit is not something for you. So I kept posting like I did before and kept exploring the more and more about the forum, bitcoin and blockchain. I always try to be helpful no matter if it is appreciated or not, it's just the way some people are. So thanks to this I got some merit and manage to rank up to Full member. Since then, the merit is just something I can distribute to the others. I like when I get some, (sure everyone is feeling the same) but after I got the needed for Legendary, I see no point in getting more, maybe only to distribute it to the others (it's good to be a merit source, tho).
What I prefer is to make this forum a better(safer) place for the newbies and help the mass adoption. This is something you should focus on.
I'm not a full-time programmer, I can't really be helpful on the technical battlefield, but what i can do and like is to fight those who try to go around the rules. That's what I hate and dedicated quite of my time to catch those.
So the merit is just a side effect of what you do for the forum.

Finally a solution to this problem. Thank you theymos. Looks a bit complicated at first but if I understand it correctly I should be careful where I post if I disclose a spam or scam so I don't unintentionally bump their topic. Sometimes I post just to follow whats happening on the thread.
Anyway I'm closing my other thread.

WOW!  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Such a cool prize!  Cool

Thank you very much to iasenko for running the giveaway and of course ChiBitCTy for the putting up the prize! I actually used to work at a real world casino... so a BTC loaded casino chip is kinda neat Wink

@iasenko, I dropped you a pm.

Great news, Congrats again,  you need just to contact ChiBitCTy and he will arrange the shipment free of charge as agreed.
I'm actually really happy that you got the prize, you are one of the most helpful members around here and you really deserve it.

Thank you all for fighting the spam and scammers.
We have another great news from today form Theymos. I think all together we made a positive change.

Oh such a nice thread, my RP 4B 4gb is on its way to me so when it comes (and hopefully I'll have enough time to play with it) I'll post some stats as well. Waiting to get FTTH sometime by the end of the month, then I can give real values.

I have some old laptops laying around - i3,i5, maybe I can make a comparison between them.

Back to the giveaway. 24 hours have passed and I got no answer from kenzawak.
That means that we will roll again.
This time the raffle will follow the LoyceV's suggestion (see the quote below) and take into account the last two digits of the hash as a winning number.

Target block :594220 good luck everyone.

@LoyceV. You know, that was the first time for me to host a raffle, so I got in contact with krogothmanhattan to ask for tips so I used his way of picking up the winner. You pick the last digit(s) from the hash, can be a single digit or in case there are more you pick the last one.
I think krogothmanhattan usually uses all characters: 0-9 and a-f. That gives 16 possibilities for 1 digit.
For what you're doing, the problem is that there's not always 2 numbers in the last 5 characters. A simple fix would be to omit the 5 character limit, and use as many characters as you need to get 2 numbers.
So if I take block 575970 for example: hash 00000000000000000010f46e3c11d28bd45958bb485fdaffad4de9dcadefff1c would mean "fff1c" and thus a "1" as winner in your system. I suggest to use the whole hash, and have "91" (00000000000000000010f46e3c11d28bd45958bb485fdaffad4de9dcadefff1c) as winner.

Conclusion,
The account was hacked a few mounts ago and it looks like there is no way the owner to prove his ownership as the only ETH posted address was edited according to DarkStar_. I'll sent a PM anyway.
Admin can see all edited versions of a post, and I would expect Cryptios to have the same access.

If I get no answer from the winner until tomorrow which I'm sure I won't , for the new raffle we gonna use your way of choosing the winner.
I talked to ChiBitCTy and we agreed to wait until tomorrow Smiley

you reffering that if the hash ends like > ff04e5 then the winner should be 45, right?
From what I understood the winner should be 5 because it's the last singe digit, maybe I'm wrong.

Let it be like it is now, (you have a higher chance to win ) and chage it for the next one, if there will be a next one. Smiley

We have a winner # 30

Last activity date is 17 of July and surprise, the account was hacked, according to the last feedback..
Anyway I'll try to get in contact with the guy and if he can sing a message from an old address.

If not .. we roll again and I'll take him out of the list.

Conclusion,

ow we gonna do it, it's simple. A raffle between all the members posted in our thred, I choose a block and the last digits of the hash address of the block decided the winner*. You can see that we are less than 100 so we will keep repeating until we have a winner.
The numbers are given based on most active in the thread so no changes allowed. (except that I added myself at the fist possible position)
The reward as I posted before is just symbolic 1mBTC
The reward this time is a Physical Satori chip (loaded w .001) donated by our fellow member ChiBitCTy
Thank to ChiBitCTy for doing this.
Note that the chip will be sent directly from ChiBitCTy and he will cover the shipping fees as well.

*- examples :

~2c24f - winner 24
~fa00c - winner 0
~fce3a - winner 3

I will PM the winner and he has 24 hours to contact me or post in this thread.

If I get no answer from the winner in the next 24 hours after the end of the raffle, we choose another one until the reward is received Smiley
Additional notes :
The winner should provide a valid address where the chip should be sent to, so if the winner have concerns about giving away his address, we can make another agreement or find another winner.

Let us go for block 594000

Good luck everyone.

There are many techniques but the most often I use is a search based on "keywords". Some people tend to use not so often used words and then it's easy to find plagiarism in the search results. Word spinners made our detecting work more difficult but we still get those from time to time.

I hope you are not asking just to fine-tune your copy-paste spamming bot to fly under the radar /jk

2336  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos.Fake conversations becoming a serious issue. on: September 09, 2019, 05:32:53 AM
Just nuke the thread and be done with it.

If everything was that easy... I would love to get it trashed but you need a proof that those accounts are really connected to the service otherwise you are just shooting in the dark.

If they are not reporting spam they are very likely using bumping service. It doesn't need to be trashed, just locked for few days. If "they do it again", it can always be locked for more days and this would make payed bump services pointless.

It can be done like this:

1) report thread which you suspect it is being bumped by "fake" accounts
2) don't report spam accounts
3) let moderator do the rest of the job

If they continue doing so - trash it. Less work for everyone.

Thanks, I've tried that as well but my report was marked as good but the thread is still open, so I decided to focus on the spammers instead because I see no other option.

The situation with  JollyGood is a bit weird, he is accusing them of being a scam project but in a way that he is provoking again hundred useless bumps. He maybe trying to prevent some newbies from falling in the scam trap but still, it can be aslo a new technique for advanced bumping service, having someone to argue with. This is just a hypothesis...
JollyGood is very persistent in posting many times to expose a scam. I don't think he gets paid for bumping the threads.

I do not accuse him because I didn't have time to look at his post history but referring to his positive trust ratings I assumed he was from the "good side". I didn't reported any oh his posts. But again 200+ posts in this thread is a bit suspicious even though he has a positive trust rating.
My other assumption was if the spammers/bumpers have  one "good" account just to fight with and make kind of legit bumps. This should not be the case with JollyGood just that's where I got the idea from.

I banned Dorvei & Crypto_Boss. This is one of the things that should be looked into by an admin but it likely won't.

Great but what about the others? It's just a matter of time the other "suspects" to join the conversation... I'm talking about :
1. 255x (Full Member) OmDaN (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1098615) (Trust:  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=1098615) +0 / =0 / -1)  (1 Merit earned (history (http://loyce.club/Merit/history/1098615.html))) (BPIP (https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=OmDaN))

     6. 138x (Sr. Member) LilitKha (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1014849) (Trust:  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=1014849) +0 / =0 / -1)  (0 Merit earned (history (http://loyce.club/Merit/history/1014849.html))) (BPIP (https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=LilitKha))
     7. 112x (Full Member) sashu

    2. 240x (Sr. Member) JollyGood (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1016855) (Trust:  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=1016855) +3 / =0 / -0)  (89 Merit earned (history (http://loyce.club/Merit/history/1016855.html))) (BPIP (https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=JollyGood))

Note: some of the user info format is taken from LoyceV's post Smiley

Got the OK, so the URL & HTML encoding/decoding should be happening on all profile links now. Profile names with HTML symbols, spaces, or special characters would need to be encoded when they are requested from the profile page:
profile.aspx?p=<HTML & URL encoded profile name>

Great, than we can test it with those user names I have collected earlier, see below Smiley

BTW writing only bpip.org in a freshly cleaned browser still lead to an error. Sad
Just played a little but with BPIP today and I found that if you search for special characters it returns all the  usernames (I guess) stated with a special character. There is a list below.
Lets try searching for a ★ for example here is the result >

link to image

All the "?" in the resulst are leading to an error page >
https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=?

The first profile for example has the username >    £
