5830, 5850, 6850, 6850 on a single motherboard since last 2 months 24x7 non-stop, no issues

The price of 1 x 7990 is < 2 x 7970

nope here, mine needs a delay of at least 2 sec between a power down and a power up.
So if if power off the power supply switch and immediately power it on, no it won't boot up. but if i wait 2 secs or more it does respond. Quite silly I must say, esp. for brownout situations.

Take this with a grain of salt, but injecting 3ml Mobil 1 5W30 does wonders for my GPU fans, make sure you blot up any oil trickling out, so as not to attract dirt or fibers. I have had 3 First D fans crap out on me and with the Mobil 1 oil they have been running happily since last 6 months or so.

Not that much faster than Cayman 

Any speculations on which card would be best for mining.

Tahiti = 2048 ALUs, est. cost = $500+, power = 250Watt
Pitcairn = Same as Cayman 1536 ALU, est. cost=$299, power = 120Watt

I am rooting for Pitcairn.
