Why bother with them though? I can't come up with any reason I would use a 7990 over 2 7970s for mining. 5970s had some merit since it was easier to build high density rigs when a single 5870 only pulled 150W or less. But considering how well 7970s OC and how much power they take up when you do, what exactly is the point of using a 7990? Also add the fact that the 79xx cards have problems with leakage increasing (A LOT) at moderately high temps 70-75C+ and it becomes even less attractive.

If someone says "better binned chips" just no, go get 3x 7950s (almost 4).

because I can... and it may not be used for mining only, did you consider that?  what people do is their business.

7990 is almost as bad from a gaming perspective due to micro stuttering, just saying (even worse than 7970 in crossfire due to shit drivers atm). Also how does using your 7990 for other things make it better than 2x7970? 7990 fills no other market segment than for those who must have the best "single" card for bragging rights, been the same with all dual cards.

But if you want your 2x7970 cramped on the same PCB while paying more, getting a hotter card, worse driver support, worse OC, sure go ahead, it is fully within your right. It is also within my right to mock anyone that does buy one, gotta love freedom!

jealous much?

Can someone explain what's their fixation with Chikun / Chicken?

OK, terrible thought number 2, avalon ships batch 2 and 3 together along with all the asic chip orders mid july and the difficulty skyrockets as everyone turns on their asic at the same time and no one gets a decent ROI.
My thinking is more worse than you. Avalon got all the money of batch 2&3 and chips pre-order. Then disappear forever.

That was my first terrible thought :/
uh oh

It's a 3 day labor day holiday! good for them. Hope they ship from May 2
1806  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 28, 2013, 08:31:49 AM
Chinese are going to have holiday since tomorrow.
Therefore, Avalon team definitely will not ship batch#2 within April.
When does this holiday end?
1807  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [AVALON] - I got my ASIC Thread (Batch #2) on: April 28, 2013, 08:31:12 AM
Would be a shame if Batch 2 and Batch 3 customers took a punishing hit from all those Avalon chip group buys.  Avalon's success may very well bite it's own customers  Shocked
You may be right here, selling chips is much more easier than selling than manufacturing, assembling and shipping units.

Any news for Batch #2? Few B#2 units should have been shipped already.

Is it a possibility that the shipping unit is mining with the units first for a while and then shipping them?

you mean DHL mining them? why not, huh?

There's a middle-man between Bitsyncom and DHL IMO.
1814  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 26, 2013, 10:31:18 PM
Just noticed on my order page, the price is listed as ฿1,500.00 per unit.  Wink

Yes that is a side affect of switching the site to BTC only for batch #3

I see my orders for batch #2 listed in the USD value but with the BTC denomination

February 18, 2013    Processing   ฿4,500.00 for 3 items

while the batch #3 listing is correct

March 25, 2013    Processing    ฿103.24 for 1 item

I'd say it's time to ask for a refund in BTC! Value shown on order page of course.

Ha ha Smiley

I have the same issue. I initiated a withdrawal and funds were deducted from my account, and the Status shows as error, and the funds did not reach dwolla. Opening a support ticket asap. Thanks for the heads-up.

Wanted to say I am very pleased with the quick resolution of this issue by MtGox support!
