241  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paying using bitcoin on: February 24, 2024, 05:12:54 PM
Can you tell me how I can use my bitcoin in a shop that accepts bitcoin

Any shop, no matter it's online or physical, will accept bitcoin in the same way, since bitcoin is always online.

So if you don't want to use your phone, you can use a laptop for example, simply in the way you would do from home.
Just you'll need internet. And connecting to others' WiFi can be risky. So you may still need a phone for enabling mobile hotspot for your laptop...
Or, since your Ledger keeps your funds safe anyway, keep a partition/OS only for this kind of tasks, use your laptop with WiFi and reinstall it often.

243  Local / Discutii Servicii / Re: eXch – schimbă instantaneu BTC / LN / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20 on: February 18, 2024, 05:48:14 PM

244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gary Gensler: "Bitcoin is not that decentralized" on: February 18, 2024, 05:39:14 PM
Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley

I've seen a lot this misconception about Bitcoin decentralization. Actually I've just answered in another topic about this.
Gary Gensler doesn't understand that the decentralization of bitcoin is about the full nodes and the miners involved, not about the number of wallets containing big funds (and frankly, those are still plenty too).
And allow me to be a bit mean: maybe he confused it with Ethereum.
245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto White Paper on: February 18, 2024, 05:28:12 PM
Do you think Bitcoin has gone against Satoshi Nakamoto’s original intentions and embarked on a non-decentralized path?

I will try to be short, since I feel like this was already said in this topic, but in a way too long and complicated manner.
1. Bitcoin has change a lot since Satoshi has disappeared. Is it the best direction? That's highly debatable. Is it better than when was left by Satoshi? Yes.
2. The answer to your question is no. But I think that you don't understand what decentralization means here: it's not about the number of pockets holding funds, it's about how many centers mine it and how many wallets have their own copy of the blockchain.

248  Economy / Exchanges / Re: is a reliable vcc no kyc really attainable? on: February 17, 2024, 04:22:34 PM
It cost you a bit to find out limitations I suppose?

Actually it didn't cost me anything at all. But I am sure that many others were not this fortunate.
I had my days of being highly active on this forum and I've seen my fair share of complaints and discussions.
All I did was to connect the dots.

what do we use instead?

Legally you can use Visa/MC type cards meaningfully only with KYC. No matter they are physical or virtual.
If you don't want to go through KYC then the few options remaining are:

* Pay directly with bitcoin where possible. Yes, this may mean to choose the shops/services based on payment methods they offer.
* Buy and use gift cards (eg bitrefill and such)
* (not really as replacement for VCC, but still) Sell your coins for fiat at non-KYC exchanges or in person and probably buy/pay offline

249  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: A Bet on COPA - versus - Craig Wright $1.1 million dollars ! on: February 17, 2024, 03:57:27 PM
It's a known thing that making bets with newbies is a total losing "business".

If for some reason the non-newbie loses he will have to pay or lose credibility.
If the non-newbie wins the newbie will disappear.

So yes, a very good business for newbies and a very bad one for the rest.

I see @LeezHamilton has same kind of thinking like his idol.
250  Other / Off-topic / Re: Proof of identity vs authentication on: February 11, 2024, 08:09:47 PM
But , in case he/she/they decide to come forward proof of identity will have to follow a specific route , and that's through courts , at least that's my opinion .

I hope that this was meant as a joke.
So satoshi has done his best to hide his identity and create something that helps humans no longer need to trust others if they don't want to... and then... you expect him try to prove his identity... in court?
No. The court is helpful for stopping you know who to harass honest people, but won't do much in proving identity imho.
251  Other / Off-topic / Re: Proof of identity vs authentication on: February 11, 2024, 05:36:10 PM
Currently , most members here consider that anyone can come forward as satoshi by posting a message in here , or sending an email from satoshi's old email , or by providing a signed message from an early bitcoin address .

No. That's just a first step before we get to "start talking".

Plus, while you have some valid points, you still mix up apples with oranges imho, since satoshi cannot really come forward with proof of identity, since he hid his identity very well. So the only choices remaining are indirect clues, like authentication.

However, since the CSW trial is "front page thing", I will add that although I am 99.99% sure CSW is not satoshi, even if satoshi would come forward with claims there is a fair chance many people will not be convinced he is satoshi. Just because authentication can be stolen, we know that. (Well, in 2024 also proof of identity can be created with AI, so.. meh..)
252  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Browser app with a crypto wallet. on: February 11, 2024, 05:25:40 PM
Imho Bitcoin users are a bit more security conscious than altcoin users.
And having a wallet in browser pretty much asks for troubles.

And while I am not sure what you mean by "browser wallet", Bitcoin wallets did exist as browser extensions (and some probably still do). Maybe you start looking from here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5302257.0
253  Economy / Speculation / Re: Going against the grain. on: February 11, 2024, 04:53:08 PM
I think now is a good time to take some profits and set it aside.

Well, given the fact that halving is near (and not priced in yet) and ETFs came with quite an important buying pressure, plus the history of Bitcoin with a bull run/bubble after the halving... the numbers are suggesting that holding for some more months, maybe a year, may be a much better call.

However, everybody is entitled to an opinion and the truth is that there's no certainty in what will happen in the future.
Plus, day traders don't have the patience to HODL, even if this behavior has the potential to make them lose money (which some may and some may not recover).
254  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Virtual cards - Transform Your Cryptocurrency with PayWithUs! on: February 11, 2024, 11:12:38 AM
Interesting. Here only the chat bullet load up, all the rest is empty.
And I've tried also in Edge, so it's 3 browsers now.

It still works for me. we talking about paywithus.net, right?

Yep. Strange...

it smells like a scam.

That's what I was afraid of.
I wanted to check for oddities, thanks for doing that yourself.
Plus, if it's not a crypto card, it doesn't really belong here either...

Maybe they fixed it in the meantime, but by my side, the site is loading normally.

256  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto security: Could the combo of PoR and SAFU funds be the answer? on: February 11, 2024, 10:49:02 AM
The recent FTX debacle sent shockwaves through the crypto world, prompting top exchanges to take immediate action to enhance security and accountability. Among these measures, Proof of Reserve (PoR) and SaFu funds have emerged as popular strategies.

Proof of Reserve is now referred to as the Pillar of Transparency because it's a cryptographic technique that allows exchanges to demonstrate that they hold sufficient assets to cover their customer liabilities. By publishing a Merkle tree, a data structure that efficiently verifies the integrity of a large dataset, exchanges can prove that they have the necessary reserves to back their users' funds.

SaFu Funds also known as customer protection funds on the other hand is a Safety Net for Users cos  it demands a pool of assets is set aside by exchanges to protect users funds in the event of a security breach or insolvency. These funds are typically held in a separate wallet and are not used for trading or other business operations.

I feel these two factors should be worth considering when choosing a good exchange cos while PoR provides a snapshot of an exchange's financial health at a specific point in time, SaFu funds offer a more comprehensive safety net that can protect users in a wider range of scenarios.

Few exchanges like Binance, OKX and particularly, Bitget who recently took this hybrid initiative by implementing both Proof of Reserve and a Users Protection Fund seems to have enjoyed some decent trading volume on their platform according to quarterly and annual report by token Insight and coingecko. This dual protection strategy may be the way forward to avoid the FTX-like debacle in the future and it also provides users with the assurance of knowing that their assets are backed by both cryptographic verification and a dedicated pool of funds.

As the crypto landscape is fast evolving and improving from setbacks everyday should we rely on these two security concept and say we are a bit safe to trade on few of these exchanges that are committed to users assets security?

Isn't this is pretty much the same question as Could protection funds restore investors confidence back to CEX?
I start to have the feeling that somebody is paying for these "questions"....
257  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Virtual cards - Transform Your Cryptocurrency with PayWithUs! on: February 11, 2024, 10:34:28 AM

Please state if these cards can be loaded with Bitcoin.

🔑 How It Works? 🔑

Well, your website doesn't work. Nothing loads neither in Chrome nor Firefox.
Maybe you want to do something about that too.
258  Economy / Exchanges / Re: is a reliable vcc no kyc really attainable? on: February 11, 2024, 10:28:28 AM
Has anyone been scammed buying what they thought was legit vcc (no kyc) only to find out it was in fact stolen?
What percentage of vcc from legit sellers get cancelled months down the line? How common is this?
How many end up being a scam down the line?
How many will ask for kyc anyway down the line?
Who are the most trusted sellers here of legit vcc no kyc or does that seller not exist?

Since afaik Visa/MC don't allow anonymous cc, or if they do, they allow only some incredibly low lifetime total funds possible in them, ... the only options would be:
* stolen VCC
* scam
* some sort of deal where the real owner of the card will take some risks and you will pay some significant money for that. And even then, the real owner can close the card whenever he wants, a risk you have to understand

I was also hoping at some point for no-kyc Bitcoin cards. Now I understand the limitations.
259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could bitcoin become extinct? on: February 11, 2024, 10:14:03 AM
Can you elaborate on extinct though

Yep, OP should really do this, his question is way too vague and can get a lot of answers, most probably not what he would expect.

What are the chances of bitcoin going extinct?

Pretty much 100%
There are chances it will be superseded by something better - sooner or later
There are chances Bitcoin is not suitable if humans really conquer outer space
There are chances human race will go extinct and then the internet will go down, or electricity will go down, ..
Many other scenarios I didn't think of or I just don't care to ellaborate.

As said, state more clearly what you want... although, seeing that you just post one-liner questions, I expect that this won't happen because
* either you are a bot
* either you are a spammer in order to offer questions for a sig spammer to increase his quota
* either... both
As always, I hope that I am wrong and you're just unexperienced. Time will tell.
260  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: SeedSigner: Review on: February 08, 2024, 07:38:51 PM
You can install Linux on RPi Zero 2W which is the model I have. I have installed Raspbian Lite.
It is odd, though, because Raspbian Lite OS requires 520 MB of RAM, whereas Pi zero can handle up to 512 MB. Am I missing anything?

Is it me or you compare the disk (card) size the OS image file with the device's RAM capacity?
From the image file at the end more space will be occupied and also you don't have to keep all the OS files in RAM in the same time, right?
