1142  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tether and BUSD and usd inflation for long term savings? on: January 29, 2023, 08:43:05 AM
Hi
I am newbie about saving investments on my private wallets and some market wallets (binance etc.).
I have BTC, Tether and BUSD in my wallets. I dont want to risk it with buying btc and any other coins. Sometimes I withdraw usdt and busd by converting to my own domestic currency.
But holding money with usdt and busd is also has risks and plus usd inflation devalues the money over long term.
So, what do you suggest for me?

I don't like coins like USDT or BUSD. Such coins have 2 problems:
1. They are just as much eroded by inflation like the normal USD
2. They are issued by private companies and this sector is not properly regulated; so you have to trust those companies they'll keep their word. As bitcoiner I was taught to not trust individuals / companies (plus the fact you keep your coins in centralized exchanges' pockets poses another risk).

So you are under even higher risk than holding USD and also have your money eroded by (USD's) inflation. Not a good deal imho.

What I suggest? Especially since you don't want to invest into Bitcoin I have no suggestion for you. But no matter, I don't like to tell people where to spend their money, they have to decide for themselves.
If the money you're talking about is a lot, then usually a mixed bucket of investment vehicles is the key - bitcoin, real estate, gold, stocks, bonds - to allow your money grow (what you lose from one going down you may gain from another one going up). But if you have that much money you better hire somebody handle all this instead of asking from random people over the internet.

1144  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: invest in bitcoin or altcoin? on: January 28, 2023, 09:34:14 PM
I'm confused, should I invest in bitcoin or other coins?

In my experience the number of altcoins that worth it on long and very long term is almost 0 (compared to bitcoin!).
Also, especially as you are newbie and bitcoin is also not easy to master, I think that you better start with bitcoin alone and, in some 2-4 years you can maybe think on altcoins this the gathered experience.
With Bitcoin too you have to pay attention where you buy the coins from and how you keep them safely (if you are not technically inclined, then investing into a hardware wallet should be one early step).

Keep in mind that you should not invest money you don't afford to lose.
1145  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Looking for Help with transaction that never showed. on: January 28, 2023, 09:25:00 PM
Your skills in hiding the address are not great. You could have been simply paste your address to make our task a little easier.

You've received 0.00662557 with transaction a20d98e9e5d0a83bca00de0995b790dfc15b07ef1a9577f1f6496825fab92d89
The whole amount was sent away with transaction 83cda9ade4d168840d4cd4101debb7027e621d15df2d43c72513b5faa89238e4

The following things are strange:
* you don't know what has happened with your money
* the send away tx has a quite large fee (106 sat/vByte, 4.60$ in fees!)
* the send away tx was confirmed in the same block as the input tx

My conclusion is that your wallet is compromised, somebody else has scripts watching your wallet and steals your money.
I don't know if your device is also compromised, it can also be the case.

Make sure you stop using this wallet (you have no other funds on it, right?) and the new one you generate you do it safely on a clean device.
Also you should consider buying a hardware wallet...

In case it helps, I've found that one reason for removing builder keys from main branch is because they are (or should be) available on key servers:

1147  Economy / Services / Re: Cloud storage Space accepting bitcoin on: January 28, 2023, 02:21:44 PM
Can you mention the name of those sites where you have those free accounts for over 10 GB ? That might be helpful for me.

As I said, one is Dropbox (after the newbie steps and referrals). Also I said that the other had an early days offer; afaik is no longer for free, although I've found it very reliable over years and I have over 50 GB there: it's called Tresorit.

So unless you want to abuse Dropbox to get to at least 7.5-8 GB, you will have to look for new cloud services emerging and offering promotions.
Edit: a quick google search gave me this list, maybe it's not a bad idea to try out some of those (just make sure you read the minuses first).

Somewhat on this same topic I was eyeing the option for long term backups done on AWS Glacier systems (backups I hope I will never have to retrieve), but I didn't manage to fully understand what are the complete costs, so I didn't try that for now.
1148  Other / Off-topic / Re: My story and where it is now..... on: January 28, 2023, 11:24:36 AM
After the previous news I was so angry ... I am overly surprised by these news.

Good news/Bad news type update IMO. Great news that I no longer have to get a heart for now, but bad news or I should say mixed feelings because I had to sit in this hospital for nearly a month and semi wasted my time. I have so many questions. How was I so sick they needed to get me to status 2 and try to get me a heart? How did my heart suddenly decide to work? What does this mean if I get worse? Will I have to go through the work up process again? Will I stay on the list now? Just all kinds of stuff running through my head.

It's good that you have such questions. This means that you'll be more careful - with everything - and also hopefully make you ask a second (maybe also third) opinion, preferably from doctors that will give you their opinion instead of just reading what you've got here.
Medicine is not as evolved as we like to think and also not all doctors are equally qualified (or think the same). You'll most probably have to research a little more on this...

Like the saying, hope for the best, but prepare for the worse. I really hope that the worse has miraculously passed, but let's make sure it's so.

and also if there are any free cloud storage devices which offer more data storage ?
They don't.

What are you looking for? "Free" usually requires a credit cards so they can bill you for anything you go over the free limit. Without credit card verification, it would get abused.

Actually I do have 2 free accounts, on two platforms, both over 10 GB. One I was lucky to find out in their early days and they were giving huge space.
The other is well known, it's Dropbox. If one starts using Dropbox from a referral, he already gets more than the default 2 GB (gets 2.5 GB?). When I've made my Dropbox account, if one has made certain "learning" steps, has got more storage, I don't know if it still happens. But: by getting others make Dropbox account under your referral, you'll get 512 MB (I think) for each new person (I don't know under what limits). Yes, it can be abused if one has too much time (it needs to actually install and run Dropbox for those accounts) . But it doesn't need credit card.

So I expect that one, especially if he's knowledgeable and determined, can get over 5 GB at Dropbox without paying and without giving out card info. How safe is Dropbox privacy wise? Well.. I don't have too big expectations.

1150  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Be careful with saxydev; he is a possible scammer on: January 28, 2023, 10:27:45 AM
It still feels like tricking someone into having an excuse to create a scammer Flag. It was obvious nobody is going to pay $2000 for posting a link.
How about this: "The next user who posts after me, agrees to pay me 0.1 Bitcoin." That sounds like a casual agreement to me. But it shouldn't be allowed!

Yes, it was clearly a trap, hence my reluctance to flag that guy. But nobody has forced him to accept the deal.
saxydev was too keen to paint himself as.. something he isn't, hence he has fallen into that trap.
Sorry, but doing business for such an account/person is risky.
1151  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Criptomonede vs bani digitali emiși de Stat on: January 28, 2023, 10:15:09 AM

In rest.. ohoo.. stiu...

1152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Issues with Proof-of-Work on: January 28, 2023, 10:07:17 AM
Block difficulty is constantly changing so the system approaches on 10 min block times.

No, it's not. Read & learn, don't just assume.
Read about the difficulty adjustment period. The difficulty is adjusted every 2016 blocks, i.e. about every 2 weeks. That hardly can be seen as "continuously".

"Best" can be quantified by basic quantifiable metrics like transaction speed, value spent, number of transactions, who spent transactions, where in the network they are spent from etc. just depends what the network is designed/optimized for

What does transaction speed means in your idea? Because the "speed" is related to the fee and the miners. So that's not a valid measure. Fee, maybe, but not speed.
Who spent the transaction? You should not know nor care who spent the transaction. Period.
Where are they? Are you kidding me? On a proper decentralized network this should never matter.
Number of transactions and so on are highly dependent on mempool, and, each node has a different mempool, so we cannot compare apples with oranges.

So.. all this "best" logic has shown (I will agree with franky1 here) that you don't know nor care about what bitcoin is and how it works, you just came with some half-baked ideas that cannot work.
1153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Issues with Proof-of-Work on: January 27, 2023, 06:22:43 PM
To summarize:
POW:
Selects proposal based on what node is making it.(selects potential proposal based on node who first solved POW)

Ideal:
Selects proposal based on best proposal for the current conditions
(Selects node based on best potential proposal)

It's not any first, it has to meet the difficulty too. And this is important because it also regulates the speed of blocks being mined. "First" is relatively easy to quantify.

"Best" on the other hand... who and how to decide what's best, in an unbiased way, plus to make sure it's not cheated and also making sure the blocks are mined at the correct speed? (The who part is meant to be a trap, since the only correct "who" is the nodes.)
1154  Economy / Reputation / Re: A theory, DT in/exclusion and eventually the DT network on: January 27, 2023, 06:15:32 PM
I was expressing my guilt and I think it's not only you and me but most of us. There are some users who are very good at controlling their nerves, may be some of them feel less guilt.

Point taken. I somehow think that many are not even aware of their "guilt".

DT is a mess. Is it a bigger mess than the previous DT system? I don't know, I don't think so, but it's hard to tell. And even harder to make it better.
If I am asked to choice one then I would like to go back to the previous one. But that's not a right option. I think (I told it before too) this feedback system only should be limited to trading goods and stuffs between each others. People will still abuse but at least with the limit, the harassment to each others or to spread fear everywhere will reduce. The real newbies of the forum needs a space to breath and they will have it.

The thing is... bounties and signature campaigns are business. And they (especially signature campaigns) are tied to trust ratings. The prestigious campaigns will require prestigious users and reject the shady ones.
With signatures getting more and more widespread through the forum, leaving trust rating only to trading is not good enough.
And splitting trading related feedback (and maybe the trading related trust circles) from forum-wide generic rating (shady links, scam attempts, ...) and forum-wide trust circles - ie DT - may only make the things more difficult, but not more useful, nor better.

Mie mi-a sarit in ochi.

Si, dupa cum anticipasem amandoi, a meritat asteptarea!

1156  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Be careful with saxydev; he is a possible scammer on: January 27, 2023, 05:52:14 PM
Of course, it was no joke, but a written agreement. If saxydev considered it a joke then, again, it's his fault and, once more, he has to be responsible for the consequences of his actions.

OK, OK, you convinced me. I'll support too the tag.
1157  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: CrownChange.net - instant electronic currency exchange service on: January 27, 2023, 03:51:33 PM
I find it interesting that only newbies with one post are praising this exchanger.
It smells of accounts made by exchange's owner for promoting it. This is at very least shady...
I tend to agree with the established members of the forum: this is most probably scam, please be careful!
1158  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Lightning Network: intrebari / schimb de opinii on: January 27, 2023, 02:25:36 PM

As an advice, you may want to transform the first 10 entries also into double digits, else some may think they get some unfair advantage.
