(1) Why is so much money still flowing to MtGox where prices are higher and the ability to withdraw USD is practically non-existent.

This one also drives me crazy.

The only possible explanation I could find is that Kapeles has special customers which are somehow kept happy.

compare order books on multiple exchanges and you will know why, big players will most likely trade at gox because of the huge buy/sell support...
2462  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 28, 2013, 04:07:23 PM

you are what we call new money, people who are "so rich" should help some charities instead of acting smart and trashing people with "I have more you should listen to me" because this is just sick .

People "should" do, whatever the hell they please. No-one here needs classes in your morality.

freedom right ? although some people want to kill,rape,steal..... you know just saying.....

Ok now back to the topic, I apologize once again, I will stick to the topic and ignore posts that hurts my eyes.... everyone have the right to express their point of view, but I am going off-topic because of some of the "smart" posts... it wont happen again Wink

;TLDR Not being in Bitcoin today is too risky.

This is what I also believed before jumping in to be a full time market analyst. But with decent excel skills it is possible to model many situations where it makes sense to have less than 100% in bitcoins, or trade.

I have so many lines of data and charts, for example I have analysed the bottoms of the recent crashes to 5 minute precision in all of the exchanges to find out where I get the coins cheapest and in largest quantity, and how quickly it falls, how quickly it bounces back, what volume is reasonable to expect, so what size of orders are best to use. From next week I have a new half-time assistant doing mainly the analysis of exchange behavior, so that the capturing of tops and bottoms should happen with even greater precision.

Why I mentioned limit orders is that unless you have 24/7 trading (which I don't know if anyone has), it is reasonable to have quite a lot of fiat parked in the range 20-50% below the current price. The crashes are so deep and in a sense so predictable (not possible to know when they will happen, but play out quite the same every time) that the exact placement of orders can net you BTC10s easily. For example the Silk Road crash was an actual opportunity to buy at $90 in October. Yes, December-November-October. So many things happen in Bitcoin which cannot be predicted but can be captured with limit orders. Not being in Bitcoin is risky, but cutting your # of coins in half by insisting to buy now is not too smart either.

It is a shame that only stupid people tend to reply to my analysis, you know the ones who only want to know if the market will go up this afternoon (which in fact is the thing I could influence the most, thus nullifying the actual predicting) and cannot comprehend an advanced prediction such as "with 70% certainty we visit $450 before hitting $1,100 which makes it a wildly profitable +32% EV play after fees".

I am sorry if any person in any standing whatsoever has been offended because of my hard speech towards the trolls who don't know how to behave respectfully.

Besides there are some strawmen arguments that I have been wrong with market calls. There is one that I remember (quitting yelling "crash" when we had climbed to the top) but every other call since the start of the October bull market has been correct afaik. If you want to say that I was wrong, please post the wrong call in context and explain why it was wrong. Or refrain from lying.

quite barging already and stop acting as you are the smartest trader here, I do remember at one point you saying that you could buy the whole existing bitcoins I mean WTF...

you are what we call new money, people who are "so rich" should help some charities instead of acting smart and trashing people with "I have more you should listen to me" because this is just sick .

in the other hand these are the people who I love watching around the Bitcoin economy http://america.aljazeera.com/watch/shows/live-news/2013/12/bringing-homelessoffthestreetwithbitcoins.html

in case he decide to delete his post like he always do

When I first heard about bitcoin, I could have bought it, lol. No, seriously, I could have bought maybe 5% of the supply and drive the price up 10000%.

Too bad, somebody else did. I suffer the consequences.

my main argument was that during the run up of apple and google there were people who said exactly this

im saying bitcoin is similar, you still wanna throw that bet down  you never replied to that you nancy

No, I never had the money to buy the entire market cap of either Apple or Google. With Bitcoin, many of us did. Now THAT is a remorse.

So much hatred, the last couple of pages.
Let's just try to agree on ignoring someone when you don't like what they're saying - it makes for a cleaner topic.
when someone being racist or when someone being a jerk we can not just let him continue, we have to tell him to stop doing that, I agree that an aggressive an insulting way is not the way, but it has to be done....

Edit: watching something wrong and being quiet about it is worst than the wrong thing itself
2467  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 28, 2013, 01:47:44 PM
This thread quite closely echo's many op-ed pieces in the press from market experts, its fairly obvious who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing. The "I've got more so therefore I know more" posts and articles are funny considering some of the biggest holders are early adopters who have no interest in the price and value their holdings purely on the systems potential and those people can move the markets as much as any whale. That's why TA is only useful as a way of seeing what the purely speculative interest sees and has little overall effect on a market that doesn't have a board, a business plan, profit and loss reports or any of the usual sources used as a base for predictions. Speculators and manipulators only move the price in a relatively narrow band, its the masses that make the big moves and a good part of that is based on the systems value. The price crashes only serve to reduce the speculative interest, they cant break the system so the value is unaffected.

+1

for some reason I have been so angry reading some posts from Mirsad and rpietila the past few days, the first for his racism and trashing a whole race (bosnians), BTW I am not even from balkan but I felt so angry when I saw his post I couldn't take it.

rpietila didn't piss me off until he started acting as a jerk you know what I mean " I am so rich" "rich people like me" "listen to who have more than you" " I am a pro trader" " my clients" and he doesn't even post a disclaimer where he states that his predictions shouldn't be taken for a trading plan... many noobs got owned by his "prediction".

forgive my tiny tolerance over such people, I do apologize to all members for crossing my lines and going off-topic....

^

You really have problems if you think that anyone who addresses your predictions with a healthy dose of skepticism automatically "hates you for having more coins"

no, I now officially hate him
2470  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 28, 2013, 12:40:02 PM
Your hate-posts are noise. Wise up and quit posting them.

Quite many want to hear my predictions (or yours), but nobody wants to hear how much you hate me because I am richer for the reason that I have better track record than you in BTC.

I listen to Goat and Loaded because they have more BTC than me. Then some are smarter than me for example Zanglebert, wachtwoord and oakpacific. BitChick is just cute. But the others, no need to reply just to show hate; the time is better spent honing your own excels.

what makes you think you are richer ? do you know me ? or just because I don't brag about it and you have to tell that you are rich every second post of yours makes you think so ? GTFO

OMFG!!! I LOVE BITSTAMP!!!

Just logged in on one of my accounts and found out that I had an order to buy at somewhere around $490.
It passed through and I got 10 BTC!!! Cheesy

one of your accounts!!!??? how is that possible ? how could you verify "multiple accounts" ?

I have two, it is possible.

And both are verified - I set up two ages ago, then when verification came along I did one at a time and have had no problems.

I didn't know that was possible, I had only one account that I did register right away even before they required registrations as they had the 10K USD restriction

Instead of quoting and making insults, why don't you just count your BTC and learn from them who have more??  Huh

and here he goes again "learn from who have more"
2474  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 28, 2013, 12:26:06 PM
What Loaded meant is that he has loads of customers who bought at $10-$100 and are eager to take part in Bitcoin's profits, but do not care about suffering its downtrends. He need to unload perhaps 10,000s of coins and is doing a good job manipulating the market to look like a good opportunity for the small traders to buy in. To sell the coins at this thin market a crash is required - there is just not enough volume in the updays.

In general, there is very little buying interest above $400. The smart money knows when there is more air in the bubble and has no problem waiting for not only realistic valuation but preferably despair.

if you want a crash make it happen, dump all your coins (the ones you "still" have), you know that you are embarrassing your self, everyone is laughing at your worthless "facts" oh I mean predictions..... want to see 400 again ? make it happen ...

only noobs fall for his  "rich people like me" "market movers like me"  "Pro traders like me" "my clients".....

FinCEN released guidance for miners http://cointext.com/fincen-issues-bitcoin-friendly-ruling-for-miners/

Quote
To the extent that a user mines Bitcoin and uses the Bitcoin solely for the user’s own purposes and not for the benefit of another, the user is not an MSB under FinCEN’s regulations, because these activities involve neither “acceptance” nor “transmission” of the convertible virtual currency and are not the transmission of funds within the meaning of the Rule. This is the case whether the user mining and using the Bitcoin is an individual or a corporation, and whether the user is purchasing goods or services for the user’s own use, paying debts previously incurred in the ordinary course of business, or (in the case of a corporate user) making distributions to shareholders. Activities that, in and of themselves, do not constitute accepting and transmitting currency, funds or the value of funds, are activities that do not fit within the definition of “money transmission services” and therefore are not subject to FinCEN’s registration, reporting, and recordkeeping regulations for MSBs…

FinCEN therefore concludes that, under the facts you have provided, Atlantic would be a user of Bitcoin, and not an MSB, to the extent that it uses Bitcoin it has mined: (a) to pay for the purchase of goods or services, pay debts it has previously incurred (including debts to its owner(s)), or make distributions to owners; or (b) to purchase real currency or another convertible virtual currency, so long as the real currency or other convertible virtual currency is used solely in order to make payments (as set forth above) or for Atlantic’s own investment purposes. Milly Bitcoin’s Mining Rig

well this was better than the Slovenian guidance, in Slovenia Mining is treated as undeclared work in which miners will have to pay a fine for it and then Taxes..... well congrats for US miners.

This has nothing to do with taxes. This is to determine whether FinCEN has any regulation. FinCen doesn't have anything to do with taxation.

Anyway, funny how they refer to their monopoly money as 'real' money Cheesy

it is not only about taxes, a miner doesn't need a licence for a money transmitter in the US, but mining in Slovenia will be treated as undeclared work which is illegal and on top taxes you will pay a fine for it, so in order for a Slovenian miner to continue mining under legal conditions he has to open a business, which means there is no room for small miners.... Mining will be more centralized this way Sad

it is funny though, the definition of undeclared work is "offering a service or doing a work for individuals or companies for a reward/payment"  but in the mining case you are not doing it for anyone the  Bitcoin protocol compensate you with bitcoins so there is no individuals or companies behind it which the Slovenian regulators doesn't get I guess...

watching the price of bitcoin is like watching "how I met your mother", you get pissed because of not knowing the mother but at the same time you do not want to know who is the mother because simply the show will end Smiley

Read up on Schrödinger's Cat, it is a thought experiment in a similar vein, it will blow your mind Wink .

I am trying to understand the experiment but Quantum physic in general is one of the things that I want to spend more time to study ( try to understand ).... thank you for the link already bookmarked it to read the full article later.

what would I do if I wanted to buy huge amount of Bitcoin:

buy few hundred bitcoins, excute a market order sell to push the price a bit down, now sure the ask is still above you, so what you need to do is make your bot sell 0.01 Bitcoin constantly to give the impression that price is low and to trick other bots, low sell orders will start building, keep doing all above until the sell orders meet your expectations and than execute a buy market order.

what would I do if I wanted to sell huge amount of Bitcoin:

I would buy few hundred Bitcoins first to give an impression of price going up, than excute one sell market order and right after it a buy sell order of 0.01 to trick people/bots about the last price and repeat

and this is what was happening the last couple of days both when buying and selling....

go here and watch the last trades on the right, this is what is happening, now we are at the selling phase, before we were at the buying phase.

people want the price to go down to "buy cheap coins" yet they want bitcoin to go up.....   I want to shutdown the PC and try to not visit this forum for at least 3 months, but I cant.

so Bitcoin is not only an economical phenomena, it is a social phenomena where everyone built this communication bridge (this forum) where they can all discuss and work around together....

bitcoin will so drop to 600 quickly protect your wealth by buying a few billion doge coins

Adam. You've been around a long time. Hell, you started this thread. Why in the world did you sell some of your BTC?

what makes yo think that a hero member had/have that much of BTC, hell when I knew about Bitcoin I was thinking if it was worth it to invest 500€, it took me sometime to decide apparently the price was at 10$ when I first invested, and BTW I thought it was safer to invest on mining hardware than actually buying BTC, you know in case that BTC falls to zero at least I would have the hardware (worst decision ever), I mined couple of bitcoins when the difficulty was around 2-4 millions and I sold all of them to "ROI" again worst decision ever, but then I had more Faith in Bitcoin and decided to invest all I can (didn't have that much to invest though) and bought back in batches from 10-130 (best decision ever), believe me I am not cashing all my Bitcoins at any point, I will cash some when the price is $5000 or so to buy a flat ( a father of 2 kids and taking care of another 2 kids and live on rent)  but otherwise I will try to support BTC by getting more merchant accepting it.

today I was trying to convince a store about Bitcoin, the employee knew about bitcoin but didn't want to talk about it much(it wasnt up to him anyway), so I had to sell for cash to pay them...
