1781  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Safety revision after the Hacks going around these days on: March 04, 2014, 08:07:54 PM
to people who think that they do take security seriously, please it is time to do some revision, I am reading around and I see a shocking amount of hacks and fraud going on for the last couple of days.

so you may consider:

1- check if you have all security features that your exchange offers already activated.
2- make sure that you use one of the best antivirus programs on the computer you use to browse around and make sure it is up to date.
3- don't leave funds on exchanges, if you daily trade and you have leave any funds there, then make sure to use e-mail confirmations and that your e-mail also has 2FA.
4- make sure that you use only one phone/device which is not rooted, and do not install garbage bitcoin apps or any other app games/garbage.
5- use paper wallets for your long term investment and save them in a safe place.
6- keep the for-daily use coins on an offline computer, use Armory, sign offline transaction and broadcast them on an online pc.
7- use different passwords on all sites, make them complicated and long (capital letters small letters, numbers and special characters)
8- don't keep any track of your passwords, keys or anything else on your computer, do it the old fashion way, write on a paper and save it somewhere safe.
9- encrypt about anything, I would recommend you to encrypt your entire dist as well, if you use linux this option is offered when installing the system, if you use windows then try PGP whole disk encryption, I use it and I recommend it.
10- use avg anti virus on your phone/device, activate the relocation option, there is also an option to wipe-out the device by sending a SMS to your phone if lost or stolen.
11- never trust anyone with your BTC, if you cant control the address then you don't own the BTC, any non reputable, non regulated online service can go offline, and you will lose all your funds (the new term is Goxed)
12- dont click on links without being sure where they direct, you can simply put the mouse cursor on it without clicking and check the address bar if it is a legit link, deactivate automatic redirection in your browser so you cant be tricked.
13- don't open e-mails from unknown sources, especially don't open spam e-mail, if you have to do so, then make sure to not open any executable attachment or any .pif extension, judge any site asking you to install "java plugin" or a "flash player" if YouTube works for you than you don't need any flash player or additional extensions, you are being a victim of a phishing attempt.
14- don't install any opensource software if you don't know what the code does, if can review the code your self then don't install without verifying the signature, especially don't install wallets of the daily created scam coins, some might be created just to steal your coins.

these are just some of the safety practices I can think about now, any user is welcome to add anything I might have forgotten to this list.

Bitcoin's Zodiac Forecast, for Monday, 3rd March 2014

Instead of looking into the future, this week, let's look into the past. Let's go back to a time when you had a more innocent outlook; when your hopes were higher, your dreams were brighter and your views were somewhat less jaded. Once you thought almost anything was possible. What, other than a disappointing experience, has caused you to change your mind? OK, that's enough history. As you now move forward, you are returning to a sense of optimism. Some truly remarkable achievements lie ahead.

otoh, i went back to your prediction for  the week of october 2013 till the end of november 2013, when the bitcoin reached the top. WOW! Im truly amazed of your correct prediction.  That is why im asking you now.. Jupiter is going on thursday direct, so for who is more faborable for litecoin or bitcoin. Probobly both of them are going to rise as usually, but who is going to get more bust ltc or btc. what do you think?

thx Smiley

I am still wishing for a day where I can buy my BTC and LTC at one professional exchange like Bitstamp...

You could use bitfinex?

I had account there a long ago, I just visited the site again and I am totally lost, where do I see the trading volume ? what about AML KYC, are they compliant?

EDIT: Ok found it...

WTF !!! I was so fucking angry, I didn't know what was happening looked at news and just to see BTCchina adding it... ok I had 7 confirmations and still didn't get my account credited, I went to smoke another cigarette came back the price was at 0.0265 then I got credit and bought at 0.026

I was thinking about buying yesterday, but I didn't do it.... now I am going to hold for that 0.05 Wink

Is it time for cheap coins yet??

you went off-topic, the topic now is TITS and if it is ok to look at them at work, otherwise at the moment Tits seems to be more important than the price, people are taking a break, which I think is ok Wink
1795  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 03, 2014, 12:26:44 PM
Seriously guys, stop posting these images, I wont be able to open this thread at the office....

Yeah, even people quoting those images get an ignore from me. Some people are not sat in their bedrooms.

WTF? So you can spend your work-time on non-work related forums but looking at a couple of tits is some sort of NO-NO that will get you automatically fired as soon as those tits are displayed on your screen?

You are really saying that the fact that a tits picture is displayed is such a deal?

Really guys, what's wrong with you in the US? In all offices I've been working everybody had a little time to a) read some news, b) watch some tits. It's a stress killer Smiley

depending on your work environment, I don't know why is it hard for you to understand that... do you have any women working with you ?
1796  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 03, 2014, 12:19:36 PM
We still going up or was that just a tease?

Semi NSFW
https://i.imgur.com/Eb0I1OL.gif

As this is the official off-topic thread I will take the occasion to say something I always wanted to: I'm really amazed by the NSFW thing US folks use when linking to sex related images.... is so ridiculous I cannot even understand it.

How does that work exactly? Naked ladies/porn is specifically considered "not suitable for work" but general news or other non-work related stuff is suitable? What about sports news? Bitcoin stuff? I mean, I'd say that everything non-work related might be considered "not suitable" in many circumstances (you are supposed to be working, not reading about sports or bitcoin, right?), but the fact of specifically labeling "naked ladies/sex" as "not suitable for work" seems to me the reflection of a ridiculously biggot society. Cheesy

I will ignore the porn/and naked ladies part... but no it depends about the nature of your job, if you are a reporter or a journalist you can watch news and anything, if you are and IT guy you can watch support forums and or technology news threads because this is the only way you stay updated, if you are a teacher than yea you should be doing your job teaching instead of hanging around the internet..... I think you get my point here.

it depends on how your productivity is effected, in my case I am more productive and can deliver better results if before resolving an issue I look online or alternative and better ideas to do so... or simply by taking the chance to learn new stuff on the time when I have nothing to do...

Aren't you supposed to be working?  Tongue

I am an IT engineer, so you know how that stuff goes Wink if everything is working I sit back and drink coffee Wink well I do some stuff here and there but not that much of work if everything is working like it should ...

anyway I am quitting my job soon, I've already sent my letter and will be working here till 1st of May at maximum, maybe I will leave even before...
