LTC

yes! but at this point it is less useful than BTC, to be honest I am examining the possibility of a boom here, there is a big payment processor like Bitpay called gocoin.com, which deals with Bitcoin and Litecoin exclusively and  make it easy for merchants to accept both Litecoin and Bitcoin without risking the volatility, also Bitpay last year twitted about Litecoin a couple of times...

I am an IT guy, so I am not asking about the technical aspect of things here, I already know that, I am curious about the market more or less, so beside speculation, what do you think, and I also would like from other members to share their thoughts about this if it is Ok (not that I want to spam this thread and take it out of the context)
1762  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: March 08, 2014, 01:38:41 PM
Risto, while I hate most of the alts and question their existence, I am a fan and LTC supporter for a while now, so I wanted to ask you if it is possible to take a look at the crypto market out of the box and tell me what you think.

Why I am asking this? I have been watching the crypto market in general, comparing the money flow in/out for all alts, I found that the volume of money invested in Litecoin is way more then you can even imagine, I also found out that the last 3-4 months Litecoin beats bitcoin by volume.

look at this bubbles http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/v2/coins/graphicalComparison

they count the 24H volume of ALTcoin/USD and ALTcoin/BTC and they convert everything back to BTC and compare it to the BTC volume, so it is not 1 LTC compared to 1 BTC but it is the value of 1 BTC invested in that Altcoin instead.

data is recorded from almost all exchanges (I found out about many of exchanges there, I didn't know they existed at all)

So what is your take on this ?
1763  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 08, 2014, 01:28:35 PM
in other notes, I am watching the Litecoin volume over the last few months, and I am amazed how Litecoin is developing http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/v2/coins/graphicalComparison

they count the volume of LTC/USD and LTC/BTC and they convert everything back to BTC and compare it to the BTC volume, so it is not 1 LTC compared to 1 BTC but it is 1BTC invested in litecoin instead.

By the way, if you find it hard to believe that a man in the situation of Dorian Nakamoto could invent bitcoin and not cash out a single coin: check Grigori Perelman, who settled the Poincaré Conjecture and then turned down the Fields Medal and a 1,000,000 US$ prize:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grigori_Perelman
http://brettforrest.com/articles/shattered-genius/

I too think it is him.

I do not think it is him at all. The journalist "work" is extremely bad and based on pure speculation, it really looks like this is a prank pulled on her by Dorian's brother.

The internet is full of posts by Dorian (Amazon; guns forums; train models forums; Toyota forum; etc.) and his writing style is EXTREMELY different (and bad) compared to SN's. The journalist was SO BAD and so eager to publish this story that she didn't even take the time to make a real comparison between the writing of both characters - she just wrote on his piece that Dorian's wife said that her husband mixes both American and UK english, which is beyond ridiculous as a "proof", especially if there is SO much material on the internet to make a REAL comparison. It's obvious that Dorian writes a very bad english, and this is very easily verifiable: his posts all over the internet.

All in all there's some circumstancial evidence, but not a single hint of firm evidence. In fact, the strongest evidence is that the guy's birth name is Satoshi Nakamoto -  but Dorian is a physicist and an engineer, not a cryptographer; add to that his bad english (which, again, is easily proved by using a little google-skills) and the unbelievable characteristics of this story (a guy who never spoke to his family about his project and went to greath lengths to be anonymous "tacitly admits" his involvment to a journalist and uses his real name to publish the foundational paper).

I bet Dorian is not SN. It just doesn't add up. If his birth name was not "Satoshi Nakamoto", everybody would have been laughing at this whole story. It's much more likely SN is Nick Szabo - the evidence is still circumstancial but orders of magnitude stronger in his case. For Christ sake, Nick Szabo was the "inventor" of the "smart contract" concept, his work revolves around the concept of eliminating trust on third parties using decentralized ledgers and he created "bit gold" (which is pure and simply the precursor of Bitcoin), working on it for decades until he stopped publishing papers on electronic cash around 2005 (his last post on bit gold was written on his blog on 2008, just little before the Bitcoin paper was published - what a coincidence). Plus, Szabo's and Satoshi's writing styles are very similar, they use the very same terms and concepts and their work revolves around the very same point. It really looks like Szabo found the "solution to the problem" and created bitcoin, and that's why he never published again about electronic cash/trustless sytems - which were the center of his work for more than a decade. He never wrote about bitcoin and ignores all the comments about bitcoin on his blog, which seems incredibly shady given the fact that he is clearly the inspirator of such a system…  All that might be circumstancial, but the links (in form of PAPERS and WORKS, not speculation by family members and retarded journalists) are SO strong they cannot be ignored.

IMO all this Dorian story is a ludicrous joke that leverages on just three things: A) Dorian's name; B) the fact Dorian worked on classified projects; C) the fact Dorian is a libertarian and quite "paranoid" when it comes to Government - which is simply what you would expect from anyone who has worked for the Government - he just knows first hand that Govs spy and apply violence on people.

The Newsweek journalists should be ashamed.

this really make sense, also I really was curious about the identity of Satoshi, but I didn't pay this mystery allot of attention until now, I believed 90% of that article, after 24 hours and all the evidence it dropped to 40% but your post really putted me off Dorian.

but again, it is the first time when I really badly want to know about the identity of Satoshi, I know I wont achieve anything with that, but I will have peace with my mind, it wouldn't be strange if the whole article thing is set up or just an attempt to make the real Satoshi reveal him self in a try to save Dorian's life...
1766  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitstamp btc withdrawal problem on: March 07, 2014, 12:42:31 PM
I do not have any open orders and support takes 4 days to answer question! Is there any phone number to talk with somekind of support of them?

you cant call, you have to submit a ticket through their system, my advice is to not spam them with tickets, open only one ticket and wait, they might have allot of work, now that gox is gone allot of customers are moving there....

1767  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitstamp btc withdrawal problem on: March 07, 2014, 12:33:14 PM
I am having a issue with Bitstamp for over 1 week. I have made a withdrawal(2nd of march of 5985$) to international bank account option, all ok confirmed by e-mail, got that my operation is in pending, OK! I havent checked any status about the transfer cos I was sure that friday(7th) they will hit my account, normaly they would have hited on thursday but I always like to keep one day more to be sure.

Ok, my bank said that no transfers came thru, I went on the website and I see that my balance is 5985$, immediatly I tought that my order got canceled or something. I go at the withdrawal history and I see my trasanction on the 2nd is still in process. Ok, so I try to make another withdrawal because of my balance showing up as 5985$, but when I hit the withdrawal to my account, I get the message : My balance is 0.24$. What the hell is going on? Can somebody explain please!

check if you have any open orders... cancel them and try again

I can hardly follow events the last couple of days, I am not sure anymore about what to read, hundreds of threads and allot of speculation, but I have to admit that my curiosity is at its maximum since I learned about Bitcoin, I cant move on now that they brought Satoshi nakomoto identity subject.... I feel the need to know who he is, even if doesnt change anything.... I cant let it go  Cheesy
1769  Economy / Speculation / Re: wow, bitcoin's astro birth chart is full on! on: March 06, 2014, 08:24:43 PM
Very interesting last couple of posts, looks like the Bitcoin astro chart should be tweaked to reflect San Bernardino, Los Angeles as the place of birth - maybe he'll set up some Satoshi Foundation or prizes, like the Nobel prizes now that he's been so publicly doxxed.

20 may seems so interesting.... even more interesting for litecoin Wink so much will be happening that day, I guess if all this is somehow related to that day! who knows we will see about that...

and btw Litecoin from 8 to 10 March something is also there Smiley

And in the end, they are insolvent ...

Dear Bitstamp clients,

On November 22nd and 23rd, 2013 an on site due diligence was carried out in respect of Bitstamp Ltd. on behalf of a 3rd party.

Bitstamp’s balance of BTC was validated by temporarily creating the largest single Bitcoin wallet and in the process the largest Bitcoin transaction in history.

The report identified that Bitstamp held 100% of validated BTC balance and USD funds. No material issues were raised as a consequence of the 3rd party’s investigations.

Original statement

Best regards,
Bitstamp team

Look at the precision which satoshi used when writing his posts.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3;sa=showPosts

Punctuation and grammar is sophisticated and exact.

Then look at the letter on this page
http://www.businessinsider.com/dorian-satoshi-letter-and-train-2014-3#ixzz2vCSq2huK

No way, these are by the same person.

how do you know that was Satoshi who wrote that, I can make a better picture than the one above and sign it with his name, also everything on that story fits perfectly to that man, I am almost convinced that is him...

and by the way, he used his real name, nice move last thing expected....
1773  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 06, 2014, 03:51:28 PM
Real respect to that man, I have more faith in Bitcoin than I had ever knowing that the man you see on that picture is Satoshi and reading about his life..... I am so amazed, I just hope that people will respect his privacy and leave him alone...
1774  Economy / Speculation / Re: Doubts about bitcoin these days... on: March 06, 2014, 11:49:06 AM
you are going through a faith test faze, it is totally normal, you may top believing in bitcoin and move on, I saw many people coming in and going out the past year and half, everyone has a price....

but to say you no banks fails and big companies fails and no money is stolen from people in the old fashion system is totaly ignorant, you have no idea how things works, many big companies and banks get bailed out before failing just because the damage they will cause is huge, but the thing that people they dont know is the long term damage the cause by bailing them out is even bigger to the economy and it effects all people indirectly, it effects you in a way but you just dont feel it because it takes years, but when you the shit hits the fan you cant do nothing about it.

it is like cancer, it will cause slow death and slow you abilities you will suffer a long time before death but you live with it, compared to a car accident where you can lose you life instantly.

I've tested my faith many times, I've tested my faith at $20 when the price doubled and I said no chance it will go higher, did it again at 50, did it again at 100, did it again at 200...... but I overcome all my concers

You can add #0 to your list.

Bitcoin Axiom #0 - If you do not have the private keys for your bitcoins, then you have no bitcoins.

If you deposit your bitcoins with an exchange then although their site may display an amount of bitcoins what you have is an IOU for a certain amount of bitcoins.   An IOU is a form of debt, it only has value as long as it is honored.  A significant portion of debt is never repaid.  Bitcoin has no counterparty risk, a bitcoin IOU does have counterparty risk.

it is on the list #11

while some of you think that Bitstamp employees are not "qualified" I can add this, Nejc Kodric the CEO and founder is not an IT guy,  he has Economics Management college degree, while the Top IT programmers behind the system are leaded by Damian Merlak also a qualified person.

I can also share few information you may not know allot about Bitstamp, last year (mid year) when I visited their offices they had around 7 employees (or so), not long ago when I talked with Nejc he told me they had more than 15 and quickly expanding, and now I know that they are recruiting even more and I also know that they are looking only for high potential and talented employees.

there is also Hazek the moderator on this forum for economics and general discussion, he is the leader of the support team.

Bitcoin did raise so fast, in fact explode is the right word, big companies like Bitstamp are in a race with this growth, if you think that banks or economical companies can do better than most businesses around, I can tell you that you are wrong, this guys that run bitstamp have many developers that were around Bitcoin since 2010, so if you think that a monkey who works at a bank would understand better than someone writing code around bitcoin since 2010 you are so wrong.

I like that Nejc is not an IT guy and he is involved in management and Economics, I also like his approaching, by hiring professionals the second his exchange started taking off.

this wont be easy time for bitstamp, now they have a huge growth opportunity after gox death, and they have to explode at the same rate Bitcoin is doing, this is why I was applying for job, and BTW this is why I sent my resignation letter even if they didnt have a meeting with me or accept my application, and even if they dont, I am sure that I can add something to this community.

1778  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 05, 2014, 04:04:38 PM
Perhaps I am being a little harsh with the exchanges; clearly they are the first attempts by hobbyists and we needed them in the very beginning. But now, we have moved on to a stage where we cannot afford to have experimental exchanges – perhaps even having such exchanges out there with the highest volume is detrimental nowadays. What is sorely needed is professionals who already have experience building financial infrastructure. Wall Street, not basement geek.

Bitstamp leaked their customer email addresses by the way, that's why all the new phishing attempts. Reminiscent of Emptygox 2011. Fuck all the operating major Bitcoin exchanges.

This is just getting stupid. After Im confident of the reversal and fairly sure its choo choo time Im getting all of my funds off exchanges and not trading until im confident in a competent exchange.
I have Bitstamp verified account and I never received the gox scam mail neither the btcguild scam mail or any other bitcoin related scam or spam. I don't think those are connected.
Same here regarding the Bitstamp account, plus my email was not leaked before all this and I only got those mails fairly recently, so I am near certain of eleuthria's conclusion. Have you checked your spam folder? Gmail for example has excellent spam filtering.
I checked the spam folder just before writing the message. There are no such emails from mtgox or btcguild in any of my email folders including the spam folder.

Same here. Doesn't rule out email leak, but I'm not convinced.

"In another email they admitted to it"...  My ass

ok I will share this with you, I do trust the guys who run Bitstamp, I can vouch for their trustworthy, I met some of them, but some of you may remember when I was investigating the issue, I was getting tons of phishing attempts and I am still getting them almost everyday, first I thought it was my fault maybe installing some infected android app, but then I asked effected users who got the same emails and they confirmed they do not use the same e-mail address for their android devices for bitstamp, then I thought maybe it was the mtgox security breach, and other users confirmed that they didn't use the same address as well, so this eliminated gox as well.

the other note is that bitstamp blocked BTC withdrawal from only effected accounts, how they knew about who was effected ? this raised my concerns, I didn't want to talk about this for 3 reasons, the first one is people would shoot about me trying to spread FUD, the second is I have no evidence while everything point out to this scenario I didn't have any prove to talk about it, the third is that I know the CEO personally, he is from my town, I know his mother she works with me, and know what kind of people they are, and I also know some of bitstamp's employees, they are all reputable and I have no second thoughts about that.

Disclaimer, I even have a job application sent to work at bitstamp, nevertheless being in IT administration and architecture for so long I can tell about some of the bad practices Bitstamp is using, well at least what I can think it is and concerns me, their design for the help desk system (support) is not the best secure practice, you can submit support tickets with attachments on the same platform (server) where you have your trading engine database and also the bitcoin daemon.

I am not worried about the phishing attempts but what worries me is the core site, big companies of this size use a different domain and/or different servers for help desk, where users can submit their tickets with attachments to a whole different server, so even if that server is compromised with an injection/upload or simply being infected by viruses it wont effect the customers funds and the database also it wont effect the trading.

and I really hope that I am being wrong...
1779  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: March 05, 2014, 12:02:13 PM
Only... they are anonymous, so sueing them might be much more complicated.
Which also means they are more likely to just grab any funds they still have and run.

Excuse me, who is anonymous? Are you talking about Bitstamp? Their management has always been very public:

https://twitter.com/nejc_kodric
http://www.crunchbase.com/person/nejc-kodric
http://si.linkedin.com/pub/nejc-kodri%C4%8D/47/227/299
http://si.linkedin.com/pub/damijan-merlak/16/667/4a9?trk=pub-pbmap

Plus you can find other Bitstamp employees on Linkedin just by searching "Bitstamp" with no problem. I really don't know where does this myth about Bitstamp being "anonymous" comes from, Coindesk always mentions Nejc when writes about Stamp, Nejc has a btctalk account under his real name which he used to post about his company when he founded it, when you open a ticket on Stamp the support agent always signs the reply with his first+last name...

And for Christ sake you just need to google "Bitstamp CEO" to find dozens (if not hundreds) of links about Nejc Kodric.
Sorry, my bad.
They are "privacy protected" in the whois, so I just believed when someone else also told me they were anonymous.
No clue why they have a hidden whois if their name are indeed known, it's just free bad publicity for them which they shouldn't deserve.

(that being said, their "hand out your documents or we'll keep your funds" without any email warning has been quite an assy move...)

I live near Bitstamp (10 min away walking), I visited their office a couple of times, I don't know that much about their business model/information as these things are confidential and there is no company that will reveal such internal information, but the guys seemed friendly and yes I've got the feeling that these people know what they are doing...

BTW the first time I visited last year, they had around 7 (or so) employees, the second time I visited they had more than 15 employees (didn't count but the office was big and full) and I hear that they are picking up potential and talented people to work for them...
