I think that 400 was your bottom, and in the next couple of days we will start a rally up

Quote
STATEMENT BY BITSTAMP REGARDING MT GOX INSOLVENCY
BITCOIN IS STILL WORKING AND STILL HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE

The worldwide peer-to-peer payment system and crypto-currency known as Bitcoin is not dependant on any one actor. The Bitcoin protocol continues to work exactly as designed. Bitcoin remains strong despite the failure of any one exchange and will continue to grow and thrive as long people desire that it do so.

LOSSES LIMITED TO BALANCES AT MTGOX

It is important to underscore that the known losses of fiat currency and Bitcoin are limited to those balances that were in MtGox’s care. The MtGox exchange can best explain how this happened.

BITSTAMP CUSTOMERS ARE SAFE AND OUR BUSINESS IS SOLVENT

We at Bitstamp have conducted a thorough audit of our bitcoin accounts, as well as the fiat currency reserves we maintain in the bank. Bitstamp maintains all of its customers’ bitcoin and cash deposits and nothing is amiss.

BITSTAMP IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE TRANSACTION MALLEABILITY VULNERABILITY

Bitstamp uses a different protocol to handle problems in closing out its transactions and is not vulnerable to the “transactional malleability” issue that was apparently exploited at Mt. Gox. Additionally, we manually double-check every transactional problem encountered by our customers.

BITSTAMP’S FUTURE

We are taking steps to provide Bitstamp’s customers with the utmost confidence in our operations:

1. Bitstamp is financially stronger than ever. We have the most customers, and the most solid capital base, than we have ever had.
2. Bitstamp has retained the best available security and compliance advisors to assist us in protecting our clients.
3. Bitstamp prides itself on industry-leading compliance with its AML and KYC procedures.
4. Bitstamp is now performing quarterly financial audits and will post our financial reports on our web site.

OK, here is my zero-evidence speculation: @MtGox got bought by someone willing to clean up the mess.

I thought I should set some things straight. Please don't take this as official from Mt.Gox in anyway, but I have a duty to come clean and calm some of the rampant FUD and rumours.
That "Crisis Management" document did not come from Mt.Gox internally, and there are a lot of attempts to discredit Gox.
I don't want to irritate Mark or our benefactors, so I can't say much, but I can say that have a little faith. Mt.Gox is not "down". The landing page is blank, correct.
Also, Gox.com should be active, and I know Mark and the rest of the management is extremely grateful for many benefactors who are currently in the process of arranging to make Gox as robust and top-notch as it can possibly be.
Do not worry, and please keep the tin-foil hats away.. I know it's hard and I need to repeat this is my personal statement, not an official release, but I will say this - good news is coming. Have faith.

(the inevitable - "This account is new!" will start, and that's fine. so what? I make it a habit of avoiding reddit, but in this situation I think an exception was due)

Edit: although I think that account is fake, so this shouldn't be taken serious
1964  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: February 25, 2014, 08:47:42 AM
Hi rpietila. What are your thoughts on the sudden and short nature of this drop and subsequent rise? I expected a much longer and drawn out drop, or drift, down the bottom. It doesn't seem like there has really been enough time and volume to actually confirm the bottom (even if it is bottom). It dropped from 640 to 400 over the span of one day. Compare this with 2013 when it dropped from 100 to 66 over the span of a week or two and spent 3 days testing the bottom of 66. Perhaps it needs to spend more time trading sideways before it can recover. It might test that bottom again, or, that might not even be the bottom and this might merely be the first leg of a downtrend. Would that be ok with you? What are you thoughts?

I think this was the bottom, and we are not going any lower (at least not really). A longish bottoming process in 400-500 range will have to confirm it in the following days though.

Everything fits in the final capitulation scenario. Now just make sure you load up 100% before we start going up. Next target $7000 by Midsummer (if it happens, I lose a certain bet..Wink )

dont you think we need a clear picture from the Gox situation (beside the TA) to move on ?  what are your thoughts about gox anyway, do you think they just run up with the money ? I have a feeling that this will turn better than we all think....

I wish if I had more FIAT in stamp now.... I would be really happy, I waited for this day for 3 weeks now and I used all the $45K I had there

Mine was invested during the last hours at midprice $448. So the 2-month long quest is over. Gained about BTC400, though my loss of BTC250 in Mt.Gox should be debited from this amount.

Bitcoin, you may now rise! Smiley

I will go to my castle and occasionally post if there is something important.

my total average is $455 now, I was thinking about investing more money, but I was having second thoughts as I sent yesterday a letter to quit my job and start working on various bitcoin projects professionally, so I had to make sure to keep some FIAT reserve in my Bank account for "you never know" case....

But I am pleased in general, I am sorry for the past misunderstanding and congrats for your castle, enjoy.... hope to be hearing from you more often...

BTW Mtgox website is down, nothing loads... only a blank page...
You dont say.....  Roll Eyes

dude, he just woke up

And? It takes all of 10 seconds to skim a few titles in the speculation section.

And if he just woke up, is he dumb enough to think hes actually the first person to notice Gox is down? And that the panic on bitstamp is just a coincidence? No, hes not.

So its annoying that people post that crap. Think.

why is your butt hurting, I don't visit the junk threads on the speculation forum, this and Risto threads are the only threads I visit on this sub-forum since few months, and this is by clicking "show new replies to your posts".....

even if I am an ignorant asshole, isn't wise to help me out ? or you forgot that you were once a noob and we given you guidance by writing wikis and helping unswerving the dumb questions...

I dont mind answering questions when they arent because someone is so ridiculously lazy they cant even google search before asking a forum what happened.

I dont usually put people on ignore but when I do it I make sure they deserve to be ignored

I'm not sure we'll go much down from here.

+1, I'm not selling for 450, fuck this shit. Gox's dead was priced in good part anyway.
I just bought a bunch more at 450 that wasn't in my buy orders. it felt like a local bottom.

The question is to sell or not to sell if it rises to some 550-600 or so.

And then there's Europe waking up now..

My orders all fulfilled, I knew that I had to raise the price just bit or I would miss the buying, I did have an advanced order where it would sell at 550 automatically, but I woke up and cancel it right away, Mtgox halting trading is something I take as positive Wink

Sorry, I forgot to say good morning Bitcointalk Wink
Confirmed!

got out of bed to place more orders

I still have 55 BTC orders down to 420$. Bought lot today, some 65k$. Hopefully, it won't go below 400$, I'd be fine if that level is not breached, or at least not for long.

But it looks we're back to 450-460 on Stamp, mini rally didn't last long.

it will break the 400, but I am playing it safe here, I didnt want to try my luck...

Well, I just executed arbitrage between Stamp and BTC-e. I have 1100$ more now, though most of my fiat is on BTC-e now, not on Stamp. Hopefully, Putin won't killed BTC-e owners now :Grin

nice, I used to to trade LTC there, but it has been 4 months since my last trade there and I don't have balls to go there again, even if the gap between stamp and BTC-e is $40, the risk is not worth it.... just be careful, at least you know who owns stamp and where to get them if anything goes wrong....
1979  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 24, 2014, 06:25:42 PM
Weird that stamp is behind btc-e

Wierd that people trade BTC/USD at btc-e!!! how easy you get your money in and out? and how do anyone trust them anyway ?

700 BTC dump, I have a feeling that this will keep going....

the MACD 12 period AMA and 26 period AMA is really becoming huge, they are both negative now, so I really dont see any reversal here, anyone ?
