let's say you have a 'membership' site that you want to charge 3 BTC per month for access. I understand the monthly access charge, but how would you adjust the monthly rate if it's based on BTC. Each month, the numbered BTC would have to change due to the fluctuations at the Bitcoin exchanges. For example, $30 per month would be 3 BTC, but next month that may equate to 2.7 BTC or 3.9 BTC, and each month after that there will have to be an adjustment of sorts (sometimes even extending the decimal point because of the perceived difference between $29.97 and $30.09). The whole sound idea would be based on Bitcoin, BTC, etc., until pricing comes up and your forced to express it in fiat. Please correct me if I'm wrong and you see a wraparound solution. well, you could leave it up to the merchant.... the merchant should have a million options in their wallet account as to how the subscription is set up. $1.95 for a 3 day trial, and then $30 / month recurring... and then let the wallet service charge the equivalent in bitcoins based on some fair rate that's constantly updated. i'm sure wallets right now can easily charge in USD, so it could be also done for recurring payments. |

As much as I think ixcoin is silly, and a ploy for setting up one or two people as artificial early adopters (through the pre-generation of nearly half a million ixcoins), moving the thread to off-topic is a form of censorship. It is quite on the topic of bitcoin.
That is arguable. This is Bitcoin forum and there is a Bitcoin discussion section. The topic is about Ixcoin, which has its own forums, so it doesn't seem totally unappropriated to consider it offtopic here... here's a test: is namecoin offtopic? |

again, not too sure. When I did it, it was something like this.
Mined: 0.5btc
Bought - $7.5 USD
Realised I couldn't withdraw USD.
Rebought BTC
Sold BTC in AUD
Withdrew AUD.
You can ask the tech support at Tradehill. I know Mt.Gox allows for withdrawl of USD into any account for a flat fee of $10 i think it was?
hmmm two problems with this... 1) converting back through btc is going to net me less coins than i had originally, and 2) the aud market has hardly any volume. i'm thinking about the possibility of just withdrawing the USD to paxum, and then have paxum send it to my bank account... reading their site now. |

I don't think you can withdraw USD into AUD from tradehill. Not too sure on it, but I tried and I think it wouldn't let me choose the USD amount. I ended up trying AUD, withdrew $5.00. It took a long time, a little over a week. Back then it was 0.3% i think, so I ended up getting $4.98
so then, is there a way to convert your tradehill USD balance to tradehill AUD? if not i just wasted a whole lot of time (and money) selling some btc for usd (on the market with the most volume). |

i too have a question... how do you withdraw 'aud' if you only have a usd balance in tradehill?
does the 'amount to withdraw' box refer to an AUD amount or USD amount?

I don't think this is funny. One of the issues: If a currency that has a maximum of only 21M units available sees large-scale adoption, precision may become an issue. People will be dealing with tiny fractions for daily purchases and you certainly don't want any floating point errors to occur. Looking at modern FPU implementations, likely this will be no problem but for a currency that will be used globally it may have been better to set this number a few magnitudes higher. noone's stopping you from trading in mBTC, µBTC or nBTC... no excuse for floating point errors any more than with dollars and cents. |

people are probably just trading in it for a bit of fun and excitement... i bought a few of them for 0.008 each and then 1 minute later someone bought some for 0.004 each... half what i paid... i know it's possible i'll lose all my money, but then again, i'm approaching it a bit like one of these gambling games we see so much on this forum No harm in having a little fun. Just remember, 100% of your 'investment' is at risk. definitely... i'm not the guy who's playing with 250 BTC by the way |
