it would be more interesting if they said, Whoever will guess it right will get xBTC as a price, I am sure this will bring more attention than "YAY we are doing something huge, can you guess it"

This was two weeks ago here in Argentina. This guy is a beast. He was the best speaker of the conference.

Great video, thanks for sharing, watching here...

Should I continue to listen past 5m19s? He already said he doesn't regard Bitcoin a currency and that he thinks the USD is superior. I already want to smack him twice. Does his talk improve?

Yes im at 16 min. and it gets better

I like his opinion on fungibility.

Edit:

Haha @ "Fuck off, Bitcoin works fine!" he just scored points. And now disrupting nation states. He should just skip the first 15 minutes of his talk.

 Smiley

Oh it's done @ 23:30. I loved the final few minutes. I don't understand what all the rest was about, it sounds like they replaced the speaker in the end. The first 15 minutes is just politically correct, untrue bull shit.

Bitcoin is WAY better than any fiat currency. Hell, Litecoin is better than any fiat currency, hell any PM is better than any fiat currency. Fiat currencies SUCK. Saying USD is better than Bitcoin makes me nauseous
and I wouldn't be able to say it out loud without making a face.

I was thinking the same, but I remembered my co-workers who are BTW all IT engineers and how hard was it to explain the concept of Bitcoin to them and even when I did they still think that Bitcoin is a scam or monopoly money, his method can be a great approach to people like my co-workers....but it is too late I am out of energy and I give up, it is their lost anyways

Also his answer to the second to last question proves he doesn't believe in the long term value of Bitcoin. He thinks ~6 crypto's will end up sharing the market and Bitcoin not being one of them. Wow, I see this as a possibility but certainly not the most likely.

the definition of short term varies from a person to another, when we talk about the short term future of bitcoin we usually mean 5-10 years (on the speculation board means 1-2 weeks Cheesy ) but I "think" in order for bitcoin to continue to mainstream and "survive" there are a lot of things has to be addressed short term ( we are still on the 5-10 years) like the block size limit, transaction fees, the selfish miner issue,regulation.....

the point is that if these issues wont be addressed there will be another alt (not a single from the existing ones) created that solves all existing issues and this is my biggest fear

Even seemingly intelligent people outside of the Bitoin forums seem to believe Dogecoin "has made it". People continue to disappoint me with their retardedness Sad

Let's wait until they find out about JunkCoin. Do any of you think people will fall for it I launch a "PremineAndPumpAndDumpCoin" (P&P&DC)? I'll be rich!

well Keiser!!  what a retard, I used to watch his shows I always had fun but now !!! just 2 min ago he twitted  and I replied https://twitter.com/mmitech/status/414023365133746177

But he does tend to get it right.

Wrong. You are very new here, but he tends to get it wrong most of the times, I'd say as much as 90% of the times.

Don't have the time to dig all the old posts (plus he tends to delete them when he gets it wrong), but I will make you a very short summary of some of Risto Pietila's calls:

Quote
"anyone who does not believe that we will hit $300k per BTC by this year is in denial of the facts"
- spring 2013 (this was not trolling, this was a very real and serious prediction he made earlier this year)

Quote
"we will never see $100 again"
- summer 2013 - we went below $100 (till $67) a few days after

Quote
"i turned bear, I'm selling and buying back cheaper in a few days"
- November 2013 - he sold at $700 hoping to buy back cheaper and had to buy back at a loss shortly after

Quote
"i turned bull, I was wrong earlier and we are going to the moon"
- December 2013 - we were trading at $1200, the peak was reached shortly after and we crashed

I could go on FOREVER.

As some have said, Risto makes some very interesting general analysis threads, but:

  • his short term calls are consistently wrong
  • he doesn't own 10k coins, that's BS. He doesn't own more than 2k coins based on his post history (probably less)
  • his history of successful trading are utter BS. He doesn't do "arbitrage", and he makes up his stories of success to build up his character
  • he has delusions of grandeur and maniac episodes in which he totally loses his mind, probably believing his own BS
  • he doesn't stand serious critics, that's why he starts self-moderated topics in which he ruthlessly deletes well-reasoned critics while allowing random and off-topic praises.
  • finally, his business model is to attract noob investors to either a) sell them BTC with a markup or b) manage their assets for a fee. This is his priority, and the character he built in here is made with that priority in mind.

Let me get straight that I haven't got anything personal against Risto, is just that I feel bad when I see noobs thinking he is some kind of über-successful master BTC trade, while in reality he is mostly smoke and mirrors. As we are supposed to be a community, sometimes I feel the urge to warn newcomers and tell them to analyze more thoroughly the character before thinking to risk their money to/with him.

+1

I am sensitive when he gives the noobs the "Pro trader" act I will copy what you just wrote just to threw it on his face, because he is one of the few here that claim that his posts are not speculations but "facts" and the clients that he claims to have are BS....

BTW, I just visited Blockchain.info, and the bottom half of the "stats" page with the worthless "miners' operating revenue/margin/BS" was missing .... although one can always hope for a Merry Christmas present from blockchain.info.

Its finally gone. Merry Christmas! But, no, that wasn't the announcement Smiley

I cant think of a good guess..... just please not Alts, I was fine with Litecoin but with the shitload of scam coins I am starting to reconsider the point of alts....

BTW this is interesting http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/china-business/10530153/China-credit-crisis-fears-as-central-bank-injects-funds.html

Quote
China credit crisis fears as central bank injects funds
Chinese stocks fall on liquidity crisis fears despite central bank pumping in cash

China’s central bank has rushed to pump money into the stalling banking system but markets across Asia still fell sharply amid fears that the world’s second-largest economy faces a credit crisis.
Cash rates on China’s money markets jumped after the move by the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) to ease a liquidity squeeze on banks. Both the Shanghai Composite Index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index also fell amid concerns over structural problems in China’s financial system.
The Chinese seven-day bond repurchase rate, which essentially measures liquidity in the financial system, climbed to 7.6pc its highest since fears over a banking crisis in China first emerged over the summer.
State media in China had reported that the PBOC has unexpectedly pumped $33bn (£20bn) into the domestic money market through what it refers to as “short-term liquidity operation”.
“The focus is again on China where there is plenty of discussion on the squeeze in interbank funding markets,” said Deutsche Bank in a note to investors Friday.

“The repo rate is now higher than yesterday amid market talk of a missed payment at a local Chinese bank. This is something to monitor over the next few days.”
Fears over a looming Chinese debt crisis spurred by a poorly regulated and opaque financial system stoked fears over the summer that the Asian powerhouse could finally be on the brink of a sharp slowdown in growth.
Much concern also surrounds what has become known as the “shadow banking” system that allows the Chinese to borrow money beyond their means.

I would say, "bitcoin to the rescue!" although I'm not sure how it would help. Perhaps the recent banning has something to do with this.

I was thinking about the same, stocks went down because of(didnt search that matter yet) people were investing in Bitcoin so they had to something about it .... and now we are in this situation....

Sorry I'm new. Who is Rpietila?

He is just a guy claiming he knows a thing or two about Bitcoin. Also owns a coin or two.  Wink

A poster boy surrounding himself with drooling wannabe moneybags hoping to attract customers to his investment businesses, sometimes he takes a walk on the wild side.

If you are trading bitcoin for more than 2 years and still doesn't have at least 5 figures you are doing it wrong, so beware of experts because they can just be lucky guys.

Myself included  Grin

5 figures in BITCOIN!?!?!?!? 'cause then F$CK I'm doing it wrong.

7 figures ? hahahahah

and I think he meant 5 figures worth of USD Wink

Sorry I'm new. Who is Rpietila?

He is just a guy claiming he knows a thing or two about Bitcoin. Also owns a coin or two.  Wink

he is the guy who claims that he is a Pro trader and he can predict Bitcoin moves, the thing about bitcoin is that we can only speculate because the movements are somehow unpredictable.

when we are speculating with the charts and movements some big bag holder can just drop a shit load of coins bringing the price to the lowers lows, or another scenario is someone buying 20K coins at once and bring us to $1500 in one hour.... this what bitcoin is.... don't trade based on what we say here and don't get emotional to peoples Ideas....

Would a 20k buy bring the price to $1500?

depends where you look, If I look to bitstamps order book 20K will brings us over &1300 and looking to gox order book 20K will bring us a bit over $1100

20k spread across all markets is what you should be looking at.

if you want to bring the price up where would you buy ?

I would buy at gox, because trying to bring the price over 1300 at bitstamp will be somehow a failure, and I mean doing that by running a market order.... even if you would put some buying walls t prevent the price from droping people will simply eat the walls how ? most people will see the chance of getting their cash out of gox by selling their coins at stamp and your try will be worthless......

so I think you do not need to spread the cash, all you need is to push the price at gox and the market will follow (except china for now ...)

If you buy you don't want to bring the price up! You want the price to stay the same as much as possible to avoid slippage. People that buy to bring the price up or sell to bring the price down in an attempt to influence the market are fucking retarded.

and BTW this is what we really have, it is called manipulation you know that better than me.

2600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GHash.IO and double-spending against BetCoin Dice on: December 20, 2013, 09:44:02 AM
mmitech I thought bitcoin was initially set up not for gambling or volatility but to protect hard earned money of investors which was losing its worth due to lose monetary policies of Central banks worldwide. Now everything has turned into a gamble either its stock market, forex market, futures market or bitcoins. I am really tired of short term investors

bitcoin is not a short term investment, on every stock market there is the temporary riders that jumps in and out collecting some profits but the long term strategy always win... if you knew about bitcoin 2009 and if you would invest only $100 into bitcoin you would be a multi-millionaire today.

the network security is something else, and this is what we are discussing in this thread, you have GHash.IO constantly adding power you also have BTCguild with the same amount of power

what I don't understand is how miners keep joining BTCguild when they have many other pools with lower hashrate, some even join the private pool GHash.IO !!!!
