I did not start this topic and I have not cut any deals with pirate. I am not in bed with pirate. I do not know pirate. I have never talked to him on the phone even, nor have I ever met him. I have no idea what he looks like or if Trenden Shavers is in fact his real name or not. I do not know if anyone in the community even knows his phone number, much less if it's an anonymous line. I do not know what he is doing behind the scenes. For the last time, my bet is one of faith. I am prepared to lose and be wrong, but the mere act of making the bet sets a precedent for loud mouthed dipshits in this community to finally back their "expert opinions" with more than an anonymous throwaway sockpuppet reputation. Monday has passed and still no word, not a single peep from PIrate. The last thing he said in the chatroom was "Now back to your regularly scheduled trolling". I wonder if he's fled to cancun or something. Someone posted a link (perhaps as a joke) of an address to a live feed of a plane that was going to South America. Who knows. What is insurance other than something to help comfort you? If my word is not enough insurance, very well, try someone who offers something more comforting to you. The fact is, no matter who says what, you don't know if they're even who they say they are. If you can trust other members with collateral but not a man who gives you his word, perhaps you have problems with trust.
Dank Bank is fully insured in the sense that it will not default, period. You can take your 1000 BTC elsewhere for a lower rate or you can try having faith in someone for once.

Still hypothetically,  I hope the bitcoin community has considered the very real danger posed by an individual in control of 500K of BTC. Sure there are accounts with balances almost as high but what is to prevent Pirate or anyone else with so much BTC from cyclically crashing the market and buying up more coins? Some might say that someone with so many coins wouldn't destroy the market as they are so invested in it, but what happens if their Buy/Sell cycle doesn't destroy bitcoin in the long run, but they are just taking a wager that they can pull it off enough times while bitcoin is small enough and then quit misbehaving when it's bigger? Even if you can't regularly do $15 to $8, even 1-2$ in change often enough could eventually give you monopolistic power over the bitcoin system. For bitcoin's sake- I hope Pirate Returns the money, and the community stays away from such "financial innovation" in the future, even if it's not a ponzi. It's a feature, not a flaw. If you were rich, would you want us barking at you for being able to "control" our supposedly decentralized perfect new world freedom currency? If it's a problem, it won't be fixed by wishful thinking, sunshine and farts, it will be fixed at the application layer. |
