2922  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Everyone looses in the long run on: October 22, 2015, 04:21:03 AM
Yes I mentioned this on a previous post and that's actually the main culprit, human emotion. Even if you somehow manage to beat the system for a while, this plays against you since it gives you a sense of false power making you lose that money quicker actually.

One idea we didn't discuss I think was to make your betting career a one-off. We all know it's not sustainable. That's what I actually did without knowing, I've gambled for months only to lose a big cut of my profits in just some minutes. I immediately stopped gambling on casino games (my story was with real casinos). The problem is that I didn't even noticed my behavior, it was just natural. I was clearly not a gambler or really addicted to it.

So I think we can add one more rule for the curious ones, one can follow all the advise previously mentioned for a month and then vow to never seriously gamble again when a losing streak starts to creep.

Reducing the house edge definitely is more fair than before. However it doesn't change the main idea we are discussing here. It actually kinda sends the wrong signal, like you can actually have the same chance as the house in the long run as the title says. You don't.

Like others, I agree that the best strategy is to consider the deposit money as already lost, withdraw the minute you are ahead and keep as cool as possible. And finally, bet as sporadically as possible.
2924  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Googlecoin or Facecoin? on: October 22, 2015, 02:46:27 AM
I find it weird that neither of these companies established a token, especially Facebook. People pay for stupid stuff on games, actual dollars so you can imagine they will buy some tokens. And with some like tokens you can fund a cause on Facebook or used in groups, etc. I mean the possibilities are endless. I know there are many similar ideas, but it just takes Facebook or Google to do it and will be instantly used everywhere (mostly Facebook, Google had plenty of misfires in its recent history).

The issue is that it's tangential to their business models and it opens them up to scrutiny and regulation that otherwise they can ignore. For example, in certain countries game companies (Blizzard) that offer goods in game are not allowed to also host a marketplace for those goods. Aka, you can't create infinite Bags of Holding and then put them on the marketplace to sell since that would essentially be a market manipulation.

Facebook and Google are smart to concentrate on moving around USD - let's face it, it's in far higher demand than tokens.

I see how that can be difficult to implement due to those issues. Maybe taking out fiat altogether? Just tokens that can be used within the site and not bought. Facebook just send you some, or you win them with likes, etc. I know this raises other issues, people still paying to get some but Facebook is known for its security (I know laugh all you want but it's impressive if you think about it) so maybe they can handle or ban you.

I agree with you though that if they didn't do it until now, then maybe they are better without it or the options they have are too complicated and not worth it.

I feel the pain of the many guys who fell for this, but I just can't believe how this continue to happen in a forum where one can assume is full with developers, designers, engineers, etc. I sadly admit that I also feel that you deserved it. I don't want to feel that way but I can't find any other words for this. You are practically giving your money away, it hardly qualifies as a scam.
2927  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Everyone looses in the long run on: October 21, 2015, 08:03:35 PM
It isn't exactly true that everyone loses in the long run.  The correct phrasing would be, most people lose in the long run due to probability and stats.  There are always a few lucky people who bend that rule though.

This is exactly why I wrote my post, please read it. No one can bend the rules. We are talking about casino games with house edge of course. Some other games, like sports betting, poker, prediction ones, they require certain skill and research (although you generally lose there too). But at least in those, in theory, you are the one choosing based on facts or just plain knowledge.

All Hail Neo Socrates, you are making me raise both of my eyebrows. Our debate remains the same, but it's scary to learn these new facts. You really made me question some things about Google, I'm still not completely sold on them being ruled by Darth Vader, but I definitely see the company with new eyes now. There's really no justification for some things they are doing, it just seems too much. However I'm still shouting "Resistance is futile". I'll applaud your John Connor efforts from the distance and raise a fist in support  Grin

Some strategies can work in theory, combined with depositing money that you don't care about if you lose and cashing out the minute you are ahead like others have mentioned. If you can do that AND remain emotionless about it AND play once in a while AND still manage to get some fun out of it (while being an emotionless robot) then go ahead and do it. I'll be the first in line to bet against you...
2932  Other / Off-topic / Re: IS UFO or ALIENS are real ? on: October 20, 2015, 05:58:27 PM
I think we should really meditate on what alien means. The minute we discover aliens we will understand that we are all children of the universe and not just earth, so alien is an odd word or concept. Anyway as long as there is a planet or rock out there in space with some certain conditions there is possibility of life just as life evolved here. Maybe that chance happened 25.000 years ago in another galaxy and some kind of life developed but we never knew. Or maybe it's happening now but in its very early stages. Perhaps it happens 1 million years into the future.

Human civilization has around 5.000 years of records and facts, some of them are even disputed until this day because technology was obsolete or records has been lost or compromised. Printing press alone was invented just 600 years ago. That's really absolutely NOTHING in comparison of how old the universe or even life on earth has existed.

So the simple answer should be yes. But I doubt there is animal, intelligent or more intelligent life in our galaxy or close ones right now. Debating if there is life in another dimension (because if it's so far away that it is unreachable is like another dimension) it is pointless.
2933  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Everyone looses in the long run on: October 20, 2015, 03:54:33 PM
yah, it is really very hard to stop. it is like when u r on a winning streak, you will believe you are and carry on playing. and when u lose a bit, you will bet more to win back cause u will believe you are winning, it is only when you lose quite a huge amount that you realise it is no longer and most of the time you end up losin becuz of that.

Exactly, even if you are ahead, what I did was very very rare, that is to walk out after you lose a portion of your small fortune. 99.9% of gamblers will try to cover the losses either in that night or start fresh another day (and eventually lose the remaining amount).
2934  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Everyone looses in the long run on: October 20, 2015, 03:23:44 PM
I do agree that the house edge always gets you, now I'm not a gambler at all however in my early years I used to go to a local casino for half an hour and win around $15-30-50 a day. It was in an electronic type roulette. I swear I somehow learned a pattern where certain numbers kinda started to fall which eventually lead to me betting on number zero and win big.

The moral of the story is that, while I did this for a month or so and I was very disciplined (cashing out after I hit 0 or other number), one night I thought I was invincible and started playing BlackJack because I wanted more. I think I loss 30-40% of my winnings so far in that one night. So even if you somehow managed to get good in a game, a bad streak or a bad decision will take it all away eventually. The casino knows that when you win, you will come back to lose it all sooner or later.

I know what you are wondering, so why don't you just kept playing on the roulette? I did for a little why, but they eventually closed it and then later upgraded it for a new one. There was no pattern to learn on this one...  Cry

The most true words about gambling. A real story of everything I write in my posts about gambling since the first day I wrote about it. This post mus be read by everyone who gamble. Every word of this post is a precious lesson for every gambler. This story will be repeated always by everyone which will continue to gamble.

From above post:

The casino knows that when you win, you will come back to lose it all sooner or later.

This is the cruel true for every gambler. Gambling create addiction. The addiction create for sure loss of all the money. End of story.  Sad

Thanks, while my story is actually a happy one since it was not really an addiction at all (that's also scarier, imagine what could happen if that was the case) I completely agree that these concepts and messages should always be mentioned first. This is a forum with very intelligent people, geeks, developers, etc and we somehow still fall for this mind tricks, it doesn't make sense.

Anyway, I still think that some types of gambling are ok to do once in a while. For example when there is no house edge, a lottery once in a while or maybe sports betting or betting on something that isn't going to take all your money the longer you play. If you are good at poker or predicting sports or whatever then YOU have the edge. With that said, just have fun like I did and forget about it no matter if you win or lose.

I knew this was a pump & dump so I sold some of my share, but now that it's a reality I'm a little disappointed, not with DGB of course but with the whole environment I guess and also my decision to sell. I'm waiting for it drop a little more to buy again my share.

I think I feel bad about it because pump & dumps is a way to get money like it or not without doing something illegal. But at the same time is betraying my believe of holding firm until the projects really flourish.

I understand, but how one knows where is the limit? It's kinda like gambling I guess, taking a chance. But you will always lose your last investment right?
2937  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: BitHourler.com - Bitcoin doubler on: October 20, 2015, 02:15:07 AM
I see thanks, I was asking because I can't believe intelligent people in this forum would fall time and time again for something like this. Not sure if it's ethical from your part (I know you are not the one scamming anyone) but I personally wouldn't feel too comfortable taking part in this.
2938  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: BitHourler.com - Bitcoin doubler on: October 20, 2015, 01:33:53 AM
Why do people still fall for this things? It looks just like a ponzi scheme to me. Did any of these sites worked ever or still works? Please educate me.
2939  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Use cases. What do you actually use Bitcoin for? on: October 20, 2015, 01:29:24 AM
I'm relatively new to Bitcoin like many others. I've only used for saving/investment but also for trading with some altcoins. I still haven't purchase any product or service with it since it was hard for me to actually obtain it in the first place so it's like a treasure.

This to me is the weakest link, it should be very easy to get Bitcoins worldwide.
2940  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Start a Gambling Site on: October 20, 2015, 01:24:09 AM
If you want to create the same old gambling site without bringing anything new to the table then not sure. But there will always be room for unique and innovative ways to gamble. I don't particular like same old house edge casinos or dice site, they provide a service that sometimes is good for quick fun but in the end you'll lose. Fantasy draft leagues are hot right now (not in Bitcoin but you know, FanDuel, etc), sports betting is a good option if you create one with a twist, etc.

It's just how you market the idea and the usability, if you create something very easy and appealing to use you'll be miles ahead of the competition.
