2961  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How does the IRS look at anonymous bitcoin? on: July 30, 2022, 02:43:05 AM

Latvian NFT Artist €8.7 Million Earnings Seized Over Allegations of Money Laundering
"The Latvian government has frozen NFT artist Ilya Borisov’s earnings of around €8.7 million over allegations of money laundering. He faces up to 12 years in jail if found guilty."

I understand that this case is with NFT tokens, but any of your income in cryptocurrency may be considered illegal by the tax authorities.

Well, in any case it will be the income in crypto that you cannot clearly justify.

Besides, as I have commented several times in these cases, the amount matters, and a lot. It is not the same that the Ministry of Finance or the IRS or equivalent in your country, thinks you have €8.7M of dubious origin that the amount is only €870. In the first case he faces up to 12 years in jail if found guilty. In the second case the penalty if found guilty will not be more than a small fine (I understand that this is the case in many countries, although I do not dare to say that it is the same in all of them).

I've seen people on other forums say that NFTs would be a good way to launder money, but in light of news like this, it doesn't look like they are.

Edit: I'd like to know what o_e_l_e_o  or LoyceV think about this, as we have discussed similar topics in other threads.

I have searched for more information but cannot find more details. Without them, I speculate that the sales of NFTs that he has declared are not registered like the sale of a house or a car in which in a contract the names of the buyer and seller are put and both are perfectly identified.

And this is what I had seen in other forums say: that to launder money a good way would be to create an NFT and say that you have sold it when in fact the funds have been transferred to yourself from an unidentifiable source, either with Monero, or with Bitcoin that has gone through a mixer or similar systems.

2962  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Here is why they say to store your seed "offline" on: July 30, 2022, 02:22:37 AM
Well no, I do not agree with the title of the thread. That amazon is going to shut down its cloud service has nothing to do with what is usually said about saving your seeds offline.

Amazon is going to stop providing a service and if you store things in that cloud, you will have to find another service if you want to continue storing them in a cloud.

Saving things in a cloud has its advantages and should always be done with information that is not too sensitive, as mentioned above.

But saving your seeds offline is often said because from the moment you have them online, there is a risk that they will be stolen by hackers, and for that it doesn't matter if Amazon Drive stops its service on Dec. 31, 2023.
2963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1 year of accepting crypto payment in my fashion store on: July 30, 2022, 02:06:48 AM
A typical crypto transaction at my store look like this:

1.The cashier gives the customers a Bitcoin QR code to make payment

2. The QR code is customized to tell customer’s crypto wallet where to send the bitcoins and how much to send.

3. The Bitcoin payment is confirmed by the cashier.

It is similar to some Bitcoin ATM transactions, as far as I can see.

I keep wondering how it is when someone, for example, buys something that costs 100$, that person pays 100$ in bitcoin and hours later the price of bitcoin drops a lot and you get 97$ in bitcoin, then you take the 97$ in bitcoin and will buy the thing for 98$ and then sell it for 100$. in this scenario you are at a loss and how will you deal with this situation for a long time?
He's already thinking of a payment gateway deal with an exchange.

I'm curious about this too. I would imagine that because of the volatility the most logical thing to do is to automatically convert to USD or some stable currency. Unless you want to HODL part of your profit automatically, but somehow you have to convert it fast to avoid downside volatility. If it's upside it's not a problem but you never know what's going to happen.

-snip

I think JollyGood has done a good job on 1xBit, but one thing that struck me about him is that he has 2452 members excluded from his trust list.

I looked at his trust list because some people say that he gives negative feedback too easily, although it seems that overall he has done a positive job and is a good scam buster.

In the end I decided to stay neutral, neither add him to my trust list nor exclude him.

I realize now that JollyGood wears the signature of Duelbits and that you defend that in this case he has a behavior opposite to the usual, with respect to the company that pays him.

I guess JollyGood will come to the thread to defend himself, I'm surprised he hasn't come already.

Multiple accounts is bullshit. If someone has created multiple accounts cheating a bonus or promotion, then ban said user and their alts. Don't allow a user to keep depositing or something like that, then they get a win and get fucked out of it. If they have multi accounts and you allowed them to deposit, then on that deposit they won without cheating, pay that man his money period.

Things like this are what I was referring to earlier:

2966  Economy / Speculation / Re: Your most realistic ATH prediction for the next cycle? on: July 29, 2022, 09:00:59 AM
We are all lunatics Bitcoin believer when we dream Bitcoin price will go above 20K when the price is less than a grand.  Cheesy

Also many of us dream of the day when Bitcoin will be worth $1M.

There was even a guy who said he was going to eat his dick on national TV if he missed the prediction (by the end of 2020), but I think to get there it will take quite a while.
2967  Economy / Speculation / Your most realistic ATH prediction for the next cycle? on: July 29, 2022, 08:33:13 AM
I think the $69k was the peak of this cycle, which was only 3.5X the previous ATH. I believe that going forward we are not going to have higher returns, so I would expect that in the next cycle, the price will clearly exceed $100k but not break $200k.

I would expect a high of around $185k or so, with resistance at $200k which will be difficult to break.

This is very hypothetical and if high inflation were to continue over time and go higher, which I don't think it will, as central banks are starting to try to curb it, we could break $200k.

What do you think will be the maximum price for the next cycle and why?

2968  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Legal Tender in Central African Republic on: July 29, 2022, 04:56:38 AM
In case of Central African Republic, at least they didn't converted any of their Forex reserves to Bitcoin (do they have any Forex to start with?). In case of El Salvador, they converted a large part of their forex to Bitcoin, and in addition to that they also setup facilities to mine cryptocurrency. Now they are in deep trouble, because the Bitcoin prices plummeted by around 70% from the peak levels. And actually this has discouraged other countries from taking a similar step, and make Bitcoin a legal tender in their jurisdictions.

But in the case of El Salvador, the key is that they can hold out until the next cycle or until the price recovers significantly. Chances are that we have seen the bottom of this cycle and that from now on the price will go up, not in a straight line obviously but with some oscillations. If this happens, El Salvador's move will look better and better as the price goes up.

The problem with Bitcoin is volatility, which as time goes on should reduce. If this comes to pass, we will see many countries holding Bitcoin for their reserves, just as they now hold gold.
2969  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: buying low and selling high on: July 29, 2022, 03:52:47 AM
If we are talking about Bitcoin only, it is better to do DCA if you don't have a lump sum to invest all at once. If you do, someone who has been following the markets for a while would identify that now is a low good time to buy, regardless of whether the price may fall in the short term, and invest the lump sum now.

When it comes to selling, what you should never do is sell all your Bitcoin. When we get back into the bull market, when we hit $69k or even $100k, you can sell to taste profits but small pieces and always remaining invested.
2970  Economy / Economics / Re: You don't earn money only from others, but also when you avoid spending your own on: July 29, 2022, 03:47:08 AM
Usually people get anxious and frenetic for new sources of income, to find new jobs, so they can maximize their patrimony as soon as possible, but many of them forget you don't accumulate wealth only when receiving money or being paid by others for a work. We can also decrease our expenses and stop third-partying tasks we can do ourselves, so at the end of a monthly cycle we will have earned more money to invest and make it grow overtime.

You are partly right, and besides, when you withdraw from spending, what you save is net, since it has already paid taxes. If you invest it or have it in an account that gives you interest, you will pay taxes on the interest or yield it gives you, but not on what you have already saved.

If you look for new sources of income, however, you will pay taxes on what you earn, although I prefer this option, without obsessing and stressing. Or even try to increase your current income without looking for new sources. With this you will be able to spend more and also save almost effortlessly.

2971  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This Made Me Angry on: July 29, 2022, 03:39:36 AM
What country do you live in? I'm in the US and in the 50+ years that I've had bank accounts I have never - repeat NEVER EVER - ran into any restrictions in how often I access and use my savings accounts.

Restrictions on how often sounds very strange to me as well. Restrictions when you want to withdraw or transfer large amounts yes, but not on the frequency, especially nowadays when I do everything online. It is clear that the good thing about Bitcoin is that it does not have these kinds of restrictions. If you want to send money 20 times or send $20B, you can do it without any kind of restriction.

2972  Economy / Reputation / Re: Thead locked I owe it to aew. JollyGood and his Feedback on: July 29, 2022, 03:27:03 AM
Oh I’m sure the casino has something in their TOS that says they can take all his money whenever they want..

That's what I thought. They can put in their TOS that if you find a bug they can take away a kidney of yours if they want, another thing is if it is legal.

We can think about whether we consider it more ethical for someone who finds the bug to tell the casino instead of taking advantage of the bug, but if we start listing morally questionable actions by casinos both traditionally and nowadays we would make a long list.

2973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin soars as the FederalReserve raises the key interest rate by 75 basis pnt on: July 28, 2022, 08:34:13 AM
This is a bit counter-intuitive, as raising rates is not usually bullish for the economy, but both the USA stock market and Bitcoin had a fair price spike following the news. I understand that this is because the Fed is showing that it is determined to tackle inflation, but it is not clear to me that it can keep rates like this or higher without us going into recession, so they are in a dilemma.
2974  Economy / Reputation / Re: Why was franky1 banned from Dev & Tech? on: July 28, 2022, 08:31:18 AM
Trolling can lead you to ban. Am I wrong?

AFAIK that happened in the past. Nobody has been banned for trolling in the recent years. At least I saw someone saying this on another thread.
2975  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the bottom in for BTC? on: July 28, 2022, 06:02:30 AM
While we cannot be 100% sure, I would say that the $17k we saw recently was the bottom of this cycle, barring catastrophic news.

I didn't quite understand that after the rate hike both Bitcoin and the stock market went up. In theory less liquidity is going to make them go up less, but I guess that is because with these rate hikes inflation is going to be curbed.

What I don't see is great joy until the next cycle. I don't think we will beat the ATH until then.

2976  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Thanks to Bitcoin Forum on: July 28, 2022, 05:51:54 AM
Congratulations, but as far as I can see there has been a gap in your activity since you registered. If you continue to contribute to the forum regularly in a constructive manner, you will move up more ranks.

But don't cheat, because there are too many people in your situation who get desperate and choose to take the fast and dishonest way out, so they end up getting caught and it's worse.
2977  Economy / Reputation / Re: Thead locked I owe it to aew. JollyGood and his Feedback on: July 28, 2022, 04:35:15 AM
Lol. Another drama on the reputation section.

I quite like this section but sometimes it seems the gossip section.

For the time being, I am going to remain neutral with respect to Jollygood.

As for the Duelbits case, I comment here what I think, since the thread is locked. If a casino has a bug, it's the casino's fault, and if someone discovers it and makes money from the bug, he has every right to do so. In a lawsuit the casino would have everything to lose, and so it happened with some poker players, mathematicians by profession, who found imperfections in the roulette wheels of physical casinos around the world and took advantage of it.

2978  Economy / Reputation / Re: Why was franky1 banned from Dev & Tech? on: July 27, 2022, 08:32:17 AM
I put him on my ignore list, because he knows a lot, yes, but just as he gives you walls of text about things he is right, he gives you walls of text about things he is not right and he is constantly entrenched in his position.

An example in this thread:

Also: PLEASE REALIZE THAT franky's ARGUMENTS ARE GARBAGE. As they are based on a former draft on a slightly different subject, that didn't pass, as I've shown on page 2.

And when he argues, he changes your argument and counterargues against something you had not said, which happened to me debating with him before in other threads. So for me the solution was to put him on my ignore list. Without acrimony and without having anything personal against him.

Most of the negative feedback he got is not valid to me.

For me neither, those referring to his opinions or how he argues should be neutral in color, even if they are negative in spirit.
2979  Economy / Reputation / Re: Green trusted user vouching for shady site on: July 27, 2022, 07:57:50 AM
First, your Terms and Conditions refer to "Shaker.finance (the Service)" but there is no LLC/LTD therefore can you elaborate who is actually behind the mixer?

Second, your clauses mean you can scam anybody without fear of legal action therefore your website should be avoided by everybody:

4.3 Limitation of liability

TO THE FULL EXTENT PERMITTED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES NEITHER Shaker.finance NOR EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, PARTNERS, VENDORS, LICENSORS ARE LIABLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, DELIBERATE OR OTHER DAMAGE (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGE BY LOST PROFIT, REVENUE, REPUTATION) OCCURRED WHEN USING THIS SERVICE.

I understand market I'm in, 20 BTC is limit per mix not whole balance of the mixer
Ok. So roughly how much BTC do you have to support the operation of your mixer? Can you sign a message from an address holding some part of those funds?

Perhaps you could also explain why your Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are plagiarized word for word from /en/terms/]https://[banned mixer]/en/terms/?
And perhaps you could also explain why your letters of guarantee all return a bad signature from Jambler's public key?
I doubt the funds exist, he cannot sign any wallet at all that demonstrates he has any funds.

I see I was right to leave him negative trust, as any honest business would have addressed the issues raised in this thread convincingly in a couple of days at most.

His angry way of responding, not signing a message to show the funds the business have, the plagiarism, etc., show that this is either a scam about to happen or people managing this business are extremely unprofessional, and in neither case should people do business with them.

2980  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Steps to owning sats on: July 27, 2022, 07:00:16 AM
This thread is not about steps to owning Sats. The title does not refer to what's being talked about in the OP, and vice versa.

Anyway, it is enough just to know that we don't have to buy a whole Bitcoin.

And I would say the title is misleading because I doubt you can buy 1 sat or just 10 sats, plus if you could do that you couldn't transfer them to your hardware wallet. Even if it appeared in your exchange account that you have 10 sats, it wouldn't do you any good, at least at today's prices.

And I would say the title is misleading because I doubt you can buy 1 sat or just 10 sats, plus if you could do that you couldn't transfer them to your hardware wallet. Even if it appeared in your exchange account that you have 10 sats, it wouldn't do you any good, at least at today's prices.

If you want to stack sats, make it at least 1,000 in 1,000, and if it is 10,000 in 10,000 or greater amounts, even better. Then a problem that people who collect sats that win in faucets find is that to transfer them for having many inputs of little amount, the fees eat up what they have.
