2341  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your motive for giving on: October 28, 2022, 02:40:24 AM
So, there should never be a reason to give! as the slogan says; " Just do it".

In this regard I have been thinking that there are indeed motives in terms of political ideology.

Normally, someone who is left-wing tends to think that it is the state through taxes that has to collect and redistribute wealth, so that in an ideal, perfect state (which will never exist) no one would be poor.

I don't want to say that it is impossible to be a leftist and give money to charities, etc, but in general I would say that the percentage is lower because of the above explained and more if you live in a country where social democratic policies are implemented, like Denmark for example.

My reason for giving is that it is a good action in itself. I don't have to think of complicated arguments to justify it.

Another thing I have thought in this regard is that it changes the way you are in a positive way. The moment that donating money becomes one more item in your monthly budget like paying utilites or groceries, and you think of other occasions to donate money to the extent of your possibilities, you are moving away from the selfish part that we all have.

2342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / How can this be done? on: October 27, 2022, 02:00:02 PM
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5387753.msg60022386#msg60022386

As I commented in a thread in Meta, I am thinking of giving a prize for the best analysis of a poker hand.

As an analysis has a certain component of subjectivity, I would like to make clear the criteria I will use without revealing it.

That is to say, in the OP I will explain what is central to the analysis, but the criteria for evaluating the best analysis I would like to leave it written down somewhere in an encrypted manner if possible, as in a signed message that cannot be deciphered until a later date, if I understood correctly what LoyceV did.

That way I could not be told that I have given the award to whom I like or dislike, but on the basis of objective criteria, written and encrypted in advance.

2343  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people withdraw their generosity during crisis? on: October 27, 2022, 11:58:47 AM
You ask a very generic question but it seems to be based on individual experience. I don't know what your particular case might be, but I have been able to increase my generosity in these times because I did things right and as a result I have done well financially.

Yours seems to be a particular case of someone who has let you down, and without knowing both views it is difficult to give a diagnosis.

2344  Economy / Gambling / Re: US players, where are you playing now? on: October 27, 2022, 10:35:14 AM
I was surprised recently to learn that there are still many states in the USA where gambling is illegal.

More than 10 years ago it was also illegal to play poker for US citizens, although most online houses turned a blind eye, until April 15, 2011, when the DoJ " issued an indictment against the three largest online poker websites in in the country: PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker. Immediately following the indictment PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, who generated the majority of online poker traffic, stopped offering players the chance to play for real money, effectively halting the poker boom started in the early 2000s and jeopardizing the livelihood of thousands of American poker players."

I guess a puritanical mentality has a lot to do with the fact that online gambling is banned in many states.

The best thing they could do is to legalize it throughout the USA with proper regulations and open it up to the world market.
2345  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: gambling techniques on: October 27, 2022, 07:53:35 AM
It's a martingale, like what the other members have said. It just seems to me that you are not aware that it was always a gambling strategy, and many people have won and lost using that strategy. It would help if you were careful about what you are doing because you might regret using it when it doesn't go in your favor in gambling.

You are right. This is exactly what I was talking about in a thread on Meta.

As for my strategy playing poker, nowadays it is based more on winning by NSDW than in the beginning, when I was winning by SDWs. Back then when there was a lot more fish and even the regulars didn't know how to play that much, just by raising strong hands, betting for value and not getting into problem situations it was easy to win. Much easier than today.

Nowadays if you don't steal like crazy and balance ranges you get eaten.

2346  Other / Meta / Re: The Reason why you chose your username on: October 27, 2022, 07:28:14 AM
In my case because obviously I play poker, online, for more than 10 years and although I am not Daniel Negreanu obviously when I had to choose the nickname I thought of "Poker Player". What surprised me is that this nickname was not already taken. Then when I saw how big is the gambling section in this forum I was even more surprised, although I think most of them play casino games and believe they can win long term with garbage strategies rather than playing games where the expected value of the bets can be positive (or have an RTP greater than 100% if preferred).

2347  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A new prime minister and Economic Crisis on: October 27, 2022, 07:02:13 AM
No, that's not what I said. Plenty of Conservative voters voted remain. Equally plenty of Labour voters voted leave. I'm talking here about leave voters (regardless of Con/Lab orientation) being racist and having difficulty grasping simple concepts. I'd argue that were Labour to elect a non-white leader, then many of the Labour voters who voted leave would be outraged (albeit more so if Labour were running the country).

Well, but whether it is one thing or another, we are in the same: about 17 and a half million voted leave.

I have said in other threads that in my opinion the Brexit was a mistake.

But that there are 17 and a half million racists and nincompoops in the UK seems to me too high a figure, and, although I'm sure you don't mean 100%, you do mean a high percentage.

If that were true, it would certainly change my opinion of the average UK citizen, as I think that in any civilized society the percentage of racists is clearly below 10%.
2348  Other / Meta / Re: See this burst poster here. on: October 26, 2022, 03:46:20 AM
Actually if you just open this particular board you can see that he already has like 5 topics.  Tongue

I've reported that post you are quoting as 0 value post. Either he has not read anything or he has not understood anything, and it seems to me that it is the former.

And the next day, that user made no posts at all. Coincidence? Up to you to decide!

The point is not so much to decide anything as it confirms my suspicions about him being a burstposter. He writes 25 posts in one day and the next day none. I'm even thinking of putting him on my ignore list.

On a more serious note, I think a few of us in the thread have agreed that burstposting in a negative sense is basically linked to low quality posts.

People who spread their posts over at least 5 or 6 days a week, and whose posts have a certain quality, even if 30% of their posts have an average separation of 10 minutes between them cannot be considered burstposters in a negative sense.

Another thing is the particular rules of each campaign. For example, mine counts a maximum of 5 posts per day. It is a way to make sure that the minimum to get paid is going to be written at least in 4 days. Another thing is that I write more posts in this and other campaigns that I know I will not get paid.

2349  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I won 9600$ in dice by mistake with 2% chance on: October 26, 2022, 03:29:08 AM
I already commented in another thread that I am not surprised by the OP's nickname, because he is clearly what we call a fish in poker. Someone who is easy for us to win but who thinks he knows how to play a lot and on top of that he gives you lessons at the table. Just take a look at his post history to know what I'm talking about.

Fish have lucky bets, as in this case, sometimes even lucky streaks, but they don't last long and they end up losing everything. I bet that the OP will not take long to deposit, in that or another site and lose everything and more.
2350  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will This Habit Lead You To Chase Your Losses And Addictive To Gambling on: October 26, 2022, 03:17:38 AM
Do you think it's unhealthy to always post your winnings on social media and forums because this habit will lead you to chase your losses and bet more so you can post your winning, I find this habit forming and this is bad especially if people are following you and always looking forward to your winning posts.

I think it is stupid if you do it on social media, unless you make a living from it by being a gambling Youtuber or something like that. On forums you are more anonymous, so it makes more sense. I see more advantages than disadvantages. It is one thing to answer a specific thread on the subject, but to give an account of it as if it were the income statement of a company does not make sense. It is better to maintain privacy.

Sometimes it's normal to be proud of your winnings because it can give you joy and satisfaction.

I think this is human nature where always proud for his achievements,

Are you aware that, with very few exceptions, the results of casino games do not depend on you? It's like being proud of rain or shine.
2351  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I made a mistake shorting BTC at 17k on: October 26, 2022, 03:05:17 AM
Short/long/leverage is gambling against financial sharks/whales.

Stick to hodl next time.

This. What the OP has done is to play roulette, and, although we cannot know the result a priori, we have more indications that we have touched the bottom or are close to it than the opposite. While the stock market has continued to go down these months, the Bitcoin has remained roughly in the range it is in.

To short the Bitcoin as a retail investor on pure intuition is to be a minnow and get close to where the sharks are.
2352  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A new prime minister and Economic Crisis on: October 25, 2022, 10:40:28 AM
*The fact that xenophobes and racists are largely the same, and that the xenophobes who wanted us to leave the EU did so in large part to get rid of people from India and Pakistan, despite India and Pakistan not being a part of Europe, says a lot about the intellectual wattage of the electorate and the wisdom of holding a plebiscite on anything important.

Interesting on the one hand, and on the other hand it seems to me like the Alice in Wonderland story but in reverse.

You mean the 14 million or so people who voted Conservative in 2019 are racists and moreover so dumb that they didn't know that with brexit they were not going to get rid of Indians and Pakistanis?

You missed the one about them being poor and voting Conservative because they want to feel part of an elite or something.

2353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Impact of Bitcoin on: October 25, 2022, 03:24:40 AM
Today, bitcoin and other cryptocurrency can be converted into other forms of money and deposited into user's accounts in an instant. Most crypto can be transacted anonymously, generally safe to use and difficult for malicious hackers to break.

A shame that a person with the seniority on this forum that you have is talking about converting bitcoin to fiat to pay instead of paying directly with it. And then that in the second sentence you somehow identify bitcoin and cryptocurrencies when they are essentially different is already the last straw.

Bitcoin is having more and more impact on society, just like cryptocurrencies but the latter are just another part of the system while the former at least was devised as an alternative to it. Another thing is that in daily use many people acquire or transfer them through centralized entities.
2354  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in-$200 FreeBTC⭐Win Lambo🔥0.2BTC DailyJackpot🏆$32,500 Wager Contest on: October 25, 2022, 03:18:12 AM
I just won 0.01 BTC Jackpot on Freebitco.in!!!

Started with only ~4k sats from free rolls, played the 0.00000002 jackpot for a bit then got 10k. Moved up once to the 0.0000013 jackpot and got 100k.

Here's the 8888 that's going to let me pay my light bill on time.  Cheesy

Hey, congrats man, but I don't know if I'm not looking at it right or something, but I can't see the jackpot. I see the 0.01 and change but not the jackpot in your history.
2355  Economy / Economics / Re: Not financial advise. Just an example. on: October 25, 2022, 03:05:38 AM
Well, the first thing would be not to have behaved stupidly and not to have gotten into so much credit card debt. But as played (a phrase we use a lot in poker) I would use the snowball method: pay off small debts first, regardless of the interest. From smaller debt to bigger debt. It doesn't make mathematical sense so much as psychological sense, and that's the important thing.
2356  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you get over a bad loss? on: October 25, 2022, 02:57:39 AM
What's your favorite thing to do when you get a bad loss?

Well, I am going to refer to poker specifically, since I play casino games on an occasional basis, with money that I can afford to lose, and I never exceed the budget that I have foreseen.

As for poker, I could divide the question in two: what is a bad beat and what is a bad session. Bad beads are something you get used to when you've been playing for years. Having more than a 90% chance of winning on the turn and losing on the river happens to me every day, so I'm (most of the time) emotionally neutral.

In bad sessions usually happen several bad beats and coolers and the best way to deal with it is emotionally neutral too, although we are human and sometimes it can affect your mood a little. If that's the case, I make the session shorter. I close earlier, and come back when I'm more rested, to play as emotionally neutral as I can.

2357  Other / Archival / Re: [LIST] Campaign Management Services on: October 24, 2022, 11:46:20 AM
That's surprising. I didn't know that he still does that. The last thing I saw or heard of Royse777 was that he asked those who had him in their trust lists to remove him. Seems a bit unorthodox to me to ask that and then resume campaign management services.

That's not the only thing that seems "unorthodox" to me, to say the least. Like presenting herself as a victim of Bitlucy and going supposedly on a cooling off period while was launching a big project hiding her real identity.

Thus my negative tag.

By the way, why are you referring to Royse777 as "her"? Grin
Did he, I mean she, identify as female somewhere?

No, it's just that the name sounds feminine to me, like Rose. But she might be gender fluid or something, or some of the other 82 supposed genders.
2358  Other / Archival / Re: [LIST] Campaign Management Services on: October 24, 2022, 09:32:17 AM
Maybe icopress or someone else can create another similar up-to-date thread if for whatever reason Ratimov is not interested in updating this one.
There are already a few active, is it necessary to create more lists? Creating more and more will make it less interesting to keep it up to date lol. pugman has a dedicated thread for the management service list although he doesn't update it recently but tranthidung one is up to date including many more services.
Thread by pugman- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4412712.0
By tranthidung- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5406507.0

I didn't know that, so, yes, you are right. We don't need more.
2359  Other / Archival / Re: [LIST] Campaign Management Services on: October 24, 2022, 03:43:41 AM

The list is not maintained and hasn't been updated in over two years. Some users on the list don't provide management services anymore and others, like icopress who bumped the topic, aren't in the list at all.

- mprep doesn't provide management services anymore and his thread is locked.
- I am not sure about actmyname, but no new posts have been made in his campaign thread since 2020.

Maybe icopress or someone else can create another similar up-to-date thread if for whatever reason Ratimov is not interested in updating this one.

Another that provides management services is Royse777, who recently bumped his/her thread, although I think it will be a little more difficult for her than for the rest due to her trust page.
2360  Economy / Gambling / Re: Do you visit the casino while travelling? on: October 24, 2022, 03:30:33 AM
When I have traveled I have never been to the casino, but I would not rule it out, for example, if I were to go to Monte Carlo or nearby. The casinos in this case online are part of my routine. They are work for me. And when I go on a trip I am on vacation, so I don't think about work.
