2161  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: EU crypto taxation proposal will target firms all over the world on: December 11, 2022, 06:41:17 AM
Also, it's a proposal and not a law yet. I don't see much impact even if it is signed as a law in EU. It seems ECB and EU parliament is doing everything they can do to bring down the importance and circulation of cryptos in EU.

Surprised? There are places where they have implemented favorable legislation for innovation in the crypto world and instead the EU basically wants to turn that world into a kind of banking transactions, where everything is controlled by KYC.

Seeing the drift that the EU has I am not surprised. Add to this Lagarde's statements on the Euro CBDC and we can see where this is heading: towards total population control.

I do think it's going to have quite an impact with a gambling analogy. EU countries are the ones with the strictest regulations on gambling, requiring in most cases a country specific license to offer gambling services. It's not a 100% working thing but it works to a large extent, and I think with cryptocurrency regulation the same thing will happen.

The only good thing is that if these bureaucrats foresee it by 2026, it will probably take longer.
2162  Economy / Economics / Re: Use your money wisely. Invest or Deposit ? on: December 10, 2022, 02:01:07 PM
Now you have $100,000 in your account, pure savings, and you don't need this amount of money to cover your daily expenses. Obviously it's good/free money to use at will. Let's say if you deposit the money into a bank and the annual interst rate is 3%, you will get a steady interest income year by year. If you use this money to buy Bitcoin, let's say the BTC drops to $17,000, you'll buy less than 6 Bitcoins. In the long run, what would you do with this money ? And why ?

For me, two points are basic:

1) Do you have an emergency fund? If not, out of that $100k set aside an amount between 3 and 6 months of expenses for emergencies.
2) Do you have a positive cash flow from one or more sources of income that allows you to continue saving/investing? If the answer is yes, I would invest all of it once the emergency fund is set aside. Otherwise I would be more conservative.
2163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please be ready on: December 10, 2022, 01:53:22 PM
Does anyone else see this as a merit fishing attempt?

I just want to say hello. In a hundred+ years they will look back on what "Satoshi" did in absolute awe. We're here now ladies and gentlemen!!!! Just appreciate it!!! We are living through one of the most important times in human history. Bitcoin is a real store of interplanetary value.

You've gone too far with that. That thing about 100 years from now, well, in this forum surely many of us think the same, but you have taken out of your sleeve a new concept, because in order to have interplanetary value there should be some kind of relationship between planets that today there is not, and it is quite improbable that there will be in only 100 years.
2164  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk forum vs OpenAI - ChatGPT on: December 10, 2022, 09:24:32 AM
I would like to try to create an account that would write posts exclusively with the help of AI
Name the account OpenAI - ChatGPT Smiley

I say I'm not going to do it for lack of time mainly, but if someone did, I don't think it would be very smart to let it show with the name that an AI is being used, as I think the forum members would be more reluctant at first to give merit to the account.
2165  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk forum vs OpenAI - ChatGPT on: December 10, 2022, 09:15:53 AM
Stack Overflow banned them[/url]. Dutch media had an article about it today, they described it as "AI makes predictions". I think that's a good way to describe it: it's a model, and that model can be improved by feeding it more data. But it can easily be wrong, and without manual review can give incorrect answers.

Instead of the negative, I think the leverage opportunity is here.

I don't have time for more, but I would like to try to create an account that would write posts exclusively with the help of AI, revised and rewritten adapting them to each case, obviously. And with citations to avoid plagiarism.

I think the result would be to do more with less. More quality in less time.

Sounds like fraud.

Sounds like science to me:

2166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I became Independent Because of Cryptocurrency on: December 10, 2022, 08:53:52 AM
Am I missing something here?

Someone opens a thread claiming to be trading and making about $100 a month with crypto and not only gets 13 merits so far, but the thread is on its way to becoming a spam megathread with lots of congratulations.

Good luck to the OP, but trading "crypto" with a bankroll of a few hundred $ to make $100 a month has a near 100% chance of bankruptcy in the medium term.

OP, you will have an easier and less risky way to earn a few hundred dollars a month with signature campaigns.
2167  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk forum vs OpenAI - ChatGPT on: December 09, 2022, 05:55:32 AM
Is someone going to pay money for "art" generated by AI?

If they don't know it's made by an AI and are convinced that a famous artist has made them, I'm pretty sure they will do. I'd like to see double blind experiments with this.

Besides, the question is not so much how much can be paid, but how much can be saved by companies that currently have draftsmen on staff.

Going back to OpenAI, at the moment it's capped and doesn't get real time information, but I imagine that in the future that will be the case. Does anyone know if this is the case?

As I commented in the other thread, I already saw some time ago that there are blogs that generate revenue written in good part by AI.
2168  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mark Mobius Prediction Bitcoin could hit $10k at 2023 on: December 09, 2022, 05:34:11 AM
Well, just as last year there seemed to be a competition to see who could give the highest prediction, now the competition is reversed.

Up to $0.5M predicted the peak supercycle theory for Bitcoin this cycle.

That said, $10k in 2023 doesn't seem far-fetched. It's a likely scenario, but I think that while people are still predicting downside, the price is going to turn around at some point and start going up, now that pretty much all the leverage that was there has evaporated.
2169  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are Elon Musk & Trump planning a coup in the US? on: December 09, 2022, 05:06:46 AM
I mean, just add 2 + 2

2+2 results in you guys first saying that Musk was basically a fool who doesn't understand business with the purchase of Twitter, and now that he's come out with the truth about party censorship, you've moved on to making up conspiracies.

Typical of communists. Censoring the truth and passing off party information as objective reality.
2170  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk forum vs OpenAI - ChatGPT on: December 08, 2022, 06:22:51 PM
I’m sure advertisers will be running their own AI forum bots to bypass the need for signature campaigns. A whole new flood of issues is about to hit the internet me thinks.

That's certainly a possibility, and I think campaigns like 1xCrap will be thinking about it right now, because for what they want the quality is more than good enough.

This debate goes much further. IA midjourney illustrations are also much better than those of the average cartoonist. That to this day, and they just keep getting better and better. They're going to do a lot of less necessary jobs, and others will come out, just as there were no youtubers or influencers 30 years ago.

As far as I'm concerned, I've had this debate in poker. When the first bots came out, people made fun, or rather, we made fun, because they were better than the typical recreational player or fish, but they played in a very simple way that we regulars could beat.

It's been years now since AIs are better than the best of humans. Is that the end of poker? No, on the contrary, what these tools have done is to give leverage to those who study poker with poker solvers.

2171  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is ChipMixer a probable HoneyPot? on: December 08, 2022, 03:43:16 PM
@Bill Gates, how about searching the forum first, so if this topic doesn't already exist, open it in a more appropriate board? A discussion about this theory already exists in the CM thread -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1935098.msg61349315#msg61349315

I belive the following is the best reason to believe it is an unfounded conspiracy,

So there's this random guy called FatManTerra who usually babbles about Luna but is now claiming that Chipmixer is a NSA honeypot
Mind debunking that news for us?

2172  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk forum vs OpenAI - ChatGPT on: December 08, 2022, 12:37:14 PM
Well, I already talked about this in the other thread.

This looks exactly like the average topic from a Newbie without Merit who writes a "guide" on how to earn Merit. I'd call this a "generic shitpost": it's all more or less true, but anyone with half a brain can come up with it on their own, so there's no point in reading it.

Sure, sure, I've seen worse posts than that written by newbies getting merits in the B&H section.

That IA doesn't stop improving and learning from experience, it doesn't get tired. I don't know if it's that you think it's going to stay at that level of quality or shitpost. No. It's going to get better.

The AI writes much better than the average user of the forum, and for me, without getting catastrophic, it will bring leverage. I think that in a few years AI tools will be used to write, in the same way that people use automatic translators to write in the English section of the forum.

2173  Economy / Reputation / Re: Buying of merits thread. If you have proof post it here and let them be tagged on: December 07, 2022, 06:07:34 AM
There have been so many cases of suspected merit abuse reported in various threads over the years that I'd bet it's well over 100.  I'm sure it would be more than that were it not for the fact that Theymos told the community not to make a big deal about it--but either way, if the community wants to start tagging merit abusers with enough evidence against them, I sure as hell would be fine with it and if the forum detectives start looking closely enough I've no doubt this thread would end up with 1000 pages within a year.

What theymos said is that if someone negative tagged someone else for things concerning merit other than buying merit they were not going to be in DT for long. I'm speaking from memory but I'm sure he said something like that. I imagine someone with a facility for finding quotes like LoyceV can provide the quote here.

So anything that isn't merit buying and selling, he doesn't see as a big deal.
2174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin Destroy Crap Altcoins? on: December 07, 2022, 05:55:24 AM
Considering that there are almost 22,000 alts, I would say that they destroy themselves. The focus should not be put on bitcoin. Bitcoin was first, and the success attracted many imitators who have come to create real garbage, if not scams. Some of those that existed in the past no longer exist, and many of those that we see now will not exist because they do not really bring anything more than speculation.
2175  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My concern of security when using casino houses. on: December 07, 2022, 04:59:11 AM
...It is agreeably more fun visiting a live casino center with physically present spin machines.
Most of the places in my locale where these games are played seem to be a hub for miscreants looking for likely victims and observing the cash flow of individuals using these spin machines. It is not too long ago we learnt of the stabbing that happened in front of a las vegas casino and the recount of the perpetrator.
...
Ever had such concerns for security when visiting live casino centers?  or do other reasons which prevent you from using these live casino centers? (please state it).

https://abcnews.go.com/US/stabbed-front-las-vegas-casino-victim-dead-police/story?id=91123497

No, but I go to the casino by car or cab. I'm not going to go to the casino walking down the street with a good amount of money, and I live in an area where there is not much crime, but you never know who might be lurking. Whenever someone has seen you handling large amounts of cash, precautions should be taken.

2176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Which Crypto would you like to see more in Online Casinos? on: December 07, 2022, 04:52:13 AM
I was on a crypto convention some years ago and met the guy behind the FUN token, he sold me this really good story on how they will revolutionize the casino industry once they launch fully. Now, god knows how many year later, I can still see them around, but instead of a "revolution" or "disruption", they are mostly just hovering around the industry.

Now, I'm aware that licensed casinos are tied to payment providers, and then they mostly use whichever currency that payment provider offers, but I personally would still love to see some exotic coins here and there. Something like WINk or Wagerr.

I invested in fun token when freebitco.in started to support it, but after a few months I sold it, from what I remember remaining break even or in slight losses, but compared to having left it in Bitcoin a clear loss. This was when the market was better than now, so I imagine that now it will be worse for those who invested in the token.

So, I wanted to ask the community in which coins would make the most sense to get implemented, which ones would you like to see more off?

Screw the tokens. I only want to bet with Bitcoin, although as I understand that many people also use alts, with the top 10, including a couple of stablecoins is enough.
2177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: under-age gamblers on: December 06, 2022, 04:32:21 AM
Just the other day i was predicting  some games in the world cup in a betshop cause my network was bad so i can't stake online  so i decided to go to the betshop to place the bet, then to my shock i was boy aged around 14 to 15 years who came in and gave the cashier a booking code to place the bet and give him the coupon and the cashier collected and i was like isn't this too little to be involved in such acts.

I don't know where you live but where I live that doesn't happen.

Since it is impossible to protect kids from being exposed to some gambling games then the parents need to take the initiative and explain to them why those games are not for minors and should only be practiced by them if they are adults, after all the money that is given by the parents to their kids has a completely different purpose, and as such kids should not be free to spend it in whatever they want as that money did not belonged to them in the first place.

I deny the premise. It is not impossible. If you live in a place where to enter a casino or bookmaker you are asked for an ID and your visit is registered, with large fines and even jail sentences for those who skip it, the possibility of a 14 year old entering is reduced to practically 0.

Education is fine, but if you live in a country where this is not controlled and minors are allowed to enter gambling sites everywhere, even if you educate your children, there is always a risk that they will end up in a gambling site at some point.
2178  Other / Meta / Re: AI writing messages on Bitcointalk.org on: December 06, 2022, 04:25:34 AM
That's like saying self-driving cars will put mechanics out of work... I doubt it. May need slightly different skillsets, and may actually need more people with those skillsets. They may call themselves data scientists or some shit like that, not unlike "automotive service specialist".

I don't know if this is the case or not. That's what I see it saying. But in a practical way I do think it can affect Bitcointalk.

Someone catastrophist might think that AIs could replace humans in the forum, and no, I don't think that will be the case in the short to medium term. But there have been revenue-generating blogs written with the help of IAs for some time now.

In the same way, I think that AI can bring leverage, in the same way that automatic translators bring leverage. Take for example The Cryptovator, formerly Coocryptovator. Either he suddenly improved his English a lot from one day to another, or today he uses an automatic translator and before he didn't, just like many on the forum.

The only reason I'm not using it is because it asked me for a phone number to register, but let's get down to the nitty-gritty. In response to a question from a newbie in the B&H section of the forum about what Bitcointalk is and what you can do here, the AI just clicks and in a second writes a much better summary than I could do and in less time.

What can this bring to the table? Leverage. If there are many who today have two accounts, it will be feasible to have 4, 5 or 6 accounts without getting tired. It's just a click and then review what the AI has written, making some tweaks, adapting it according to the case.

If it is to write in the gambling section, I believe that there will be no need for touch-ups, because the AI will do it better than the average user of the forum.

For the rest, what I say. I am curious to try it although I don't think I will do. To create a new account that publishes posts written with AI, obviously revised and retouched as needed.

We live in a time when professional translators are helped by machine translators, bloggers are helped by AI, so it will not be surprising if AI starts to be used in the forum. Not as a substitute for those of us who write, but as leverage.
2179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nigerian government set to tax bitcoin and crypto transactions on: December 05, 2022, 05:36:22 PM
In my place, unrealized gains aren't taxed; and they shouldn't. If I sell my bitcoin at $17k, which would have bought at $16k, then that should be trivial to tax, because I realized the gain. But if I never get back on fiat, then how exactly are they going to identify my gains?

Well, if you buy something in a store with Bitcoin, the store will be obliged to declare it, another thing is if with blockchain analysis they can know who you are. But the states want you to declare every sale to charge you capital gains in their case. If instead of $16k you bought at $1k they will want to tax you for almost everything you spend. Just think that the EU is planning to treat all transactions with KYC, but whether they could if it is approved in the end is another matter.

But I don't even know why I'm explaining this to you, since I think you know all about it. If what you are aiming at is an ideal world in which most transactions are done P2P and escape the state, as I think Satoshi conceived, I think that will never happen.

My question remains; how can there be an intermediary involved in peer-to-peer transactions? In the same way they don't know I made a purchase with cash, they don't know I made that purchase with bitcoin.

If you sell me something and I pay you in Bitcoin, there is no intermediary, but we must both legally declare the transaction. Another thing is that it is not done, as I think it is not done in many transactions today, but the states know that money and power is escaping them because of that and they have started to work on it.

2180  Other / Meta / Re: AI writing messages on Bitcointalk.org on: December 05, 2022, 05:28:12 PM
Here most of you seem to be downplaying the importance of this but I am seeing quite a bit about that AI lately and it seems to me that there is going to be a before and after about this. For starters it's going to put a lot of programmers out of work people are saying.

On the forum, maybe now you can discern the messages from an AI, but you have to think they keep learning and improving day by day.

I remember not too long ago, like 5 years ago, people were still downplaying the importance of machine translators. How many people used automatic translators 5 years ago in the forum and how many use them now? They still have bugs, but much less than 5 years ago and they are getting better and better every day.

I have seen posts from people testing AI on other forums and although to some extent it is discernible, in other cases it is not so clear and there is a lot of content.

Give this a few years and we could see an AI in the top ten merit earned ranking on bpip.org

Does anyone think this is not feasible? If it isn't today, it's only a matter of time before it is.

However, I don't think it's necessarily bad, as I see people say when they see what it's capable of doing, well no I'm not a Luddite. But I think we will have to be attentive to how this evolves, which will undoubtedly affect many areas of our lives, and the forum as well, if only because we talk about it.
