3061  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This D.C. bitcoin company raised $2.3 million to ... mine more bitcoins on: April 28, 2015, 04:13:19 PM

Well, they have rather ambitious plans:

Quote
BTCS Digital Currency Mining

We're rapidly scaling our low cost bitcoin mining efforts and believe this will provide revenue growth as we build our ecosystem. We've secured an 83,000 square foot facility, about 1.4 times the size of a regulation NFL football field, to expand our mining operations. With minimal improvements, the new facility is anticipated to handle over 10 megawatts (mw) of power and can potentially house up to 40,000 TH/s of mining hardware.

http://www.bitcoinshop.us/index.php#mining

They also provide few other services: shopping engine, storage (multisig wallet), ATMs and are building own 'Universal Digital Currency Platform'.

All looks promising, but I have doubts whether they'll hit ROI on mining operations, unless they'll be selling hashpower as cloud mining.

I don't see how they're not going to setup a cloudmining service. These investors need to know they'll get their money back + profits in almost no time, and I don't see how can they do that just by mining for themselves.

Also, they're trying to kill to many rabbits with one stone only. This seriously does not sound good, at last for me.

Really strange action on btc-e. Personally I don't think it was caused by bots or a "fun pump" (whatever that means).

I think it was simply genuine buying. You have to keep in mind that btc-e does not require all the AML/KYC-verification-BS that other exchanges do. So you can think of motives to buy there exclusively. For me the best explanation is a wealthy individual that needed to escape from financial oppression by his government (capital controls for example).

ya.ya.yo!

Exactly my thoughts... BTC-e is kind of a safe haven for some specific buyers

if they only had some better ways for depositing ..

If they use it, it's good enough... Smiley
3063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Richard Branson to Host Bitcoin Summit on Private Island on: April 28, 2015, 04:06:49 PM
I see this coming out with the same outcome as Satoshi Roundtable... I'm sure it was a great time for everyone that went, many great talks and connections were made and we're all fine with that, but nothing really palpable came out of it, which is a bit of a bummer for all us.

I'm also not sure how the moderators are related to Bitcoin... But oh well. I hope there's some footage or at least there's someone who puts out a list of topics that were discussed on the meeting.

Amazing that you found him, good for you! Now let him be Smiley

If it was "without you noticing", you wouldn't be posting this thread  Cheesy

He said with you noticing...not without him.  Tongue

That's why I put it between " " Smiley

People should not hand out trust for tiny trades like that. I am willing to guess a majority of the lenders and borrowers would stop loaning if the ratings stopped.

And that was probably OP's point

What are these guys supposed to be, more cloud mining stuff? Another web wallet? Whatever they're doing, someone has really hope they aren't some kind of ponzi/pyramid... Let's see where this goes. Not really convinced...
3069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.10.1 has been released on: April 28, 2015, 10:03:24 AM
So apparently this was a bug indeed: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=944369.0 Smiley Glad it was fixed
3070  Other / Off-topic / Re: Watching BTCe live trading and orderbook is like watching this... on: April 28, 2015, 09:58:38 AM
Bots have been known to populate BTC-e for quite some time... Probably just some folks squeezing in for short profits.
3071  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mtgox claims and Yubikey - help! on: April 28, 2015, 09:53:47 AM
I don't really think they're supporting and kind of 2FA tech... Your solution is probably sending the claim offline Sad
3072  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is bitcoin price sustainable with higher & higher electricity costs for mining? on: April 28, 2015, 09:51:17 AM
Miners might have to look at alternative energy. Maybe the big mining farms in the future will be run off huge solar pannels or wind turbines etc and generate their own electricity for free.

This... And I also think mining will always be sustainable without really depending on the price. We will eventually find a way to more efficient chips and after that we'll find ways to make the heat from the chips heat our homes, our ovens, furnaces, barbecues... And we'll eventually find a way to make chips that don't make heat haha Cheesy
3073  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-04-28] Reviewjournal: Nevada AG charges online poker operator who used BTC on: April 28, 2015, 09:35:50 AM
Really bad that these things happen. You can't be making good things with Bitcoin without being bothered by someone who wants a cut of whatever you're doing. Sad that folks who are so keen on Bitcoin (like those in LV) are making such an awful fuss about this...

Was this bug (if it was a bug) fixed in 0.10.1?

EDIT: apparently yes https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1039713.0
3075  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-04-26] Forex Minute: CoinHako Becomes the First Asian Exchange to... on: April 26, 2015, 08:39:15 PM
This is both amazing and bad. It's really cool that these guys have insurance because well, you never know. Even if you have amazing systems and security measures, bad stuff can happen. People can't always be monitoring and securing their systems...

It's also bad, because if an exchange needs to be insured, people aren't really storing their Bitcoins by themselves, and trusting on centralized services and online wallets... And if investors think their Bitcoins are safe because they're insured on an exchange wallet, they aren't really getting Bitcoin, and the fact that people see it as normal to trust their funds to a third party perpetuates wrong ideas about Bitcoin.

Anyways, let's see where this goes, I wish this and all exchanges success...
3076  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-04-23] businessinsider: One big reason Bitcoin is going nowhere on: April 26, 2015, 08:23:04 PM
So many talks about Bitcoin users being mainly male... But not many people doing things to attract female population. Everyone keeps talking about Bitcoin services, but I rarely see them directed to women! Just open something like a makeup store for Bitcoin... It won't attract a huge load of women, but it's a start.

3077  Economy / Auctions / Re: PlayMusic.com (since 1995) for sale. Auction starting at 50 BTC. on: April 26, 2015, 08:15:11 PM
CLOSED without bids. Auction finalized without any winner.

Start with a lower minimum bid and you likely will get action.

The domain is worth the minimum bid. The seller should contact google / spotify / grooveshark and other music providers to see if they would be interested in it, the chances are pretty slim someone on this forum is interested in starting a music streaming business.

This is honestly one of the highest quality domains on this forum, but this place is not the place to sell it. You should seriously go to some firms or Flippa/Sedo and give it a go there.

The thing with all these companies is the fact that none of them would buy the domain in Bitcoins... Smiley

BG4 those paper wallets look amazing!  Especially the UV one, it's really amazing. Any thread on those? How much would the final product be?
3079  Economy / Economics / Re: New rebublic Liberland to accept BTC as currency on: April 25, 2015, 06:49:02 PM
I've been reading about Liberland and seeing what comes out of there... Anyone already have a citizenship?

I think this is a great concept, but I'm not really sure if it will work... Since they have no military it's easy to attack them and reclaim the land.

Is it possible to request a password without having to change one's signature? I would like to try this extension, but I can't change my signature.
