2181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone wants to pay me 3.0 BTC to tattoo my wallets QR code on my neck! on: September 04, 2015, 08:51:13 PM
When you get a tattoo I don't think they care where you have it done as long as you're paying for it, after all the customer is always right Smiley

Not quite. But yes, there may be less professional tattoo parlors where you can probably get whatever you want if you pay (they'll probably be cheaper too).

I think people focus too much on getting the tattoo, and not enough on having the tattoo the rest of their lives.

Precisely!

You're thinking it's 3btc, a little pain, and then it will be over with.  But it won't be over.  It will be there next year, and 10 years from now, and every year until you die.  If it was 3btc to do something once, that would be different.  But this is 3btc for a 50-year contract.

Another very good point.

Also what will you do if Bitcoin doesn't succeed, this would be a painful reminder of the failure. On the other side, what if Bitcoin technology changes in the future, and QR codes become obsolete. Than you would have a useless QR code on the back of your neck.

And there's another excellent post...
2182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone wants to pay me 3.0 BTC to tattoo my wallets QR code on my neck! on: September 04, 2015, 06:32:28 PM
Why would somebody pay You to get a tattoo like that? Doesn't make sense to me.. :p what is in it for him?

Maybe having the tattooer tattoing a QR code from the guy paying the 3 coins without the OP knowing? Cheesy
2183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: block limit, high fees Vs centralization. on: September 04, 2015, 06:28:38 PM
based on the default fee settings. That being said, this doesn't seem like a bad idea at all...

So, a centralized source would declare a "default fee setting", and any time that source decided to change the default fee setting, there would be a new hard fork released that would change the blocksize calculation?

No. No need for a centralized source to have a default fee setting, Bitcoin Core has it. From there, the fee could be calculated as per OP's suggestion using a method similar to the fee estimation that already exists on the reference client. Or is this impossible to implement?

how about miners determine the fee by voting with the coinbase code thing!

they are already in control as to what fee they require to include your TX, so make them vote and take the mean or avg or wtv of the votes, and use that as the "target fee" and have the block size calculation revolve around that.

Booya we solved it, call the devs!  Cheesy lmao

That could work, but it would raise again the discussion about "miners already have too much control". And there would be a conflict of interests, I think, as miners profit on bigger fees...

Might as well post this here...

determining the block size by targeting a tx fee limit is the most fucktarded idea I've come accross with so far.

The future of fees is uncertain, and the possibility of having them raise quite a bit causes discussions on this matter... I'd classify ideas like this as extreme, on the limit. Only the future will tell us if these are "fucktarded" ideas Cheesy
2184  Economy / Lending / Re: Music Festival seeks investment of $2M (fiat) | ROI 200-300% (30-40% annualized) on: September 04, 2015, 06:12:20 PM
I'm also curious if the festival indeed went ahead. Also, it would be nice if a share system existed...

I'm not an expert on these things, but as far as I can see by the thread, if your business opportunity is legit it has nice promises. Ticket cost is cheap for what we usually see in the states. Unfortunately this will be a festival for "kandi kids" Cheesy Safer investment in Europe Wink Completely possible to have profit in the US though.

We chose not to premiere the festival in 2015 for several reasons. We are fully poised to move through with 2016 and look forward to discussing further in person.

As far as the nature of the festival is concerned, your "kandi kids" concern is valid, particularly with the current state of the market. We aim to differentiate ourselves by being extraordinarily centralized around the experience itself and by booking quality acts that draw the dedicated crowd, rather than the mainstream "EDM" acts that purely draw younger "kandi kids" that have yet to be cultured. That being said, we will be meticulously crafting a lineup that pulls the necessary amount of ticket sales without sacrificing the environment of the festival by saturating it with "kandi kids".

As far as the other posts concerning the legitimacy of the endeavor -
As I have mentioned before, we are seeking investment on multiple fronts. The goal is not to secure an investor based solely on the information given thus far. We look forward to a much more detailed conversation with any potential candidates. I assure you that the opportunity is far more legitimate than it seems with so little information available publicly, but I don't ask for your trust; only the opportunity to discuss further in a private setting.

Only seen this now after your bump...

Well, you sure know how to talk the right things Wink I'm not the guy you're looking for in what concerns capital, but I am really curious what comes out of this if you are legit and have the money on your hands. The ideals are there and the market needs something different (non mainstream EDM acts will always draw attention of their small but loyal crowd)

Good luck.
2185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: block limit, high fees Vs centralization. on: September 04, 2015, 05:52:07 PM
if we keep the 1MB limit fees go up but mining is easy even with a really crappy internet connection "more decentralized higher fee"
if we up the limit to 32MB fees remain unaffected (very low) but you need a reasonable internet connection to mine "more centralized lower fee"

what if we could use the block limit to make sure fees are always ~5cent

if the avg fee is <4 cents lower the the limit
if the avg fee is >6 cents up the limit

simple enough.

this way block limit will increase with demand and is sure to be as low as it can be to allow for free TX being processed but free TX will always take alot of time because most blocks are filled with TX that have a fee, and that's the reason poeple pay fee to make sure they get confirmed ASAP.

the balance between decentralized and low fees is always such that free TX are slow but possible

cool no?

Wouldn't that require a centralized service to determine how to calculate the current exchange rate?

I think adamstgBit was referring figuratively to these "cents". The calculation could be tied to an amount in Bitcoin, based on the default fee settings. That being said, this doesn't seem like a bad idea at all...
2186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone wants to pay me 3.0 BTC to tattoo my wallets QR code on my neck! on: September 04, 2015, 05:33:09 PM
I don't think it's a good idea... You should think wisely before getting it. What if you lose the private key to the address? Cheesy It would be really silly.

Also, the neck is a very visible part. Most tattooers will not tattoo someone without any tattoo on visible places like the neck, face or hands (for various reasons, the main one being people like that aren't really deep into the tattoo culture and don't really understand the implications of getting one).

Besides, 3 BTC is too low for such a thing Cheesy
2187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Starting a fund to create an underwater Bitcoin Artificial Reef! on: September 04, 2015, 05:29:42 PM
Although wierd, I guess it could work... Smiley Although it would only probably appeal to a minority, the divers on the beach... How are you certain it would reach headlines having this reef?

As for the giveaway, best to post it in the Games and rounds forum, maybe?
2188  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory / Bitcoin Core / SSD on: September 04, 2015, 05:26:54 PM
Figuring out how to store all the blockchain and database files on your large hard drive and not your C: drive is too complicated with Armory

Armory NEEDS a friendly wizard to assist people in moving the gigantic blockchain to their large hard drive.

Just create a shortcut to the Armory executable and use the following parameters:

--datadir=<drive letter>:\<your wallet folder> --satoshi-datadir=<drive letter>:\<database folder>

Precisely, that is well documented on Armory's website and there's even a video on it

Even though I regard myself as a power user, and have done this myself, I must say:  It is needlessly complicated.  This setting should be available in the settings panel, where people expect it to be.  Since it is not there, many will think it is not possible.

Of course it becomes more complicated due to the fact that it is another program's data we want to move around.  This may be one of the reasons that it is not on the settings panel Smiley

Yes, I guess it could be on the settings panel. But making a wizard would be redirecting resources to somewhere not so useful I think. There are already enough wizards, such as the backup wizard, with everything very well explained... Cheesy
2189  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Has an Armory wallet ever been hacked and how can it be protected against if yes on: September 04, 2015, 05:21:29 PM
Armory has been hacked as much as other reputable wallets... In all situations, the problems were between the keyboard and the chair, not between the monitor and the keyboard Wink
2190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Edeka "A big largest German supermarket corporation" accepts bitcoin on: September 04, 2015, 05:14:45 PM
This is amazing news!! Maybe some major supermarkets in Europe can take this as an example...
2191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happened to the guy that got permanent brain damage from mining a few years on: September 04, 2015, 01:50:48 PM
This was surprising, never read about this...  Also curious about what he's up to now. Probably mining Bitcoin again Cheesy

Also very curious to know what kind of temperatures his room was in...
2192  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTB] One Plus Two Invite on: September 04, 2015, 01:33:43 PM
With a simple search you find this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1167143.0
Thanks yeah i saw it but he does not respond and invites only last 24 hours.  Tongue

Wait for it maybe it does worth. The phone has good performance. Let's wait maybe someone else has invites.

Ah, fck the invite. I just found this page.

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Heres-where-to-buy-the-OnePlus-2-without-an-invite_id72682

There are particular conditions if you buy on such sites... Search about it and see if it is worthwhile for you.

2194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's welcome the stress test on: September 04, 2015, 01:09:57 PM
Your theory seems interesting, but in practice that might not happen, as we've seen from previous stress tests. Markets move in strange ways... And someone might feel like cashing out on top of the spammer.

And I don't really see people accepting a fee similar to fiat banks, that would definitely make me unattracted by Bitcoin...

That being said, I hope there will be no stress test, even if it has the positive implications you mentioned. As we could see from previous tests, this will only clog up the small 1MB blocks (or these transactions simply won't be mined, making the test irrelevant) and they already proved the point.
2195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many of you feel ashamed for recommending Bitcoin to family & friends? on: September 04, 2015, 01:03:39 PM
I've recommended Bitcoin to quite a few people but most don't grasp the concept, disregard it or simply don't want to have anything to do with it, and noone of them has actually bought any coins... I don't feel ashamed of recommending Bitcoin. I would feel ashamed of recommending them a bank... No harm in recommending anyone a way to store their own money safely! And the OP shouldn't feel bad either, he recommended what he think it was best and the people accepted the risk of buying Bitcoin.
2196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Central Banks Nervous as Alternative Currency with David Bowie’s Face Goes Viral on: September 03, 2015, 10:31:23 PM
Didn't know there was such an "altcoin" market on Britain... I agree this will only make people look at Bitcoin in a different, better way Smiley

I wonder how much would people use Banksy's "currency" if he had dropped all those bills he had on Britain... Cheesy
2197  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory / Bitcoin Core / SSD on: September 03, 2015, 08:25:01 PM
I don't have an SSD Cheesy

It's not that hard to change such a setting. Besides, I don't see it being implemented soon, if ever. Armory is an advanced client and this change doesn't require much fiddling with the software... So I think that users who come to Armory are knowledgeable enough on how to set it up properly (and developers think this too).
2198  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S5 Stat pages shows 2 blocks found-How to know if I did or not before shutdown on: September 03, 2015, 08:06:52 PM
You should post this on Mining Support for more visibility.
2199  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Canada Recognise Bitcoin Same Like Dollar on: September 03, 2015, 08:02:01 PM
I'm not sure this is such a good idea. As I've been saying, the best thing is governments distancing themselves from Bitcoin. Negative reactions to cryptocurrencies by governments are everywhere and I'm frightened that positive reactions might lead to over-regulation/desire to control the currency. We are all seeing what BitLicense is causing... Canada might go the same way.
2200  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase Decides Not to Refund Customers in Double Billing Glitch on: September 03, 2015, 07:57:56 PM
I don't see any evil in them refunding in Bitcoin (although that's probably not the best "business ethics"). No issues with refunds using Bitcoin...
