Never heard of that site. Maybe you'll have better luck on Service Discussions
2242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If using cryptocurrencies become a crime, will you be a criminal? on: August 24, 2015, 01:36:46 PM
If having money becomes a crime, then unfortunately there won't be enough prisons for everyone guilty of committing such a crime.
2243  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Tutorial: Compiling Armory and getting it onto an offline computer on: August 24, 2015, 12:53:05 PM
Well, I guess we've got a pretty interesting topic going on here. To start off my post I'd like to say I don't consider myself an expert user. I'd also like to say that I'm using Armory as my offline/cold storage, after a period of testing with very small quantities of Bitcoin and getting used to different wallets in offline mode, I found Armory very useful and it's the one I feel better with.

That being said, back on topic. This has actually made me see the USB issue in a different way. For example, I wasn't aware of the illusion created by USB SD card readers Wink As I wasn't aware of the fact that some laptop readers are connected via USB too.

I know there is a high improbability of me or anyone else (especially people with low amounts of Bitcoin) to be targeted by such hardware attacks. But I do not use USB in my offline machine (Raspberry Pi) just in case. I now also realize my system may be compromised, as I flashed Raspbian on my SD using my laptop's SD reader.

Here's a suggestion to the OP: drop the SD's and the USB's on your offline system and use a webcam (easy way) or the audio interface (hard way). I use a webcam in my Raspberry setup to send transactions to the online computer. For your offline linux machine, I'd recommend qtQR, easy to use and powerful. I've tried the audio interface previously with another Bitcoin client, but I failed to set it up and eventually gave up on the idea.

My system may have flaws, but I think the ease of use of what I have is pretty well balanced with the security of the system (which I think it is secure enough)

The issue with presenting SD to our users as a better alternative to USB is how the SD card itself is plugged into your PC. Most SD readers for PC are SD to USB adapters, and even some laptop built-in SD readers are hardware USB wrappers. In this situation, you are not getting extra security, rather you are getting the illusion of better security, which is much worse. Our expert users are aware of the intricacies of their hardware stack and what to expect from them.

I have another question about this actually. The malware has to be installed on the device in first place. So the question is, do SD cards themselves actually have the same capability as USB devices for malware installations in the first place? (If not, even if on the computer the SD card connects through the USB interface, wouldn't I still be safer with an SD card?)

As far as I understood SD's are more secure, as they do not rely on the HID class (correct me if I'm wrong), which is a vector used for attacks. And no, SD connecting through the USB only gives and illusion of safety.
2244  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: iOS Bread Wallet on: August 24, 2015, 12:09:57 PM
Is there any way to get the private key on breadwallet and import it into Bitcoin-qt

No. It's not a goal of the dev to have a mobile client that can do such.

If you really need the private key you have to import your breadwallet seed on MultiBit HD and then dump the key. Keep in mind that after importing the seed elsewhere you should consider it compromised and create a new one on breadwallet. Don't forget to send your funds elsewhere before creating a new seed.

Also, there's an official topic for breadwallet, you'd probably want to go there if you want an answer from the dev, he's probably paying attention to that thread mostly Smiley

qtQR is a nice option if it works on openSUSE Smiley At least it seems to be avaliable
2246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if the Government loves cryptocurrencies To pay for their spies and ....... on: August 24, 2015, 11:50:30 AM
Same old story of if you can't beat them, join them. The governments obviously have to profit with cryptocurrencies somehow (they have to profit with everything that exists on the face of the earth...).

The US government has auctioned seized coins. One way to profit Smiley As for what you say, who knows? Might be true.
2247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is big problem in using of bitcoin on: August 24, 2015, 11:48:40 AM
The biggest problem is we still don't have many merchants accepting it Smiley Other than that, it's going pretty good.
2248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: who care ? with bitcoin XT on: August 24, 2015, 11:46:59 AM
I don't really understand why did they had to design a new currency. This is causing a lot of trouble in the community.

However, only one coin will win I seriously hope is isn't XT...

It's questionable to consider XT a new currency. It's exactly the same Bitcoin, but with another set of rules. It's just a proposal for what people think that might improve the network. It uses the same blockchain, the same algo, the same everything we all know from Bitcoin. So I don't think it fits a new currency.

To consider XT a new currency, we would have to consider Bitcoin as a "new Bitcoin" each time a BIP (Bitcoin Improvement Proposal) was introduced.
2249  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How does XT influence physical bitcoins? on: August 23, 2015, 12:40:44 AM
It doesn't. The coins you have there will remain after the fork, if there is one. They will also "survive" any fork, obviously, as the blockchain is still the same.
2250  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos. the reason ?? on: August 23, 2015, 12:32:32 AM
What's the problem here? He moved an altcoin discussion thread to altcoin discussion board.

The issue is the questionability of claiming that XT is an altcoin, as running XT gives access to exactly the same network as using Core (the fork cannot be triggered right now even if it had 100% network support). The blockchain is the same, the difference is a set of rules that are triggered in certain conditions.

In its own turn, the fork code on XT can (questionably) be an improvement (or not) to Bitcoin, and not a spinoff/fork by itself.
2251  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos. the reason ?? on: August 23, 2015, 12:03:21 AM
The reason is theymos considers XT to departure from the original ideals of the Bitcoin project, thus being an altcoin. This has already been discussed. Here's a statement from theymos regarding the issue.
2252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Anyone know how to recover bitcoin core from android download mode? on: August 22, 2015, 11:12:24 PM
First and foremost if your phone fell in the water, clean it, dry it, and put in rice for a few hours before attempting anything. And then you can follow what other users have very well written: ADB via Download Mode

Maybe a guide like this?
2253  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [HOWTO] Generating temporary BTC addresses for user deposits? on: August 22, 2015, 11:07:41 PM
Are you trying to run a website for selling goods or similar? Electrum can integrate with a website to do such a thing: generate an address for each payment. There are also wordpress plugins that work the same way, but you have to give those plugins your xpub key.

Otherwise I'm not sure how to handle what you want automatically. As far as I've read, Bitcoin Core is not a good start for a service like this.

Hope this can guide you further in your research...

Your answer helped me a lot on this one, Thanks!

I found out there is an API on Coinbase which allows to create, access BTC accounts and transfer it's funds.

More information on https://developers.coinbase.com/api/v2

But using an external API raises a new set of problems: the addresses aren't in your control, they're from a Coinbase wallet. On the upside it's probably easier to implement (? not sure, I never really used such a thing).

2255  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would a Core/XT Hard Fork be bad if both live on? on: August 22, 2015, 08:41:52 PM
A proportion of the chain with the larger hashrate could be employed to 51% the chain with the smaller hashrate. I'm not sure anything could be done to prevent that.

Exactly, not to mention the fact that two Bitcoins would be the worse outcome, confusing users and making people escape from Bitcoin because it would be confusing.

There would be two "Bitcoins" serving the same purpose which would be redundant and a complete chaos/mess/deorganization. People could end up paying others accepting the "Core" chain with "XT" coins.

Because of that, the probability of the smaller fork surviving is really low. It's like someone disconnecting their internet because they don't agree where the line was placed on the street.

2257  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: August 22, 2015, 07:57:36 PM
I'm curious - how did he know that mtgox userid 5125 is Zhou Tong?  Is there a list somewhere that matches users to the userids?  I've been trying to track down another thief and I know their gox userid from the leaked data but I haven't seen a list of names.  Did I miss it?

Also curious about this. Probably some by mathing balances and trasnactions? or maybe this information became public with the Mt Gox investigation?

2259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Private Key vs Exchange (Coinbase, Circle, etc) on: August 22, 2015, 04:41:07 PM
To start off my post, if you don't have the private key, the keys aren't yours.

That being said, the security issue lies in the fact that you don't truly know if an exchange has your coins offline. As we saw from the Mt Gox incident, coins were all online at some point, prone to be stolen by a hacker (which apparently did happen, at some time in Mt Gox's history), so there's your risk. As we know, someone with resources and time can do pretty much anything on the internet.

Even if your coins are offline, you have to trust someone from the exchange isn't simply going to run off with them.

I'd say the risk of a Mt Gox-like event isn't high, but it's not impossible and there doesn't need to be another Mt Gox-like fiasco for your coins to be stolen.

The system will never evolve in the direction of banks. The objective of the system is the exact opposite, and a bank is definitely not safe or "bulletproof".

I hope my post is clear and a valid answer to your question, at at least to part of your question.
