Do admins usually go through reports first or do they just go to a user profile and delete everything through there? Still reporting all I can...

These guys keep making almost consecutive posts on the same thread... Reported something like 20 or 30 posts!

Was about to post this, another spammer... reporting everything I can
2384  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken BTC Exchange: Farewell New York on: August 09, 2015, 02:57:42 PM
This was to be expected. Many companies will just probably flee NY to avoid issues. Despite this, BitStamp is apparently applying for a license.

Why dont Kraken just get the Bitlicense instead of whining?
I mean a exhange of their size should have a whole army of law specialist to sort out these issues in a short time.

I don't really see this as just whining. As said before, obtaining this license involves high costs that exchange operators are not prepared to face. Not counting the law specialists fees...

It's good that not every company applies for the license. We can't just bend to their will and to their strict regulation. People leaving NY serves a protest.
2385  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is crashing. Why? :( on: August 08, 2015, 11:42:31 PM
Or too much people selling... Right!

But why? Why now and why this huge crash so suddenly?

There aren't too many people selling... This was just a drop of water in the glass.
2386  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is crashing. Why? :( on: August 08, 2015, 11:17:37 PM
Because you're not buying coins Grin

Did not realize that the Defcon presentation everyone is talking about on twitter had to do with brainwallet... They really got shamed if they closed down! I guess by this time many brainwallets have been hacked...
2388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can we address wallet security on mobile devices? on: August 08, 2015, 05:52:14 PM
You can use iOS, as it is a walled garden, as people say, and it is secure enough for small quantities. You can also use an unrooted Android... same thing, secure enough for small quantities. One can also argue that a rooted Android and an advanced user is a secure combination (something more questionable).

I think current mobile OS's have enough security for mobile wallets. They're made to have just some change, after all. We can address problems by having penetration testing on software releases and continuous support/updates/teams making bug fixes... which we already have.

Don't forget most problems are between the keyboard and the chair, not the keyboard and the monitor Wink

Good points. I guess the ultimate answer really is just don't store large amounts of money on your mobile for long periods of time. Plan your spending and only transfer the amounts you need right now to your mobile wallet. It makes sense plus it has the added benefit of teaching people to plan their purchasing.

Exactly! We will always have this issue, on any kind of software, even if it is proven to be really secure... It might not be. Or it might be, and we'll never really know it for sure Smiley
2389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Earn bitcoin by sharing your bandwidth on: August 08, 2015, 05:47:53 PM
This seems like a pretty nice idea. The thing is, they're competing with FON...

I read this and it is not something I would like I could do. It turns out you need to have to be connected to their own WiFi Network:
"Every person that buys internet using Bitcoin connects to a BitMesh Wi-Fi connection close to them, which is provided by a client and functions by using the BitMesh app."
I don't think It will be available in many places. It is more like a test project which probably will never be developed at a larger scale.

I believe it doesn't mean that you need to connect to their Wi-Fi in order to earn bitcoins from them. It means that they want to establish a network of wifis around the world that can be used by other persons. Those persons pay in bitcoins and they buy "internets". Whatever that is. Roll Eyes

That means you can only earn money when someone buys and uses your wifi then. Which, for the most persons, would mean you earn never. I mean how far is your wifi reaching? And how many people in that circle would know this project and would pay?

It can actually be deployed in many places. I don't know how do they plan to distribute their product, but they can distribute it a bit like a DDWRT firmware, and/or in routers of their own.

It's not hard to catch private wifi signal on the streets. Many routers are overpowered for certain houses and there are small houses, on the level of the street. One can even catch signal from buildings on the street, or even neighbours can catch the other neighbour's signal... This is a very useful service, no doubt about that. They're just competing with people much bigger than them as I've said before.

I like the idea a lot. I have always though that we people use too many wifis (and pay for them) when we could just share and pay less.

However, there could be security issues with this too, perhaps hackers doing their thing with that bandwith...

A shared cost wifi is a nice idea. But many people wouldn't certainly use that for their everyday usage, so that issue would remain unsolved. I know I wouldn't...

Other problem it would solve is too many connection overlapping each other (on my house, if I scan nearby networks on my computer, I get at least 15 networks, overlapping is a real issue). I don't see that being solved soon either, unless 5Ghz signals become more mainstream.

And yes, security would be a huge issue... People would just hop on different networks for scamming.
2390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Full Node Survey (Please Help - Takes a Second) on: August 08, 2015, 05:37:49 PM
I was going to select it's inconvenient... But one can run a node on a VPS or stored away in a drawer nowadays, so that's not a problem. Then I was going to select that syncing takes time... Ended up not doing that too, the blockchain is big and it simply takes time because... My hardware isn't that much of a deal Cheesy Ended up selecting other reasons... The "other reasons" are the simple fact I did not bother to search for a good VPS service to host a node of mine yet, and I don't really want to pay monthly for a VPS just to host a node.

That being said, I have a raspberry, and I'm thinking of retiring a disk I have on a laptop to trade it for an SSD... If I do that, I'll just probably hook up the disk to an external enclosure, connect it to my raspberry and run a node from there Smiley

2392  Other / Off-topic / Re: Firefox users, update now, file stealing exploit found on: August 08, 2015, 05:25:57 PM
I've read this before and immediately pictured my empty wallet files on my desktop being stolen Cheesy Anyways, I'm on Chrome. But I'm also worried as it might have the same or a similar exploit. I hope it is discovered if it's there...

Good thing they promptly corrected the issue after being discovered.
2393  Economy / Speculation / Re: Should I consider bitcoin as a means to store money, how much can I lose? on: August 08, 2015, 12:34:14 PM
Bitcoin has you covered in storing money. As for margins you should expect to lose everything. Do not put more in than you can afford to lose.

No one knows the price tomorrow. It can go to 0 or 99999. As for conversion, you can use one of the many exchanges out there, Mycelium local trader or even localbitcoins Smiley
2394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much btc should a person have in a economic collapse situation? on: August 07, 2015, 10:32:33 PM
The answer on this thread is easy. You should have the most you can. The more, the merrier! In a crisis, too much is not enough...

Makes sense.

If you just transfer some, the rest will go to a change address (which can be made automatically or can be one of your choice).

Is that address a part of the paper wallet backup I generated a long time ago? Or do I need a new paper wallet whenever large transactions take place?

are you displaying change addresses in the wallet's property window?

Indeed, change addresses do seem to be the issue here.

Yes, any change address you may have are part of the wallet backup. It's a normal address in a wallet... You just don't see them unless you select to see them Smiley Similar thing on Bitcoin Core.
2398  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: iOS Bread Wallet on: August 07, 2015, 04:28:48 PM
Oh, right, it's scaled up Smiley Anyways, I bet its in the works iPhone 6 support... If I'm not mistaken, Apple has many tools that make it easy to scale up apps.

100% agreed. Just searched to see if there was some way to switch from bits to BTC units. Why not give users a choice? An app that pushes its own beliefs is fine, as long as it only makes it the default but still provides choice to those who disagree. I otherwise love the app, but just don't feel comfortable using it if there is no option to have the value in BTC.

In this particular instance it's better to have a single standard. It's important for the community to move together to bits. People who don't switch hold back adoption. That combined with the fact that adding more configurable options makes the app more confusing is why we haven't done it. The reason BTC is more comfortable is because most others are using it still, so to break that momentum means doing something that's initially less comfortable. People need encouragement, so that's what we're providing by making an app that people love, but requires switching to bits. It's a short term inconvenience for a greater long term benefit.

I totally agree with this decision. It is stupid 'talking' and trading in BTC! Bits is so much more logic and easier to understand; and future-proof.

I totally love this app, i am a huge fan.

Things i would like to see implemented in the app:

-iPhone6 and 6+ support
-Multi-sig addresses support

Thanks for the awesome work voisine.

Although I am not a big fan of Bits, and took quite a bit to get used to them, I understand why they're important in adoption. Much more comfortable saying something like 1000 Bits than something like 0.001 BTC.

iPhone 6 not supported? How come, does the app appear smaller or something? I'm still on a 5, so not sure. As for multisig, that falls in what voisine has been saying: he wants to keep the app simple. I don't see that being implemented.

To finish my post, I think it would be better to focus our discussions on the main topic. There's no need to have two topics with different discussions about the same thing Smiley

Yes, in iphone6 and 6+ the app is zoomed/stretched.

But voisine would implement multi-sig in a way (revolutionary way) that becomes easier and friendly to most users. This app is like that, revolutionary.
Multi-sig is the safest way to store bitcoins.

Oh well... Who knows? We have a very skilled dev Smiley
2399  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [ANN] breadwallet, first bitcoin network client for iOS, first BIP32 SPV client on: August 07, 2015, 04:26:43 PM
Just wanted to give some feedback for this last update. The notification center widget is just amazing! Pretty handy and works perfectly, thank you.

+1 ... Widget is really awesome!

BTW: How is lock-screen notification suppose to look like?

I only get badge number on top of breadwallet icon even though "Show on Lock Screen" is turned on. I never get any breadwallet message on lock screen.

Can someone make a screenshot? Any idea what am i missing?

I remember seeing something related to notifications for receiving funds on a previous update, but the behavior I've seen in every iOS device is just a badge, really, so I think it's default. Since my online wallet has only spare change all the time (I don't use it that much), I never really bothered, but since we're talking about that, it would be nice to know more about it. I also have the same behavior as you, everything on, but only a badge on the app appears.
2400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will we hard fork again for another serious bug? on: August 06, 2015, 10:15:53 PM
If a flaw in the software required a hard fork, there will be a hard fork. As said before, I don't think consensus was needed to fix a bug that violates something so basic in Bitcoin. If something similar ever happens, there will be a fork straight away.
