3401  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 15% discount on Trezor hardware wallets on: October 29, 2022, 06:54:47 PM
Some of us here don't consider the "secure element" an improvement but just the opposite.  Sure in theory SECURE sounds great, but that comes with closed source and users having to trust what is going on inside the element all beyond our scrutiny.  That is a pass for me anyway as far as my preference!!
I was talking about secure element that is in development by Trezor with their project Tropic Square, and that is going to be most open source secure element so far, but I hope others will follow.
I do agree with you that closed source wallets are basically black box and nobody knows what is happening inside, but same thing is already used everywhere in banking, smartphones, etc. so we don't have anything better.

Personally, I believe even 200€ or more for a Bitcoin-only device (less maintenance of coins, smaller codebase, less potential for bugs...) can be worth it.
How about paying 10 times less and you still have functional open source Bitcoin signing device?  Read more about it soon Wink
For me 200€ is a lot of money for currently available hardware wallets, except maybe Passport, but that is borderline price, I would certainly buy it again for presale offered price.

Unfortunately, people from financially weaker countries can't afford a lot of things, but by giving up some convenience, they can still use Bitcoin very securely for cheap.
There might be solution for them, but they should keep their old mobile phones and not throw it away in garbage.
ESP32 devices are very cheap and now it's possible to make Bitcoin airgapped signing device for dirt cheap.
3402  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: PIN codes and Hardware Wallets on: October 29, 2022, 06:47:44 PM
Wouldn't be too much work for you to extend  a bit more your research by adding  the description of GUI used by different HWs to enter PIN code?. Recently the firmware of ledger nano s+ has  been elevated to 1.0.4 and the most noticeable change was the new GUI to enter PIN  code.  I  think the new GUI in  s+ is more convenient than it was before upgrade.
Hi satscraper.
I really don't have time to do this for all hardware wallets and I don't personally own all devices to know about this, but people can write about that in this and I will consider updating something.
My idea was to collect basic information how PIN code function in this devices, that is not related with GUI on specific devices that can change all the time.
I think that wallets like Passport, Colcard and maybe Keystone have one of the best GUI's for entering PIN codes and it's much easier to enter PIN when you have numbers and real buttons.
3403  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re:
Wallets supporting Taproot on: October 29, 2022, 06:40:04 PM
Just discovered a new wallet [MyCitadel] while I was watching a video [14:58 - 15:43] on Bitcoin Magazine's channel... It's "open-source" and they're claiming to be the "first wallet that's allowing taproot multisig and locktime-based spending conditions".
Note: My post shouldn't be counted as a vouch!
Thank you for making a post about this SFR10, I updated the list with new MyCitadel wallet.
This is the first time I heard about this wallet, and I didn't have time to test how it works, but good thing this is open source wallet and it supports Taproot addresses.
I downloaded wallet now, but I see it is owned by swiss company Pandora Prime Sarl, so I am not sure how good that is.
3404  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can you verify the randomness that's coming from a hardware? on: October 29, 2022, 06:24:05 PM
what's wrong with using RDRAND or RDSEED? i know there's people that have a conspiracy theory that those are having a backdoor but it's intel. come on! bonus points is, if you have a modern computer, you're good to go.
YOu are digging up moths old topic from death and than you are speaking nonsense like this  Roll Eyes
It's no conspiracy theories, it's well know fact that Intel has hidden operating system inside that is called Intel Management (AMD has it's own version) and they are sending information all the time.
Only way I know that people managed to mitigate this threat is with flashing open source firmware Coreboot, but you need to use second device for that, and it's not exactly newbie friendly procedure.
Even if we disregard that, bottom line is that this is not giving true random results.

Intel did not disclose their knowledge of these vulnerabilities with the public and / or release fixes, until security researchers discovered them. There is no way of knowing for sure if or who they shared these vulnerabilities with or if they're even built-in by design. But I wouldn't put too much trust in Intel chips when it comes to having really good hardware entropy.
Funny thing about Spectre and Meltdown is that fixes slow down processors speed considerably, so Intel gave more reason for people to buy new chips that didn't have much better speed initially Wink
3405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodlonaut Trial on: October 28, 2022, 08:06:17 PM
It's still banned, he's just evading the ban-- not like he complies with any other rules...
Now it's possible Elon Musk might get him banned as a new twatter owner, or maybe they will join forces in new shitcoin business endeavor Wink

I somewhat doubt Wright is going to sue lopp-- he's still got to come up with some lie he can tell his attornies to get them to file the paperwork and he'd have a really hard time.  He threatens it as a pure intimidation move.  Actually doing it would be pretty stupid.
It's possible this is one more of his stunts, but I see Jameson Lopp is still talking with Faketoshi and talking about courts.
Oh and Lopp just asked ElonMusk to unban @geoffgolberg account, so we have first public requests coming.

3406  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: AirGap wallet- Self custody made simple and secure - Protect your crypto offline on: October 28, 2022, 07:52:21 PM
That's exactly what it is.
Than it's much better to call it with it's real name instead of inventing something like Social recovery feature.
It is also important for compatibility to say if your Secret Shamir Scheme is compatible with one that is available in other hardware wallets like Trezor Model T and Keystone wallet.

Having only the seed phrase is a single point of failure. Introducing a mechanism to recover the wallet even if you lose the seed phrase eliminates this
Yes it is, unless you add multiple passphrases, but we are talking about improving something and removing single point of failure, that was not accomplished with SSS because one guy controls everything.

In the future, we will be implementing something more standardized like SSKR and Seed XOR.
That is better, but I don't know who currently uses this except maybe Coldcard.
3407  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchange platform with lowest fees on: October 28, 2022, 07:38:19 PM
I was wondering what exchange platform charges the lowest fees for conversions from Bitcoin to Euro.
I was also wondering what exchange platform charges the lowest fees for conversions from Tether to Euro.
You are not paying high fees in centralized exchanges if you are maker for exchanging coins to fiat currencies and vice versa, but I don't think there is real Euro currency in all exchanges.
Problem is that you have to pass KYC verification for all this exchanges, and I prefer doing P2P trading and using Bisq decentralized exchange, maybe it's not lowest fees, but risk is much lower and you don't have to verify anywhere.
It's also important to check how much fees centralized exchange charges for withdrawing Euro and Bitcoin, but you can also check out BestChange.com to find best rates for BTC/EUR and USDT/EUR.
One more useful thing is checking withdrawal fees on exchanges:
https://withdrawalfees.com/
https://www.cryptofeesaver.com/exchanges/fees/coins/euro

Here is one example of exchanging 1 Bitcoin to Euro:
https://www.cryptofeesaver.com/exchanges/search/btc-to-eur

PS
I don't know how accurate this information is, and I am not affiliated with any of this websites posted above.
3408  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Chip Mixer Problems on: October 28, 2022, 07:28:12 PM
Does that answer your question?
Im posting here because there may be other users that fall into the same trap I did.
Dude it's problem on your end, it could be your computer being infected or something else, and you are again asking should you try it again, sorry but that doesn't sound like a statement from intelligent person.
You didn't answer any of my question how you heard about Chipmixer website and did you search it using google browser, so you are not really helping anyone falling in same trap.
If you are using WiNd0ws OS on your computer it's possible that you have some keylogger or other type of malware, so format and install linux os from scratch if you want to be more secure.
3409  Economy / Reputation / Re: Recognition and Challenge on: October 28, 2022, 05:38:49 PM
What can I do to be able to contribute to the forum?
There are no rules about contribution, just do what you do best and try to provide some value in forum.
Easiest way is by reporting spam post, plagiarism, but some people are good artists or designers, others are good in managing things, etc.
If you are more technical oriented you can contribute there, or you can just help other people when they ask some information.
3410  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Chip Mixer Problems on: October 28, 2022, 04:47:35 PM
I am a victim of phishing. I lost .01 on chipmixer.xyz
I don't know how you found that website and how you heard about Chipmixer but you should never search mixing terms in google search because it gives many scam phishing website results.
It's much harder to get scammed with onion website but it can still happen if you are not careful and you don't verify address on official Chipmixer website.
Can anyone tell me what happened? I lost two deposits and it makes me sick to be throwing money away. I don't want to try a third time.
Can anyone tell me what happened? I lost two deposits and it makes me sick to be throwing money away. I don't want to try a third time
Why did you send coins the second time after you lost them the first time?

I am very confident I had the correct site (at least when I started). Trust me, I got scammed once, I wasn't going go to an incorrect site again! I am confident when I reloaded and restored session that I got the same incorrect wallet address.
You got fooled before with hyz website so your trust level has gone down a lot after that.
I am not going to trust anyone expertise online, especially if that guy recently registered in forum, but there was few cases before when attackers managed to hijack website and you wouldn't notice much difference when using it.
3411  Economy / Reputation / Re: I wish I could contact jolly good on: October 28, 2022, 02:44:58 PM
It should be fare enough for JollyGood to allow my messages go through. It's eight months and counting and after few months of chat with him on the negative trust I got I was blocked and can't send a message across to him.
Good luck with trying to talk with him Roll Eyes
I am not going to judge your post history and I guess it could be better, but for me this is one more case of him abusing trust system.
I would understand if he gave you neutral feedback and ignored you, and I am not exactly sure what he is trying to achieve with this behavior, but he is not helping the forum at all.

I do not agree with users being tagged for their posting because they're in a signature campaign. I notice a bunch of neutrals from applicants, and I check they're trust to see that they're tagged as spammers. I think that is sufficient enough and a decent manager will take a look and make a decision based on their recent post history.
@OP I'll sent a pm to Jolly and ask him to take a look here, but that doesn't guarantee he will.
TrollyBad is borderline crazy with giving negative feedback like Halloween candies, and somebody finally needs to stop him and remove him from Default Trust.
Question is why are most other DT members still quiet and they are not reacting about this repeated behavior?!
If something happens multiple times than it's abuse, and people get arrested for that in real life.

Are you seeing this? And you still trust this guy?!
Something is seriously wrong here, and this is turning into Default Troll system.

3412  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: ShopinBit.com - Europe's biggest Bitcoin Store - 321.000+ Products on: October 28, 2022, 02:35:02 PM
Today we have a special offer for you!

If you pay with Bitcoin or Monero you can get the new Google Pixel 7 or 7 Pro with 128GB at 3% off and therefore for the best available price (at least the best price in Germany & most of the EU).

Pixel 7: https://shopinbit.com/detail/index/sArticle/1024233
Pixel 7 Pro: https://shopinbit.com/detail/index/sArticle/1024234

This is the first offer that we will present you while we are working slowly towards our first halving (our 4th Birthday).  Cheesy
That is a very good deal for Pixel 7 phones, especially if you live in a country that don't have official google store that sells this devices, but why do you only have boring Obsidian color in stock, and not Snow and Lemongrass version Smiley?
I still that Pixel 7 Pro is overpriced, and it's not worth to pay so much more for not that much benefits compared to regular Pixel 7.
There is hydrogel screen protector in your shop, so best to buy this together, and you could also add some cool cases in future for better protection.

3413  Other / Meta / Re: Question About Report to moderator on: October 28, 2022, 02:22:41 PM
how to look the history report?,
If you want to contribute forum and make it better than just keep reporting bad posts and you will soon see your reports in this page:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=reportlist;mine

if the moderator moves the topic, whatever the reporter did (if not in accordance with the board) will mark as good?
Yes in this case it will be market as good report, but sometimes it gets unhandled and nothing happens, so it all depends from moderators.
I just checked my reported post accuracy and it is around 97% but I don't really care about this stats, and I don't check history of reported post unless there is something suspicious.
3414  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some coins or a hardware wallet? on: October 28, 2022, 02:09:16 PM
Ratimov originally created this list of hardware wallets, but it's been years since his original post and some of these wallets are no longer available or have been discontinued by their manufacturers. I've taken the liberty of translating his list, putting together my own updated version here: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici, and I will continue to update this list as new hardware wallets are released.
Since  you are speaking about that nice list fork, I think you need to update last few hardware wallets I found and posted in that topic, Ice wallet, Citadel, PirateChain Wallet, and one more you wrote about Ellipal Titan Mini.
I am not suggesting purchasing any of this wallets, but I am just reminding you that you need to update and refresh this list, maybe even prices changed for some devices like Trezor.

If we're talking about a small amount of bitcoin, there's really nothing wrong with a mobile wallet. It's mostly for learning purposes in the first place. And there's a reason why I mentioned that OP should help gramps correctly setup the wallet.
It's nothing wrong with them, but they are generally not very secure and we don't know if this guy is even using smartphone, so it could be a double learning process.

OP you can try updating Sparrow wallet that just released new version 1.7.0 few hours ago, with lot of bug fixes and new features.
I am not sure if this will fix all your issues, but you could also contact developers or write your issue on their github page.
This is a cool wallet and best alternative for Electrum I found so far:

3416  Economy / Goods / Re: ANONYMOUS CARD on: October 27, 2022, 03:05:08 PM
Hello boys,
I am looking for an anonymous prepaid debit card that can also be reloaded with bitcoin and also has low costs, like this one
I don't know about this card you posted and I have to say that it looks sketchy to me.
Only legit company I know that is doing something similar is Coindebit.io, BUT they currently stopped their beta program and they refunded money to their customers.
They should start working again in next few months, so follow their social media for announcements and news.
One little problem with them is that physical cards could only be delivered in United States, digital cards worked worldwide.
Do your own research before sending Bitcoin to any cards like this.

We do not require you to make an account or use any KYC verification to automatically trade cryptocurrencies.
Having no KYC verification is nice, but what happens if someone sends you Bitcoin connected with address that was previously reported for hack and stolen coins?
I can find ZERO information on your website, there is no FAQ page with more information, and only links posted are brand new social media accounts.
Domain is registered yesterday and you already started with exchange business... sorry but this looks very suspicious to me.

There's no warning message about maximum coin which could be swapped.
I added one more zero, so I entered 210 million Bitcoin for swap, and it is still allowing transfer and asking me to send coins after entering valid address, so maybe they have their own ''printer'' Cheesy
3418  Economy / Exchanges / Re: LocalCryptos is shutting down on: October 27, 2022, 02:44:25 PM
Never had to do it locally but once in Atlantic City 2 out of the 5 bills failed. I said have a nice day, shook his hand and walked away. I don't think he was ripping me off but rather the person he got the money from ripped him off. Was actually surprised when I wanted to meet at a casino till I explained why.
That's crazy, but I think there are much more fake bills in circulation than we think, and some of them are much harder to detect, that is why Bitcoin is great and you can't fake it, well unless you use some fork with similar name.
I would personally write a review for seller like this that tries to make an exchange with fake bills, even if he didn't want to scam you, he should be more careful.
There are also small personal money detectors that are not very expensive and you can carry them with you everywhere you go.

Another suggestion would be that if there are people on LocalCryptos you have traded with several times before and have some trust with, then contact them now and ask if they are planning to set up on another platform (if they aren't already using one), or even to suggest that you can arrange private trades after the site goes offline.
I wonder if Bisq 2.0 exchange could make some magic and attract more people that are leaving LocalCryptos.

My uncle's birthday is around the corner ( two weeks to this time ) and I want to gift him something related to crypto, the last time we talked he is so interested in crypto and I told him to keep doing some research online, what do you think is the best gift for a 64 years old man? I am thinking about Doge coin or a Hardware wallet?
Don't be silly to give 64 years old grown man something like Doge, unless you want to make fun of him with shitcoins.
If you really want to give him something valuable think about giving him original coin - Bitcoin, that is decentralized and not controlled by clowns like Elon Musk.
You can also buy him some cool hardware wallet like Passport that looks like old mobile phones, or some other open source wallet like Trezor, Bitbox or Keaystone.

Oh I can't wait to see this new Faketoshi doom trial and I am sure Jameson Lopp is not going to back down so easy.
