Can anyone provide some insight on this? I would like to be able to generate a valid bitcoin address using a pen and a paper, I know this could be done in milliseconds using a computer, But then I can't see the whole operations by my own eyes, of course I will use a computer to do the hard calculations but I will be able to see every and each of the steps and record them for my study. Imagine I'm a teacher trying to explain the procedures on a white board, how can I?
You can do it easily with pen and paper if you have set of regular or casino dices to generate random results. There are several instructions how you can do this for generation seed words and private key, but you will still need some calculations to make sure everything is ok. Not entirely sure about the phone. How would you be hiding the wallet on it? And what are you going to say under a targeted search when they ask you why you have an airgapped phone with no SIM card in it?
It's probably easier to hide it on phone than on laptop. If you are using GrapheneOS you can have multiple users with encrypted drives, and you can even use some random eSIM or old sim card in other account. It's easy to disable/enable accounts and add separate PIN for each account. Alternatively, it is easy to hide in a hidden volume on your laptop, which you could decrypt to show copies of sensitive documents such as your passport or travel insurance. Impossible to prove the hidden volume even exists.
Why would this be any different with smartphone, you can probably do exact same thing with them. Since we seem to go to extreme measures: crack the screen, drain the battery, and nobody will ask you if there's any Bitcoins on it. Buy a replacement screen on your vacation address, and replace it on your own  Please try this experiment for yourself and tell me how long it took for you to replace the screen, but they can always just plug in external screen if they want. How many Bitcoins do you need on vacation anyway?
If wife (or someone else) is coming with me than I guess we need much more Bitcoin on vacation. Not really. A knife, axe or a phone allows for plausible denniability. "I was carring the knife to cut some bread, the axe to chop some trees, and the phone to make some calls".
However, when you are found with a HW, what are you going to say? Exactly.
Exactly what? What you saying it's ridiculous, and if I have hardware wallet that doesn't mean it 100% have any Bitcoin there. Good luck explaining to authorities that you use knife for bread, and not to kill someone, and btw if you don't carry bread with knife or wood with axe than you are a liar. |

They look similar, but K210 is actually a quite special chip. It has more horsepower than current ESP32s, has dual RISCV(open source instruction set) cores running at 400MHz and also some hardware acceleration for video processing and SHA256. Keith, from SeedSigner is on an effort to run SeedSigner code on ESP32s, but it is quite challenging, as they run at 240MHz and lack of fast video buffers. ESP32 manufacturer, Espressif, now seems to be going in direction of RISCV cores, next chips will be more suitable to run optical signers. I was able to run one ESP32 device called TTGO T-display with LNbits code like I wrote below, but I think someone said that this same device can work with Jade hardware wallet firmware. Jade hardware wallet is very similar with M5StickV K210, I am not exactly sure what components are hidden inside, but I think it's ESP32. I didn't post for some time on this topics and I didn't really talk about best ways to protect against most of this attacks, but I decided to do it now.
Best protection from Wrench attack (it was $5 before inflation), chosen nonce attack, supply chain attack, evil made attack, pwned hardware wallet and lost seed, is using good Multisig Setup.
Having airgapped open source hardware wallet in combination with multisig setup is providing reasonably good protection from most attacks, and to be extra secure I would generate seed words offline and not in single hardware wallet.
This is not perfect protection against all attacks, but it is good enough for most people.

When you try to order a card, you need to provide your name/adress. You can't really provide a bogus ID, because when you will use it, some shops may find the transaction suspicious (since the name of the card doesn't match the name of the customer) and so block it.
That can happen if you are ordering some items that should be delivered to your home address, but I don't think anyone would ask for your ID to check if your name is real and legal or nor. Other physical CoinDebit cards I know worked without any name and with them you could purchase food in restaurants, groceries and snacks in shops, fuel in gas station, etc. The physical cards require KYC. OK, thank you for clarification about this. I hoped there could be some workaround for physical cards without strict kyc, maybe with lower limits or some other limitations. That being said, we did some refunds to people that discovered that they can't use the virtual cards for what they wanted to use them. Just might take some time and convincing as this is a manual process. I don't how often are refunds happening with FCF cards, but doing all this manually can be problematic. |

giving false feedback to yourself is something I don't like, but this user seems persistent. I am pretty sure that the same person is behind these accounts, but I would like to get confirmation from other members as well.
It's always suspicious to me whenever I see newbies posting in topics I like, and we all saw similar things happening in forum before. Many times we can't prove any connection between accounts, but it's more than obvious what is happening... similar writing style, short text, extra spaces around comma like posted below, etc. All this accounts are controlled by the same person, and I would consider reporting their posts for spam and low quality. No i am not a liar , i uploaded video here

There are other ways to bypass the CAPTCHA apart from what theymos has said mentioned on that thread but I think the best way to do that is to use the OPERA browser and use its free VPN, to begin with.
You can't bypass any captchas if you use Opera browser with or without VPN, and with Tor browser and VPN there is bigger chance of getting more captchas. There is no real way you can bypass this, but if you don't want to do it all the time than just don't log out from bitcointalk forum. Have one dedicated browser and use it only for this forum as logged in, but I don't recommend using propriety browser Opera that is full of junk and ads. |

I'm using Opera browser for quite long time. Suddenly came across the tab Crypto Wallet. This was something unexpected and going through it, we were able to see the option available to create our own wallet. Have anyone came across Web browsers having Crypto Wallet other than Opera and Brave browser. Are these wallets safe?
I think Brave browser was the first to introduce cryptocurrency wallet integration and than Opera did the same thing, but I never really tried them and I don't consider them safe enough. This are all shitcoin wallets probably only for ethereum, but I wouldn't use them for storing anything more than pocket money that you are ready to lose. I don't consider this wallets safe enough unless it's possible to connect them with hardware wallets somehow. Opera browser is not open source and it's full of crap ads and junk integration so I would stay away from that  |

Yeah I made a mistake about that, thank you for correcting me, and I am glad to see you in bitcointalk forum I think I mixed this up with similar device made by same manufacturer M5Stack Core2 ESP32 AWS Development Kit (M5StickC is also ESP32). I just realized that my table with hardware wallets that work Smartphones can not be fully applied to iOS apple devices that all have lightning ports.
That means that you can't connect wallets like Ledger Nano S, KeepKey, Trezor One, D'CENT, SecuX, CoolWallet, and other wallets with your iPhone or iPad.
Apple does not allow USB OTG, that is available only on Android devices, and ledgr nano x will work with iPhone only via BLE.

I have noticed that my sub-board's moderator is inactive ( mitzie) nearly two months now. Recently the Greek board experienced a sort of spam tornado in this thread, which intrudes the forum rules[1], and I don't believe there's any staff member who would notice my report (there aren't lots who speak Greek to begin with, let alone to moderate the board). There must be some moderator who is responsible for your local board, maybe it's Cyrus or someone else. All you can do is report spam posts and to active local community to be more active.... and from Rikafip monthly reports, Greek board is mostly at bottom for activity. I have also dedicated a decent part of my time in bitcointalk. I registered in March 2020, close to 3 years, and I haven't stopped being active for more than 3 days for once. For those reasons, I want to apply for the moderator position in my local board as I believe I am the most suited.
Good luck with that request, and be ready to grow old waiting Croatian local board had moderator long time ago, than he was removed and theymos asked us to choose new moderator, but that never happened. We tried to raise this question several times and I think we asked theymos again with PM but he didn't reply anything... I don't know why. |

Anyway, back to the point; we could distribute the .apk here on the forum along with a way of verifying the download, which in my opinion is infinitely better than hosting it via a third party site like Google Play. Or we could just host source code and .apk files on github, that is if app would be open source. Than we could add it to alternative platforms that host only open source android apps, like Fdroid, NeoStore, IzzyOnDroid, etc. It would be a different story if app would be released as closed source. Much simpler solution is mobile friendly responsive design for forum website. However, I'm not sure if this would be possible with Apple devices? I'm not too familiar with them as I tend to avoid them like the plague, can you sideload applications without their store?
I don't think it's hard for any developer who would create bitcointalk android app to convert it for iOS app that works on apple devices. Problem is that we would have to wait much longer for app to be investigated, approved and released on their store. |

Why is it that some crypto wallet supports only 12 recovery seed words and others more? I have a bitcoin wallet with 18 seed phrases and it's hard to see any mobile wallet supporting this number, I've tried Exodus, Bread and few others, but they only support 12 seed phrases, what am I not getting here and is there any other solution around this. Are there any reliable crypto wallet that supports the importation of 18 seed phrases?
First you need to know what was the wallet or website you used to create seed with 18 words, and format (BIP39 or electrum) you used to do it, and maybe even derivation path for addresses. If I remember correctly several hardware wallets are supporting 12, 18 and 24 seed words and Coinomi software wallet was also supporting 18 seed words. I would first try using iancoleman website but remember to do it only offline, not connected to internet. |

I have recently started investing in crypto, and I have now decided to create crypto savings accounts for my children. Is it possible to create accounts/wallets in their name, that I can control while they are minors, and that they automatically will become owner of when they turn 18? Or will I need to create a crypto account for myself and just manually gift it to them when they become of age? What might be the smart solution?
If you want to save some Bitcoin for your children you don't need to create any accounts that are centralized controlled. All you need is to have your own Bitcoin wallet and seed words that are held in secure place, use hardware wallets, and than you can add additional wallets for your children. THis can be done simple with separate passphrase for each child, so they would need to have two things to recover their keys. First part is your seed words (that is the same for all children) and second part is separate passphrase known only to them. If you want to make everything extra secure than you can create multisig setup with your children. |

You can see your feedback (and everyone else) if you click on Trust in your profile. If you make a trade with someone you can write a feedback on his profile if you want, but that is not mandatory. Asking someone to give you feedback does not mean he they do that, and I would first work on being more active in forum. Most people won't risk making any trades with random newbies who made few posts in forum. |

Why doesn't every hardware wallet support the use of a seed phase + password? It seems like a really simple way to add a layer of protection in case the seed phrase you've written down is discovered. Right now, written seed phrases are like writing your bank account and log-in credentials on a piece of paper and hoping nobody finds it. All hardware wallets I know are supporting passphrase that is acting like salt to seed phrases, and that is not stored anywhere on device. Password is something different and that is usually stored in device, that means there is a chance for getting extracted and device hacked. You can also use multisig setup to make seed words much more secure, and some hardwre wallets have new methods of protection. Do modern hardware wallets like the Ledger Nano S Plus, Nano X, Trezor, etc. already support applying a password to seed phrases? Is it just a feature that's hidden and not promoted that much?
Hardware wallets you mentioned are not that modern like you think, and password in not as secure as you think. Ledger have pin when you power on device and you can add additional passphrase later that is connected with pin. Don't mix password with pin and passphrase. One interesting new concept is used by Cypherock X1 hardware wallet device, they are not storing anything on device, and keys are split in multiple secure cards. |

Which one should I use ? Native Segwit (and Taproot) are starting with bc1, and they are newest formats and most people is using that to save on fees, but you can use anything you like, they all work. I would use Bech32 aka Native Segwit format. Which address should I send BTC from Binance Exchange by selecting which network ? I wouldn't send any coins to centralized exchanges like Binance for holding only for exchanging, but I think they support all mainnet formats. Watch out not to confuse that with other shitcoin blockchains that have fake bitcoin tokens (tron, binance chain, ethereum, etc) What is the difference ? All tokens on other blockchains are not not really Bitcoin, they are centralized and can go to zero anytime. |

Is there such a thing being developed and kept updated? What I mean is a distro that comes with preinstalled software that you would need for any Bitcoin related business (full node software like Core, another lightweight software like Electrum, all libraries pre-installed, Tor, some other useful tools and everything else declutted)
There was one bitcointalk member MagnumOpus3kwho created Linux distro preloaded with Bitcoin related software and it's called LockBox Linux OS. He created topic about that OS in bitcointalk forum, but I don't know how often he updates it. Second option is Tails OS, this is minimalist Linux OS you can use with USB stick, but I think it comes only with Electrum wallet. You don't need to install Bitcoin Core because it's unrealistic to use it minimalist like you want and you would have to wait a long time to sync. I would rather install Fedora CoreOS or Debian myself (they are both coming without any bloatware) and than add Electrum or any other wallet or software later. HW's are anti privacy because it already reveals by default you are holding Bitcoin.
This is so wrong....with your logic if you carry a knife or axe with you than you are already a killer right? On your laptop or phone you can carry much more than bitcoin keys, including bunch of your sensitive information. |
