2401  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Multisig Wallet 2 of 3 on: March 03, 2023, 02:28:30 PM
Do I only need the 3 seeds of the hardware wallet to restore the wallet, or do I also need the master public keys?
I don't know for all hardware wallets, but I know that for Blockstream Jade you need both recovery phrase and xpub to restore your wallet.
Ledger and Trezor are not great for multisig setup, or they didn't fully support it when I last checked, so I would be very careful whit devices you going to use.

To sign I would then need 2 of 3 of the HWW,
but to restore I need all 3 seeds right?
Or are 2 out of 3 enough to restore the wallet ?
Yes, with two keys you can spend keys, and there is no single point of failure, but you need to have all three to restore (unless you have xpub from the lost key).

Is it also possible to create a 2 of 3 multisig with the Bitcoin Core wallet?
I would generally not recommend doing this, unless you are already running Bitcoin node 24/7.
If not than you will have to wait for days for blockchain to download and wallet to sync, not ideal situation when you want to make multisig transaction,
2402  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Security feature will still work as intended? on: March 03, 2023, 02:11:24 PM
will the hardware wallet not feel concerned...
...crypto wallets aren't supposed to feel or have feelings.
You can import seed words from hot wallet to hardware wallet if you are stupid enough to do it... I don't see any good reason for that when you can just send coins to new address.
There is a reason why hardware wallets are more secure because keys are stored offline and they never gets exposed to internet, unless you leak them yourself.

PS
As for crypto wallet feelings and concerns... this is not a circus, so if you continue making comments and posts like this I will have to start reporting them to moderators and put you on my ignore list.
2403  Economy / Reputation / Re: 'Bitcointalk forum is going downhill because of dkbit98' - CoinPayCard.net SCAM on: March 02, 2023, 08:31:23 PM
I received partial card numbers in personal message from guy that was scammed by CoinPayCard and I did basic search to find more information about Bank and issuer.
Here is short initial summary I was able to found so far:

Issuer/Bank exact name is: Private Bank & Trust Co
This is actual company with address: 920 S Waukegan Rd Ste 100, Lake Forest, IL 60045
Phone number registered to Alan H Kohn: (847) 482-8100
Official websites theprivatebank.com and privatebankandtrust.com are down for me.

This is their page on Bloomberg website that confirms they are operating as bank:
https://www.bloomberg.com/profile/company/0799354D:US#xj4y7vzkg?leadSource=uverify%20wall

Stay tuned, I am digging to find more information and connections.
You are free to add anything you find yourself.

EDIT:
CoinPayCard account was online in forum on March 1st, so he is well aware of everything:

2404  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Circus on: March 02, 2023, 08:14:19 PM
Whenever I think I heard everything I need to know about ledger nono X hardware wallet, something new pops up to show how bad this device is.
We all heard about  screen issues with older model S that is not manufactured anymore, but model X have their own design flows related with screen.
If you often open and move metallic part screen will be scratched a lot and hard to read like in this examples:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/11dy997/flaw_with_the_ledger_x_design/

My suggestion is first not to buy ledger X for reasons I wrote in this topic, but if you already purchased it than do not remove screen protective foil (if there is one).
It is also possible to remove the metal clip and bend the metal to reduce scratches but be careful while doing this.
I am sure ledger is well aware of this crap design, that is why they made corrections with model S plus.

2405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Alby a legitimate extension for lightning network usage? on: March 02, 2023, 07:55:28 PM
Is anyone aware of the risks of this extension, or has pursued studies on its reliability and excluded the possibility of scams?
I never used Alby myself so I can't vouch for anything, but I know people who use it for many months without any issues.
Alby is open source so any developer can inspect code and see if there are any potential flaws or bugs, but I am excluding possibility of scam.
They are very active on social media so you can contact them with your concerns, they can provide you better explanations for your questions.
2406  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: My PC cannot detect my ledger through electrum. on: March 02, 2023, 07:34:07 PM
I don't want to try anything else without someone else's input here. Anyone else have had this problem before?
Thousands of people have many issues with ledger nono X, it's one of the worst hardware wallets in the world.
Most problems are coming from bad battery and firmware issues, but in your case I would first make to sure to have latest firmware update and Bitcoin app in ledger live.
Ledger recently released new update and they changed a bunch of things, app size increased again for some coins (surprise, surprise).
If everything is updated I would try connecting with some alternative software wallets that support ledger, for example Sparrow wallet.
2407  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Which best for long term investment? Hardware wallet or Software wallet . on: March 02, 2023, 07:21:53 PM
I don't have any money to buy hardware. So I suggest using a software wallet.  However, I have no idea which wallet to use will provide the most security. So tell me a bit about what is a strong and security complete wallet?
If you have money to buy smartphone than I don't understand how you can't have much less money for purchasing hardware wallet.
Software wallets can never be safer than good hardware wallets, except if you are using them correctly on airgapped laptop, that is very unlikely for people who don't have money.

Theoretically speaking, a hardware wallet has more attack vectors than a software wallet, however that entirely depends on how you intend to use it.
What?!  Cheesy
No, hardware wallets don't have more attack vectors, because their only purpose is to work with cryptocurrency transactions.
Software wallets are installed on multi-purpose devices like computers or smartphones that by definition have multiple time more attacks vectors than hardware wallets.
Not to mention all the risk with malware, viruses, keyloggers, internet connection, and bunch of other issues that don't exist on good hardware wallets.
2408  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you know which Bitcoin wallets provides complete anonymity & privacy? on: March 02, 2023, 05:13:31 PM
Why use the second best wallet when the first one exists?
Roll Eyes
If you have the ability to fully read my previous message than you will see the reasons I stated why I recommended Sparrow wallet, in some areas it is better than Electrum wallet.
It is totally related to question Elevates asked about privacy, and I don't think further explanation is needed at all.
2409  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you know which Bitcoin wallets provides complete anonymity & privacy? on: March 02, 2023, 03:44:24 PM
If you are concerned about privacy I would suggest to check open source desktop wallet called Sparrow.
This is probably second best Bitcoin wallet after Electrum, and it has support for Tor, Paynyms, Coinjoin with Whirlpool, support for hardware wallets, strong encryption, etc.
https://sparrowwallet.com/

For mobile wallet Unstoppable wallet is decent choice, it's open source, has Tor support and it respects privacy:
https://unstoppable.money/

Wallets that support Lightning Network and some second layer privacy solutions (Mercury Wallet) can also be consider good for privacy.
2410  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you buy a hardware wallet from unsupported location on: March 02, 2023, 03:34:06 PM
1. Is it safe to ship the hardware wallet to my cousin in the UK and he will send it back to me in Nigeria or this is a good idea? I read that it's safer to buy from official than going to third-party store,  I don't want something malicious inserted in the hardware wallet,  waiting for my first deposit into the wallet.
It should be sure if he makes a purchase for hardware wallet from official shop or from UK resellers, and then send you the unopened package.
Anything can happen in customs, but you can always confirm if wallet is authentic or not, and generate brand new seed words for your wallet.
You can also make your own alternative DIY signing device (krux, seegsigner, diy trezor), or you can use old smartphone as offline wallet (if you remove sim card and turn on airplane mode).
2411  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: March 01, 2023, 08:47:44 PM
We've tested extensively for durability in-house, and one of the reasons we went with the metal frame was to provide drop resistance. The combination of plastic shell + metal frame protect the screen/keys/camera module very well from their functionality being harmed.
So you didn't experience any serious damage to screen or vital parts of devices during this durability testing?
It would be cool if you could reveal more information about that, but I understand if it's only for internal use.
I think we need to have some guy like JerryRigEverything (check out his youtube channel) but only for testing hardware wallets  Cheesy

We're also working on accessories for our next device for these very reasons. Excited to announce it all when the time is right Smiley
Now you got me interested, just don't go with BlackBerry style device please  Wink
2412  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Secure Element in Hardware Wallets on: March 01, 2023, 08:41:11 PM
More good news coming from Trezor related with microchips they are using.
They started manufacturing their own key component chip wrapper for Trezor model T, that improves security and shortens times for mass production.
I think this is all very important for their new hardware wallet model, that is going to be something special with Tropic01 secure element, and it could reduce price for their devices.

2413  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Paper wallet on Android phone on: March 01, 2023, 08:08:47 PM
After he use that to create a paper wallet, he will format the phone again.
Dude, phone can't be a paper... ever.  Smiley
He can use his old phone (or cheap laptop) as offline wallet and that will work just fine in most cases, it's enough to reset the phone, and install one Bitcoin wallet app.
Then he should remove sim card, turn of wifi and bluetooth, and enable airplane mode, and use QR codes for communication with other devices.
Some people are going extra measure and they are removing components from phones, but I don't think that is needed.

Better option than old smartphone are hardware wallets, he can make his own DIY signing device that are very cheap (starting from few $) or buy official hardware wallet devices (starting from $50).
There are even hardware wallets in form of credit cards, that are cheap and very secure, they can be used in combination with smatphones for making transactions.
2414  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcoin Bookstore on: March 01, 2023, 07:47:03 PM
Maybe contact the book authors that also sell their books with BTC already? That leaves only a few books.
First step would be to contact authors of books you have on your website.
Since you are giving them free promotion you can ask them to send you their BTC addresses for payment and they can send books directly to buyers.
For every sold book from your website you could receive small percentage payment, similar like with referral codes.
I said previously there are Amazon cards that are sold for Bitcoin, you can also sell this cards on your website for indirect payment of those books.

You could also add separate section for Bitcoin e-books.
For example Andreas Antonopoulos is selling his e-book Mastering Bitcoin, and he is accepting payment in Bitcoin directly, using BTCPay server or Coinbase.

2415  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance - where is it located? on: March 01, 2023, 02:33:55 PM
How does a company like Binance pay taxes (if at all?) and under which law are they to respond to any disbutes?
We know for sure that Binance US is located in United States, they pay taxes and all other stuff in US, but this was created in 2019 and they exist much longer.

Coingecko website is showing that original Binance exchange is using Cayman Islands location, probably to pay less taxes and avoid regulations.
CoinMarketCap (that is owend by Binance) and they are not saying anything about current location, but we know that it was founded in China

It's much easier to find out where CZ is currently located, and if he is in China than Binance exchange is also in China  Wink
2416  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Crypto ATMs in Tokyo? on: March 01, 2023, 02:17:55 PM
There are two crypto ATMs listed on the website Coinatmradar for the city Tokyo. Does anyone have more information on these machines?
There are more places you can find Bitcoin ATM machines for exchanging Bitcoin or purchasing goods with Bitcoin in Japan.
Try to search your location in coinmap.org website, it is showing much more places in Tokyo that support Bitcoin.
On different website coinatmfinder.com I see 4 Bitcoin ATM locations in Tokyo.
However, I don't have any additional information about them related with fees, limits, identification, etc.

Sources I used:
https://coinmap.org/
https://www.coinatmfinder.com/bitcoin-atm-location/Japan

EDIT:
One more useful source map and app you can use for finding places for spending Bitcoin in Japan:

2417  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: yahoo62278 scammed the forum with his fake donation (part 2) on: March 01, 2023, 01:59:07 PM
...

Pocket Science?
First time I hear about that, but it must be something related with thieves and criminals who are stealing stuff from people pockets... it's science for pockets.
Now comes the twist, I search for term Pocket Science, and there is actual company with that same name, and Pocket Science myth.  Shocked

PS
Would you guys please stop bumping this topic, and moderators please lock it.
2418  Economy / Reputation / Re: Ban member GodsOfSolana? on: March 01, 2023, 01:51:19 PM
I don't know the reason for this user selling his newbie account which previously looked like it belonged to a project representative on the forum. A while ago there was a signature campaign about them on the forums, but it was only for a week before it was finally put on pause.
Maybe because on our conversation I told him the truth about his solana shitchain stopping all the time, and he couldn't handle the truth  Cheesy

So I don't think they will be banned for trying to sell their account. Maybe if they are spamming.
Nobody said they should be banned for selling his account, but he literally turned all his previous posts in spam fest with editing and adding same sentence, that is definition for spam.
I see moderators deleted most of his posts, but few of them are still visible, so maybe they can edit them and return original text from archive.

2419  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Bitcoin weaken the Wests ability to fight enemies of freedom? on: February 28, 2023, 08:01:25 PM
One of the most valid criticisms of Bitcoin is that it reduces the ability of the Unite States to sanction enemies of the West
Oh please... give me a break  Roll Eyes
There is no East or West, they are all political puppet controlled by small group of people, and we should all be aware of that after things that happened in last few years and decades.
Military industrial complex machinery is running full steam and I only see paid people putting more gasoline on this wild fire.
Bitcoin can be used by anyone without limits, and sanctions are not doing anything btw, they made much more damage to the ''West''.
All this circus reminds me a lot on George Orwell's book (and movies) 1984, with Oceania ''fighting'' Eurasia, and in reality few rich lunatics are in war with majority of regular people.

The US is the military arm of the WEF, and as such is one of the greatest enemies of freedom. Bitcoin gives us the chance to resist the banking oligarchs, who are seeking to restrict our freedom.
I could be wrong, but I think they are still allowing us to play with Bitcoin until they release their stupid CBDC crap.
For some people it will be easier to accept that slave CBDC money, now when they got used to Bitcoin and QR codes.
Again, I hope I am wrong... but let's check back on this post in 5 or 7 yearsm, and see if I was wrong.
2420  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Stax (Ledger's latest hardware wallet) on: February 28, 2023, 07:45:32 PM
Decrypt just released first in-depth review of new Ledger Stax hardware wallet that is showing most we saw so far, but I am not sure if this is paid or sponsored review.
Funny enough they didn't like ledger's E-ink display (I like it btw) because it can't be fully used to display NFT's in full color, and with right they say that some users don't like wireless protocol for communicating with other devices.
I expected to see more from this review, maybe comparison with older ledger wallets or showing other improvements or weak points, but whatever.
