2581  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Krux DIY Hardware Wallet on: February 08, 2023, 07:52:47 PM
Even M5stickV has 3 buttons now. After an update, power button can be used to navigate(go back).
DIY version Dock navigates using a rotary encoder.
Yeah I know, but I have to admit that buttons are not very comfortable to use, if anyone plans to use them for entering letters and seed words manually Wink

I don't know how old Androids will handle the app. As the app doesn't require anything fancy I hope it has some wide range of compatibility. I have some cheap, but not old phones to test. If you try let us know if it worked.
I tried using Krux app with Android v4.4.2 and sadly it could not be installed on this old smartphone from year 2015.
It works just fine in any newer smartphone and in android emulators.
2582  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: $8 LNbits DIY Wallet on: February 08, 2023, 07:43:19 PM
I find this thread very interesting, I've been wanting to try my hand at producing a DIY hardware wallet for some time, I also saw that it supports lightning network! I would like to know since you haven't updated the thread for some time if you have encountered problems, both on the hardware and on the software side
Everything works fine and I didn't have any problems, but I am not using it very much and device is just ''sleeping'' in one of my tech drawers.
I remember there was some small issues during initial firmware and software installation, but this was related to my operating system, not with device itself.
Device I used was dirt cheap and I printed my own case, so it's easy to do it yourself.

I immediately came to look since I am very passionate about DIY
very nice, I wanted to try with M5stack since I own this device (but I miss the keyboard, I have to provide it)
I don't know if it works with M5stack (not confirmed on website), but I used TTGO T-Display that works fine, and you don't really need to have any keyboard for this.
2583  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Safepal hardware wallet review and opinions on: February 08, 2023, 07:31:17 PM
Full article Partial Teardown of the SafePal S1
https://blog.inhq.net/posts/safepal-s1-teardown1/
It's possible there are some little changes after they did recent facelift and brand design changes.
Judging by Christian Reitter who opened Safepal last year, there are no tamper detection sensors here, so it looks like one more false advertisement from Safepal.
I would never spend a single dollar on this wallet, but if someone already owns it's good to know that battery can be replaced.

honestly speaking, i don't think a firmware update will solve the safepal s1 battery problem, i think the problem is just the type of battery supplied with the hardware wallet that doesn't hold a charge! trying to replace it could trigger the self-destruct protection! you should first order a new device or get a different device than safepal
Does anyone know how exactly their self-destruction mechanism works?
If it is triggered by opening of device, than it would be almost impossible to replace battery, but it can probably still be used with cable power connection.
They obviously added self-destruction sticker to make it sound look than it is  Roll Eyes
2584  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Discussion] Taro: A new protocol for multi-asset Bitcoin and Lightning on: February 08, 2023, 07:11:48 PM
I have created a web wallet for Taro that you can find here
https://testnet.tarowallet.net/
This wallet is still in alpha experimental stage of development, but why do I need to create online account with username and password, instead of downloading wallet and installing it on my computer?
I am not interested in creating and using any altcoins or nft with this wallet, but I would consider using it as alternative for stable coins.
Another problem I have with this wallet is that I can't find any information about license, so you might want to add this on website.
2585  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BIP39 vs Electrum Mnemonic seed on: February 08, 2023, 06:03:13 PM
Why Electrum doesn't use BIP39 seed? even use and have the same wordlist as BIP39 (2048 words).
Electrum developers think that BIP39 seed is not safe enough so they tried to improve it by making their own system and fixing shortcomings.
I know this could be confusing to some users, and I would suggest writing extra information when you are generating seed words, by simply writing small note like Electrum or BIP39.
In same way I would write derivation path that is not standard, passphrase, and anything that could help recover coins.

How to know if no.1 is bip39 seed and no.2 is electrum seed?
You can only know by importing words and checking your balance after that.
2586  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can this forum be targetted? on: February 08, 2023, 05:52:28 PM
With a strategy to stop the growth of bitcoins by reducing the community behind it, Is it possible that the government (say a collective effort by them all) target bitcointalk since it is the largest community bitcoin has(I think), to stop the activities of forum members from staying together to ensure that this community is disbanded?
It's impossible to stop Bitcoin by targeting Bitcointalk forum, and I am sure theymos is making regular backups in case something bad happens, so it can be restored quickly.
Most of developers and people who are working on Bitcoin code are not actively writing in forum, but in theory we could always create another way of communication.
Nostr was recently released as alternative to Twitter and it is growing in popularity a lot, so maybe it's possible to do something similyr for bitcoin forum.
2587  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Bitcoin bankomati i fizičke kripto mjenjačnice u Hrvatskoj... i šire on: February 08, 2023, 04:41:41 PM
Može još jedno ažuriranje FatFork i Pmalek?  Smiley

Shitcoins.club otvara prvi Bitcoin bankomat za kriptovalute u Sarajevu, glavnom gradu Bosne i Hercegovine, iako u BiH promet kriptovalutama još nije zakonski uređen.

2588  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2023 List Bitcoin Mixers Bitcoin Tumblers Websites on: February 07, 2023, 10:11:00 PM
A minor correction. You can pick your Wasabi coinjoin coordinator. You are not required to use zksnacks.
This is correct, but there is a good chance you won't be able to coinjoin anything because there are not enough coins with using different coordinators, or coinjoin results would be poor.
On top of that, most of the people don't even know how to choose different coordinator, and there is always a risk this other coordinators could be arrested for doing something illegal, so it's not very popular position Wink
2589  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2023 List Bitcoin Mixers Bitcoin Tumblers Websites on: February 07, 2023, 09:45:26 PM
OK. So Coinjoin we can consider it decentralized, I guess that's the main difference.
It's more decentralized than other mixing solutions, but there are still some parts that can be centralized, like we saw in case with Wasabi wallet.
Joinmarket would be much better and more decentralized than all other mixing options.

The guy above is a bot, or?  Huh
Post reported.
I did some testing of his posts for AI detection and results are showing high chance that he is actually a bot that used some tools to generate posts.
Than I saw his post history, with him writing in many different languages like Spanish, Italian, Russian, so I am even more sure this guy should be banned for plagiarism and use of AI tools.

2590  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Trezor CoinJoin RIP on: February 07, 2023, 09:29:22 PM
Trezor just announced they are starting to test CoinJoin with their devices, and they called everyone who owns Trezor Model T to participate if they want!
They didn't post more information about this, but judging by questions asked in their form this will happen in February, and you need to send them your email address (use alternative temp email for this).
You will receive invitation to join a Google Meets conference call on test day., and Trezor claims they will delete this record when testing ends, within 30 days at the latest.

Dates and times for testing are:
- February 15, 15:00 UTC
- February 22, 17:00 UTC

https://satoshilabs.typeform.com/coinjointesting

According to information I saw on Trezor github page, you will have to download latest Trezor Suite v23.2.1 pre-release that have option to test CoinJoin with Bitcoin testnet.
https://github.com/trezor/trezor-suite/releases

It sucks that Trezor Model One is not enough for CoinJoin, but I would like to see explanation why we can't use Model One.
This is what Trezor support said about this on reddit:
Quote
At the moment Trezor Model One does not support CoinJoin, as we are still exploring options of the implementation.
https://www.reddit.com/r/TREZOR/comments/10w0jfx/comment/j7kuzv1

I will use this topic to post all the information from Trezor testing, and people who join this testing can write their own experience.
2591  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Krux DIY Hardware Wallet on: February 07, 2023, 09:04:55 PM
How do you enter the passphrase when it has just one button? Or is it scanned in through a second QR code? Of course this wouldn't be an acceptable solution either, since someone could take a photo of that (while you don't notice) or just steal it, as well.
Dude, I don't know who told you about one button, but you are wrong about this, it would be almost impossible to operate any device with just one button, unless it's joystick style  Wink
Small device M5StickV K210 have two buttons I think, and other larger devices that work with Krux code have more buttons.

Sure! But at that point, it resembles more an airgapped computer than a hardware wallet, for me. Of course it will be hard to draw a line between the two definitions.
It's airgapped device.
Computer usually have more functions and it has wider attack surface.

Yes I was talking about this, but previous version of secure element ATECC508A had even bigger issues, so old ColdCard (I think mk2) had to change it very fast.
It's realistic to say that same thing can happen with  ATECC608A and ATECC508B in future, like with any other secure elements, and you can't exactly remove and replace secure element from working device.

Do you know how passphrase entry is realized? I believe unless you have a nice keypad like Passport or ColdCard, most people will just avoid using (a sufficiently secure) one.
Even if you have perfect keypad like Passport you certainly wont write very long passphrase essays, because you still need to enter this each time you use device.

You could check the Android app to have an idea of what we are talking about.
Krux Android App for testing (this is also working on some Android emulators I tried):
https://github.com/odudex/krux_binaries/tree/main/Android

What would be oldest the Android version supporting Krux app?
I have some ancient smartphone device with Android 4 or 5 I think  Cheesy
2592  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: February 07, 2023, 08:46:55 PM
i better go with stamps for $30 from ali and copper plate from our local shop ($10).
Copper is durable metal and you can use it, but stainless steel is better in every way and it's even cheaper than copper if you buy washers in your local shop, they are less than $10.
If copper was better than everyone would use it to make metal backups for Bitcoin, and I only saw one or two products who did that, compared to hundreds of projects that use stainless steel.
FYI Copper melting point is 1981 F (1083 C), and for stainless steel that is 2750 F (1510 C), big difference if fire happens near your metal backup.

Thus, only suchmoon's Bitcoins remained unclaimed.  Shocked
I think that means that suchmoon is rejecting his title of Miss Bitcointalk bronze medal winner, and he is officially confirming that he is 100% male.
For next year you must add category for Mister Bitcointalk like someone suggested before. Smiley
Oh, and what happened with custom hardware wallet rewards that some members didn't want to accept?
2595  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: February 07, 2023, 08:05:32 PM
...
Great work yet again Rikafip!
My first impression from this review is that Nigerian local board is growing very fast after theymos approved it's creation.
I wouldn't be surprised if they become one of the most active boards in future, even above Turkish and German boards, and with better forum support for mobile devices they could soon be on top.
That is why I think it would be a good decision to do the same thing with Pakistan board, and I wouldn't mind if each local board gets their own native moderator.
Make forum upgrade to responsive design or create Bitcointalk app, and I can guarantee overall forum activity will improve a lot.
2596  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk forum vs OpenAI - ChatGPT on: February 07, 2023, 07:51:59 PM
https://detectgpt.ericmitchell.ai/

Another AI detector. Pretty good at detecting human text or AI. Maybe more checks are needed, though.
I tested this tool few times and it worked much slower than other tools like this I tested before.
It's much important to have better detection than speed, but I had to mention this.

More news related with ChatGPT.
After g00gle joined the race, now we have China with Baidu search engine is quickly following this AI hype and officially they are working on their own ChatGPT style project called ''Ernie Bot''.
Moments after announcing this news stock price of Baidu increased a lot even if we don't know much details how it will work.
It looks to me like someone gave a green light signal to everyone so they can start working on AI projects like this.
My prediction is that Yandex will soon announce their own version of ChatGPT project  Tongue

2597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Andresen calls it a "mistake" to trust CSW on: February 06, 2023, 09:30:16 PM
An additional paragraph appeared this morning at the top of a blog post Gavin Andresen wrote back in May 2016 about his meeting with CSW.
Gavin posted this only because many people recently started to post on social media that Faketoshi is still using Gavin old posts everywhere as some kind of ''proof'' that he is the real Satoshi  Roll Eyes
Now I guess he finally saw everyone mentioning his name so he decided to update his old post... but he didn't wrote that he made a mistake of thinking CSW is Satoshi, he made a mistake only for trusting him as much as he did.
Game is not over, just Gavin is not playing it anymore... until his new blog post.
2598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Offline Wallet on: February 06, 2023, 09:13:43 PM
One of the problem I am having trying to buy S1 online is the shipping duration to my country then the shipping fee..
The last time I checked Amazon the shipping fee alone for Safepal S1 is about 17.7$ to Nigeria when the price of the wallet it's self is 49$.
I wouldn't waste a single dollar on Safepal hardware wallet, and it has nothing to do with price of delivery, it's closed source cheap device that I don't trust at all.
If you don't have money and you can't wait for delivery, than you can easily make a cold wallet using your old smartphone that is free, just remove sim card, reinstall OS and turn on airplane mode.
You you can than install some open source wallet on this device and use it together with your main phone or laptop for making transactions.
This is not perfect solution but it's still much better than only using only hot wallets.
2599  Other / Meta / Re: Use Of Multiple Accounts on: February 06, 2023, 08:58:24 PM
Why do people use Multiple Accounts?
Because they can and it's not against forum rules, unless they are doing ban evasion.
There are different reasons people use multiple accounts, and it could be for privacy reasons, for financial benefit, for use on multiple devices, for cheating, etc.
Better stick with one account, increase post quality, help other members and increase your activity gradually.

Does it mean that one Account is not enough to post on this forum?
One account in forum it's more than enough in 2023.

2600  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets that work with Smartphones? on: February 06, 2023, 08:47:32 PM
Sure about that? I mean on Passport with microSD adapter it is supposed to work. But maybe the iPhone only supports mass storage media through Lightning. On the other hand, a solution would be for the Ledger to show itself as a 'fake' mass storage device through which PSBTs are automatically exchanged.
Yes I am 100% sure because I confirmed it with official Ledger support team, but you can always ask them yourself Wink
Only ledger device that currently works with iPhones in ledger nano x using bluetooth ble connection.
It's different story with SD cards and I am not sure about that.

You probably can't plug in an arbitrary USB device, so some custom / hacky solution like I described would be necessary. But I do think it should work.
Ok, go ahead and try doing that.
If you manage to do it maybe ledger will send you some nice bounty reward for doing something impossible they can't do for years.
Ask someone to donate you one of ledgers devices and hack it... can't wait to see results of your new project Cheesy
