As to your other angle, it all comes down to perspectives or frames of reference if you wish. One side tries to frame the conflict in terms of a separate, individual localized incident where Russia out of the blue attacks small Ukraine for a land grab. Very easy to argue for Ukraine as a victim and dismiss Russia with crazy Putin as a big bad aggressor, pretty clear cut whats good and bad.

Georgia 2008, Ukraine 2014, no, it's not "individual localized", it follows the pattern of Putin attempting to resurrect a totalitarian dictatorship, collapse of which he not-so-subtly called the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century.

But taking a step back and looking at a bigger picture you realize that suddenly things are not so simple, and some things don't make sense at all. Clearly by officially providing live intel and 17,000 anti-tank missiles and 2,000 stinger anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine makes it a proxy war for superpowers with Ukraine stuck in the middle.

How does it not "make sense at all" for Ukraine to acquire defensive capabilities after the aforementioned aggressions? Surely it makes at least some sense if you really want to step back and take a look at the whole picture and not just Putin's "interests".

Now this is where things get very nuanced, not so black and white, and now whats good and whats bad isn't so clear anymore. Just because things are complicated doesn't make Russia right, but people start thinking, and this is not the field mass media and people with agenda, want to play on.

No, it's still actually quite clear, no need to muddy the waters here. If Alice robs Bob's house and Carol's house and Carol buys a baseball bat and Alice comes back to rob Carol 8 years later, no sane person would think that this is complicated or nuanced.

After Saudis double tap a Yemen funeral with a 500 pound laser-guided bombs manufactured by the United States resulting in 155 killed, US sells $110 billion in weapons in 2017 and $350 billion over 10 years to Saudi Arabia while Saudis are still involved in the Yemeni war causing (8,672 civilians killed and 9,741 injured by coalition's airstrikes) and no one bats an eye, the war is still ongoing. Russia starts a conflict in Ukraine with 406 civilians killed and everyone looses it, Russian funds are stolen, every mass media is covering the war almost 24/7, major cities light up their buildings in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, online warriors are activated and put Ukrainian flags in the profile, and people want to start WW3 by asking NATO to start shooting down Russian planes ("no fly zone"). Clearly all due to the loss of human life and because Saudis are not a dictatorship Roll Eyes

So in your twisted world selling weapons and using weapons is the same thing?

Don't they have connections to China/Kazakhstan, as long as blocks can get through China/Kazakhstan BTC should be fine. It only takes one synced node to share the blocks with the rest.

Dipsh!t..You forgot Mongolia, Finland, North Korea, Georgia, Letonia, Estonia, Azerbaijan, Norway and Ukraine.

Where exactly is Letonia on the map?

 OPsec alert:
Letonia occupies the same spacetime as Latvia but in Romania or Spanish... maybe Turkish.

Are we so brainwashed we support local censorship but condemn Russians for doing the same?  Are we so brainwashed we call Putin's acts inhumane but we support hatred against average Russians who have nothing to do with this?  I have no idea.  One thing is sure, we are being lied one way or another.  Orwell was right.  We are currently living in his world without a doubt.  If someone has a contradictory argument, please come up and write it down.  I am really too confused by what is going on to understand what is good and bad anymore.

You've fallen into the trap of false equivalence.

Putin's regime attacked an independent country, lied about "military exercises" / no intention to attack Ukraine / "special operation" / not targeting civilians; threatened with nuclear weapons; persecutes, beats up, arrests people for merely saying "no to war", and that's just off the top of my head for the last couple of weeks.

Ukrainian government possibly lied about their losses in the war.

Same thing?

Surely some kremlintroll will be around soon to tell me that some Ukrainian lied about something else too. Also the US invaded countries. Et cetera. Whataboutism is a favorite tool of Soviet propaganda, very easy to use and quite effective on a mass scale.

Then there is this whole "average Russians" thing. I don't know who's telling you to hate them but you shouldn't. Average Russians are victims of the regime too.

I struggle with the whataboutism, sure, ethically you cannot justify littering just because you saw someone else do it. But in a competitive environment that simply doesn't work, and the appropriate term for such action is preferential treatment/discrimination, and it just gives an unfair advantage to one side. For my friends, everything; for my enemies, the law e.g. Coworker comes in late all the time, but the first time you come in 15min late to work you get written up/reprimanded. Or your team gets a fault for doing exactly the same thing that the opposing team was allowed to do the whole game. Or your kids test gets marked down for the same mistakes that all of the other kids got away with ...

As to your other angle, it all comes down to perspectives or frames of reference if you wish. One side tries to frame the conflict in terms of a separate, individual localized incident where Russia out of the blue attacks small Ukraine for a land grab. Just because things are complicated doesn't make Russia right, but people start thinking, and this is not the field mass media and people with agenda, want to play on.

It's not a proxy war if one of the partys takes an active part in the fighting.

Ukraine is not "stuck in the middle" It's being invaded and actively begging the world to send weapons and soldiers. And the world is responding, you can add 5000 AT-4s from Sweden to the list.

Ukrainian soldier trying to figure out what the heck it says on one of those AT-4s

.....
....even a stopped clock can be correct from time to time - a couple times a day to be more precise.

Indeed....
However, there is no way for one to determine when it is correct, unless one has a working clock next to it, in which case, surely the stopped clock is not only useless, but also irrelevant....Perhaps?

I recall an old saying that went something like: You never take two clocks with you when you travel, you either take one or three.

Was the person saying that wearing an onion in his belt?
408  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 07, 2022, 05:28:52 PM
I am trying to remain as neutral as possible about this war and this is getting me way too confused.  I do not know if people realize how dumb or contradictory so many of their or the mainstream arguments are, and please nobody take this as directed towards a specific user or person over here.  Just my thoughts, no negative intents.

They are blaming Russia for censoring the Western news and media, but Europe was first in this war with this kind of censorship by removing Russian TV channels, news websites et cetera.  I literally see the news that Russia Today is banned all over Europe and few hours later they call out Russia for censoring American or Western newsletters and channels.  They call one censorship, and the other one a sanction.  The argument about Putin being a pedophile exists on both sides.  The propaganda clearly exists in both Western and Russian state media, each having their own purposes to fulfill.  I have seen them mentioning how under 100 Ukrainian soldiers have died at the time while the Ukrainian forces have killed over 4,000 Russian soldiers which is just so unrealistic.

I find it mind boggling how Russian propaganda is blamed but we are cheering the Western one.  There was this picture of two kids in front of a tank posted by some popular, pro-Ukrainian figure.  The caption was specifically mentioning this was a photo from Ukraine, 2022.  Comments were filled up with messages such as: 'This is an old photo.' 'Does not matter. The message is the same'.  Video game or older clips of previous wars are shown as real Ukrainian fights.  Crazy.  If Russia does this however, it is blamed.  Funny how this works.

Things do get worse.  The massive websites of the Internet allow talking about how Putin should be beheaded but you can not even contemplate questioning America's intentions without being banned or censored for it.  How should I trust America or Europe when I am not allowed to even research what each side is saying?

Russia warns Ukraine may be staging a specific false flag event and they are told to fuck off.  Ukraine says Russia may be staging a specific false flag event and everyone blames Russia for it.  We are supporting the assassination of Putin but we are blaming him for trying to assassinate the Ukrainian President.  It is like Russians can always only do bad but Americans or Europeans can not and they are the saviors.  Do people even realize how contradictory and confusing this is to someone with a neutral set of mind?

We are in the middle of a very strong war of information and interests.  I sometimes feel like I am living in the middle of a Zombie apocalypse.  Everyone seems to blindly support whatever they see is trendy and considered 'the right way of thinking' without even thinking for real anymore.  They are feeding us exactly the way we have to think and we are gladly eating their food.  But there is no more food for thought anymore.  Some stock exchanges allow only closing Russian stock positions and selling but then if we are only allowed to sell, who are we selling to?  For the last part, I may have understood this the wrong way.  Has anyone been through this and can confirm you can close positions AND sell?

Russia is getting sanctions over sanctions, their economy is drowned.  This ultimately affects all of us, not just Russians.  It affects just the average humans, not the upper class, and we tend to forget this.  They have jets, they have money, they have influence.  They can get over it, but the average human lives paycheck to paycheck.  Now I see a xenophobia similar to the way humans perceived Asian people back in 2020.  There is a huge hate of Russians worldwide right now, and it gets worse.  The hatred is cheered and fed by almost the entire world.  But once again, the ones to suffer will be the average Russians who have nothing to do with what is currently going on in Ukraine.

There were so many wars before, and in most of them the United States always seemed to be implicated.  Yet nobody wore the affected country's flags, nobody wanted to offer refugees a home, a bed or food to eat.  How all of a sudden everyone wants to help out Ukraine is a big food for thought for me.  I have been told they were different, but how exactly?  How do we define a war that is good and one that is bad if we never cared about civilians losing lives before but now suddenly we do?

I will add the virus situation in the middle of all of this.  Two weeks ago we were fearing a virus nobody seems to care about anymore.  Protests are now allowed, gatherings of soldiers are just fine, it is like there is no virus to fear anymore.  I have even heard multiple times that the pandemic has been over since the middle of March.  Wait, what?!  What is going on really?  How is it over when only two weeks ago everyone seemed to still fear a Covid infection?  When did we get over a pandemic?!

This all already has such a strong impact over all of us and our lives, but we are too preoccupied with what the media is feeding our brains.  I definitely do not support and or want a war but this will ultimately turn into a giant global crisis, maybe one we have never seen in history before.

You seem to forget that Russia started this and Europe is mearly responding.

Ughh, see now we're back to discussing what constitutes "starting" and whether third country's diplomatic mission actively coming out on the streets to directly support a coupe/revolution should now be considered an acceptable diplomatic practice? If so im sure Chinese could spare few billions to sponsor Occupy Wall Street, BLM, yellow vest, truck blockades and all of the future "greassroot" movements

You damn well know that by "starting" I mean invading.

That goes for you too jojo.

I think Ukrainians should attack and fight back harder. Exterminate without hesitation. No more cease fires and just kill the vermin.  Roll Eyes  Cool  Roll Eyes

People are fighting like lions for their country, but they lack weapons that can adequately counter a far superior army. However, the situation has changed a lot since the arrival of weapons donations from EU countries, and the Russian Air Force no longer flies so safely since the Ukrainians began to mass-destroy their helicopters and military aircraft.

There is a lot of videos where it is seen that there is no mercy towards enemies, nor should there be. A Russian convoy more than 60km long that got stuck on the road to Kyiv will become the longest graveyard of military vehicles, as Ukrainians trapped them by destroying vehicles at the beginning and end of the convoy, and their tour is blocked by wet soil that prevents heavy vehicles from moving.

The same Ukranian mud that stopped Hitler is now stopping Putin, you would think they would know.

Personally I don't see how EVs will be viable if gas prices continue to go crazy (gas is used for much of electricity generation in Europe). Running them will cost as much as filling up with petrol soon and they cost far more to buy, so what is the point?

Once things settle down (and I think they probably will) towards the end of the year we could see major lift in the economies and a new ATH for BTC.

Maybe it will accelerate the use of renewables??
Not so sure about things settling down either?
Remember when the world war 1 started? Many thought that it would be all over by Christmas 2014!

To have a chance to fully understand all this, you have to go way back, to the times around WW1.
You will probably see why it's best to not take any sides.
Narratives are stronger than facts (did i say that before?)
We may evolve beyond this, i'd suggest after some thousand years, at best.
Our brains are too small to withstand narratives, which make us stop thinking, or think less.
The good news: We have evolved so far that we are able to identify problems. Now we have to take the bigger step to be able to solve them, without causing more problems.
Maybe the 90% of our brain potential most of us don't use (according to Albert Einstein) would come in handy...

The loop is tightened around the neck of the regime in Kiev. Justice will be served very soon!

You may be right judging by the one and a half million refugees (mainly women and children) that have fled the war and invasion.

Ordinary people like me and you, their lives destroyed.

What sort of justice will be served then?

Executions of the elected government officials to be replaced by Russian appointed stooges.

May not end soon either, near where I live military jets have been active all night long and again today above cloud cover.

Perhaps testing F16s in readiness to hand over to Poland in exchange for the MiG-29s and Su-25s donated to Ukraine?

Or preparing for a no fly zone?

The Europeans will get dragged into this war one way or another and not by choice while America will eventually be forced to under NATO obligations.

There are no winners!

Germany is sending 2700 'Strela' anti aircraft missiles to Ukraine.
They are Soviet made and were used by the east german military, and are apparently still in stock.
Oh the irony.

They are probably a bit outdated now, but should still be good against helicopters and slow aircraft.

Heyyyy.... Guys..... How is everyone doing tonight? Good? Good.

Ima just leave this here...

The Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Fire has already broke out. If it blows up, it will be 10 times larger than Chernobyl.

Do you guys think the extermination of life on earth will affect the Bitcoin price? Proudhon?

Anyway, if Im going out, Im going out on 100 tabs of acid. Gotta arrive at the pearly gates tripping my balls off.

Calm down everyone.  Chernobyl blew up from within because nearly  e v e r y   s i n g l e  safety system was defeated manually by human hands in order to perform a poorly designed test and the fuel was encased in carbon (as a moderator).  It blew up due to a runaway fission process and and the extreme energy and heat created.  It continued to burn because... that's what carbon does.

The reactors at Zaporizhzhia are pressurized light water reactors (meaning they use water as a moderator).  Also, each of the 6 reactors is encased in structure built from over 2 meters of steel reinforced concrete which can withstand a direct hit from a 747.  The safety systems are much more robust than those of Chernobyl.

It would be good if some stray bullets don't kill the guys trained to operate the reactor though.  Personally, I'm more worried about the safety of the good people of Ukraine from Putin's onslaught.

Yes, and they are probably targeting the generators in order to shut down the grid.

I am a baby of the relatively stable MAD era, can't really think of the alternatives.

Welp, the guy sounds like a moron to me. It literally doesn't matter how fast the ballistic missiles are and saying we would have no response if Russia attacked is pure bullshit.

The guy is fearmongering with lies. I'm sure the gaslit folks will buy it hook line and sinker but anyone else should know its a load of crap.

... I wonder if you've ever considered where Russia might be thinking of for a potential Poseidon deployment? ... not any land-locked countries, most likely an Island nation? or continental coastline? with a major CBD center, and on an estuary ... like London? or Amsterdam? or New York? or the Potomac?

... not that I would want any of that to happen but you've got to think practically about these things if you go to war, "cross red lines", steal people's money, blockade their trade, etc, etc ... what are your opponents capabilities, strengths, weaknesses, etc?

... not fearmongering but screaming "lies, lies, lies" in panicked denial is a sure recipe to get blind-sided by a superior military power

... why do you think NATO(USA) has been pushing so hard to get it's missiles so close to Russia, like in Ukraine literally on Russia's border? ... maybe because Russia has developed capability to bring down any missiles launched from further out, rendering most of ICBM fleet useless?

I've tried to inform friends and family like this as well (so understand the frustration), the younger generations simply don't understand the destructive capabilities of these types of weapons, or when they do start to understand their confidence snaps and they lash out by dismissing it completely because it makes no sense. Anyone who has done ABC (Atomic Biological Chemical) warfare training in military, or grew up during the cold war will at least be partially aware of this.

Some common examples of ignorance and general info...

People look at the impact radius and think of a nuclear weapon as a huge conventional bomb totally ignoring the long term radiation part. For example, you can knock out a city like New York with 50-100 megaton yield, but depending on height of the detonation and elements used in the core you can make that area uninhabitable for thousands of years (radioactive half-life of the elements), meaning any survivors trying to move into this area will get cancer from the radiation and die within weeks, complete DNA breakdown in effect preventing generation of new healthy cells in the body.

You have the neutron bomb which was specifically designed to be detonated at high(er) altitude to create an EMP blast which knocks out all electronics for hours, kills people through heat and radiation waves, but leaves buildings relatively intact and free from radiation.

Biological weapons are risky to use for the military because it can move with weather/wind and hit own troops, but perhaps not when used on a whole continent with enemies. Thinking of the current covid pandemic with like ~1% death rate among the elderly, instead imagine something like Ebola weaponized which has 90% death rate.

Anyone who has done VX (and similar) nerve gas training (chemical weapons) can tell you only one tiny drop of the stuff anywhere on your skin is enough to lock the body in complete spasms within seconds causing lungs and heart muscles to cramp up leading to death. The only way out of the cramp is to quickly use atropin which might end the cramp spasm (it's not 100% effective), the auto injector used for atropin can penetrate thick army clothes and even items in your pockets, it's designed this way because you only have seconds to administer before it's too late. Perhaps you remember the famous false flag operation in Syria about chemical weapons being used in Duma, where the CNN reporter picks up a piece of cloth from the ground and starts sniffing it and proclaims it smells weird so must be chemical weapons, it's comically bad (staged) for the reasons mentioned previously.

This info is dated, surely there are worse things out there now. There seems to be no lack of innovation when it comes to killing people and deliberately destroying the earth.

It's like 25 years since it was called ABC, it's CBRN now, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear. Same thing, new name.

A bit unclear who they are going to fire them at though.
