421  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 09, 2014, 09:29:51 PM

If you discount GHash.io having the world's largest private mining farm, BTC Guild is nearly 1 PH/s ahead of their POOL.  Basically the only network share BTC Guild has lost has been the share of the network taken by the PRIVATE side of GHash.io.  ~20% of the entire network is privately controlled by GHash.io's private farm based on their post that stated 45% of their pool is their private farm, meaning instead of BTC Guild competing with other pools for roughly 85% of mining capacity (large private farms+solo miners were ~15% of the network before GHash.io), it is competing for roughly 65% of mining capacity.  Essentially 35% of the network pie chart is off limits, and BTC Guild has a little over a third of the network hash rate that can be obtained.

BTC Guild has continued to grow roughly in line with the other pools, which, discounting private farms, would mean it has not lost it's share of the public network.

Isn't the private part owned by people, who trade it on cex.io?
The only difference being I own my miners and they own just the hashrate (cloud hashing)?

422  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 09, 2014, 09:27:32 PM
in my opinion the #1 reason for people using Ghash.io is the lack of fees, which made the pool so big.

I disagree.  People tend to glom onto the larger/largest hashrate pool(s) with the assumption that they must be doing something right, regardless of fee's.  I believe that has been proven out by Deepbit's past success.

That might be true, but still people do not ignore the fee element and would use it to decide where to mine.
Also back in 2011 there was no pool even close to DeepBit size that was free.
I used to mine in DeepBit and then if I remember correctly I switched to BTCMine, which was by invitation only.

My prediction is that if BTCGuild does not lower fees it will continue to lose position within the total network speed share.

Again, I disagree.  Saying BTCGuild is loosing network share isn't a completely honest statement.  BTCGuild is NOT loosing hashrate.  I'm not even sure BTCGuild is loosing it's network percentage, but I haven't been keeping tabs on that so I don't really know.  It's just smaller than GHash at the moment.

My comment is based on the https://blockchain.info/pools?timespan=24hrs pie chart.
BTCGuild and Ghash.io used to be equal and now Ghash.io is more than double BTCGuild (40% vs 16%)
From where I am standing Ghash.io has significantly increased its share of the total network speed.
423  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hacking The KNC Firmware: Overclocking on: January 09, 2014, 06:45:45 PM
642GH/s with 8VRMs here.
Been running like that for almost 2 weeks.

how? I was a bit premature, running fine for about 10mins then just stared getting HW increase and cores shutting off.
Only Running 1F1 - 800MHZ

Sheer luck - that is my best performing October Jupiter.
Using only 211, so 850Mhz.
HW errors are really low too: 0.56%

why does Cex/Ghash not respond to all that 51% panic?Huh It`s what worries me the most.
Dear CEX.IO/Ghash.IO users.
Here is an official statement: https://ghash.io/ghashio_press_release.pdf

Doesn't load for me.

I can't fathom how some of you are even managing to push the cables to their limit. I run GPUs which each pull more wattage chan the KNC power boards, and they're not getting that hot. Blow a fan across them or something?? My KNC unit's cables don't even get that hot. All my dies run without issue.

Are you guys far-overclocking them or something?

I'm ready to see news of Neptunes coming.

Give it 3-4 months, you'll get news.

Why would you assume you pull more current with GPUs?
How much do you think you use?
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 09, 2014, 03:47:29 PM
Apologies for the late reply.
That is correct, all cables are rated 80 degrees Celsius for testing. You can withstand temparature up to 80 degrees Celsius with any issues.

Kind regards,

Michiel Bos

Thats handy to know, one would assume that most of the other big desktop brands Corsair, Antec, Seasonic etc would be roughly the same

Most probably yes, but I would not advise anyone to run their cables at above 50C.
Mine were reaching 48 during the day, so I just installed a fan to blow onto them which lowered the temp to 38C.
428  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 09, 2014, 02:50:52 PM
Eleuthria, might you considering lowering your pool fees temporarily to incentivise more people to get off ghash.io and onto your pool ?
Lowering fees temporarily just to lure new people is a bit sneaky.

Fair point. Bad knee-jerk suggestion brought on by this ghash.io nearing 51% craziness.

I hope I don't get my posts deleted for making valid observations, but in my opinion the #1 reason for people using Ghash.io is the lack of fees, which made the pool so big.
My prediction is that if BTCGuild does not lower fees it will continue to lose position within the total network speed share.
At the end of the day people are greedy by nature and so would very much pay nothing, than anything. And in this case they also get even lower variance and steady payouts for paying nothing.
On top of that luck has been great too for the last couple of days.

Sorry to spam the thread but reddit has not turned the tide

Still growing, pool speed up from 4.16PH to 4.61PH over last 2 work shifts (8 mins each).  Perhaps they'll reach 51% by the weekend ?

doesn't the bitcoin foundation stop any pool from hitting 51%?

I'm not sure but didn't BTC Guild or 50BTC stop new registrations a few months back when they nearly reached 51%?

or wouldn't GHash.io stop themselves as 51% could potentially destroy bitcoin and/or devalue bitcoin?

DeepBit had over 51% in 2011 and nothing happened...

Btw someone might be interested in my communication with CoolerMaster:

Question:

Quote
Maximum safe temperature for PCI-E cables: I have a Cooler Master V850 to power a specific hardware that is using 4
PCI-E cables with a total DC power consumption of around 700W.
So each PCI-E cable is drawing around 175W or a current of 14.5А.
My main concern is that the cables near the PSU reach a temperature of
45-46 degrees. Then again the markings on the cables says 80 degrees,
which I assume is the maximum safe temperature?

So is a temperature of 46 degrees on the outside of the hottest cable safe?

Thank you.

Lowering fees temporarily just to lure new people is a bit sneaky.
How would you feel if a business changed something that enticed you to switch and then removed it?

He can either lower the fees permanently to stay competitive or leave them as it is.
432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Steal coins from unencrypted wallet after encryption on: January 08, 2014, 10:10:33 PM
So instead of testing out if a thief have a copy I will just create a new one and transfer the NMC there.
Yes, this has to be the safest way, move the coins to a new wallet that is properly secured  Smiley

The coins are still at the pool and my dilema was to either use the old wallet (nostalgia seeing all these transactions from 2011) or a new one.

I am so paranoid sometimes, which in the Bitcoin world is a good thing  Grin

433  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hacking The KNC Firmware: Overclocking on: January 08, 2014, 10:08:35 PM

I still can't figure out how to even get into the miner to change the code. Once I ssh into the miner, how do I download the config files to edit them? Jesus I'm a newb.

You don't download the file locally. You use vi (visual editor) to edit it remotely.
I will advice people to do some research, instead of following instructions blindly.
It is so much better to know what exactly you are doing and it is not very difficult to understand it either.
Just use Google.
434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Steal coins from unencrypted wallet after encryption on: January 08, 2014, 10:05:23 PM
Thank you guys.
I have an old NMC wallet from 2011, which is probably safe, but one cannot be 100% sure.
So instead of testing out if a thief have a copy I will just create a new one and transfer the NMC there.

I have one die running 950MHz  (251)  for over a month.
Most others are way slower though.

Amps and average temp for that die?
436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Steal coins from unencrypted wallet after encryption on: January 08, 2014, 08:00:16 PM
Yes.

This is why its important to shred unencrypted wallet backups after they have been replaced with the encrypted version.

Coins are not stored in the wallet, only private keys with their corresponding public key.

If the private key that is linked to coins is compromised, the coins can be spent.

I am aware of what the wallet contains, but when you encrypt your wallet you get a message that the old wallet will no longer work.
After some brief research I found that it prunes the entire pool of private keys and create a new one after encrypting, which is confusing to me.

 Huh Huh Huh

Talking of reseller accounts, does anyone know if there is a limit to how many you can sell?

Yes, 585385 Neptunes only.
438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Steal coins from unencrypted wallet after encryption on: January 08, 2014, 05:08:02 PM
Imagine the following scenario: a thief had managed to steal an unencrypted wallet long time ago, which I now decide to encrypt and use.
If he doesn't know the encryption password, but has the same wallet from before encrypting it, can he spend any coins that I put in the wallet after encrypting it?

Thank you.

440  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3100 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 08, 2014, 03:20:35 AM
You'll never have proof of work per block because the pool does not track it since PPLNS has no need to care about individual block rounds.  No matter how much you bitch, it isn't going to happen because I'm not going to add an entirely new table to the database and extra scripts to try to guess how many shares went into an individual block just to track shit for you.

I am not so egocentric to expect you to "track shit" for me.
Are you so close-minded to think that I am the only person who would enjoy this feature?
Surprise yourself and check if your customers would approve of such an addition by running a poll on your website.

Btw are you running out of processing power on the servers to add such a table or is it more of a financial issue  Roll Eyes

If the pool luck stats are accurate, they are pretty remarkable over the last month.

Approximate Pool Luck* (24H / 3D / 1W / 2W / 1M): 107.772% / 118.783% / 111.486% / 106.586% / 104.237%

Why would you assume they are inaccurate?
