441  Economy / Lending / Re: Dream Islands banking and loans [sell off] on: July 20, 2012, 10:05:43 AM
tl;dr: Nothing to sell besides a name and a bad loan

Maybe it's time to put things to a close on this. It's not in a state where a sell off is guaranteed at this point.By trying to do something,a person can learn what works and what doesn't.Clearly the sell off will not work in this environment (or current condition of the venture).I can see where this is going. Some businesses were just nothing more than a name with a few things attached to it and they were successful, others like this need a rethink/draw to a close.

Did I mention that the proceeds were going to good causes.
442  Economy / Lending / Re: Dream Islands banking and loans [sell off] on: July 20, 2012, 09:45:14 AM
Your post above did not answer my question.  What specifically are your selling?

This quote is rather interesting:

Quote
As for a detailed description, well I haven't really prepared one yet

How can you expect people to be interested in buying something from you when you cannot tell them what it is?  And:

Quote
It's probably best If I let the buyers bid...

How can we bid on something when we do not know what it is?  "It is a loan business" is not specific enough.

It sounds like maybe you have a loan and/or deposit portfolio (not sure by your answers).  Let me try to be more specific:

Exactly how many BTC do you have on deposit.  In other words exactly how many BTC have people loaned to you?

How many people have deposits with you?

What is the average daily, weekly or monthly interest rate you are paying for these deposits?

Now, how many BTC do you have out in loans?  In other words exactly how many BTC do you have currently loaned out to other people?

How many loans have you made?

How many active loans do you currently own?

What is average the daily, weekly or monthly interest rate you are charging on these loans?

What is your average default rate on the loans in your portfolio?

This will give me an idea of exactly how much your business is worth.  If you actually have something to sell I may be interested in buying the entire portfolio for one lump sum.

But, I have to see your books first.

OK.With those specific points,I can be clearer in my answers I hope.
1.This venture is called the Dream Islands banking and loans. Originally the banking part simply consisted of an escrow for hire (for a small fee) for clients that request this. There are 2 parts to this venture.Banking (features that people can use) and lending (lend money to people who need it).
2.There are no BTCs on deposit as this is not a savings bank with interest bearing on the money people put in as.
3.No interest is paid since this is not a savings bank. (it was originally called a bank due to time saving features for the user such as escrow, transaction mediation-helps keep the scammer issue to a minimum if requested.etc)
4.For the history of the lending (part that I wish to sell off and keep the banking for now),Loans were sent to two people who requested them:
a.gorgo1 of 2BTC-Repaid me early (would be a good customer if he needs one again)
b.TheLastDovah-Lent 4BTC (owed 5BTC),interest bearing loan.Didn't repay the loan at all.in short this is a bad loan.
No loans are currently loaned out due to the fact that there is no money available to lend due to the defaulter.(I'll need to find a way to boost the venture). There is a policy to keep the available to lend BTC small so that it doesn't bankrupt me or whoever decides to buy the venture from bad loans.
5.I've only made 2 loans so far.
6.I don't have any active loans at the moment
7.In response to your daily, weekly, monthly interest rate on loans point, let me just say that I usually charge interest by the week.In special cases,it'll be a case by case basis.
8.The default rate is an issue at the moment.1 loan was repaid successfully and 1 defaulted.

The info above should give an idea of the current situation with the lending venture (it doesn't look too good). I also hope to give a statement of the vision I have for this venture so this gives buyers (or part buyers) a better idea of what the potential could be with this venture. If things improve (ie with 1 part buyer/changed venture forecast), I can then work with my part buyer (or whoever is interested in it) to make things work well.

I hope this helps you.

443  Economy / Lending / Re: Dream Islands banking and loans [sell off] on: July 19, 2012, 10:58:13 PM
What, exactly, are you selling?  A portfolio of loans?  An operating business of some sort?  Where can I find a detailed description of what you are selling so I can determine if I want to buy it?
I was hoping to sell off my loans business to a new owner or new part owners. This is a loans business.Since I am unable to keep on top of things (too many things to manage at once) I figured that I might as well either sell it off or just close it (depending on how things go really). At this point I've figured that I'd simply sell off what I can and anything I can't sell off right away (I mean it's not realistic to expect this to happen overnight).

As for a detailed description, well I haven't really prepared one yet but be assured that in the coming days (or a fortnight or so),there will be a better description that will help explain better what it is that I wish to do with this loans business.

In reality since it's too soon to expect a complete sell off overnight,I may as well give other options of part ownership to interested buyers.I hope this answers your question BurtW.If you have any further questions/queries/comments/(contructive) criticism, feel free to reply here (or PM me if you need to)

Goals:
1.Sell off part ownership so that it's easier for interested buyers to test the waters and to try things out-I can keep the price low for part ownership because of the flexibility of this option. If the person doesn't like it within the cooling off period (30 days) ,all they need to do is ask me for a refund and I'll sort that out for the buyer. Smiley
2.Restructure the business and see if things can get progress further-change the way things are run, etc.
3.See if a sell off can help this venture succeed while giving more time to work on other projects. If not,I'll see if other ideas can be followed.

At this point,I've probably confused you a little with my answers but at this point (step 1),I'm selling part ownership as that's easier for both me and the buyer to manage. So in essence ,I'm selling off part ownership of my loans business to interested buyers. It's probably best If I let the buyers bid (minimum bid will be determined at the time auction is ready) how much they want to pay to own 15% initially (if the buyer wants a smaller stake in this, the price will reflect this and therefore be lower) of the loans business.

444  Economy / Lending / Re: Dream Islands banking and loans [SELL off] on: July 19, 2012, 08:02:40 PM
Update:Due to recent changes in my circumstances,I'll have to sell off as much as possible of the Dream Islands lending (BTC) venture due to the fact that I no longer have enough time to manage all my ventures on top of filmmaking work for other people, investing, etc. So long story short,I'm willing to sell off this venture as soon as I can.I also hope to spend time in more fruitful projects like giving back to the community (where I grew up and people who helped me along the way to be a filmmaker plus contribute to good causes while I'm at it.) Smiley

This will be a 5 step plan:
1.Sell off 15% of the ownership first,to get the ball rolling (so to speak)
2.Move onto selling off 45% of the venture (someone who is a larger buyer will get a bulk discount doing this rather than buying 15% chunks of it)
3.Sell off the rest to an interested buy
4.Finalise all sales so that interested buyers will have good records that the sale has taken place and that no dispute will occur later on.
5.Send a e-document to all that contains essential information about this venture, buyers rights (reinforces step 4 really) and other stuff.

P.S Can it be possible to move/split this sale thread so it doesn't confuse readers on here? Thanks

445  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] Auction off my signature space for 1 month on: July 19, 2012, 07:41:54 PM
Auction is now extended and will now finish at the end of this month.Coinabul I contacted you about your offer (where i'd agree to sell my sig space to someone who replied to your thread) but you haven't replied to me (in the relevant thread and via PM) yet.A response would be helpful.
446  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How to solo mine LTC on: July 19, 2012, 10:54:52 AM
I'm looking into solo mining LTC on all my CPUs/GPUs between my 2 computers (PC and MBP).Question is what settings should I use for CPU scrypt miner and in reaper?Any help would be appreciated. It's mostly like what host, port and other settings I should use? What about port forwarding? How can I tell if my computers are solo mining successfully?

Also how much LTC is in a block? As solo mining only works well when blocks can be generated easily (low diff).

Thanks.

447  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] Auction off my signature space for 1 month on: July 18, 2012, 09:40:15 PM
I can't seem to edit posts on here but each bid goes up by 0.05BTC 10 LTC increments to help the auction process.Any takers?
448  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] Auction off my signature space for 1 month on: July 18, 2012, 09:35:18 PM
Starting bid now reduced to 0.05 BTC or 10 LTC. Smiley
449  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: (3 BTC bounty) What laptop should I buy? on: July 18, 2012, 10:38:28 AM
I found a possible Option.I know it's HP but I'm sure it can deliver.

http://www.amazon.com/HP-Folio-13-1020US-13-3-Inch-Ultrabook/dp/tech-data/B006OEL86Q/ref=de_a_smtd

Specs (from amazon.com):

    Intel Core™ i5-2467M (1.60 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache)
    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 SODIMM slot)
    128 GB Solid State Drive
    13.3" diagonal LED-backlit HD BrightView (1366 x 768), Intel HD Graphics 3000
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 9 hours Battery Life
    Wifi 11/b/g/n support

Pros:
Just under budget at around $1000
Reasonable specs
Long battery life at 9 hours
Since this is a PC based laptop (unlike my MBP),it's relatively straightforward for installing ubuntu.

Cons:
A little on the hefty side at 3.3lbs compared to other people's options on this forum.Channg how heavy can the ultrabook be for your needs before it becomes too much to carry? If this is too heavy then please ignore this option and I'll help find another option.
450  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Need help] Setup Reaper (GPU) miner on my laptop on: July 17, 2012, 10:46:19 PM
Try aggression 18 or 19 for hashing speed.

Try increasing number of threads-per-gpu to 4.  This might help with stales.  I average about 3% stale.  Higher than I'd like, but it's about the lowest I can seem to get.

Try worksize 128 instead of 256 if you haven't already.  Not sure if this will help or not for your gpu.

I've tested the worksize of 128/256 and no difference.Only thing is increasing no of threads per GPU to 4 boosted performance.Aggression I'll have to test next time I'm back in win 7 on my MBP as I'm booted normally at the moment.Due to the unfavourable conditions I experienced on my MBP while in Win 7 I'll consider wrapping things up if I see no improvement in the setup by the end of this week. Aggression I have to really careful with because of the BSOD issue caused by having it too high before. It seems to me that anything above maybe 15,will put me back in square one. All things you mentioned are worth a shot though.
451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Need help] Setup Reaper (GPU) miner on my laptop on: July 17, 2012, 09:48:26 PM
Update-Thanks to someone (whos name I forget) on the Litecoin IRC channel on free node I think.I managed to get Reaper running.

Then these things happened:
1.laptop kept crashing and BSOD kept occuring. STOP 0x00000116 with nviddmkm.sys file I think. This happened after updating to the latest drivers for my video card. I reduced aggression from 21 default to 10 in the config.Fixed this issue.
2.I'm now getting lots of stales after starting GPU mining LTC.I need help in solving this. Since fixing the BSOd issues.
3.Nvidia GT330M GPU performs much slower than my laptops CPU and produces nothing but stales whereas my CPU produces nothing but good shares.
452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [Need help] Setup Reaper (GPU) miner on my laptop on: July 17, 2012, 06:04:37 PM
Hi guys, this is like my other thread '[Need help] Setup reaper (gpu) miner for my main PC' but since I'm having a rather hard time with reaper on both my systems and both computers have completely different hardware/system config,I've had to make another thread dedicated to my laptop to keep things on track in my other thread.

Issues are:
1.Reaper v13 beta 4 Keeps freezing after spending a ridiculous amount of time waiting for it's  'compiling'.Well after 2 mins and no CPU/HDD intensive processes were ever run during that time.
2.What's the idea setup for an Nvidia GT330M GPU for the config files? Has 48 shaders.
3.What setup is most likely to be trouble free on my MBP when booted in win 7? That'll just work.
4.Reaper constantly uses up all my ram (RAM use went from 955Mb to 8GB,then crashing my MBP due to RAM running out, despite having a swap and using readyboost as well)

I'm losing valuable time to the other GPU LTC miners because of these damn faults and crashes and I'm losing out.
If someone can reach the creator of reaper, please tell them to reach me asap as I need them to code either a workaround or release a less buggy version.
I intend to get as many of my systems mining LTC as possible including Desktop PC (with HD6950),MacBook Pro,N900 phone (once the coder I spoke to gets it out for maemo 5 after he finishes coding it for android and can be bothered to give me download link for its installer)

Any help would be appreciated thanks. Smiley
453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PSA : Final Litecoin LTC GPU miner released !!! on: July 17, 2012, 04:36:31 PM
Hi guys
Do you know what the best config for LTC mining is for this card:
Nvidia GT330M on a MBP booted into Win 7 (via bootcamp)?

As I've been trying to get reaper to work on as many computers as I can to mine for me.CPU mining works well on there.I get around 25KH/s from it's CPU (Core i7 620m) and now I want to tap into the GPU simultaneously.Which settings reduce GPU use so I can still have a responsive desktop without my MBP freezing and screen turning black whenever any GPU intensive app is run?

All help is appreciated. Smiley
454  Economy / Securities / Re: (TyGrr) TyGrr Tech on: July 17, 2012, 12:33:16 PM
I like the look of this setup. How do I buy a share for your company on these forums? How much does a share cost currently? Or is GLBSE the way to go?
455  Other / Off-topic / Re: Redshift | Good for those who stare at computer screens all day on: July 17, 2012, 11:21:22 AM
Tip for mac users who want this feature.Download an app called Shades from here:http://www.charcoaldesign.co.uk/shades
For most mac users, you can download either the intel or universal binaries as this'll make your life a lot easier (unless you're stuck with a Power PC based mac before 2008)
Tried out shades so far I'm loving it.No more sleep troubles from an overly bright LCD. Smiley
456  Other / Off-topic / Re: I think I have a severe case of Bitcoinitis - help! on: July 17, 2012, 11:01:37 AM
I also have these symptoms of bitcoinitis OP.
Add a new one:The desire to mine on literally any device regardless of cost of mining on said devices.I'm talking about, laptops, smartphones, router (as it can be modded),Smart TV (with modded firmware),internet cafe computers etc in addition to my own desktop PC.

Mine both currencies BTC (on GPUs) and LTC (CPUs) of all respective devices I mentioned to maximise returns at any cost.Lol. Grin

Wow.That must have been quite an ordeal Phinnaeus Gage.I hope things get better for you.Glad you're free and out of jail. Smiley

I think it was smart that you never mentioned Bitcoins to the police officer as that sounds suspicious to them (they'll never get it around their heads lol.)

458  Economy / Gambling / Re: mem's BITCOIN GAMBLING LIST on: July 16, 2012, 10:08:54 PM
Sorry to trouble you mem,but the information for the new and improved version of my gambling venture needs updating.
The new main thread is here:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=90059.0
Website has been updated:http://film2240.webs.com/dreamislandsgames.htm

All other info is mentioned in this thread.
Changes made:
1.Improvements to the winner selection system now make use of SHA1,md5 and an unspecified combo to really improve the fairness of the results (based on a blockchain hybrid system for fairness and redundancy)[Major improvement form a simple random generator]
2.Litecoin players can now enter.
3.More types of games.
4.Minimum bet (for cheapest game) is still 0.05BTC or 10 LTC
5.Lottery is now 0.1BTC-Round 2.
6.You can now gamble for good causes and still win money for yourself. This makes you both a winner, the good cause of your choice and you.1/3 of winnings go to good causes and 2/3 go to you.Winner gets to decide where 1/3 goes to.

More to come. Smiley

460  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: AMD Raden HD 6500/5600/5700 only generating 40 mHashes on: July 16, 2012, 09:23:51 PM
if OPs card is a HD 6570,trying these flags might help:-v -w128 -f1
Type this in the flags section of GUIMiner as written.

Also using the latest version of GUIMiner can help boost performance due to optimisations as well. Overclocking that card (core clock) should help boost your hash power.Memory clocks should be lowered due to the fact that Bitcoin mining makes little use of how fast the memory is running at,it's more to do with the GPU itself.

Even if you do manage to squeeze some extra performanec, the hash power you get isn't really worth it unless you have free electricity. If you are able, get yourself a better GPU.Look at the list of popular configurations on that mining hardware comparison as it'll tell you which cards are particularly good at mining. If a card is not in that section,it's probably because it isn't the best option for mining due to the hashpower they give for the price,or they use a lot of energy for the hash power given from that card.

I hope this all helps you (and all the replies here). Smiley
