486  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there a true 'bank' for bitcoin? on: March 02, 2015, 05:35:30 AM
Well, most places offering "guaranteed" interest are just ponzis.
I think that Bitcoin's anonymity prevents as much security in lending to allow this.

Secondly, I don't think the loan volume would be enough for any major lenders to need to take deposits to lend out

489  Economy / Gambling / Re: Challenge: What's the best way to win 1 BTC with 1 BTC? on: January 29, 2015, 05:12:14 AM
Compare any gambling strategy to simply holding 1 Bitcoin for 6 months.  Chances are best you will double your money that way.

Oh really ? I didn't know that holding one bitcoin would make it two bitcoins as specifically asked by the OP.

My questions are is there anything that can be done about this? Is it possible to track this kind of behavior? What is the appropriate way to report this kind of activity?

I doubt there would be anything that could be done. Sure, this can be tracked by admins, but theymos has said before that a user's IP address would not be revealed unless forced by law.

I would say that it is pretty likely that mods/admins are aware of this (people who spend a significant chunk of their time moderating user are likely to have noticed this) and spreading awareness of this problem may actually hinder rather than help (more people will realize the effectiveness of this and might try to use this method).
492  Other / Meta / Re: Ponzi's on Bitcointalk.org on: January 03, 2015, 05:36:18 PM
I'd normally be cynical about a claim like that too, but since he had very little posts and did not ask for donations I judged it to be a true story from somebody who just wanted to share their utter disappointment. I can always be mistaken of course. Whatever it may be, I'm sure cases like that do occur. People are just to gullible.

Well, if he had "very little posts" wouldn't it be more likely that he was trying to beg for donations later ?
What if he was doing it as a competitor trying to defame ?
In this anonymous scene, you should never assume that anyone is sharing a true story, unless they have proper proof (or trusted by you yourself to a huge degree).

Secondly, there is nothing such as a risk-less investment. The idea that someone invested money in order to "earn money for medicine for his dad" is just a bad idea.
Investing is a bad idea. (atleast if you have no knowledge of what you are investing in)

I've put your signature, but I'm unwilling to keep it for anything less than 20 TH/s initial mining power. (It will increase at double the rate !)

I'm going to cloudmine so many BTCs Cheesy
495  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a loan despite negative trust status on: December 28, 2014, 09:20:05 AM
Their accusations make sense.

Why do you need this loan if you can already afford whatever you want to do ? Trust-building is highly frowned upon.
496  Other / Meta / Re: How about a cloud mining sub-forum? on: December 27, 2014, 08:34:22 PM
I disagree with this.
Cloud mining is not as different in its application/sale as compared to other services (We can split Marketplace into Digital goods because it caters to a different audience, but not exactly needed here). Would it even be very full ? One page of a forum has 40 threads, atleast on my screen, would it make sense to make a separate subforum for cloud mining which would most likely take up barely a page under the one thread per company rule ?

Secondly and more importantly, what if Cloud Mining doesn't stay as popular as it is today ? Ponzis were a dominant force in the Gambling subforum once and people asked for a new subforum everywhere. But now that they are dead, it would have been extremely foolhardy to create a new subforum for them. Instead of ending up with a couple of slightly active pages, we could end up with a completely dead subforum and what then.

To be honest, I would have said that Cloud mining belongs in the Securities section, wherein the target audience would be quite similar(In both cases the buyer wants to invest their BTC), but regardless, a new subforum doesn't really help.

While I agree that Cloud mining is essentially service I also find it a different kind of specialized service. It is new service boom and a LOT of new companies want to try and host cloud mining services.
New forum section could only help finding and accessing those deals. So I would advocate to create cloud mining section.

Read what I've said earlier.

We can make a hundred new service sections. Signature campaigns ? Okay sure. Scripts for websites ? Why not add that too.

I mean literally, these two (sig campaigns and scripts/website building) are more talked about in the first page of Services.

Way before we choose to do this for cloud mining, we have to do this for others and quite honestly, neither of these alone is distinguished enough to warrant its own subforum. I've said this before and I reiterate :- How would it make sense if all the cloud mining threads together took under a page, but consisted of their own empty subforum ? What happens when cloud mining becomes less popular ?
497  Other / Meta / Re: Time to Move Bitcoin 2.0 tech (Counterparty/Mastercoin) out of "Alt Coins" on: December 25, 2014, 05:20:45 AM
I really don't see what differentiates counterparty and mastercoin from other altcoins hence why I don't think they deserve their own subforum. As was already mentioned, putting your transaction data into the Bitcoin blockchain doesn't make your coin Bitcoin, it's still an altcoin. That doesn't mean those altcoins are useless, but they're not Bitcoin and they're not Bitcoin 2.0.

By the way, discussion about how an altcoin affects or differs from Bitcoin may be posted on subforums other than alternate cryptocurrencies, so discussions about blockchain bloat caused by altcoins are allowed outside of the altcoin section.

Read just this old topic. Can someone explain what then is Bitcoin 2.0, if not something like Counterparty and Mastercoin? Can you give examples what that have and what not.

"Bitcoin 2.0" is what altcoins call themselves to convince people that the altcoin in question is different from the thousands of other altcoins when in fact it is just another clone.

499  Other / Meta / Re: Why was the Newbie-Only Section deleted? on: December 24, 2014, 07:28:02 PM
Was it removed of it being unfair to users?

Pretty much. I'm 50/50 on whether it should return or was a good idea getting rid of it. It never really stopped scammers or spammers as anyone determined would just bide their short time whilst it still punished casual or newcommer users.

My vote would be on a warning akin to the scammer tag. It would be in eye-catching red, displayed next to the names of Newbies in any Marketplace forums.
People have suggested blocking Newbies from the Marketplace section as a whole, but I guess that would be pretty annoying to a lot of people who register here for the first time just to trade.
Newbies would be able to trade, but I think a warning of sorts would be a better deterrent.
500  Economy / Services / Re: Sr. Member - 1100+ posts - Looking for signature campaign - 0.05/mo on: December 24, 2014, 07:15:06 PM
If you can agree to make at least 35 constructive posts and keep my signature for 30 days then I can offer .04 btc. The posts must be at least somewhat spread out (at least 5 every 10 days).

You would get paid after the 30 day period is complete. I will accept escrow if you wish.

Let me know

You asked for over double my maximum posts and offered the minimum price I was accepting.
Sorry, but I have to decline.

There are lots of Signature Campaigns available to Join who pays more than Double or Triple of what you Expected.
Get some Infos here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0

And you will be Hero Member in within 2 weeks i think if you make Regular posts.
So i think you should probably go for Weekly payouts rather than Monthly

Yes, I shall become a Hero Member on the 20th of January precisely, but I don't see any significantly better campaigns at that point.
(You can find exact activity periods here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=582736.0)
