501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: March 07, 2018, 02:13:44 PM
It's always good to exercise caution about any trading platform, but also good to have options. If we can get to the point where several trading platforms list DVC, then people who want to trade it can pick their favorite platform and stick with it. I know people who have been satisfied with C-Cex for years, but they note that things have changed for the worse over the past year. Unfortunately that is an all too common tale in the cryptocurrency industry. That's why the overall goal should be to be listed on more than one trading platform.
502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trading platform Cryptopia does not respond to support requests on: March 07, 2018, 02:05:55 PM
Late last night I finally did get a response from Cryptopia, and they informed me that they would fulfill my request. So... once I'm able to successfully log into my account again (I needed the profile email address changed and the change will take a day or two to populate), they will return to "in good standing with wiser."

And yes, they are swamped and training new support staff, so hopefully wait times for replies will decrease.
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] BANKERA - the Bank for the Blockchain Era on: March 06, 2018, 06:24:34 PM
2FA can be a real hassle if you're only dealing in small amounts, and as was stated earlier, it's not the panacea of security. However, relying on an email address to be permanent is plain stupid. Most of the online world understands that email addresses come and go, so they allow users to change them at will. With cryptocurrency it's different. Hence, people need to know that profile email addresses often cannot be changed. This is the case with SpectroCoin.
504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - Bridging the Gap Between the Centralized and Decentralized World on: March 06, 2018, 06:20:34 PM
I see your point, Wiser. Fully integrated systems consisting of an inclusive trusted digital currency with global banking and financial systems are the vital components for a digital currency in gaining mass adoption. This is a complex machine we have been building from ground up. After four years we have built a great foundation for the next phase. Everything that we have accomplished is verifiable. We believe that our white paper, once available for general release, will help a lot of people to better understand our vision and the strategic path we have chosen.

These are being done step by step, with more tasks done in parallel, especially when the funding is in place. For now lets get back to the multi-currency card. We like to see it as "Your Liquid Asset Card" with DNotes being your primary asset. Being an account holder at DNotesVault, you assign a pre-approved limit as the spendable limit. It can always be adjusted up or down. Our banking and financial networks will do all the conversion for you, anywhere in the world, where our approved list of fiat and digital currencies are accepted.

This is how we see the future. It will take years to built out the essential infrastructure and be in compliance of multiple layers of regulations.

It seems offering any sort of cryptoasset-backed debit card is really tough especially for people who live in the US. I have seen organization after organization with the ambition to offer such a debit card fall down on it over and over again, or simply not offer it to US citizens. I'm not sure if there are any successful debit cards like that overseas, but I can't use them if there are--at least not until I can set up an offshore company or something super major like that.

So if DNotes Global eventually can successfully offer it in a way that works in the US too, then that will be HUGE.

I'm hoping that DMD Diamond, XEM, SMART and STEEM will be included on your list of approved currencies that could be traded at the point of sale.
505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 06, 2018, 06:03:06 PM
I don't really use Cryptopia myself but is there no way for them to verify you based on KYC?

I'm sure they could, but that would require they actually *respond* to my ticket. That's the real problem here. They don't respond.
506  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trading platform Cryptopia does not respond to support requests on: March 06, 2018, 04:06:25 PM
They're still swamped by the sounds of it and so swamped that perhaps they'll never catch up. I've no idea where you'd find 50 people to help run such a place with the skills, honesty and competence. And there's a good chance alts will go quiet in which case there's no way they can afford to pay that number of people. That's the problem with an area that surges and then goes to sleep for months on end. I wonder if that can ever be solved.

They should've shut down new registrations when it reached a few tens of thousands more than they were expecting, not let it get up to over one million.

I for one have never had a problem there but that's primarily because I chose to avoid it when all these issues started to pop up.

I ran into an issue when I with no warning lost access to my profile email address. They have an address specifically for resetting accounts but they don't respond to that either. I'm in a position where I can't even log in because I can't confirm the action by email. I do very little trading on Cryptopia, so I never bothered to set up 2FA. It didn't seem worth the hassle. Now I wish I had.

Why do you say alts will go quiet? If that is the case, then hiring new people might not be smart. On the other hand, it would also mean that they'll have less demand for new registrations or any kind of support needs. If people really do stop trading altcoins, then they could theoretically eventually catch up with their current backlog.
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] BANKERA - the Bank for the Blockchain Era on: March 06, 2018, 03:56:02 PM
I need to warn people. You cannot change your SpectroCoin profile email address! So what happens if you lose access to your email address? The answer is you just lost all the funds in your account.

I'm learning this lesson the hard way, but never, ever register on any cryptocurrency related service with an email address that might expire or for any other reason not be there in a year or next month. YOU CANNOT CHANGE IT. Your profile email address is your permanent identity.

On SpectroCoin, you can create a new account and transfer all assets to the new account. If you have any doubts about the email address you currently use in your profile, then do it now. Use a gmail address to register an account, or some other email provider that is too big to fail. Make the change while you still have access to the old email address. Because once you lose access to it, you will no longer be able to confirm withdrawals and that's it. Bye bye funds!

SpectroCoin is not alone. Poloniex says they can't change profile email addresses either. Cryptopia for practical purposes (because they do not respond to support tickets) can't either. BitTrex has a process you can go through to change your email address (and I did this successfully) but it's not automatic. Coinbase does allow you to change your profile email address automatically, but they seem to be the exception.

When it comes to cryptocurrency related services, your profile email address is your permanent identity. So make sure your email address is also permanent!
508  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Trading platform Cryptopia does not respond to support requests on: March 06, 2018, 03:47:13 PM
I figure a warning is in order. The Cryptopia trading platform does not respond to support tickets. I have a ticket outstanding for several months which has not even received a confirmation email saying it was received. Others have been raising similar complaints. They warn you on their site that they are very busy and growing fast and all that. All trading platforms are growing in terms of user base but some have figured out how to deal with it better than others. Cryptopia, unfortunately, has not figured out how to deal with it.

As far as I can tell there is nothing substantially wrong with their service itself. You can trade, deposit, withdraw, etc., though there have been issues with XEM deposits confirming in a timely manner. As long as you don't ever need any technical support, you should be good. But you might consider moving your business to a platform that does provide timely support such as BitTrex, because, well, who ever plans on needing support?
509  Other / Beginners & Help / The all important permanent profile email address on: March 06, 2018, 03:40:11 PM
I recently have run into what is turning out to be a very expensive problem and I thought I'd warn others about it.

When you register with a trading platform you will use an email address. Do NOT use an email address that has any chance of ever expiring. For example, a domain you own that you end up not being able to afford to keep paying for, or an email associated with some kind of lesser known domain service which could be here today and gone tomorrow.

When it comes to many trading platforms, you email address is your permanent identity and it cannot be changed. This is true for Poloniex, SpectroCoin and (for practical purposes since they don't respond to support tickets) Cryptopia. BitTrex has a process for changing profile email addresses but it's not automatic. I'm sure there are others. When you make withdrawals, you will have to confirm them by email unless you have enabled 2FA and set it to bypass email confirmation. With Cryptopia, if you have not set up 2FA, you can't even log in without confirming the action by email.

So what happens if you've lost access to your email address? You might still be able to log into your account, but if you need any sort of email confirmation to make withdrawals, then you've just lost all those funds. You can see them, but you can't get at them, kind of like losing your wallet password and the private keys to all its addresses.

So the take home message: When you create an account on any trading platform or crypto-related service, remember that your email address is your identity and it cannot be changed. Use a gmail address or an address from another very reliable service, one that won't go away, to register your account. There are lots of free email and domain providers out there, but will they still be there next year? Make sure they will be before you use any of their addresses as your trading platform profile email.

If you do have accounts with questionable email addresses as your user ID, then go through the process now to change them to more reliable email addresses. It could be as simple as creating a new account with a gmail address and withdrawing everything from the old account to the new account. You could also contact support about changing it. Some platforms will change profile email addresses; many will not. But do it now while you still have access to the old questionable email address. Don't wait, or like me, you may be looking at writing off some losses.

If anyone reading this happens to know if there is a way to recreate the domain for an old email address where the domain service no longer exists, I'd be interested in knowing if there are recovery options. In the mean time, I figured I'd warn others.

Bottom line: you never ever want to lose access to an email address you are using as your profile address on anything cryptocurrency related!
510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - Bridging the Gap Between the Centralized and Decentralized World on: March 06, 2018, 03:25:14 PM
DNotes 2.0, CRISPs, and DNotesVault are our first foundation blocks to enable DNotes stakeholders to save and spend DNotes like money. Subject to getting regulatory approvals, with a full-service exchange, bank, and partner banks, DNotes stakeholders would be issued a multi-currency card that could be used just like, money, credit and debit card anywhere DNotes is accepted around the world. That is the power of our fully integrated ecosystems.

Fully integrated systems are going to be huge! Right now no one has them. I would be thrilled with a debit card that would allow me to instantly (and not too expensively) spend my DNotes at a normal store without having to first go through an exchange (right now Cryptopia is the only option I'm aware of and they really stink) and then sending the BTC to Coinbase.

That will be especially fun when the DNotes I bought for a few cents are worth several dollars!
511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 06, 2018, 03:18:18 PM
I have an outstanding support ticket with Cryptopia that has been open for months with absolutely no response, not even an email confirmation of a ticket created. I basically need to recover an account and think that if I ever do manage to recover that account the only thing I'll do with it is remove the assets and be done with the site. I consider ignoring of support tickets to be unacceptable customer service. I had a similar situation that I needed BitTrex' help with and they got back to me and resolved my issue within hours of me having provided the information they needed.

I have a similar situation with SpectroCoin and they've basically told me there is no way to resolve my issue, but at least they responded.

My problem is that I with no warning lost access to my log in email address. On *most* ordinary sites if that happens you simply log into your profile page and change it and that's it. But with some of these crypto trading sites, Cryptopia and SpectroCoin included, there is no way to do that. If you lose access to your email address, you just lost all your funds. I had no idea an email address was such a point of failure. BitTrex has a process for changing your email address and their support is responsive. Poloniex says there is no way to change it, and fortunately in that case I'd activated 2FA only confirmation for withdrawals, plus I don't have anything significant on there, so I'll just create a new account.

So a warning: don't trade on Cryptopia. They stink. Any of these other sites, only use an email address from a service that is not likely to go out of business--gmail, yahoo, msn, something like that. If you are using an email address that might go away at some point, then go through whatever you need to do to change to a more reliable one while you still have access to it.

coinscontrol.com is still showing as under maintenance. Have you been able to connect with them since the site went down?

On another note, I just learned about this project, which might present some possibilities for DVC: https://twitter.com/ATUMchain

No replies from coinscontrol this week
The site was updated with a new message today
I will keep trying to contact the admin

Have you checked with BarterDEX and Crypto-Bridge?

I will check with them

Crypto-Bridge is a decentralized exchange, which means it's clunky but works. Less chance of stolen coins too, from what I understand. If you trade on Crypto-Bridge for the first time, give yourself plenty of time to learn the ropes and buy a small amount of Bitshares (BTS) as that is how you pay your transaction fees on that site.

I was able to open Coins Control today, so they have resumed operations. The DVC market isn't yet up. Looking forward to hearing that it's live Smiley

Definitely the top option. It looks better visually as well as it sounds better and very intriguing.

https://gizmodo.com/bill-gates-thinks-cryptocurrency-is-killing-people-in-a-1823381081

"The main feature of crypto currencies is their anonymity."

This statement is unfortunate and lacks vision from a person I believed to be a visionary. This industry is experiencing some growing pains, and the regulators are now trying to weed out the bad actors, but that is to be expected of a new industry. I'm sure the PC was used by a lot of bad actors as well.

There were a lot of comments along that line circulating on social media. Yes, some really bad people have used cryptocurrency, but all really bad people have used Windows...

I can't believe how fast the amount of misinformation has exploded, with media commentators making buy recommendations after laughing at crypto 6 months ago.

I've found it a little surreal to sometimes come across these passionate recommendations from people who have barely gotten involved in this industry, but they smell money so going all out. It's also weird to think that right now of everyone (media talking heads included) chattering about cryptocurrency these days, I'm probably in the top 5% in terms of knowledge, experience, and expertise. Finally it's weird to know that people are drawing their conclusions based on various forms of hype and other fake news rather than the realities going on in this industry. I kind of wish I could talk to everyone, but then the psychology is that people like me aren't exactly listened to as we don't have any particular stature in the way the world looks at it. I can know tons about this industry but the guy who chatters away on TV will be seen as having more credibility just because he's on TV. It's frustrating on one hand, but I guess good if you don't like fame.

PS. I really like this set too:

I actually did a video for a project called DBRAIN, that is going to be an AI platform for dataset improvements in order to make apps etc and this is going to be a crowd working platform that will give millions if not billions of unbanked people in developing countries the chance to do really easy tasks and earn an income through the DBR token which they then can sell and use to buy their stuff they need to live on. I truly believe blockchain tech is here to stay and help provide a lot of people with work.

I would be very interested in being kept in the loop on this project. Sometimes I like to do little tasks to earn some quick cryptocash too, but mostly I'm interested in the bigger picture. Can you please PM me or post here more specific information on your project and if you have an email update list. Thanks Smiley

This is fantastic news! They are saying what I've been saying for years (OK, months), though with much more in depth analysis of the technical aspects.

Strong testament especially when coming from the development community building real-world applications

Its not the first and wont be the last!

I just learned from the Telegram channel that Atum will run on the NEM block chain. So yes, more and more tokens keep finding NEM!

It might be beneficial to just download all of the receiver files from darkgamex since that is a known-good set and host them at your location

That's a good suggestion. I might go ahead and do that one day, just to have a complete set. Hopefully later this month...

Can you provide a complete link for where to get all the files?

I'm not much of a trader, but a great platform to use is BitTrex. If you can supplement your trading with earning coins, and then invest those on a regular basis, you will do much better than just trading.
