I know this is hindsight 20/20 but one thing I would have done differently is that when the team sent out all those PMs with everyone's NEM tokens, to have also pasted in a statement saying something like "you have x days to register your token or you risk losing it" and a link to directions.

Well whats done is done, i guess its stakeholders responsibility too to check NEM forum and this thread for some information from time to time.

Agreed. Just mentioning it in case there is another part of the process involving PMs. I also like the suggestion of putting the hard deadline into this thread's title as well as on any websites dealing with token registration. Basically pick a deadline (if that hasn't already been done) and post it everywhere.

Well it's taking a while to sync the new wallet. I guess that block chain just keeps growing longer and longer... LOL

######BUG 1) There is a small gap between .9 and 1 seed where the problem is not fixed.
###########The size of the gap is about .05 SEED and given the time sensitive nature of this problem
###########I have elected not to take the time to figure out how to fix it without introducing bugs.

I think I understand all of what you wrote in this post except the above. Could you please elaborate? What exactly is meant by a small gap between .9 and 1 seed?
1466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | 10/11 MANDATORY UPDATE on: October 11, 2014, 04:37:48 PM
Thank you for the very clear explanation of the options and their ramifications. I feel like I can make an informed decision.

I'm in the process of updating the wallet. I'm not anticipating any problems and I've had lots of practice Wink

Ok everyone, it's not all doom and gloom if you staked already. Waiting until the change takes effect carries a significant risk, and people that choose to wait to stake need to decide what they want to do.

Here's the lowdown. If you wait until the change takes place in a little under 13 hours, then you're taking the risk that you'll be able to get your last stake in before the end of the growth period. You will get roughly 1.7-2x your 269% if you wait, BUT you'll LOSE 2.69x at the end if you can't get in that last stake.

I've already made it clear that my testing showed the last day tends to run a little short BUT we are currently about 10 hours behind schedule and I've never been able to test full scale, so I can't say for sure when it will end.

People that staked already, or choose to stake now WILL DEFINITELY STAKE ON THE LAST DAY.

People that wait until the fix takes place will have to take the gamble that the last day wont end too early for them to get their final stake in. That is the choice each of you have to make, and I don't honestly know which is better for sure.

1467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is almost here[Updates & Discussion] on: October 11, 2014, 04:22:34 PM
I was one of the people (newbies) who initially suggested an extended waiting period. But then I got educated about the issues involved as well as the fact that it had been stated right up front that there would be four days to claim stakes.

Also, even though I haven't been super involved, I have kept tabs on the thread and when in doubt have messaged people asking about when I should start paying even closer attention. I was concerned I'd miss the launch or something. I feel like I've been given adequate information and adequate time. My real clue came when I got the PM with a token number Smiley

I'm cool with the decision as it is.

As for what to do with the unclaimed stakes, I like the idea of an investment fund--something along the lines of the NXTVenture fund where it invests in new companies and spins off new assets. Maybe the shares in the fund could be initially divided up among the claimed stakeholders, and then we can trade them on the NEM asset exchange if we so desire?

I also would support siphoning off some for marketing and development. You really need lots of both to maintain a successful alt coin.

And of course, do everything in a very transparent and careful way, etc.

my reserve with letting only 0.8 seeds stake still hasn't gone, and i'm like 26 hours old. No way to get very many in this way.

Yeah, it could take a while... Hopefully the new wallet will be ready shortly.
1469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | 10/10 MANDATORY UPDATE on: October 11, 2014, 03:22:14 PM
On the other hand, considering the history, someone with that much invested really should be paying closer attention. This newest bug has been known for hours now.

it looks like 2 of the top 5 wallets staked for the very, very low rate...

although its good for everyone else, really not good for them and not good to really upset some of the coins largest investors. There's going to be a lot of upset people and FUD happening in this thread today.

It means that the total coin estimate just dropped by about 570,000. (those 2 wallets were 309 coins total, and should have been 1143 by tomorrow, but basically stayed at 313 by tomorrow)
1470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | 10/10 MANDATORY UPDATE on: October 11, 2014, 02:51:26 PM
All but one of my chunks are greater than 1 seed. If I only stake with the less than 1 amount by setting the reserve amount to the whole number, what does that do to my chunks if my fraction were to stake? I'm more curious than anything, and depending on when the wallet update comes out, this may be a moot point.

Yes, you DO have to keep on top of this one. Fortunately, nothing staked while I was sleeping Wink

so did you end up locking your wallet? I think it's wise to state not too follow this thread to closely as well... I was watching all this unfold very closely and I ended up downloading the latest wallet last night on another computer and sending all my little chunks as one big transaction to my 2nd wallet (after recommendation from some users) and well now I'm being told that anything over 1 seed isn't staking... so now I'm again at a stand still waiting to find out what to do.. I could have just kept them all on my first wallet, in little chunks.. and not lost the pos for the first day.. what a world lol

Right now I have it staking but with the fraction left over after I entered the whole number as my reserved balance. So only 0.8 or so is able to stake.

Yesterday evening, most of my chunks staked right on schedule, like seconds after they matured, and they did it at 269 percent (or actually a close estimate). So I was figuring things were humming along just great. I had two more chunks due to stake at midnight. When I got up the next morning I saw that they hadn't staked at all but were still trying. Then I read the thread and followed Cryptzo's instructions, and that's where I'm at right now. I just got lucky. I could have had my last two chunks also stake sometime this morning at a much lower rate.

I had consolidated a number of my small chunks while I was still mining. I figured I'd end up with a lump sum from the pool, but I had some technical difficulties with my miners and got out of mining earlier than I'd planned. So then I was pretty well set up for the growth period, but because I'd staked fairly late during the 1 percent period, it wasn't for a good 12 hours or more that anything staked for me during the growth phase, and it was in those initial hours that we had to quickly upgrade to version 1.0.4, so I kind of skated past all those problems as well. All my experience having to delete and replace wallets during the early days of NXT benefited me here, as with just a few instructions I was able to get new wallets online, synced and working fairly quickly.

So... for those who aren't doing quite as well here, keep in mind that the experience may prove to be an invaluable benefit when the next opportunity comes up for you. Keep your chin up, roll with it, and learn as much as you can.

I'm testing out the reserve method with just 0.01 coins. Doing that will then split up big chunks into lots of small ones, for better or worse.

Could then re-consolidate your coins again, but lose out on staking age that way.

It's definitely advantage to those with small #s of coins on this one, big wallets will likely stay locked, losing out some.

Well I figure I'll give it a try with less than one for now, but I'm kind of hoping the upgrade comes down before anything in my wallet stakes.

Really interested to see how this whole thing plays out in the end.

Me too. This has been a lot of fun and very educational. I now know way more about Scrypt POS coins than I did last week, that's for sure. I'm optimistic. I think this is a good coin to hold for a while. Though I will be selling a few at some point to recover my mining costs and take some profits. Other than that I want to at least hold out for the year of 16 percent staking interest, if not longer.
1474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | 10/10 MANDATORY UPDATE on: October 11, 2014, 04:14:22 AM
Well I was not expecting the price to increase, this is a good sign!!!!! I may have to buy a couple more seeds if the buy orders pick up anymore.

That's phenomenal! Maybe bad news for my 0.01 BTC buy order, but otherwise totally awesome.

My understanding is that at peak growth this coin will be scarcer than Bitcoin (something like 10 million or less compared to Bitcoin's current circulation of over 13 million. I don't expect seed to overnight trade for more than one Bitcoin apiece, but it's not unrealistic to expect that it could approach that value long term provided the fundamentals are good.

Personally I think the quick and positive response of the developer to challenges (many of which have been acutely time sensitive) has helped with confidence in this coin.
1475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | 10/10 MANDATORY UPDATE on: October 11, 2014, 04:05:01 AM
so... i downloaded the latest wallet about 4 hours ago... i'm still not getting growth coins. I have been staking coins since day 1... can someone please tell me why i am not receiving any growth phase returns yet? I'm still only getting .00001 to .000003 staking rewards....

This is getting very frustrating. I've downloaded at least 3 wallets now for this coin.

The full explanation is in various posts over the last few pages, but the short answer is that a fix for that goes into effect in an hour, per this counter: http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?p0=136&iso=20141011T06&year=2014&month=10&day=11&hour=6&min=0&sec=0&msg=Staking%20Fix&csz=1

If you have mature coins coming up, you might want to lock your wallet for the next hour. Then after that your coins should stake at 269 percent.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm hoping you are right on this. I've been looking through this thread periodically, and I've already had to switch wallets a few times to get things going. Was a little too frustrated to read through all of the new posts today.

What is the benefit of locking the wallet for the hour?

Let's say you have 0.1 seed about to stake, and it stakes before the hour runs out, well then you have to wait 24 hours for it to stake again. If you lock up your wallet until after that hour, then it will be ready to stake when you unlock and it will stake at 269 percent. Cryptzo put in a fix once people started complaining about this issue, which primarily affected small balances, but the fix for whatever reason won't take effect until the counter runs out.

EDIT: I would highly recommend reading through Cryptzo's posts, though, as what I'm communicating here is my summary of them. I'm not in any way involved with the development, just a super engaged user (who a little over a week ago saw the entry in the altcoin calendar and said sure I'll mine this Wink )

Pools are taking forever to send coins with the current block-rate Sad

Were you mining until the end? I was planning to but then a couple of my miners started acting up around block 8700 so I gave it up, figuring I'd gotten most of what I was going to get out of it by that point.

Assuming BTC itself remains static - my guesstimate range would be $800 to $5000 per million within a month of launch.

I will be holding for 5+ years.

I think digital currencies will be worth $Trillions someday and something like NEM could be a front runner or one of the runner ups (so anywhere from $10-$500 per unit of NEM might be possible).

That would be quite a return!
