1501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | 10/10 MANDATORY UPDATE on: October 10, 2014, 08:56:22 PM
With so much iterative updates/forks I feel like this was a very "beta" project and almost feel like a new "alpha" product should be launched with free ICO coins given to those who invested previously. seedCoin2.0? lol Anywho, I still look forward to 6 more days of growth.

This is crypto, not something guaranteed.

NXT had a lot of issues with the wallet even a couple months after it launched. But it's working well now and the coin is going places, and early adopters will probably benefit handsomely.

The main dev here answers questions promptly and applies fixes in a reasonable amount of time.

I think those are good signs.

this may be a silly question but is 1 day staking 24 hours or 1440 blocks?

24 hours
1503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | 10/10 MANDATORY UPDATE on: October 10, 2014, 08:36:57 PM
Come on! this isn't even funny anymore.
people had put their money on this and have been staking for measly 0.00001 while others get a 269% growth on thier coins and obviousy dumping them because they now have more coins then the others.
this isn't fair and very dissapointing.

if this was the first issue than maybe, maybe, it would have been understandable but come-on man this is the fourth wallet version you released in 48 hrs.

why oh why do i make the same mistakes and trust incompetent devs!!!???

best of luck with your coin. i fucking lost 80% on this shit.

You only lost if you dumped.
1504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | 10/10 MANDATORY UPDATE on: October 10, 2014, 08:30:17 PM
That .99 one will stake fine most likely, but I can't be 100% sure. It depends on how old it is. If it's exactly 24 hours old when it stakes, then no, it'll have the issue. If it's a couple of hours older than that, it'll stake fine.

OK, to best determine my course of action I'm going to need some details. First, what time zone is the wallet on? Since your countdown is on London Time, can I assume the wallet time is also London Time? I'm horrible with time zones, so I'm going to have to convert all my coin dates to my own time zone in order to figure out how old they are.

Second, by "when it stakes" do you mean when the wallet shows an actual staking reward? Or when the coins first go up for staking?
1505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | 10/10 MANDATORY UPDATE on: October 10, 2014, 08:19:00 PM
The wallet has a nasty habit of leaving your green staking arrow staking after you've run out of eligible coins. That bug is purely cosmetic though. It would have happened anyway had you closed your old wallet and opened it again. It's all in the reporting side of the code, not in the staking side. It'll turn green again as soon as you have coins that can stake again.

Thanks Smiley
1506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | 10/10 MANDATORY UPDATE on: October 10, 2014, 08:17:12 PM
okay so now unlock the new wallet and recycle old wallet and i should be good?

Yeah. That's it.

Feel free to keep it locked for now though if you were experiencing the issue. The change doesn't take effect for about 9 1/2 hours.

I'm wondering if I too should keep my wallet locked until the countdown expires. I do not know if my wallet had those issues, as I didn't stake anything after the switch to 100% POS. I just would hate to have that issue and see my coins stake at 1% right before the countdown expires and then have to wait again for maturation.

Another thing I'm a bit fuzzy on: once coins stake, do they have to wait a certain number of blocks to stake again, or is it literally 24 hours by the clock?

It's literally 24 hours by the clock. If you put your coins into 4 chunks like you were talking about the other day, and each chunk is 1 SEED or more, then there's no reason not to stake right now for you.

Does 0.99 count as 1 seed? One of my larger chunks got divided that way the last time it staked. Are you saying that if I unlock my wallet to stake now, that when I do it will for sure be at 269 percent?
1507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is almost here[Updates & Discussion] on: October 10, 2014, 08:12:15 PM

I think, the owner is the owner, is the owner, is the owner, and he stays the owner, until he decides to let it go.
Until then, guess what, he´s the owner . . .  Smiley

Not that I disagree, but not claiming one's stake, when one has been given every opportunity to do so, could be interpreted as a decision to let it go.
1508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is almost here[Updates & Discussion] on: October 10, 2014, 08:10:51 PM
Bitcointalk has not been banned in China. It was misinformation.
It was mentioned at start that when announced they will have 4 days to claim their stake.

That's good to know that BTT wasn't actually banned in China. The only other issue with stake claiming I'm aware of is people having their BTT accounts compromised. If you can at least read BTT, then you can know who to get in touch with regarding why you can't claim your stake, and resolution can be determined on a case by case basis.

If it was actually stated up front that there would be a limited time to claim stakes, then that changes my perspective. If 4 days was what was announced, then giving one month is generous.

The only remaining question in my mind is this: are there any possibilities that the ability to know what is going on with NEM could be for any reason denied to people who invested--as in the reason they haven't acted on claiming their stake is the result of not knowing that is beyond them simply not taking the time to check this thread? If the answer is yes, we should do all we can reasonably do to mitigate that. If the answer is no, then we should proceed as planned.

I agree that fate of unclaimed stakes should be determined before coins are distributed.

If you're having this problem, go to %appdata%/seedcoin and delete everything except your wallet.dat. Be very careful not to delete wallet.dat. You may also want to keep your peers.dat and seedcoin.conf if you have one.

Thank you. That worked. One major thing changed, though. My old wallet was showing as staking (green icon and all). My current wallet tells me I'm not staking because I don't have mature coins. This is plausible to me as I thought all my consolidated chunks had staked yesterday evening (with the exception of the one I created yesterday). I was actually surprised to see them as "staking" this morning. Should I view this change as a sign that any issues my old wallet may have had (have not staked since we went to 100% POS) have been resolved with the update?
1511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is almost here[Updates & Discussion] on: October 10, 2014, 07:40:53 PM
My vote would be to keep it as a development fund. To compete with NXT, BTSX, Ethereum we need big money. Just look at the resources those guys have.

In the end this is going to benefit us all.

But I think it is very important to do all that is reasonably possible to give every investor every possible chance to claim their stake. We don't know all the reasons why stakes have not been claimed. I do know that since there is no email list it is possible to miss info unless one regularly checks this thread. If an entire country (China) has blocked access to the thread, then that is going to be a challenge for any stakeholders living in that country. We need to give them every chance to recover their stake. When they invested they weren't making a donation. They also may not be very technically oriented (as in attempting to use TOR to circumvent the block).

I don't necessarily know what the best solution is, but I definitely believe all these issues should be heavily weighed.

Forgive me if this has been answered before, but have we gotten any farther than token registration yet?

Also, my vote would be to hold the unclaimed stakes indefinitely. They belong to whoever bought them in the first place.

+1
big wall of text

I read through each paragraph and I feel most of us probably agree with this.  Too much liability in holding huge amounts for people who may never show up.

It's doest need to be held forever, just 6-12 months. 1 month is a pointless limit to make, why not make it longer, 3 months at least.

I see the issues with holding indefinitely. But I think some extended period, like one year, would be appropriate. It would probably best to work out details with a reputable escrow service.

on windoze I get "error loading blkindex.dat"   Huh
no biggies it only takes a few minutes to resynch

How did you get around that problem? I'm trying to find that file on my computer so I can delete it.

EDIT: The only files I find with that name correspond to a completely different wallet. I don't think I want to delete another wallet's block index file. What's the workaround?

with 2 seeds, should my weight be exceeding the network weight?  right now im at 202 and the network is at 81 on block 10266

I think that means you're really close to the front of the line, so to speak. The greater your weight, the more likely you are to find the next block and get the reward. But the longer you go not finding the next block, the more your weight increases.

I am one of those 40 who still use version 1.0.1.0
am I losing anything if I don't update to 1.0.2.0 ?

me too. I just checked. Since everything is working great so far I would hate to rock the boat. But I don't want to miss out on 269 percent staking either...

I'm on 1.0.2.0,

If it's working for you I wouldn't change it. I wish I hadn't updated.

Has anybody running 1.0.1.0 staked at 269 percent? I haven't yet. That's really the bottom line for me Smiley

I have a noob question: how long do recently staked coins stay in the "staked:" part and are not spendable or count towards the total balance? I've noticed they hang out there for a while but never actually counted blocks or anything.

EDIT: 120 blocks, right?
1520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEED] SeedCoin | Buy/Mine SEED & Grow Coinbase | MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE on: October 09, 2014, 11:12:54 PM
Just curious, who do you guys think will buy this coin after the growth period?  Everyone will have tons of newly minted coins to sell but what reason would people have to buy once growth is over?  I worried this will be a dump festival.

You should read the thread, you obviously missed something.

Sure let me just read 55 pages instead of asking a simple question.  Thanks for the insight, you should post more often.

Try reading Cryptzo's posts--you can find them from his profile page. Since he's the main dev, most of the pertinent info you are looking for can be found in his posts.
