1361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread -100% Original Codebase - Over 70 Active Team Members on: April 12, 2015, 06:28:33 PM
Well I didn't see this coming.  I thought XEM had promise but this downward slide since launch is disconcerting.  I expected an initial dump but also expected a correction upward that hasn't happened.  There doesn't appear to be any kind of game plan.  Those behind this coin need to get out front and center now to rally the troops.  I'm not selling my stakes but I hate to take a loss and add another blemish to my almost spotless track record of picking coins.  And I'm getting that uneasy feeling that you get when something doesn't feel right.  So is there a plan for this coin and if so what is it?

I have a buy order at 61 on Poloniex. Care to fill it for me?

As for your questions, I don't know where you've been but if anything, NEM errs on the side of overplanning and overtesting and overthinking and overdeveloping and even, overinventing. It's actually kind of funny that you are saying "there doesn't appear to be any kind of game plan." I don't think I've run into a coin with MORE game plan since DNotes.

Are you serious?  The value plunges and you come back with an offer to buy at 1/3rd of the price when the coin launched.  Why would you even make such an absurd post.  There are many people that are wondering what is going on.  I'll take a loss and not miss a step.  Some won't be lucky enough to have the cushion to write it off.  This is crypto, months don't work.  Where have you been?  Amazing.

I guess I've been out of the loop reading the NEM plan, which you apparently missed. Here it is again: http://blog.nem.io/progress-and-utility-of-nem/

While you're at it, read the entire website and the other blog posts and you'll get caught up.

In the mean time my buy order on Polo still stands. Next week I might lower it to 41 sat so you better act now if you're wanting to get out Wink

Another question I have: What is your roadmap for having this coin gain in popularity, particularly among gamers?
1364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EPC][Scrypt] Experiencecoin-The coin geared towards gamers-reRelease on: April 08, 2015, 02:57:56 PM
I have  roadmap on how I want to approach this, however, before I start making requests from developers, the coin needs to become popular enough, so that when I do turn to these companies, and start negotiating with them, I can present them with some numbers and popularity, as a means to persuade them.

Makes sense. A bit of a chicken/egg thing, huh?

Are you willing to share your roadmap?

I'm trying to make a decision about whether or not to mine this coin.

Also, are you in negotiations with any exchanges? If so, which ones? I like to have a coin on an exchange before I mine it even if I plan to hold it because then I can use the exchange's wallet rather than having yet another QT on my own machine Smiley
1365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread -NEM has launched[Updates&Discussion] on: April 07, 2015, 09:49:41 PM
Great advice! I did almost all the same steps.
KeePass is great for that because it lets you put different things under 1 entry. I have wallets, private keys, addresses etc stored under respective entries...
Also a great feature - KeePass lets you print out the list of all entries you have - so you can easily have printed version of it to store somewhere safe and ready to be used by family members in case of emergency...

I personally use LastPass. Not to start a password manager war or anything, just to point out another option. What I like about LastPass is that I can access it online from anywhere. To beef up security you can use 2FA. But that would take care of the contingency where my hard drive crashes. Of course, anything stored in the cloud is probably less secure than something stored on your own hardware. Since usually I'm my own worst enemy about losing data stored on my hardware, I take my chances with the cloud storage. But I also have the encrypted flash drives in case LastPass goes under or something.

Bottom line for anyone reading this: take advantage of some kind of password manager (it's great for having unique passwords for everything), but even then, don't make it your only location for data where a lot is riding on you not losing it.

And if you need a super secret tough to crack password in the first place, use passwordgenerator.net or something similar. You can generate passwords with over 2,000 characters! I have them on some of my NXT wallets. I'd love to see a hacker try to work on that for a few centuries Wink
1366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread -NEM has launched[Updates&Discussion] on: April 07, 2015, 09:25:47 PM
The NEM admin I guess quite fairly said they can't do that behind the back of the community. But they also said I should ask The community IF I deserve a stake. I guess it's up to feedback on here now. I won't beg I just think it's fair.

What a frustrating situation. I don't know if the decision has already been made--I didn't see anything in the pages immediately following the original post.

Here's my 2 satoshis.

If this had happened to me, I would probably be asking for the same thing. However, when I got my stake token and then later the real account data private and public keys, those came with strict warnings to not lose them. So I backed them up in my password manager which I could access from anywhere, and I also stored them on two encrypted flash drives, one of which was stored away from my home (you know, in case my house and computer burned down or something). I've been in crypto for a while and have a number of wallet passwords stored in this way, and I know that if I ever lose one of them, I lose access to associated wallet, regardless of how many funds are in said wallet and regardless of who feels sorry for me, etc. In most cases the funds simply can't be accessed without that password or private key no matter how much someone might want to.

So... what I'm hearing here is that nextgencoin stored his private key in one place only, which was on his computer hard drive. Then the computer crashed and he lost the data. He's asking to be compensated for the lost coins.

The problem with compensating is that the coins used for compensation have to come from somewhere, like the community fund, so that they would be unavailable for their original intended purpose.

The problem with not compensating is that nextgencoin would in essence be punished for not saving his very important private key in multiple locations, which isn't exactly a crime. That seems stiff. But unfortunately that is common in crypto, and people kind of have to make plans for that because it's the nature of the beast.

I don't really have a good answer, but those are the issues I see.

If the decision was already made, then forgive my redundancy.

Yeah...prob for the best. If you have telegram you can join the group there as well if you're really motivated Wink

What's telegram? I probably would join...

Is it this: https://telegram.org/ ?

So it seems this thread suddenly became completely useless. Bummer. Guess I'll just hang out on the NEM forum from now on.

The Dev is around, i'm sure he'll answer soon. Im supporting the coin because of the community it stands for.

I'm not much of a gamer, but I do see the potential in a gaming currency, especially if it gets widely accepted. But I do think the game developers would have to be behind the concept.
1370  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EPC][Scrypt] Experiencecoin-The coin geared towards gamers-reRelease on: April 07, 2015, 03:10:31 PM
This looks very interesting. One question: What do the game developers think of this? For example, I notice on the website that World of Warcraft can trade into EPC. Does this reflect an actual arrangement with the WoW game developers, or is it just coding? In other words, could a compatible game later decide to not be compatible? Thanks in advance for the reply.
Look who it is!! Hi Wiser good to see you!

Great to see you too! I saw your tweet on MRR, so wanted to check it out. Do you know the answer to my question? Smiley

BitTrex is once again threatening to remove this coin. Is there another exchange that carries it?

Happy Birthday, D-Notes! There's a lot to like about this coin. I'm enjoying mining it and putting some away in my children's CRISP plans. May the second year be even better than the first!
1374  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption extended[Updates&Discussion] on: February 10, 2015, 05:34:08 AM
What was the big deal about multisig anyway?
Im not sure why the devs wanted to add this before launch, I would have been happy to wait for it to be added later but it is a good feature, but i should also mention that there are other coins currently already using it.

1) devs will be in control of a huge amount of coins and do not want to risk holding them in regular accounts.. 1 hack = devs lose credibility and nem dies.

2) other coins do have multisig, but not blockchain based multisig. there is a MASSIVE difference.

3) the more skeptical investors, or risk averse, will feel much safer investing in Nem knowing they can secure their investment safely with multisig.

4) 3rd parties(exchanges, payment processors et al) will be able to use multisig to secure funds so we wont have any mtgox, bter, bitstamp [and so] type hacks which make the coin stolen look bad even though its nothing to do with the actual coin(most of the time). also we wont ever end up in the position of nxt having to think about a roll back to recover 5% worth of coins that got stolen.

having multisig ready for launch was the BEST move the devs could have made.

Great post. It answered all the questions I didn't realize I had Smiley I especially like #4.

Thanks for brightening my day.

can't give you exact ETA ATM, 8 months of mining ahead. Ceti is not P&D take it easy

Do you have a ballpark ETA? I'm looking to stake while continuing to mine. You had said something earlier about some wallet fixes? I'm not looking to P&D, but I've had plenty of experience with holding a coin for way to long that went nowhere. Hopefully this coin goes places--this is often indicated by forum activity but not always. I'm mining and holding atm.

Do we have an ETA on when the wallet will be fixed to allow for staking? I'm trying to decide if I should keep mining this coin, and the lack of activity on this thread is not too reassuring.

I have a question. Forgive me if it's been answered already. Does POS kick in immediately for a wallet with mature coins? Or does POS only begin once POW is over? Thanks.
Cetuscoin is PoW/PoS hybrid, PoS should work along PoW there are few fixes planned which hopefully help PoS to kick in

Thanks. I'll keep my eye on this thread for wallet updates and such Smiley

I got the newsletter and I liked most of what I read except I find that XEM doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely as NEM does. I didn't understand the reasons for that X other than it's becoming some sort of convention. Could we go with just NEM or if the X is necessary, XNEM or X-NEM?

If the decision has already been made, then please disregard this post, but if it's still up for debate, then I wanted to put in my 2 satoshis Smiley
