501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you used Bitcoin as Real money to buy Real/physical goods? on: August 07, 2015, 05:06:35 AM
I bought my family brunch a few years ago when BTC was <100$. there was only one place in my town that accepted it then... it was more about the novelty, and to connect with the restaurant owner over our shred interest in crypto.

it was a real good cafe, closed now unfortunately, but really good food. Brunch was delicious but it cost me about 0.86 BTC which would have been ~ 50$ including tip...but now, in today's price ~$240 not quite the million dollar pizza but still pretty steep. I hope dude managed to hang onto them!

there are a few other shops accepting btc in town here now, but I'm just hoarding for now... when BTC hits 10000$ ill take the fam on a vacation. I want more buying power for my bits!
502  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-08-06]Macintoshs First Firmware Worm Developed, Bitcoin Implications Dire? on: August 07, 2015, 04:56:35 AM
I used to be a Mac guy, but gave up over 5 years ago. they are over priced and under preforming. They are marketed at n00bs who dont want to learn how to operate their machine. plus they are pretty much garbage after a few years.

I switched to a 200$ Toshiba, upgraded a few years ago to a 300$ one, way better experience, I feel like I have more control over the thing, and even if I have to replace it again... no problem, I still haven't spent as much over ~ 10 years as I did for a piece of crap that was hard tpo get software for and became useless in half the time.

mac's marketing is brilliant though. people who use it are convinced there can be no other option, which is ridiculous because macs limit you like crazy.

and the myth that they are impervious to virus is still holding unbelievably. only about 10 years ago mac only had about 5% of the market share of all computer users, so it wasn't worthwhile to make viruses and worms etc (even though a few were always there)  now the market share is huge because macs are seen as "top drawer", more desirable, and (especially) easy for dummies to use. They are in fact counter-intuitive, but the fools will never realize. Stockholm syndrome.

people who dont know squat about computers or security are in for some rude awakenings. its better to have some knowledge, do a little work and learn, than rely on blind faith.

my GF got a mac a few years ago, i warned her not to, but she had to have it. all the other girls had one! oi veh! well, now you cant even watch a youtube on it, it freezes every 5 seconds and i doubt it can be fixed for less than my excellent Toshiba cost to buy new.

fortunately she doesn't BTC on the thing. I set her up on a little 99$ notebook and a ledger for that  Wink

i hate mac
503  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-08-06] 99bitcoins - 20 Bitcoin experts you should be following on Twitter on: August 07, 2015, 04:40:40 AM
wow, thanks for that link. I thought I had a pretty comprehensive list of bitcoin people to follow already, but I only had 7 on that list.

good to know these guys (n gals) and +followed.
504  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin becomes 100% unregulated in Japan!!! on: August 06, 2015, 09:58:03 PM
I'm thinking that this ruling has more to do with paving the ground to introduce total bitcoin regulation.

I dont know Japanese law, but rulings like this define the object in question (BTC) so that they can target the 3rd parties related to it (exchanges, etc)

this isnt an open and shut thing... its the start of a tsunami of legislation.

anyways..."ongoing" and watched closely...
505  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I made a blog! cryptocall.wordpress.com on: August 06, 2015, 09:44:55 PM
It's a start... needs a lot more content, especially Original content... write something every day and soon you will have lots.

when blogging it is good to network and get feedback... try reddit/ blogging... its a good community for that.

also I would try and get adsense approved (this is easier if you start with blogspot account. make sure you have at least 10-20 posts before you apply, even more, the better... they are pretty fussy about letting people in, especially if you live in the third world... but there are guidlines for maximizing your chances at reddit/adsense.

I say that you should monetize not because I think you will get rich... you might do ok, but you might make no money at all. what you will get from an adsense account is GOOGLE ANALYTICS. I cannot stress how valuable this tool is for tweaking your blog to suit your audience, it gives (fairly) real-time stats for all visitors and your audience, where they are from, what they look at, for how long, and if anyone clicks an ad it tells you even more. It is a very helpful tool and worth more than you are likely to make from clicks.

the main thing to concentrate on now though is... regularly updated original content.

good luck and happy blogging!

Who is to say what's true or not? I haven't heard anything about a wife, they think he went to Thailand but they also say he's kidnapped or dead. As far as any of us know, everything we've heard is lies.

I'm just wondering if he can ever work in the industry again? Guys can hate their wife right after the wedding. Especially nerds who are usually totally manipulated by women. They can empty the bank account and go live with hookers at some beach resort. They can do all sorts of stuff.

Entire companies can conspire to rip off their shareholders

Competing companies can headhunt these crooks

AM bagholders... We can't do much

imo he does not need to work ever anyway ^^

if he's the type of guy to run off on his wife after only a few months of marriage, and screw over a whole bunch of shareholders and throw his hard earned company away, I would imagine he's also the same sort of guy who could squander a fortune in a few years. its not as hard as you would think. also, some people like to work. it can be the only thing the newly rich have to keep them grounded and if he did run away hes obviously not very grounded.

I dont believe any this BS anyway. He could be out there playing the stock market (sure way to lose a fortune) or trying to start up a secret mine of his own... no one knows, or at least if they do... they aint talking (paid off?)

the board was awful quiet, FC's partners had very little to say... whole thing stinks.
507  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: newbie on: August 06, 2015, 09:19:35 PM
true, the white paprer is a bit intensive for any non-geek, but OP should at least have a look at this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7269.0 before blindly wandering in. there is a lot to get familiar with.

also, OP, experiment with various wallets using very small transactions... they say that is what faucets are good for... getting small amounts of btc to experiment with.

as for using multiples of the same wallet client on the same machine... you don't need to, or at least i dont know why you would want to... for example... if you have one multibit client, you can create new wallets within it (look at the left panel on the UI)

I think you can have multiple online wallets from the same provider... I've never bothered to try it, dont use online wallets much, they arent secure. but if you must, i would suppose you could make multiple accounts with multiple emails and usernames.

it just sounds like a recipie for disaster though. If you cant hardly understand how to use btc in the first place why do you want to multiply that by piling up many wallets? Keep it simple, learn the ropes... then go nuts.

thats just my advice. good luck.
508  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Cheap FFFFound.com invitation for sale (get your ffffound.com account now) on: August 06, 2015, 11:36:20 AM
How much do you ask for it?

I just remembered that I made a ffffound account years ago but haven't posted anything on it, so I have a virginal account (technically the same as a fresh invited account)

Now that I've remembered it, I actually might start using it, so I won't sell, but I'm curious... What are you asking?
509  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin website. on: August 06, 2015, 10:46:41 AM
I think you have to ask yourself "what can my site offer that is not available elsewhere"

Find that and you will find followers...

I think a lot of us are thinking about that very same problem...

There are already forums, news sites, price and data charting sites... Many apps that combine data and news plus wallets and services...

What can you do to be different?

I know there is much info in Chinese that never gets translated, Asia is a huge source of info that tends to stay there because of the language barrier, just Huboi alone...

Heck, it's like a whole other internet over there, I'm not sure if just having translator on your site is enough. You would need bilingual researchers to scan Asia language sites and be able to edit.

It's actually kind of hard to fully understand what you are asking for... Are you asking for content ideas?
510  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in Merriam-Webster's Dictionary on: August 06, 2015, 10:16:27 AM
I know Oxford takes submissions from the general public, or they used to? You must cite where you have seen it in print or where you have heard it... "D'oh!" Is in there ffs

Anyway, send it in, with definition and citation and they will take note. I'm sure they have seen it and are just waiting to see if it's still around in a year or two. These scholarly types, they never want to appear to be wrong. If they think btc might die, they won't want to put it in now only to remove it later.

Just cuz they know words don't mean they understand cryptos.

Either that or they are trying to aggregate all the related terminology first, like cryptocurrency blockchain, satoshis etc. there's a lot of new words that you need to use to even define Bitcoin and none of them are in the dictionary yet.

I wonder what their protocol for such a situation is?
511  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Select, worldwide bitcoin and cryptocurrency news if you don't follow full time? on: August 06, 2015, 09:56:21 AM
I have several BTC apps on my iOS most that I downloaded as price watchers/charts, but they all offer a "news" page. Usually many stories aggregated from various sources. I find I read the news page of ZeroBlock app most often. They get news from coindesk, coin telegraph, bitcoinwarrior,  Motherboard, even  more mainstream news sources like TIME, Wall Street Journal, The Gaurdian, Business Insider, Wired, Money&Tech...reddit and more.

They do a really good job finding anything BTC related and actually noteworthy, from all over the web.

I check it in the morning and later in the evening, and I get almost all my btc news that way. Later when I check bitcointalk I see most the same stories make it to the "press" section and I've already read them.

Recommended

*I am not affiliated with ZeroBlock in any way, it's just the best place to get quick news from all around IMHO

I'll be watching this one... out of morbid curiosity more than anything.

is that correct that the maximum shares one user can buy is ALL of them? all 1000000 shares?

that part seems a little odd.

also, what happens if the btc/usd price tanks? for a few weeks? for a few months? all year?

we also need more info as to who you are and where to find you... some pool's addy isnt any good, can you verify that?

just sayin'
514  Economy / Speculation / Re: is it a good idea to buy bitcoins now ? will bitcoin go up or down in next 2-3 y on: August 06, 2015, 03:24:43 AM
anyone wise will be loath to hand out financial advice especially with regards to speculation... but i will throw caution to the wind and say yes. i think, if you have any "spare" money... disposable income, that is... you should for sure invest it in btc... its what i do.

but remember Huh, DON'T INVEST MORE THAN YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE. no one knows (not even Satoshi) where this "experiment" will end up.

of course, if you are here, you must be at least a bit of a believer.

good luck!
515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why hash rate dropped so much? on: August 05, 2015, 10:47:06 PM
hasn't blockchain.info been outed as basically 100% inaccurate and unreliable? besides, the link in this thread doesn't show the hash rate decreasing on my end... it just isn't increasing as rapidly.

Most of the miners are in China, I wouldn't be surprised, as soon as they are not profitable any more, to see them simply throw all the hardware in the river. Not the most environmentally, sustainability concerned nation... (not that the rest of the world is much better, but the Chinese are particularly toxic in regards of disposal of old computer hardware.... there are whole towns and cities that are basically toxic waste dumps... people living right in it)
516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Safety awareness of bitcoin users on: August 05, 2015, 10:39:23 PM
ok, i filled it out, hope you get the data you need.

one thing though, since you are studying criminal justice, you should consider this;

you should mention something about ponzis and other fraudulent investments. many lose btc to these, and due to the unregulated nature of the btc network, this may continue to be a threat for a long time. I realize people lose fiat the same way all the time, but the relative anonymity and irreversibility of btc transactions make these scams particularly attractive when done using btc. Its a HUGE security concern, just like in the old fashioned fiat world... maybe worse here in btc-land

Are shareholders searching for him or is it a case of "nobody cares enough"?

from what I can figure out, the biggest shareholders were the earliest investors, so they had taken several times their initial investment already. There was the board of directors too (weren't you on it SebastianJu?) and I think they either got wind of this BS early and cashed out (several dumps for almost a year before FC split) or they simply were like the former group mentioned... they had already taken great profits and AM proper has already more than fulfilled their shareholder obligations, so ... why bother?

there might be some burned whales out there looking, but I certainly wouldn't announce my actions in public (here) if I was organizing a manhunt.

I'm pretty sure the rest of us have cashed out and taken the pittance we could for our useless shares.

I'd still like to see FC get his due, his exit was shabby move indeed.

one day he will turn up working for bitfury or some other chip designer

then we take to social media and get him fired
518  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-08-05] Major Legal Services Company Starts to Accept Bitcoin Payments on: August 05, 2015, 09:54:37 PM
again, coinyoo cannot get past my malwarebytes client  Tongue

tyz posts coinyoo links a lot, and nobody else seems to have any problems, including the mods, so I'm assuming coinyoo is ok

anyone know why malwarebytes (PRO) rejects it for me?

anyway, i looked at the article here==> http://www.streetinsider.com/Press+Releases/Lawyer.com+%E2%80%8Bis%E2%80%8B+First+Major+Legal+%E2%80%8BServices+Company+to+Accept+Bitcoin+Payments/10775711.html

My first impression of lawyers.com is the same as TV lawyers... probably not the best legal representation out there.

I've never used their service. I guess for simple things like writing wills and making rental agreements they'd be fine

but for more serious stuff, I think I'd need more personalized service... like a lawyer somebody I know and trust recommends...

maybe Mark Karepeles will give them a test drive... then we can see what kind of legal wizards they have in there... LOL

Mt.Gox Scandal: French-born Mark Karpeles, head of the failed Mt Gox Bitcoin exchange, was arrested in Tokyo. The arrest comes eight months after Japanese police said they were confident the incident that saw most of the Bitcoin held by Mt Gox evaporate was the result of fraudulent transactions.

look at the top picture. look at the snow falling and the bearded guy wearing a winter coat and a scarf. now look at mark.

i love it when guys are so fat that they are impervious to cold weather. LOL.

he's like a little kid, not a CEO... what did anyone expect? that he'd be straight-forward, accountable, responsible?

he acted like a spoiled 5 year old and many many people paid dearly

and just like DPR*, hes going to deny, deny, deny, until they find him (rightfully) guilty, then he'll cry, say "I'm sorry, I didn't know what I was doing!"

all the way to jail

we need some adults in this industry

not crybaby millennials who expect a free pass at every turn

even when they are knowingly flouting the law

*I know, I know, there's more to the DPR story than plain old fraud, yet he sure didn't want to own up to anything that he did do, and when the jig was up he basically said..."but I thought I was a Good Guy...sorry"

there's no way he didn't realize the severity of his actions and the seriousness of its criminal implications.

its like these kids think the "court of public opinion" is higher than the law.

"Don't do the crime if you cant do the time" should have the addendum; "Twitter aint going to help you now"

but I digress,

DPR had a lot of supporters on ideological grounds.

Mark K has zero friends.

Can someone help out with the punchline?

This thread has converted to bitcoin price discussion thread. Nothing to see here.

ok, here's one...

how many bitcoin devs does it take to screw in a light bulb?

possibly just one, but it takes 5 hours and at least 6 confirmations to actually light up
