581  Economy / Gambling / Re: Dream Islands lottery (win up to 20BTC jackpot) on: May 18, 2012, 05:05:33 PM
Since it's getting closer to 1st June (when this round finishes).I'd curious as to who else wants to enter? If not,I'd like feedback on what's discouraging people from entering the games as I've felt that I've done a lot to try to make things better but something just doesn't fit. It's ok for people to buy multiple tickets as well. The main website has been updated with info and the use of another payment method has been added (via bitpay).

Another thing to know, when the winner is picked, the person only has 48 hours to claim their prize. If the winner doesn't claim in that time.Another random selection will happen and the person chosen from this will be the winner (still random but keeps things moving).

If anyone is interested in entering, you have the power to make that jackpot bigger (so that you can have a nice jackpot if you win).
Don't miss out on the jackpot simply because you didn't enter.Make sure that doesn't happen to you.

Thanks for helping to expose more problematic aspects of microcash BitcoinEXpress.I did wonder what was up with the part where a portion of money gets taken away from every user wallet (a tax maybe).Of course it has to do with that CPF (Coin protection fund) because why else would a 'tax' be required. In bitcoin this is just the transaction fee that goes to the miners processing payments from other people. In SC/Microcash the 'tax' goes to 1 person who owns the CPF.

It's important that people know about this 'tax', especially if you are the type of person who thinks that Microcash is some great new currency. It's not. It's just a revision of SolidCoin.

Is he still posting or signing in here? Do you have his Facebook or other personal details?

If not I really doubt anyone would consider buying the debt from you.

I haven't seen TheLastDovah since last night.Heard nothing from him.I don't have his facebook or other personal info which means he's probably run off with the BTC.

Could you ask admins on the forum for his ip? I know this is 1 step too far but they might be able to supply the info if you really need it.

Thanks for your concern but the admins have already labeled him a scammer.Justice has been done. One of the admins contacted me earlier. He asked for extra info, I gave him what he needed to know and the culprit was labeled a scammer after that.I won't be seeing that 4BTC again but this isn't much.I do plan to sell debt as I saw a couple of threads on here (in auctions) that went well. One was to do with shakaru (or something) I think. Justice has been done,so I'm not really that worried about it really.

To be honest I was drawn into this because of the good sounding interest rate but still losing something to get the interest simply isn't worth it.4BTC certainly isn't much but if I can sell off the debt, I can make an example of what happens to people who don't pay their loans.I'm sure all lenders are interested in getting their money back one way or another.
586  Economy / Lending / Re: Lend me 4 BTC repay 5 BTC tommorow! on: May 16, 2012, 04:43:25 PM
Looks like I'm out of 4BTC.Time to sell off the debt somehow. How do lenders sell off debts on here?Collateral was offered but never given to me.

next time get the collateral first.
I'l certainly bear that in mind next time Chaang. Thanks for the tip Smiley

The attitudes expressed reveal the best thing for me to do is start my own forum.

Yes, in your own forum you can ban and censor all you like just like the solidcoin forum!

Smiley

If there is one thing I truly respect (after freedom of expression and trialling of ideas), it's that one idea (Bitcoin) can lead to diversity and expansion into new markets and audiences.Take me for example.I'm a filmmaker who wishes to expand my audience. How do I do that? Well I actually encourage those to create their own branches and offer localised versions of my films (ie subtitled into the local languages, cutting or adding scenes not present in my main film or offering a compelling alternative to all other options in their respective markets) either for a fee or free (depends on the film and it's contents)

Ok.Some people will turn out to be a little mean but that's ok.Because other people will then use those oppourtunities to create their idea of what it right for them. Once the best ideas catch on, the majority will switch to the newly created alternatives and the cycle repeats itself. I'd like to create my own forums again (I used to from 2008 til 2011) as I feel I can try out different approaches which may work out. People who like the forums will stay, people don't will simply move on. The great power of diversity.

An example of when diversity hasn't gone well is the SolidCoin forums. It started off as something good, then it regressed to the point that people wanted to create something better (like the soldcoin fork of SolidCoin currency) and left Solidcoin in larger and larger numbers expect for those either loyal or those who really liked the idea.

I'm glad I came accross this thread. Most of what is discussed here so far I agree with, that we need to report and cleanup the forum of the trolls.I do wonder though why the powers that be aren't more proactive in cleaning up trolls like I'm used to seeing on all other forums.Maybe we should bring focus to the user experience on here.

To the poster who said, you don't have to tolerate insults under the guise of free speech, that attitude I commend, and in the UK we follow an approach where we try to strike a balance (no one gets it right all the time but hey, beats being trolled). I wish more sites and people followed a more balanced approach in freedom of expression instead of either absolute free expression (which the trolls thrive on) and absolute censorship (which control obsessed people thrive on and prevents valid criticism from improving things as well as just being free to go about daily business without excessive interference)

In the past some of the mods and bitcoin developers would have had to have been banned for trolling if these were the rules. If this was the UK one of the mods/bitcoin developers would be in court right now over unfounded defamation and slander.

This forum lets you say whatever you like as long as it is on topic, and legal in the USA/Japan. Only thing we can't do is sell something illegal or pay for violence. I'm pretty happy the way things are and if you do not like some of the trolls you can use the "ignore".

No reason to limit other peoples experience because you got upset about having to listen to someones opinion. (Yes, please ignore me now if you wish!)

Smiley

It's ok.I see no reason to ignore you as you raise an intersting point. It gives me a wider view of how people see things. The UK isn't as harsh as people think (although I could have explained it a little better). No one in UK just gets dragged to court over an online forum post. That wouldn't make sense. The only laws that come to play depend on what happened. So if a person posted something racist, then the racial equality laws would apply but because laws are famous for not keeping up with changes in technology (the internet is not tied to the laws of one country-thats the point of it), I think it is more important to listen to people to see where the common ground is (for example we all agree that racism is not ok or that stealing isn't ok.) It's just the way of life.

As for the ignore feature,I'd like to learn how to use it as the forum does provide tools to help relieve certain types of issues. That is good to see. Like I said before, seeking a balance of freedom vs right not to be harassed is never easy and no one can get it right 100% of the time, this is why people keep fine tuning things to make them better.

It's also worth noting that the laws of the forum will have to follow where ever it is physically hosted (if servers are in US/Japan,then forum has to follow the laws of US/Japan-that means allowing freedom of expression in this case)

591  Economy / Services / Re: De-troll Bitcoin on: May 16, 2012, 11:23:06 AM
It's for websites like reddit, etc, where groups of misinformed individuals will spread their FUD at a rate faster than the few supporters can respond to, making it an unfair and bias debate that basically is unapproachable from all sides.

Oh shit.

If I am curious but uninformed, and I meet a literal army of proselytizing Bitcoiners I'm going to turn really sceptical really fast.

Edited to add: The word "de-trolling" makes me cringe. Set the facts straight, by all means, but never try and fight a troll in a stand up fight.
As the saying goes: "Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience."

Thanks for the advice elux.Important things to bear in mind. Perceptions can make or break ideas (and currencies).

Anything to finally combat the problem of trolling is welcome for me.On most forums I've been on,this isn't such a big problem (as the few trolls who remain get dealt with quickly by the mods) .Why is this the only forum I find, that this is an issue?

The de-trolling we're talking about isn't for this forum. It's for websites like reddit, etc, where groups of misinformed individuals will spread their FUD at a rate faster than the few supporters can respond to, making it an unfair argument. The astroturfing they effectively do causes Bitcoin to look bad even when it hasn't done anything wrong. The only way to handle it is to mow the astroturf. They do it with Bitcoiners, I don't see what we can't do it to them in reverse.

Also, problem with this forum is also one of its greatest experimental benefits: More freedom.
Ok.Nice to clarify that this isn't about the forum (as such) as that would have helped me by responding to what the de-trolling was actually about. I hear many people go on about freedom and frankly I want to know where people draw the line online. In UK it is much clearer where the line is drawn for me and internet sites in Europe. Freedom for me is about expression/freedom from offence.Trolling isn't freedom,it just devalues the efforts of the community by people spreading FUD and then others have to chase after the trolls, everytime.Isn't it time a solution was implemented that strikes a good balance between right to expression/having a quality experience without being in fear of being trolled all the time.

Id like to see more auctions for mining services like this in future as this is now sold to the highest bidder.
597  Economy / Lending / Re: Lend me 4 BTC repay 5 BTC tommorow! on: May 15, 2012, 10:05:26 PM
Ok OP it's now time to pay up. Please repay to this address 1Dr4XpwsZfTY6kbdmgkCgfPvNxYg59k2gQ asap for 5BTC (for 4BTC I lent you).
If any of you online see the OP,please tell him its time to pay up.
Edit:Late payment will result in late fees being charged unless an extension is agreed with me due to circumstances.Paying on time means no late fees will be charged. This is to deter scammers and odd behaviour (read the gorgo1 loan threads to see what I mean)
598  Economy / Lending / Re: Lend me 4 BTC repay 5 BTC tommorow! on: May 15, 2012, 08:07:47 PM
This is a reminder OP.In a few hours time, you need to repay 5BTC (for loan of 4BTC) back.Repay to this address when you are able: 1Dr4XpwsZfTY6kbdmgkCgfPvNxYg59k2gQ
Thank you.

Check his post history.  It's all Marketplace->Goods and Lending... Lots of prepaid cards and codes.  You should have done your research before just giving your coins out willy nilly.

Ok.I'll certainly look into that. Thanks for bring that to my attention Tomatocage.
Edit:I've checked him out and so far the responses seem rather slow/non-existent in the sections you've mentioned tomatocage. Not looking good so far.Question is can/will he pay me back?
I've heard that you can sell debts of defaulters on here but still,it'd be better if I get repaid soon. He does seem to sell a lot of prepaid codes/cards though.
