Wanted to get some but not sure

Do you guys think the lightening network will affect this coin in any way?

No. The timetable is way off, and even then, I do not think they could do all the things IOTA is planning. IOTA is being developed to be the backbone of the IOT.

As long as XMR (and the whole market) is linked to BTC, don't think we will see $777 anytime in the first half of 2018.

With futures in high gear, an explosive Bitcoin surge is possible, so being linked is not a limiting factor in and of itself. I think it's healthier for XMR not be tied to Bitcoin, but that will require more avenues to trade fiat for XMR.

Is there any connection of IOTA to Bitfinex? Because the currency represented only on Bitfinex (among big exchanges)

It's also on Binance, which is a large exchange.

As for a conection, I don't think any more of a conection other than Bitfinix is a place to trade cryptos and IOTA is a crypto.

I've a feeling that connections are playing limited impact on people's psychology these days, except for the very very young newcomers who'll not recognize that all exchanges eventually end up like each other (look at Binance for example) and that once they get big, you just need to pay them a fee to get listed. Of course the benefit of being able to trade a coin quickly on a variety of platforms will do good for the price, but this has little impact on the long term. Can you imagine even XRB is now competing with Iota?

What's with people thinking XRB and IOTA are competitors? M2M (IOTA's goal) and P2P (RaiBlock's goal) are not the same thing. If anything XRB is competing with Ripple and the thousands of other currencies flooding the P2P market.

The similarity comes from both being DAG coins

That's a shallow similarity as their endusers are different, which is why I wrote, "What's with people thinking XRB and IOTA are competitors? M2M (IOTA's goal) and P2P (RaiBlock's goal) are not the same thing." This would be like saying Bitcoin and Monero are both anonymous because they use POW.

If you are saying that people are shallow and don't know what they are talking about and their ignorance is the culprit of why they keep making the comparison--you wouldn't get any disagreement for me. I was asking for the human root, not the continued basis on which the presumption is inaccurately built upon.
585  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Why are all coins going down on: January 08, 2018, 02:34:52 PM
Why? Volatility.

This is just another day in cryptoland--if this sort of thing shakes your confidence, you should probably get out or stop looking (IE get a hobby to take your mind off of it).

I don't even know why what the big deal is with those coins. You can run Bitcoin and Monero through Tor, am I missing something?

You are  missing moon logic.

Moon logic states that the lower the market cap, the more easily a coin can grow and claims of "Best Privet Coin Ever!" are always true and developers would never lie or exagerate.
594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 06, 2018, 11:59:15 AM

Call a spade a spade. The fact that we have healthy enough governance to routinely hard fork is amiable. We should pronounce it proudly. Call it a routine hard fork.

People are just basically idiots there is nothing we can do about it but dumb things down.
I don't understand what you are saying... ELI5?

Feel like that is too advanced for many--maybe a ELI3-6months.
595  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA is the next big thing on: January 05, 2018, 05:47:46 PM
IOTA seems a little bit slow for growing. People already started to cancel their long term investment on IOTA. And after hdac is in i am sure many people will prefer hdac instead of iota. Because it is going to be pumped by koreans for sure.

Sounds like wishful thinking on your part, but I'll ask anyways, where are you pulling the data that leads you to believe people are pulling their long term investment? The price is stabilized 10x the price at the first post of this thread, so the price seems to be indicating that long term players, like myself, are happy with development. I was surprised it never dipped below $2 TBH and would have been grateful for the opportunity.
596  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 05, 2018, 04:14:20 PM

Yea i doubt that very much. Wishful thinking in light of knowing better.
The competition for monero is rising very rapidly, both in community and technology.
It's fair to say that now Wraith is active on Verge, it has technically surpassed Monero. And they already had a much bigger community behind them.
And then we have Spectre being technically similar but going environmentally friendly with PoS.
Tbh i can only see Monero go down from here, probably back to around 0.008-0.012 btc levels.

Yea yea, i know you're all going to hate on me now and say they are shitcoins.
Try bringing some solid arguments this time instead of just brainless bashing.

Spectre coin still has yet to release how they are going to make anonymous POS. It's vaporware until they drop it on testnet or show their maths. It's easy to make claims, it's impossible (at least in a cryptosystem) to make these claims real if you don't have the math to back you up. I'm getting anoyed at having to deal with idiots like you who just assume things are possible based on "because the devs said so." Seriously, after Vanilla coin, no one should take the word of a dev who hasn't proven themselves in the field. You're free to do stupid things with your money, so please do them--i'd love if you couldn't even afford wifi.

@generalizethis

while i do think it's a smart approach to not blindly believe in every coin a bct-member is trying to shill because they're heavily invested in it themselves, i don't understand your overly negative attitude towards spectrecoin.

i've been following this project for a couple of months now, and so far, the developer has delivered everything he promised.

if you are genuinely interested in technical aspects, you can ask the dev. any question on the project's slack channel.

It's a pretty major claim to be offering anonymous POS, so big that it should be in the top 25 if true--the fact that the devs have avoided major press releases and have eschewed code audits and haven't even offered a white paper to outline how they intend to implement this great feat should be worrisome for any potential investor. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't want at least the examinable proof to this claim, and no one should buy based on promises. It's called hype for a reason and be prepared to be disappointed if you buy into it.

And I'm not going out of my way to waste my time on their slack. Either put out a white paper or let us review the code, anything less is unacceptable.

Any coin that claims to be private and has a rich list is already suspect--add industry changing innovations and I'm ready to call scam. So provide proof or stfu. I'm getting annoyed that my points are being questioned as they should be self evident.

--They claim anonymous POS even though this doesn't exist and they haven't given an answer as to how they will achieve it.

--There is no historical evidence provided to show the devs are capable of such an inovation.

You only need to address those two points. I will happily invest if you could manage that satisfactorily--serioulsy, I love new stuff if it seems reasonable that it will work as promised.

Easy to remember tip:
if it claims it's private,
but has a rich list,
it's NOT legit--it's shit.
