Gotta be some piece of news...can't seem to find anything  Huh

The only news is that Bitcoin was vastly under-priced and is correcting.

No big deal. It's still far too early to post trains and rockets.

Sinking ships, exploding rockets and derailing trains are equally silly.

What, so everyone suddenly realized at the same time that it is under-priced??  Brilliant deduction there..

Or just another short squeeze. Billyjoeljean figured the whole thing out. The 4 Punch something....
582  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-11-1] CCE - Intel Compute Stick and Bitcoin on: January 15, 2015, 05:15:45 AM
This is a misleading article. The blockchain is already more than 27GB in size already and growing at a rate of more than 1GB per month.

Not misleading at all. It has a USB port if you want to add an external HDD to run a full node. Alternatively you could also insert a microSD card for storage. That doesn't even require thinking "outside of the box" lol.

THIS IS ALL MANIPULATION from the Four Punch Raiders

C'mon- all these posts from new accounts like who in the hell would be just now getting into BTC? This is all part of the FPR's plan. It's gonna shoot up to maybe $240, then crash back down to under $200 before the real short squeeze reversal up to even $350.

I'm thinking of even playing the pause selling at over $240 and then buying back in below $200.

the problem is that after the short squeeze and the second bounce, it will again go into free fall. I guess that's good because I will have made so much $$$ that I can load up, but damn, this is not good for Bitcoin.

I have to agree with you.  "Oh poor little me, I don't even know what a bull trap is, please explain. And what is CCMF?"  Yeah, of course you're just getting into bitcoin and you just read the white paper. Not fooling anyone.

This thread is weird beyond weird sometimes.

My trading coins have seen a 940% return in the past 3 days. Billyjoealien is the man! I was going to tip him a few 100 bucks in bitcoin, but then he didn't respond to my PM's asking for more advice....it doesn't pay to be rude Tongue

I have a job. I was at work. Besides, I don't believe you. You said you leveraged up 30:1 and that's not really an option. But if it is true, I'm glad I could be of service. Consider it a gift. gratis.

I was leveraged 20:1, I don't think I ever said 30:1 and if I did it was a typo.

WOW. I just went full retard  (lots of coins) and shorted on 20x leverage all the way from $235 to $223 and made BANK. I have a nice little new found wealth Smiley

So no 200$ Bottom prediction, just this pattern to no end?

The pattern repeats, but it gets flatter each time. It is my hope that by exposing it, there will be so much demand for coins to front-run the pattern that we can stop it, but eventually it has to stop anyway as diminishing returns will have to yield to fundamentals at some point.

We can beat them by joining them and then defecting from the cartel at the most opportune time. This will be on the retest of whatever the new low will be in the low low $200s (AFTER the next cycle).  An extremely rich person can do it now on the retest of $255 support, but I don't have anywhere close to enough clout to even attempt it myself.

Used your tactic today. Increased my trading bitcoins by 170% thanks! If it continues working I'll send you a kick back.

She's either a dodohead or really thinks the whole 'like' thing gives her an edge media-wise or sounds cool. However, if it's the latter she's not really taking into account who the target audience currently is and what the, like, average iq level is around these parts. Last I checked, I'm in the mid to higher 120s and am probably at the lower level of the spectrum around cryptoland.

Cryptoland has changed quite a bit and the average IQ will continue to drop as it becomes more mainstream. The reporter is mainly concerned with Bitcoins price without looking at what the actual technology can do. She most likely views bitcoin as a stock investment where its only importance is price and gains.

Also Bitstamp being hacked and losing Bitcoins (which is now back up and running without customers losing funds) has nothing to do with Bitpay. She also sees every hack/loss as the same, even when the Bitpay co-founder stated that they are learning from other peoples mistakes so that they don't make the same mistakes.

I highly doubt she has ever used bitcoin and she probably has no clue how it actually works. Price movement is usually the only importance to these types of reporters.
589  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-01-09] marketwatch: Overstock to offer staff option of being paid in BTC on: January 11, 2015, 09:46:28 AM
This is a significant first step.

Has anyone listened to earnings calls to know whether they are holding any Bitcoin on their corporate ledger?

That would also be a big step.

Last I saw was a quote from Overstock CEO stating that they currently don't hold any of the bitcoins, but they plan to in the future as their suppliers start accepting coins for payments.
590  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-11-1] CCE - Intel Compute Stick and Bitcoin on: January 11, 2015, 09:00:34 AM

Intel just recently announced that they intend to issue a computer-on-a-stick called the Compute Stick...The Windows 8.1 version of this comes with 1.33GHz Intel Atom processor, 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, HDMI output and a microSD port and will retail for $149....Basically, it's cheap and portable computer and it can easily hold a Bitcoin wallet or even run a full Bitcoin node....One look at it and ordinary Bitcoin users might immediately think of using it for cold storage or as a cheap way to run a full Bitcoin node to support the network. The Compute Stick could alternatively be used to create paper wallets.

http://cryptocoineconomics.com/content/intel-compute-stick-and-bitcoin

The linux version will only be $89 and could serve as a great way to increase the number of full bitcoin nodes running. They don't have a lot of internal space, but it would be easy to expand with either USB storage or adding a micoSD card to it.
591  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 11, 2015, 07:32:09 AM
Oh god. Just find some goddamn support. I been waiting for months.
The biggest obstacle is time. Still too many people think altcoins may be an answer, so they are holding off on Bitcoin. Ether pumpers got kicked in the teeth by IBM. CPY pumpers got slapped by Overstock. Merge mined parasites don't prove their mettle  Folks gotta realize that Bitcoin is the PoW the heavyweight champ that paid its dues.

What did IBM do/say about Ether? --Not that I own any at all.

I'm all BTC, Monero (XMR) and Counterparty (XCP). I think those 3 will be the most useful coins in the future.

BTC = Open P2P ledger
XMR = True anonymity digital cash
XCP = Smart contracts, digital assets etc (Built on top of bitcoin network)
592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Overstock Offers It's Staff The Option To Be Paid In Bitcoin on: January 10, 2015, 03:10:29 AM
I assume that there's an option to be able to get a % of one's paycheck in bitcoin rather than the whole thing as this would make the most sense for those looking to test the waters. Kind of like the option to add to one's 401k every check yet keeping the bulk of it in fiat to pay certain monthly and weekly bills until these said bills can be paid in bitcoin altogether. Perhaps the next step would be for O-stock to match employees up to a certain % if they were to put a portion into bitcoin and hold it for X amount of time. It's like a way for the employer to look out for the future finances of their employees even if they aren't savvy enough to do so, like bribing. Wink

Yeah it appears that one overstock employee is going to start with 5% of his salary in bitcoin, so I assume they have that as an option: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2rw5iy/my_work_installed_this_kiosk_this_morning/
593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Financial "Advisors" on: January 07, 2015, 06:20:43 AM

I've had the opportunity to interview financial advisors recently for other stuff. But at some point I always pop the question: "What do you think of bitcoin?"

It's interesting. They never recommend it, and often have no idea what it is.

Today I was at table with four "advisors".
Response #1: "bit what? What is that?"
Response #2: "don't get into Bitcoin. It can be used to buy anything on the Internet but it is only used to buy guns and bad stuff. However I met a tall skinny guy who has invented an alternative to Bitcoin and his is going to be perfect when he launches it."

Then another went into conspiracy theories that all the financial systems of the world would collapse and that people would embrace a one-world currency imposed by some government.

I wonder what his point was when he mentioned "a tall skinny guy", does that add positive ethos to his statement?

Unfortunately that doesn't tell me where checking/savings accounts come in to play. Is that M0? What exactly are "bank reserves " that make up M1? Do stocks and bonds fall into M2?
596  Economy / Economics / Base Money vs. M1 vs. M2 on: January 04, 2015, 06:28:21 AM
Can someone quickly give a non-finance guy the layman's definition for these terms?

Base Money: Actual USD in circulation?
M1: Checking/savings account, travelers checks?
M2: M1 + other assets like stocks/bonds?

A little perspective from looking back at the crashes of the past.

At least this time we don't have one single point of failure like when gox halted trading in the crash from 266 to what? 70?

At least this time trades are getting filled and people are getting what they want. You want to sell? Sure! Plenty of liquidity at these prices. You want to buy? No problem! A veritable flood of sellers.

I wonder if these high volume events are just an indication of price discovery at work. We may need to get used to sub 300 because there seems to be plenty of liquidity on either side of this price.

285 to 275 sideways range for next couple weeks would suit me just fine.

I don't know how you people make money with crashing prices. I have to learn how to trade this year Undecided

Short selling. Check out bitfinex

Monero FAQ: Why is a private currency important?

Obvious most discussion and information exchange about operating serious Dark Markets is private.
But what can be offered as "proof" or source:
Thank you very much. I keep this post for future reference.

Escrow, donation: I updated the list. G2M, since you did not mention you asked for escrow, I assume your donation will be unconditional - correct me if I'm wrong.

Monero*--a decentralized anonymous currency.

Freebazaar*--a decentralized market for Monero that IS NOT part of the official GUI.

FreeBazaar is an external project and any progress being made on it will be listed under the "external projects" section of the missives. External projects are projects the core team has no impact upon and neither condemn nor condone but still consider impactful enough to be mentionned. Note to self: think about adding this as small letters on our future missives.

Hey guys it seems like there may be many different versions of the Monero website such as the dev team's website, the MEW website and others. I'm looking to see if I can raise $70-$100 in either BTC or XMR to buy a domain and cover some of the web host cost. If I receive the funding I will start working on a brand new Monero website that will be visually appealing, it will inform the general public of what Monero is, how to get started, guides on setting up a wallet, mining, current XMR exchanges, emission information, what's currently in development and just a bunch of other information for your average joe and even computer nerd to get started with Monero.

My XMR address is: 4AGDFtUJggTcdMqCefhWzQ9FcmfnPohHiZBQMzsVk5XbE9bPogW8UB9bbzWEQrYXcDQRYh7oyuHF2CM 78oaD4FXbVCfnmwF
My BTC address is: 14qx4wQbKn8gm75E3EJeaoP5kuHNomjWgf

I know there is very few people that are willing to donate to support various efforts that could potentially take BTC and Monero to the next level, but I figure it's worth a shot to see what kind of response I can get from the XMR community. Lets finally try to get a nice website setup for our cryptocurrency Cheesy

P.S. Also if you donate please leave a post or shoot me a PM so I know who to thank later.
Now this is something.
I approached you when you proposed to help with the MEW website. Domain name is taken care of, webserver is taken care of. Now you are talking about creating yet-another-website. This makes me question your willingness to work on the MEW website, which is supposed to be exactly what you describe.

Understandably, I am concerned about your actual involvement. I'd much prefer you withdraw your proposal to help for the MEW website if you prefer to focus on your very own website. I do not believe you could have more than one iron in the fire and, more importantly, I do not want to have to deal with another case of constant delaying.

But since, in the meantime, you send me a PM asking for what the MEW site would be, I hope this is just a misunderstanding and both your and our goals will meet in the shape of the MEW website.

Update: I have no issue with you asking for donation but it you work for the MEW website, MEW shall escrow this money, since the reputation of MEW would be engaged.

Monero (as a virtual cash) should be usable regardless of whether governments are okay with it. To me that's the entire point.
And this is already the case, since it is decentralised and open-source. So I really don't see why you are concerned.

For the MEW site I was only given the standard drupal blackend login to site #1, but to create and/or modify any theme to our needs I would need FTP access, which I wasn't given. Now you and arctice mine are talking about site URL #2. If I'm going to work on the MEW site there needs to be at least 1 site consistancy, I would need FTP access and potentially DB access ( ie phpmyadmin) if we want to add any custom uses to the site. Also for content we should not have single pages that cover 10 topics and thousand+ words, that needs to be broken down and organized. With that being said I hope I would have some influence to the actual content posted as well.

We can take this discussion back to PMs if you like or keep it all public, up to you.
