661  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANN] [PI metal detector private shares with 50% profits] by alcurEX CEO on: July 04, 2015, 11:02:29 PM
so this is like a really simplified mining discovery project? i lost money on kenilworth, which promised similar things (real world gold mining offering btc profits) they vanished into thin air.

i would be extremely cautious about this offering. it seems too much like a weird idea designed to distract investors from doing proper research. proper research will tell you mining discovery is rarely profitable, and looking for gold with a metal detector almost profitless altogether. metal detectors only read down about 4 inches. actual gold discovery teams utilize a LOT more tech and knowledge than some guy wandering around the outback with a solar powered metal detector.
662  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Reflections on the 4 July fork on: July 04, 2015, 10:33:17 PM
the more stuff like this split happens, the more i feel that one day it will be fatal. fortunately it looks like no double spends happened this time, but 3 years in the bitcoin world and ive seen every type of double-dealing and scam happen, even by those you would never expect it.

we got off easy this time, but what if this split had enabled bad actors to pull a massive fraud? that would crash btc to nothing.
663  Economy / Speculation / Re: nyxbt could make bitcoin go much higher in price on: July 04, 2015, 09:52:13 PM
I dont think it will have very much effect on the price just yet. its an idex, simply shows the averaged value of btc based on daily trades, such info is already available if you look. what it does do is add a new layer of legitimacy to btc, which, in the long run is good. when the ETFs and such sort of vehicles for allowing new investors a chance to properly exploit market movements show up, then we will see a slow but steady climb.

TL;DR the nyxbt isn't the sunny day you are looking for, its the weather report.
664  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-03] Hot Dogs for Bitcoin in Vegas ∙ IHB News™ on: July 04, 2015, 08:57:35 PM
If I was involved in any sort of retail I would absolutely have a pay with BTC option set up. Why not? The tiny amount of BTC I would most likely get would be around the same amount I purchase every month anyways. Straight into my ledger wallet and I've even garnered some free publicity.
665  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-04]'Fresh Bitcoins are better': BlockTrail Mint sells freshly mined BTC on: July 04, 2015, 08:53:15 PM
This is ridiculous, they are hoping to exploit the fears of law abiding citizens that old BTC have been tarnished by being used for illegal activity. The whole mint company will probably turn out to be just another scam. I'll be watching with morbid curiosity
666  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-02] wired.co.uk: Reid Hoffman: Why the block chain matters on: July 04, 2015, 08:40:25 PM
I'm a huge fan of the press section here, I simply don't always have anything of value to add. This is a pretty good article, but it's like a lot of the press BTC is seeing these days... They need an angle to sell the story and blockchain tech is it. I can only hope these pieces get read and eventually sink in at the consumer level.

As for Wired magazine... Hate to say it but they maybe have an image of being complimentary regarding tech (they are a tech mag) and therefore maybe not the most objective. Still, as far as tech news goes, they seem to be the authority.

I'm wondering how long these "blockchain will revolutionize everything" stories take to actually affect the price.
667  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-01] CT - BTCGreece Founder: Bitcoin Demand Has Risen by 400% on: July 04, 2015, 08:25:19 PM
It would have been nice if he had talked about actual numbers.
The original base of Bitcoin users could have been very small.
Exactly what I was thinking. I heard a quot here that there are only around a couple dozen exchanges operating out of Greece. How many users were there before the grexit? 200?
If we want to see crisis like this affect the BTC price to the moon we need to see bigger nations get hit.
Of course, it's only a matter of time.
668  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This could be bigger then the Greece bailout on: July 04, 2015, 04:15:24 AM
I sure hope so, anything to help the bitcoin is good. Ive been hearing about Voat a lot lately, but every time I try and have a look its offline. they better get some serious servers set up.
669  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how to be millioner from bitcoin.... on: July 01, 2015, 10:49:38 PM
I too would like to become a milliner using BTC.
From my research I have found that the oldest and most trusted millinery houses are in Europe, you can approach them and ask if they offer courses or apprentice programs, and if they would be willing my to accept BTC as payment.
Keep in mind, OP, that it won't be easy, milliners are not made overnight, yes, we have seen a resurgence in the popularity of hats, but they tend to be cheaply manufactured, poorly constructed, caps, not the finely crafted felt and fur creations only a skilled milliner could produce.
There is also the risks involved... Millinery is cursed by the toxic chemicals used in forming and setting hats, Mercury being the most notorious. You do know the origins of the phrase "mad as a hatter" don't you? It is because Mercury poisoning is a common hazard for the humble hat maker (it is used to set felt)

I wish you luck in your endeavours OP, the world needs milliners, carry on bravely! However, I am afraid I have no answer for your question... "..."
Considering his language skills he ain't going nowhere if you ask me. This is a common misconception when it comes to Bitcoin.
A lot of people probably read those stories about some individuals getting a lot of money after the price had risen. What they do not understand is that this particular way of getting a lot of money after a few years is not only tied to Bitcoin.
This could have happened to anyone who had invested in Google, Apple, etc. on time.

What is also of importance is that newer members of the community read this (incl. older ones that did not).
It actually states:
Quote
You should never expect to get rich with Bitcoin or any emerging technology. It is always important to be wary of anything that sounds too good to be true or disobeys basic economic rules.

I'm glad SOMEBODY caught my little joke. I was checking back on this thread to see if anyone got it...

I agree, its common sense no one will get rich quick or easy, but alas, common sense isn't that common.

The thing is, I dont think OP even cares. he's just throwing up random questions to pump his post count and make money on sig campaign. Guys like him are the reason most users here hate sig campaigns, make it hard for users like me, who dont try to endlessly creep around the spam rules and post garbage to make a few bits. A responsible sig camper is already an honest user of this forum, has a relationship with the community, reads these forums and posts constructively... then joins a campaign. its just a little passive income for doing what you would do anyways. Not a job. Certainly no way to get rich.

The actual real valuable advice to OP, considering he does actually want to make real money, is; stop wasting your time posting crap here and go put those time and energies into something of value that the market is willing to pay you PROPERLY for, like, start with the bar of 1/50th of your monthly rent per man hour spent. I dunno, maybe where OP lives he is making that per hour for posting here... could be true in an impoverished nation, but seriously, you could make a lot more creating a decent blog with adsense and targeting the north american market. considering OP's skills, that may be too much to ask.

Im going to ignore this thread now, you should too. belongs in necro-land.
670  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Coin-Vote testers wanted on: July 01, 2015, 08:51:58 PM

My only fear would be the powers that be... The politic-industrial-complex
They will be threatened by this more than money going digital. This sort of thing will make elected officials obsolete.
I'd be v ry careful if I were working on something like this... You could disappear over night and wake up in gitmo or worse. What happened to DPR will look like a picnic

And yes; belongs in service announcements

Moved to service announcements.

Thanks for your encouragement!!  I think you overstate the case for this being disruptive.  This kind of voting system could be said to cater to the rich and powerful.  There are no existing businesses that we are threatening here, like DPR did.  Nor are there any ways that one could associate our platform with any lawbreaking.  If there are such ways, please be specific and let us know.

Cheers --
no, what I'm saying is; it will put the elected officials out of work, or at the very least, prevent them from cheating the system like they have grown accustom to. they wont like that. the corruptible system as it exists today...easy to fix elections, crooked ballots,  they are the tools of the corrupt governing officials to stay in power and manipulate everything in their favor. I'm sure they do not want this type of voting used in their elections, it would ruin their game.

EDIT- I LIKE this system you have presented here... but shouldn't you use testnet coins to test it? I say this because I dont know where the coins are going. looks like there are 2 questions being voted on and both have received over 21 btc worth of votes. that's over 42 btc not to mention the various other votes and the fractions of btc they have received... who keeps those btc? this part i dont understand, but i am going to look over the whitepaper, maybe i will be able to understand.

671  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2015-07-01-NewsBTC-BitGo Launches Certificate Proving Bitcoin Companies Solvency on: July 01, 2015, 07:00:59 PM
I want to see this idea applied to everything. World powers, nations, banks, every ticker on Wall Street.
The term "transparency" gets tossed around a lot but it's just a buzz word. If we could actually see what's going on with these world powers and mega corporations I'm sure they would all prove to be frauds.

Stuff like this actually is the greater threat to BTC thought
The powers that be don't care as much about how we handle our money as they care how easy it is for them to steal and hide from us citizens
They ain't gonna like this
672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Coin-Vote testers wanted on: July 01, 2015, 06:49:48 PM
This is great, I've heard it talked about but your version seems very simple and easy to use. I thought the idea should be simple to implement, and was wondering when we'd see it live, but I suppose every developer has been keeping it under wraps, trying to figure out how to make it into a money-maker... Crypto-anarchists *sigh*

Anyways, good on you OP... I'm not tech enough to speak to the tech, but I'm anarchist enough to speak to the value of this project. It is of absolutely the greatest value to democracy. There can be no true democracy under elected officials. Public referendum is the only system for governance that will work, and block chain voting will facilitate this. You are on to the wave of the future!

My only fear would be the powers that be... The politic-industrial-complex

673  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there a service that Pays BTC to Forum users that sell their signature space? on: July 01, 2015, 06:35:29 PM
Yes, as mentioned above, there are individuals who have taken it upon themselves to act as managers, they recruit trustworthy users who create quality posts and connect them to owners of companies who wish to advertise. They take a small fee but they must ensure everything goes according to plan (quality control, meeting requirements, seeing payments are made, finding new campaigns when old ones end... Etc)
It's a job, that's for sure, I don't think there is any sort of company offering this service yet, it's really too small of a market. I'm unaware of any forums besides this that even allows sig ads...
Plus... Sig campaigns are controversial, if you haven't noticed. They attract the wrong kind of user to forums and ruin the forum experience for those who come here out of reasons more pure than posting for pennies.

I use the services of a campaign manager, and I'm happy with the service, but manager approached me, not the other way around, which tells me that manager is doing their job right. Watching users to see who is a valued member and avoiding the account farming shit posters. My manager earns his keep. Good service to not only me and the advertisers, but responsible to the community as a whole by minimizing garbage content.

675  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unconventional Bitcoin Wallets on: July 01, 2015, 06:00:52 PM
I am unclear as to the logistics of what you propose OP
It sounds to me like you are setting up a temporary market, somewhat akin to a charity sale in a church basement; one night only, local vendors who rent tables, that sort of thing.
There are many problems with this. If the only idea is to learn/use BTC I don't think that alone is enough incentive to draw consumers. If it is to sell goods, that's great but why would anyone want to go through the extra bother of converting fiat just for that?

It would be simple to set up your market and have the patrons go through a barrier where they get debriefed and set up with BTC- if they don't have smartphones they can easily use paper wallets... Then they are free to shop at your jumble sale using BTC... Simple as that.

The problems I see are this;
1. You will need to have many roaming agents "embassadors" if you will, walking about the market, ready to problem solve if and when difficulties and mistakes happen.
2. You would need to hope and pray that the value of BTC does not crash over the allotted time of your market. If shoppers buy BTC then see they actually have less buying power at the end, you just lost new users.
3. What is the incentive? Why should I convert between fiat and BTC, go through the risks and hassles? BTC is struggling to find it's real world best use scenario. We either need to identify and exploit that or simply make BTC purchases more desirable I.e. Deep discounts...

Maybe I'm not fully understanding your idea OP, but I think you have bigger problems to solve than how to include users w/out smartphones

677  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The intelligence injustice of Bitcoin on: June 30, 2015, 11:57:35 PM
There is a lot of VC money flowing to developers specifically working on the user friendliness aspect of handling BTC they know it's difficult for many and that this is an obstical to adoption.
We are young community yet. You will see services that are easier to use as time progresses, much like email and connecting to the Internet. Frankly, whomever comes up with a simple, seamless, and secure BTC wallet/exchange/app will have the "killer app" we have all been waiting for, making my themselves rich and sending BTC moon-ward in the process.
678  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's your biggest problem with Bitcoin on: June 30, 2015, 07:57:53 AM
The biggest problem with Bitcoin is its users

None of them has anything I want

Second biggest problem with Bitcoin is too difficult to mine

Needs crashing
