Some external programs may delete cookies.
Do you have any program that routinely "cleans" your computer ?
If so , disable it temporarily and check if the problem persists.

722  Economy / Gambling / Re: VIVA LAS VEGAS ! Last call for Jackpot ! Become a millionaire ! on: July 26, 2014, 12:53:45 PM
Slot machines have huge house edges , especially the shiniest ones.
Sorry , but I'd rather take my chances on Primedice , where I can be sure that it is not rigged and have a tiny house edge , rather than a 10+% house edge slots.

If you were playing in a poker tournament though , it would be a different story...
723  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please tell me if my computer will be ok for mining or not on: July 26, 2014, 12:47:08 PM
No computer is good for mining.

You can attach ASICs to it if you are interested , but your computer will wear out before it earns you anything.

Computers are not good for mining anything except extremely new cryptocurrencies , with new PoW systems.
724  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: July 26, 2014, 06:12:16 AM

It really depends on how many constructive post you can make a month, and so people join the sig campaign appropriate for them. Smiley

If I am going to take a vacation for weeks, I should join Bitmixer.
If I am going to make 50 constructive posts a month, I would get more in LB (0.1 btc) then in PD (0.05 btc).
If I am going to make 400 constructive posts a month, I should join PD to get 0.4 btc.

And also factor in which campaign is more stable.
You wouldn't want your signature campaign to suddenly close down, and find out the others are closed for new entrants.   Tongue

A lot of campaigns are very stable.
Bitmixer has minimal payments , so I don't see them shutting theirs down anytime soon , the same can be said for Bitcoin-Scratchticket and 777coin.
Most of the closed campaigns like Luckybit have chosen number of participants based on their need , so it is unlikely they will shut down.

Primedice seems the least stable in my mind, with upto 0.48 BTC per person per month and a huge amount of participants.
But they have a reputation for being the longest lived campaign , so it is unlikely they will shut it down. (I'd see further reductions soon though)
725  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase Vault on: July 26, 2014, 05:30:13 AM
I really wouldn't use Coinbase Vault.

I'd suggest using your own cold wallet , where you know the security of your coins instead of just being assured by a third party.
Managing a paper wallet is really easy and holding a brain wallet is even easier.
726  Economy / Services / Re: FOR LIFETIME! Selling my Signature space! - over 1200 posts in the last 6 month on: July 26, 2014, 05:22:27 AM
1) Establish a baseline price. How much is the minimum you are willing to go for ? 0.5 BTC ? 1 BTC ? 5 BTC ?

2) Find a suitable way to ensure that you shall continue posting for as long as necessary. One example could be that the buyer could keep the funds with an escrow and the escrow would give you 10% for every 150 posts you make , ensuring you get the full amount in around a year (1500 posts)

Alternatively , if the buyer is trusted , he can give you the amount slowly over time instead of using an escrow.

I see no scenario in which you can get a lump sum payment , unless you had a lot of trust.
727  Other / Meta / Re: I can't post anything on: July 25, 2014, 04:44:50 PM
Basically , you need to post once ever 360 seconds for the first few weeks.
By the time you reach Jr. Member , you will only occasionally blocked , and once you finally reach Member, you will not notice it unless you spam.

I'd suggest you simply copy each message before posting and try again after some time whenever you fail to post.
The transition will happen naturally , you don't need to really look at all the formulae.

Another benefit other than stopping spambots is that it teaches Newbies to post less often.
728  Other / Meta / Re: How to unfollow a thread on: July 25, 2014, 04:40:53 PM
Thanks for the tip about deleting my posts in that thread.  Could be a ball ache, but I think there's one or two threads where I've only got one or two posts in there anyway.  And I'm really tired of seeing that thread bump. Smiley

Also, thanks for the pointer about the watchlist.  I guess I haven't really explored everything the forum software has to offer.

Well , if you feel that having unwatch would remove "Show New Replies" feedback would be better , you could suggest it on the Meta section to discuss the new forum software.

Honestly, I never check those sections as I lurk on the forums a lot. I check Off-topic , Services , Economics and Meta around 12-14 hours a day.
If any post of mine gets bumped, I notice it as soon as that happens Tongue

The watchlist seems like the best place, as you would be able to opt-in selectively instead of having to opt-out every time.
729  Economy / Economics / Re: Have you started spending rather than hoarding your bitcoins? on: July 25, 2014, 04:36:29 PM
I use Bitcoin for digital purchases.
I can't really ship anything , because the shipping fees mostly outweigh the item cost.

My digital purchases end up being pretty small though.

So my answer would be hoarding , with only small purchases.
No trade for Fiat in either direction though.
730  Economy / Speculation / Re: What Bitcoin Will Be Worth before end of 2014 on: July 25, 2014, 12:09:15 PM
Predicting the value Bitcoin is the worst way to waste your time.

Most of the people here spending their time on the forums believe that the value of Bitcoin will rise and will be worth something in the long run. However , short term speculation is useless.

The price of a single bitcoin depends mainly on what happens to Bitcoin businesses.

Unless you are John Donahoe and you decide that from tomorrow Paypal is going to accept Bitcoin , or any other huge business deciding to accept Bitcoin , you have no power in prediction.

You may flaunt your ability to predict the value of other commodities , but Bitcoin is much more volatile and even more heavily affected by public perception.

I believe that Bitcoin will stay at 650$ for as long as it takes for either , a big business to accept Bitcoin or a huge spike in awareness.
731  Other / Meta / Re: remove limits from bitcointalk.org account on: July 25, 2014, 11:33:57 AM
We can whitelist users, but their position remains same.

Are there any other effects of being whitelisted , other than a reduced posting cooldown ?

A moderator bestowed custom privileges could be useful.
EG :- An established member wishes to make a new official account for their site , they could have the same posting cooldown as their main account would have and also be able to put a link to their site in the signature immediately.
732  Other / Off-topic / Re: London firm creates mind-controlled commands for Google Glass on: July 25, 2014, 11:31:35 AM
that's awesome dude

I can't believe it, but I'm actually with the people who find google glass annoying, it'd be cool to use at home or in private but if you use it outside all the time you're just being a douche.

I don't see how it is more annoying than a smartphone or a MP3 player.
It may be a bit harder to notice at first , but soon everyone will know when someone is not paying attention and looking at their Google glass.

Voice controls are one of the most annoying things as I don't want to be in a bus or train with everyone yelling out things to their phone. This provides an effective solution to make the Google glass a more usable product in public.
733  Economy / Gambling / Re: The Most Hardcore Bitcoin Gamblers Are? on: July 24, 2014, 01:44:40 PM
Luckyb.it is addicting as hell. I've actually made over 0.8 BTC from it, I just reduce my bet once I win, until I lose, then right after I lose I bet high. It isn't supposed to work in theory but it works for me. Its so suspenseful and gives me a rush every time I play it. I decided to quit while I am ahead and I put it all in a xapo.com vault so I can't gamble (easily) any more.

There is nothing like supposed to work or not supposed to work.
It is all on luck Smiley

You may get a 999x on your first LuckyBit red or may roll a million coins without getting a 999x
The method you use doesn't affect anything Smiley

Do you accept payment via Paypal ?
How much Bitcoin could I get for around 70$ PayPal ?

735  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you earn money online? on: July 23, 2014, 07:50:57 AM
Actually, I think most campaign owners will simply not allow a user with negative trust (given by a member of the default trust list) to join their campaign, regardless of whether or not the feedback was unfair. Even PD doesn't accept them anymore.

But I completely agree with you on the rest: buying and selling accounts, especially older accounts, and those with previous trades, completely warrants the negative trust, in my view.

That's news to me.
I generally know Stunna as being a rather reasonable person.

Quote from: Stunna
If you are marked a scammer by the community with valid negative trusts with references, you will be denied payment.

Stunna has said that it needs validity and to have proper references.
It would be great if someone with first hand experience with this situation could enlighten us , as I'm pretty sure that Stunna wouldn't withhold payment needlessly.
736  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you earn money online? on: July 23, 2014, 05:38:41 AM

Or at least make it so people have to contact you via a throw-away account, and scrutinize the people contacting you to see if they don't have any contacts to anyone who could go and give you negative trust.

Trades can't be public from now on, ever. There is too much self-moderating and negative trust being given out wrongfully. There should be a trust reset or something, so we can hopefully go back and minimize this happening.

And I don't buy or sell accounts, I'm just suggesting things for anyone out there.

There is nothing like "wrong" trust.

It literally means that that person does not trust you !

If I know you as a reliable user , with a lot of trust on the forums , if you sell your account ,  I will be very very suspicious.
Why ?
Because it is very likely that a scammer has bought your account , to scam and you should not be trusted.

You cannot blame anyone for not trusting you.
DefaultTrust is broken in this way , but if you manually set your trust list , you will only see trust ratings from people who you yourself trust. If you trust a person , you should expect the people they trust to be trustworthy.

On the other hand , any good trader knows to check each and every trust rating and will first see why you are untrusted before jumping to conclusions. If you have wrongly got negative trust , you should contact the person who put the negative trust and explain your case. Secondly , even the trader (or in this case the signature campaign owner) should be made aware of the situation. If the negative rating is baseless , they will understand.
737  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you earn money online? on: July 22, 2014, 05:14:20 PM
I have a friend who made $14, he has 30 subscribers and never breaks 300 views per video, but he did have one that cracked 2,000 views.

I don't think you need a high viewer count to make money, it's just the volume of money you are getting depends on the ads.

YouTube is a very lucrative place to make money, assuming you can actually get viewers and set up a partnership. It really isn't that hard.

I have another friend who has 1,002 subs, average 300 views/video, but hasn't decided to monetize anything yet. I don't know how many videos he has, but  I think it's close to 100... So 300*100=30,000 , $0.001*30,000=$30

$30 potential right there, probably more in reality. If a guy with 43 videos and 120 views per video can make $14,
300 views on 100 videos (Average) could make quite a lot...

I uploaded a video once... I got 60 views in a day , but I took it down because it was.... kinda taken without consent of people in it....

Anyways, it seems rather efficient , but you would need to find a way to get viewers well. You would need to target a specific , niche audience that you could maintain and interest indefinitely.

The thing you said about your friend with 43 videos and 120 views each making 14$ :-
That becomes around 0.33$ per video , around 2.7$ per thousand views.

If each video takes you two hours to make , you should expect atleast 7,000 views each for it to be worth more than working a bit above minimum wage.

For you to have a nice looking 100k salary off youtube videos , you would need to create around a hundred thousand views daily.

TLDR; Its not really likely that youtubing will make you a lot of money , but if you do something that interests you and you want to share it , it may just pay off
738  Other / Off-topic / Re: I got an email from the FBI!!! on: July 22, 2014, 04:50:56 PM

What do you think? Should I accept the congratulations?

I'm sure that this is fake message and very likely virus!
Just stop and think seriously are you really so important that FBI would send you any message.
In fact, i don't think that they will contact anybody in this way, it's funny, not serious Smiley
Just delete it and forget!

He won the silkroad seized coins auction , they had to contact him !
They used their message scrambler software to make it look like it came from China , so that if you intercepted it you would not find out how to get the Bitcoins !

OP , please open it and share some of the Bitcoins with us ?
739  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which of these 2 laptops would you pick ? on: July 22, 2014, 04:47:42 PM
In my opinion most branded windows laptops or computers come with a lot of bloatware.

This won't harm you in the short term , but they will slow down your computer needlessly in the long run.

It is best to delete all the bloatware (Basically , useless software included with your computer when you take it out of the box) when you buy a new laptop , as it gets harder to do it later without removing useful programs.

A handy guide I'd suggest is this : http://www.maximumpc.com/article/howtos/howto_get_rid_bloatware_your_new_laptop
A word of warning, use it only if you just bought your laptop and didn't install anything yet.

It doesn't really matter whether you take the Toshiba or the Lenovo , they will be a fraction of their real speed with bloatware (But I personally think the Toshiba looks better).

Another viable option is to get laptops with lesser or no bloatware , but they are harder to find.
Quick googling leads to quite a few lists like this : http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2329276,00.asp

TLDR; The Toshiba is better , but be sure to remove bloatware or go for another bloatware free laptop
740  Other / Off-topic / Re: How many posts do you make per hour you are logged in ? on: July 22, 2014, 04:38:17 PM
who can make 15-25 posts/hour?

Quite honestly , I could make 15 posts per hour.
I would need around 1 minute to read the OP and ignore the rest of the thread and I could easily formulate a reply in another 1-2 minutes , leading to 20-30 posts per hour.

But the fact is that if you spend time reading each and every reply , there is a great chance that someone has already asked what you have asked or brought up the point you were going to. You then end up posting once every few threads that you read , probably once every 3-6.

On the other hand , a person who owns a Marketplace thread , maybe a service , a goods sale thread or a gambling thread would definitely be expected to have over 15 posts per hour. They would need to answer each and every question by a potential client , regardless of whether it has been covered before or whether it is silly and doesn't really warrant a post.

TLDR ; 15-25 posts per hour can be non-spammy, but only in rare cases. The first of which I could think of was owner of a sales / service thread.
