bluefirecorp:

This is very likely to be illegal , almost definitely , but admins will not demand proof of legitimacy or ban him unless there is no possible scenario where his goods are legitimate.

This makes sense too , and user privacy is never breached until completely necessary.

I would suggest you leave our poetic friend some negative rep if you believe his actions are illegitimate. Don't expect any official action.

I have read your post.

I was defending you , saying that you cannot be forced into giving out any information.

822  Economy / Economics / Re: Global Financial Crisis scenarios on: July 02, 2014, 12:08:27 PM
Unlike all the predictions of skyrocketing , I think Bitcoin will fall horribly.
Nobody wants their money invested in anything volatile when they are likely to lose it all.
Hence , most people would divest causing Bitcoin to fall at any time of a major crisis.

Bitcoin's rise relies on the public feeling economically secure.
823  Economy / Economics / Re: I need someone to give me Econ 101 - Why is mild inflation needed ? on: July 02, 2014, 11:31:20 AM

Was that what you were getting at or did I miss your query?

I'm not sure if I am going in circles half of the time Sad

Anyways, many people were saying how a deflationary model is superior.
I was simply asking for precedence or hypothetical examples.

The computers one seemed sensible from my perspective , didn't realize that deflationary couldn't be applied to only a specific field.

826  Economy / Economics / Re: I need someone to give me Econ 101 - Why is mild inflation needed ? on: July 02, 2014, 08:10:09 AM

You're right, entirely too simplistic, but it does satisfy the Econ 101 perspective (Econ 102 actually - Econ 101 is quite broadly a Microeconomics course at most schools, whereas Econ 102 is Macro, but I digress).

Yeah , I didn't mean 101 literally , just in the sense that 101 implies the most initial course of study in that field.

The first question I had asked has been answered well and repeatedly ('Why is mild inflation needed ?')

To my second question , I'm still looking for more answers.
The best comparison where despite being deflationary , growth still occurs in that field is computing power :-

It means, that the same laptop you would have bought in 2004 for 500$ now you can buy for 50$, or you can buy a 10 times faster laptop for the same 500$. The purchasing power of your dollar increased for the same technological level, or you can get a 10 times better technological product for the same price!

827  Economy / Services / Re: [Coins Source] ** Signature Promotion ** Promote Something Postive on: July 02, 2014, 07:52:02 AM
90% premined

I don't really think any premined coins have a future.
A signature campaign run purely on those coins sounds like an awesome place to start a pump'n'dump though. (Not saying that you are going to pump'n'dump)
You could pay people in those soon to be value-less coins to publicize them , when the value hits a high , sell all your coins and cash out, crashing the market.

You two should partner up and offer your services as a team  Wink

Well , I can't really judge anyone.
I had lost one of the best chances I had had to get into writing , by a silly typo with a homophone.

829  Economy / Services / Re: Cloudbet Signature Campaign – up to 0.12 BTC per month for 50 posts on: July 02, 2014, 07:27:37 AM
Can I start today, or do I have to wait until the 16th to join?

You can start right now, but you will not get paid till August the 16th.
Hence , it is best if you join on 15th of July.

831  Economy / Services / Re: Quality Writer at Low Rates on: July 02, 2014, 07:17:45 AM
I've been extremely busy with final exams at school, but now they're finished.(unnecessary really) I am offering my services as a writer and am extremely cheap. (this sentence implies : "I am offering my services as a write. I am extremely cheap.")(Correction :- I am offering my services as a write for extremely cheap prices)

The grammar skills you read here are what you will be paying for. I'm not the best writer in the world, nor do I claim to be. I am an average writer who works at a cheaper rate than just about anyone else on this site.

My rate varies on a case-by-case basis. But as a general estimate, you can use .03 BTC/500 words. (But in general , it will cost an estimated .03 BTC/500 words)

If you have the extra money to spend, I honestly recommend you go to Lucky-House-Writing. Their quality is superior but at a much steeper price. The decision belongs to you, though. (This is another line that will just convince people that you are a bad writer. Unless you are invested in Lucky-House Writing in some manner , I'd suggest you remove this)

My prices are negotiable. If you can accomadate(accommodate?) me as a steady writer, your price will be lowered.(If you would like to hire me for a longer term , your price will be lowered)

833  Economy / Economics / Re: where does bitcoin stand today? (July 2014) on: July 01, 2014, 06:15:08 PM
Adoption and usage is the important thing but what about people that heard about bitcoin? I'd say even 20 out 100 heard about it. But don't use it.

Okay , let me work on this to emphasize my point,

There are a million people in city A.
On day 1 , Nakamoto tell 9 friends about it , making it 10 adopters. ( 9 total new people )
On day 2 , each friend tells 9 friends about it , making 100 adopters ( 90 total new people )
On day 3 , each friend tells 9 friends about it , making 1,000 adopters. ( 900 total new people )
.....
On day 6 , each friend tells 9 friends about it , making 1,000,000 adopters. (900,000 total new people)

Now , at day 3 , one friend decides to estimate their progress.
He sees that it has been three days since it started.
He says that 1000/1000,000 = 0.1% of people know about Bitcoin.
They estimate that it will take 3 * 100/0.1 = 3000 more days for the entire city to know about Bitcoin , when in reality , it will take only 3 more days.
However , in a realistic scenario , this will take a bit longer than 3 days , as by day 6 , a large proportion of the people each friend tells will have already heard of Bitcoin from someone else.

Getting back to my point , the growth and rate of new members entering into Bitcoin is increasing exponentially.
Price charts are shown in logarithmic scales , in order to make them readable.
My prediction is based on the exponential growth of Bitcoin and asserts that we are halfway there.
The prediction cannot be deemed accurate , because it is just a guess at best , but it is still more accurate than all the guesses of 1 so far.

BE CONFIDENT IN BITCOIN ! WE HAVE COVERED FAR MORE GROUND THAN THE "1" YOU SAY
834  Economy / Economics / Re: where does bitcoin stand today? (July 2014) on: July 01, 2014, 06:06:02 PM
I assume that even in a "full worldwide adoption scenario" (= maximum adoption ever reached) not the entire world population will use Bitcoin. But between 25-75% are possible.

So as a conservative estimate I will assume that 2 billion people will use bitcoin in the maximum adoption scenario. The current number of bitcoiners is hard to estimate. I would put that number in the 10 to 20 million range.

Based on these assumptions, we're currently at a value of 0.5-1 on your scale.

I think complete adoption is possible , or atleast 90%+ , though it is unlikely.
Many Bitcoin users envision a scenario where Bitcoin is considered the global currency , like the Euro but for the entire world rather than just the EU.

This is rather unlikely , but not impossible.

I still don't understand how everyone is valuing it at 1 or below on the scale though -.-
835  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: July 01, 2014, 05:40:00 PM
I have enrolled for this campaign on the form , it would be great if you could affirm this.
Thanks,
Jambola2

I attempted to enroll , but didn't correctly complete the process earlier today.
I enrolled again , but stated my earlier post count of 811 , because I had already posted 17 times today with your signature.
I hope you take note of this and don't disqualify me for inputting my post-count as 17 less than the real post-count at the time of enrollment.

Thanks,
Jambola2

I'm still kinda confused.

I'm not an investor of JD , but it would be great if you could update the OP to an explanation of what has happened or alternatively create a new thread about this.

What do you plan to do now ? Are you going to call it quits or are you going to start up again in some other form?
(I hope you have not already answered this)

838  Economy / Economics / Re: where does bitcoin stand today? (July 2014) on: July 01, 2014, 03:28:16 PM
DISCLAIMER : THESE CALCULATIONS ARE KINDA RANDOM ( But still better than all the "1"s so far)

Lets base Bitcoin's adoption on the number of forum users.

There are 7 billion people on earth , so 1 on your scale is one adopter and 100 is 7 billion adopters.

If we use a logarithmic scale of base 10, we could say:-

7 billion = 10^9.845

Now , we can say that currently , there are around 300,000 users on this forums. Assuming that they are the only people using Bitcoin :-

300,000 = 10^5.477

That means we would rank 5.477/9.845 = 55 on your scale.

All this assumes that we use a logarithmic scale , which I find appropriate as it is the scale we usually use when we compare BTC price since the beginning (again , this assumes price is directly proportional to number of adopters)

300000/7000000000 = 0.00004285714

0.00004285714*100% = 0.004285714%

so 0.004285714 on his scale

why would you assume a 1-100 scale is logarithmic?

Firstly , your idea itself is wrong , because it gives you a value below 1.

I am considering it logarithmic because he has asked us for a status on progress as a whole.
If what you are saying is correct , then if we continue at the current speed , global acceptance will occur in around 1.16 million years.

If you consider my scale and assume that the same logarithmic speed continues , it will take 5 more years for Bitcoin to be globally accepted. (5 years so far , 5 more years to go)

My idea is not very accurate , because it assumes that we can keep up this logarithmic pace.
However , it is still more accurate than your scale when it comes to gauging Bitcoin.
839  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: July 01, 2014, 03:22:22 PM
For really long term, gold.

For short term, bitcoin.

Funnily enough, I would say the opposite. Bitcoin is better for really long term investing imo(buy and hold) and gold is alright for short term fear in the financial world.

The private key is uncrackable for now. Who know if this is true 10 years down the road.

If technology was progressing to the point where it was feasible for a private key to be cracked, couldn't the devs just upgrade the encryption?

Firstly , you cannot 'crack' a single private key , you just need to find all the private keys in the entirety of Bitcoin.

Secondly , it's not possible that it will be cracked , by any force in our universe.
Literally

840  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: July 01, 2014, 03:09:03 PM
I'd say they are both currency proxies.   Its a legitimate comparison.    Tell me why are you buying gold especially if you are neither a jeweller or wanting to wear it personally.     Same criticism gets handed to BTC, what the heck is all this bother about a useless hash code.   Both are highly valued but valueless, useless even products.

Also there is some gold on the usb key and on the motherboard I think Tongue    Im jealous of those Chinese language skills, I'd argue thats the most valuable product in the video

The same can be said for any currency. A coin of any currency has no inherent value , it is just metal , why are you giving people real stuff for it ?
These seemingly useless items have value because they are believed to have value.

USD has it because it is government enforced, gold has it because of rarity and use, Bitcoin has it due to the work it takes to create.
