So I've been away since yesterday... Was there a triggering event to this drop, or no? Some news or rumor maybe?

I am looking forward to the day when interplanetary trade becomes a factor. ... interplanetary traders ... will insist on cryptocurrencies as payment.
Bitcoin won't work in that scenario. It takes a radio signal between 4 minutes (which might be alright) to 24 minutes (won't work) to travel from Earth to Mars, depending on each planet's position on its trip around the sun. We'd need some other currency with a longer block time, or we'd need to deal with an overwhelming proportion of double spends. A longer block time would not solve this problem. Since a block can be found at any time regardless of the target block time, there would always be a possibility of a double spend. In order to spend coins when the blockchain is both on Earth and Mars, 3 TX would be the equivalent to 0/unconfirmed. It would also be impossible to mine on both planets as the planet with the lower hashpower would have a huge amount of orphaned blocks, regardless of target block time. two separate blockchains. one per planet, thenexchange them like two currencies.

yea, bitcoin has had a big effect on my political views. i was raised in a republican mormon home, but as an adult quicly realized the whole system was jacked up... being here and reading various links and such over the last three years has really opened my eyes even more. i went from not caring to actively trying to change things.
course now it's more like "well little people can't really effect change much..." and i feel like i'm sitting on the sidelines watching the world crumble in ultra slow motion.
Me too sometimes. However, have you ever read J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings? All of the big people are off fighting armies of orcs and facing down a traitor wizard, while two of the Little People sneak into Mordor and bring down the main villain. Besides, I've suggested that independent bloggers have more power than they think they do in this article. considering i have a LOTR tattoo, you make a very good point. in some small way, trying to change things and be apart of something larger is what keeps me here in bitcoinland.

never found a tea i liked... which shocks my friends, as in texas everywhere sells sweet tea. i take a sip and nearly gag. horrid stuff.
How sweet is the stuff in Texas? When I went to Dubai or Thailand, i found that the iced tea over there is a lot sweeter than in other countries. It wasn't refreshing anymore. The same goes with juice over there. hmm. i'm unsure how to describe it honestly. i don't think it was the sweet that bothered me. i mean i drink (too much) soda all the time. got a pepsi next to me as i type. but there's some sort of bitter tang, for lack of better wording, that just makes my face scrunch up... like the inverse of a lemon.

yea, as others have said better then i could, this is not a real problem.
though it sure will be nice when (hopefully) difficulty levels out somewhat...
How is it not a real problem? 10 minute blocks are one of the problems to be solved in Bitcoin. If it wasn't a problem there wouldn't be so many people thinking of solutions. It's clearly a problem. The question is how big of a problem is it? Is it enough to slow down adoption? Will there be solutions found or implemented? Or is it just a minor annoyance that doesn't matter in the modern financial world? the people thinking of and trying solutions is exactly why it's not a "real" problem. key word there - real. it's an issue that's being actively solved and in my personal experience hasn't been an issue at all, honestly. and i've spent a lot of coin... bought giftcards via the gyft app regularly and get them instantly, without waiting for confirms, for example.
