I carry most every day, but i can understand your uneasiness. Think about this.
To carry has cost me about $1200 in classes and equipment. It took about 4 months of waiting, I had to submit multiple sets of fingerprints to the FBI and states of Wisconsin and Utah. I had background checks for criminality, mental illness, drug abuse, etc.. And each handgun I buy involves another raft of paperwork
Now, it is not sensible to think that I went through all that so I could murder someone. Indeed, IMO you are safer when you see someone carrying nearby.
Pepper-spray or mace or stun guns would never do in a gunfight. Using anything like that is a good way to get killed. As counterintuitive as it is, if everyone has a gun, peace breaks out. I saw it myself in Croatia during the war. The Serbs were slaughtering the Croats until the guns showed up. Suddenly they did not want to fight.

That's outrageous.  £262 for 20g! Oh, and the death penalty part.
8283  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are we winning the "drug war"? on: June 26, 2012, 01:20:00 PM
The most telling thing in this thread is that no one seems willing to defend our current policy. Is there anyone left who believes prohibition is a good idea? I open to hearing a sensible argument.
8284  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious Bitcoiners, do you pray for Bitcoin? on: June 25, 2012, 06:10:09 PM
i'm not superstious but if the bible were right then I doubt any of your prayers will be answered. The bible is clear that loans are a sin, an "abomination" in fact. If you have ever taken or provided a loan then why would god help you with your ill gotten gain?

8286  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Backup question on: June 22, 2012, 02:20:05 PM
Thanks for your information Smiley
I wanted to know this because my internet connection isn't really fast, so uploading more than 2GB to my FTP server would take a while.
Of course I'll encrypt my wallet.dat with truecrypt.
@RodeoX the idea with stegonography sound very interesting. Can you explain more? How it works? How can I do it?
Sure.
"Steggo" includes things like watermarks or other ways of hiding one file in another. Say I take your picture and the picture in 765kb in size. I also have some submarine plans that I need to send back to my handlers, that file is 121kb. By embedding the sub plans using steggo software i produce a picture of you that is about 877kb. It looks just like the picture I took but contains the additional information.
When I email back to the U.S. I attach the picture. Anyone reading my mail will just see a typical vacation email. But for anyone with the right key both pictures can be viewed.

The weakness in this is that the file is suspiciously long. You would not want to use a small picture and mix it with a large file or it may be noticeable. Here is the wiki on the subject:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography

Other options include mixing techniques. Here is one. take your wallet.dat and encrypt it. Now it's wallet.dat.pgp. Rename the file property_zoning_permit.xlz. What is an .xlz file? I duno?? But it looks boring to me. Smiley
8287  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Backup question on: June 22, 2012, 01:52:41 PM
It is also helpful to have more than one backup. I like one on a USB stick and an encrypted copy stored hidden online.
Personally I think a site like dropbox is not secure enough. There are a million creative solutions however. For example you could use stegonography to conceal your wallet in a photo and hide it in plain sight.
8288  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What type of bitcoin businesses would you like to see? on: June 22, 2012, 01:46:06 PM
A router that sells wifi airtime for BTC at a good price. The market for this might be a small hotel or mall kiosk. They could just purchase the device and turn it on. I envision it running a client and after updating it begins selling. One can connect (this may be the tricky part) and send the fee before connecting to the net. Then the router opens up a connection for the length of time paid.
A full blown version could have a deposit button that uploads your coins to Mt.Gox at the end of the day, or even a feature that allows customers to purchase some of the coins in the router wallet.

8291  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are we winning the "drug war"? on: June 21, 2012, 11:13:20 PM
... But yes, the "war on drugs" is really a "war on society".
yes. War is a social behavior between people, not between people and an inanimate substance. War also implies there should be guns and violence and cool helicopters. Blood should be spilled and rights should be suspended.
Why? I thought the problem was "Jim" is addicted to coke? He's ruining his life and the lives of people around him because he has a medical condition. Why not spend a lot less and offer free help getting off drugs? I don't think most people like Jim want to be junkies. If Jim instead chooses to steal to get drug money then lock him up for stealing, if he gets crazy and punches a toll booth attendant; book him for assault. But not for being a drug addict. This is what we do now for people addicted to the drug called alcohol.
The drug war is has been a disastrously expensive misadventure in dollars and the lives of American citizens. Surely we can do better than this.

8292  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Public Plea to Bitcoin Developers and Supporters alike on: June 21, 2012, 05:22:30 PM
If bitcoin needed my help to succeed, it would not succeed.
Bitcoin is fundamentally a good idea and superior to other options. No one is going to ruin it by producing products to use it. Of course it may eventually be the end of casual mining, but mining is just a distribution method.
IMO, we are about to go mainstream and unless you scale up $20k or so your mining dreams will just be a fantasy.

In that case my number is 555-1212.  Roll Eyes
It drives me crazy when a store demands phone or even SS#. I would never even consider giving them real info. I keep several identities just for this purpose. Or I ask for the teller's SS# in return. They never go for that.

I don't smoke pot.  Surprised?
I guess not. I always thought your name meant something else that I don't get, besides "a joint".

I'm bullish right now. All the good press and other developments lead me to believe we are going up to about $8 before turning down.

8300  Economy / Goods / Re: Come in and Trade Ammo or Talk about Guns! on: June 20, 2012, 07:34:48 PM
Black talon pfft. If I remember that ammo got a bad rap in the press as "cop killer" ammo. People seemed disturbed at how it expands into a scary metal flower. As stated above people began to think it could go through body armor or that it "exploded" when it hit you. The fact is that mushrooming ammo is safer than FMJ because it lacks penetration power once it has hit the target.

If they had just called it puppy hug ammo no one would have ever noticed.  Roll Eyes
