I don't think we're going to (nor have to) agree on this I'd say "Bitcoin LN" makes it very clear we're talking about Bitcoin locked in channels that can be send through LN and later settled on-chain. You say it's not Bitcoin.

That's exactly what I always say: Bitcoin LN is great for small low-fee transactions.

For the record, I prefer to just call it "LN", but if I do, you say LN can also be used by Litecoin, so I specify "Bitcoin LN", even though almost anyone already understands what I mean when I post about LN on Bitcointalk.

Euros from Kraken arrive the next business day. SEPA itself is usually instant nowadays, at least within the country. But I guess Kraken batches their transactions.

Would you be more okay with Bitcoin LN if the minimum amount would be 1 sat? If so, it's probably not that difficult to adjust the software and start your own node.

Me too, but that's mainly because Bitpay has "conditioned" me to fear their additional consolidation charges. They've also conditioned me to stay away from any site that uses Bitpay, but I've seen others do it too (and usually those amounts are much bigger than what I pay on-chain).

Kraken works fine for me (also recently), but I'm a Dutch citizen living in the Netherlands. I've never used Bitstamp.
I love Kraken's SEPA withdrawal fee: €0.09!

A euro-alternative could be Bitonic, but you should make sure you're allowed to use it from your location (and nationality). As far as I know this is the oldest Dutch Bitcoin exchange. If you can use it, it's easier than using an exchange, but rates on Kraken are better.

This sounds like a caching or swapping problem. Any chance your system is low on RAM?

TL;DR-version: (I think) "12 word seeds" didn't exist back then. Files named wallet.dat (or somethingelse.dat if you renamed them) are all you need. Create a backup on a USB-stick (and another backup just to be sure) before doing anything else.
Let Bitcoin Core sync a bit, the first "years" of block data are very fast and should be enough to show which addresses you used back then. If a balance show up in Bitcoin Core, check Blockchair.com to see if the balance is still there (without having to wait for a full sync).

That problem will solve itself: if enough people find it annoying, they won't earn Merit from it anymore.

Why is this even an argument against LN? Most of the internet requires both parties to be online, and billions of devices are online about 99.9% of the time. My debit card also requires both the shop as well as my bank to be online when I make a transaction. That's not a deal breaker.
And even though Bitcoin can work when the receiver is offline, it still requires both parties to be online and verify the transaction to complete the sale (or whatever deal we made).

I can only speak for myself, but I've said it for years: I don't really care how, as long as Bitcoin does scale! I wouldn't mind bigger blocks (I think it was 32 MB per block when Bitcoin started), but that caused a lot of drama. High fees aren't good for adoption, and although I agree with the argument that Bitcoin can't reach mass adoption by storing billions of daily transactions on-chain, I also think it would be a good temporary solution to allow more transactions until a more permanent scaling solution is created.

People ask help in paying small amounts of Bitcoin, or ask if I (yes "I") accept altcoins. I usually suggest FixedFloat.com to exchange small amounts of altcoin to Bitcoin at a low fee, but just in case: Do Your Own Research before trusting any site.
I also recommend using your own Bitcoin wallet (such as Electrum) instead of exchanges with very high withdrawal fees, especially the sneaky ones like Binance who try to convince people to accept their own made-up tokens instead of real Bitcoin. And again: do your own research, and make sure you don't download malware.

Someone even called me stupid for doing this for free. He kinda has a point Instant Disclaimer: I don't accept payments for whitelisting.
