OK - Peercoin is something new. But all other hundreds of coins are copy/paste with nothing to offer. Nas is one of those forks with nothing actually new, but it's first 2nd gen clone. I just don't understand your reaction. Either you call garbage 99% coins or admit that Nas is the same as every other clone.

Yes, I do call coins that add nothing new garbage. They are quick money making schemes by someone sitting in his mom's basement doing copy and paste.   I can release Nxt clone too (I know enough java) but so can a million others  high school dropouts. But what's the point?
962  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PoS+PoW] eXocoin [EXO]-gen 2.0- dev. from scratch! Give-Away | Open Beta on: April 23, 2014, 11:54:51 PM
why many people love this coin?

I already love this coin!  Cheesy

I like this coin.

Since Nxt launch everybody was doing nothing but talking or scamming. Visacoin, Ethereum, eMunie, Nem, Nxtl, Edgecoin - blah-blah-blah, 2nd generation, blah-blah-blah. Nas got balls to actually launch something, they've got my respect for it. And finally eXo is happening, truly 2nd gen coin with unique code, built in exchange and other stuff. So it is a big deal.

Nas did not launch anything. The did a copy and paste job. They add absolutely nothing new. I don't have respect for cloning just to make money using people hard work.  Fuck nas This isn't nas thread

There are only two unique coins: bitcoin and nxt. All other coins are copy/paste. You hate'em all?

EXO isn't a clone. Litcoin was first to at least change the hashing algorithm. Peercoin was first to use proof-of-stake.   Ethereum, eMunie, Nem, Nxtl do not claim to be clones.

NAS is piece of shit copy and paste. Please take your NAS garbage to your NAS thread

The GUI is an on-top build of the main program. So depending on a compiler flag it builds a console program or our GUI program. Thus the GUI just makes calls through an API of the main program to query data and to pass through action commands. So, yes, a fully functional API is available as well as a functional console build. A small wrapper to allow connecting to the API via sockets will be developed shortly and is not a big deal.

Once again, where is the webpage with clear instructions for exchanges to add the coin?

965  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PoS+PoW] eXocoin [EXO]-gen 2.0- dev. from scratch! Give-Away | Open Beta on: April 23, 2014, 06:24:40 PM
Is there API that exchanges can use to add the coins?

Before the coin is released, please create a webpage with clear instructions that exchanges can use as a reference.

+1.

The best exchange is by far bter.com.

Have you seen what happened with NXT after listing on bter.com?  Wink

Just a though.

true but it will be harder to get on bter.

If someone speaks chinese and have direct contact with bter, then they should try it
967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PoS+PoW] eXocoin [EXO]-gen 2.0- dev. from scratch! Give-Away | Open Beta on: April 23, 2014, 01:36:39 AM
If we are going to be approaching exchanges, I think the best bet would be to start only with Poloniex and then move on to voting on Mintpal.

Mintpal doesn't add coins that aren't btc/ltc clones. Too much work for those lazy morons. That's why they never added nxt even though it won the poll 2 months ago.

We have better chances with

https://bittrex.com
https://nxt-e.com/
https://dgex.com/
https://poloniex.com/
https://vircurex.com/

lets flood their email so they can test the API and be ready at the time of launch

Who wants to contact exchanges and ask them to start testing right now so that they can be first to add it after the launch?

Graviton is active in the forum and he is Dgex owner https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=5187

No dgex, they already posted NAS - an obvious get rich quick scheme thought up by NXT big bag holders.

So what? Any exchanges can post any coin, scam or not, -- it's a free world.  If exo needs to succeed, it needs to get on exchanges. More exchanges the better.

970  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: April 22, 2014, 09:38:34 AM

What?  If someone has full access to BTT server, they can probably access the messages, password length wouldn't do anything, as I doubt the text on the server is encrypted by user's password.

And that "50+ char" password things is total nonsense. People just make up these numbers out of thin air.  elliptic curve cryptography   (used by bitcoin and nxt and all other cryptos) can be cracked in 128-bits operations -- that is equal to about 22 char random password.

WHAT?
Pliiz use consistent vocabulary, not char, bit, word ...  oh, you edited the post Smiley

What means "password length wouldn't do anything, as...the text...is encrypted by...password" ?

u r saying 50 chars long password is not safe.
How do you validate that?

The hacker must still try all the possible passwords with length 8, 9, 10, 11, ......... 50, 51, ....
How long does it take to try those for ONE account ?

No, what I said was 50+char is overkill. Your used bitcoin address (and NEM that uses ECDSA cryptography) is only 128 bits strong. A random 22 char password is stronger than that.

Its so awesome to see this project evolve.

Just a quick shout out for everybody on the stakeholders list to get a strong password for your BTT account!

What is strong? Are 15 random alpha-num characters enough? How many characters do you recommend?

Mine is 65  ;DI think in some nxt tutorial they reccommend 50+

You can't compare NXT to BTT. You'd have to brute BTT over the internet which would take forever with the 45 sec limit.
However if BTT get's hacked and they are bruting locally then the 50+ will help you but I hope that people would be informed and required to reset their pwd rather quickly.

Other ex-devs ( like J.L. from NXT) are already setting trust in NEM  Grin

NEM is in discussion in other threads outside our own, too. What a tremendous sign for NEMs interest in BTT.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=576480.msg6311955#msg6311955

Ex-dev? I think you are wrong. J.L is the leading light for Nxt. I can't say enough good things about him (as well as Cfb and some other developers) and they are the main reason I still hold on to a chunk of Nxt.

same here!

I just thought J.L. leaved NXT.

No, Jean Luc is still the main nxt developer. If I am not mistaken, he is original stakeholder, or very early adapter, at least.

originally the IPO end date was listed as April 20th, apparently they changed that without any explanation.

brute force attack is easily detected by btt server. Any 8 char password should be fine, as long it's  not on cracked password list.

now that second stage ipo is over and lesser amount is invested than expected, will the proportions be re-worked?

What? Where you have been reading the exact amount of investments?
How do you know about the exact amount of escrowed investments, please?
I'm in contact with Anon. Just waiting for a final answer to have the exact number for the calculations.

Meh... agian too late for the Beta test... Would it be possible to have a testnet up inbetween te releases?

I understand it would need some restarts every now and then, but I keep missing the actual testing window, and I really would like to test it a bit.
Yeah well, once it is somewhat stable we will have an always running testnet. We do have the hope that the next update will be stable for more than 10 hours. Although we did not spend much time today since it is eastern we found already a critical bug in the block_done_sync thread and fixed it. That caused at least an async on one node, maybe on a second one as well. More about our progress and changelog within the release of the next update (v0.57). Like with all updates so far we do keep the approach to not only have a bugfix update but also show some progress at least with every update. ETA still very late monday or tuesday.

what will be signing method in the final version?  I hope you stick with Ed5519 http://ed25519.cr.yp.to/

http://safecurves.cr.yp.to/

We will allow the user to choose between ed25519 ("ec 256 donna") and  X9_62_prime256v1 ("ec 256 nist") and rsa 2048 ("rsa 2048") on each new address creation like it is in our beta versions. So it will not be changed. It is perfectly fine to allow more than one signing method.

can you rename "ec 256 donna" to ed25519-donna? and rename "ec 256 nist" to NIST P-256.

That would be clearer
976  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXTL: Next Coin Lite - Officiall Topic - Fair Distribution on: April 21, 2014, 08:46:07 AM

My guess is that devs speak with each other and Nxtl devs consulting with Nxt devs.

As for fighting puppets I posted some thoughts in this thread and was totally ignored. I've got not a single answer from devs. To be honest I'm tired to shout in nowhere. I suggested some measures to Utopian but was ignored. At least he didn't accept payments from exchanges. Now Nxtl devs don't even want to forbid sending payments from exchanges although I posted an image with taint analysis which showed that 11% payments were made from Bter. I don't want to post comment with huge red letters, I'm sure they've read it but didn't take them in consideration.

We do not ignore, we changed the rules before registering ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=498662.msg6234783#msg6234783 ), we analyze and discuss. Must take into account all new users have to come from other sites

IPO was supposed to end on 20th. Why is it still open?

I remember he said he has a team. Maybe it is just you so I don't know. It doesn't matter because I already said I don't mind if he (or his team) has 5-10-20% or more of Nxt (this is may be sixteen times). It is certainly way better than giving 5% of Nxt to some random guy who think he is so smart because he just happen to be there at the right time.

Ok. Funny thing is that BCNext didn't even pay 1 BTC as he was going to do. Coz he wanted to have 21 BTC invested but another guy sent 1 BTC right before the funding was over. (It's according to his own words, there is still a possibility that he lied and actually owns 50% of the coins.)

If BCnext had several sock puppets investing (I doubt it), others could have done the same too.  It was open process on public forum.  There were no developer's stake. There were no special exceptions for the developer. The rules were same for everyone. All distributions were verifiable as it happened publicly with user's submitted SHA256 public note to investment address.

979  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: someone PLEASE confirm that NAS is a joke or test on: April 20, 2014, 07:04:08 PM
NAS have taken a test version of the new Nxt UI, developed by Wesley, which was not yet ready for production use - but they don't care, it is a get rich quick scheme, nevermind that it is other people's money this software is supposed to handle. They have also based their release on a Nxt version with a known critical vulnerability, which was fixed in Nxt long ago.

I never invested a penny in NAS, but the developer claimed it was based on 8.12 if I remember correctly.
980  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: April 20, 2014, 06:51:00 PM

Someone said earlier that BCNext was the fairest developer. That's not true. If he really didn't take more than any of the other stakeholders

No, he didn't, and that needed to be said given a lot of people bash nxt in this thread for "unfair" distribution which is a pathetically dishonest criticism as nxt IPO was open to anyone for 2 months and  Bcnext (the developer) didn't demand any extra shares for himself.

One thing we can say about nxt inventor: he wasn't greedy.

Doesn't he own ~5% of NXT?

No, as I understand, everyone was allowed 1 btc max investment. bcnext was not exception to that rule. The 1 billion nxt were divided among the investors. This is all public record and happened in the open forum. Unless he was using a sock puppet account to invest twice, there was no special "stock" for bcnext. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303898.msg3254124#msg3254124

The question is does he own 5% ? not what's the rules of distribution?.  I don't mind he owns 5% or more at all but here you should answer the question instead of evade it.

There is no way to prove who BCnext is and what he owns. All we know  this is what  happened in the public forum

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303898.msg3256852

where anyone was allowed to invest btc (cap was 1 btc) and all coins were distributed among the investors. The IPO was open for 2 months. There was no creator's cuts or special stakes for bcnext.

This is all public record.

BCNext was on the record saying sending 1BTC and he was on the record saying he has a team sending BTC in as well.

I went through all his posts and there is no record of him saying he has a team sending BTC. Care to post proof of that claim? In fact there is no proof he had a team of any kind. He appeared to be one man show until he hires (pays with his own money) Cfb. This  history is all in public record too.
