961  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 04, 2021, 04:20:24 PM
The board will not fight against the government and will follow whatever they say. The only reason i think the IPL was not shifted when the second wave started is because the government wanted to conduct the IPL in India itself.

The ICC wants politicians to stay away from cricket administration. But the BCCI is full of politicians, who have hardly any connection to cricket. Some of the state associations are controlled by the ruling party, some by the Sharad Pawar gang and a few by the Srinivasan mafia. There is hardly any state board that is under the control of former cricketers. So it was only natural for the BCCI to go by the government directive. The government needed money desperately and they just asked the BCCI clowns to schedule the tournament in India.

@Sithara007 I’m happy for those teams that’ll get a chance to participate in the World Cup, because World Cup is a precious tournament and I can understand why they wanted to be a part of it. However I don’t think many player’s will be happy, as it’ll increase their playing time, and I’m keen to know what the player’s think of this new format.

The players have welcomed the announcement and it is the businessmen who are not happy. If you want fewer matches, then you need to follow the format that was used for the 2007 World Cup. But the BCCI are afraid of this format, because they failed to qualify for the second round in 2007. When other sports are increasing the number of participants (football world cup now has 48 countries, up from 32), I don't understand the mentality of a section of administrators to limit the number of teams in cricket world cup. The current format of 10 countries is not a real world cup. How can a tournament having just 10 teams be termed as a "world" cup?
963  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 03, 2021, 10:14:36 AM
India is not a small country neither does it have a small population. It will take time for the virus to slow down. I think before the worldcup the situation will be far better. If it doesn't then the Worldcup will be shifted to a different location. At the moment things are looking way better than what they were last month.

As per the official figures, yesterday we had almost 3,000 deaths from COVID 19 (the real death toll may be much higher). I wouldn't call that as an improvement. For comparison, the daily death toll was around 100 during January-February. I don't think that the situation is going to change in a month or two. Going by the trend, it is going to take at least 6 months to achieve a state of normalcy. The virus will not slow down on its own. It will only slow down if the majority of the population is vaccinated.
964  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: June 03, 2021, 10:02:18 AM
That is a dream I guess, I have not head anything now. There were some news about adding cricket in Olympics last year. If it happens it will be in next Olympic. ICC and other powerful board must support this cause. If it gets added then many countries will start adopting cricket.

There was a chance to apply for Olympic inclusion, but the ICC refused to do that for the 2028 Olympics. The next opportunity would come at 2032. It is very unfortunate. Actually it was Jagmohan Dalmiya who first attempted to get cricket included in the Olympic Games. He was aiming for the 2012 Olympics, but before he could achieve his objective he was thrown out as the ICC president. After that for almost 15 years the ICC and BCCI was under the control of the mafia. Two precious decades have been lost and in terms of popularity cricket has lost out to smaller sports such as hockey and rugby in the meantime.
965  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does anyone know any good volatile coins that I can make a some money with? on: June 02, 2021, 06:12:23 PM
If volatility is your only parameter, then why don't you go for Ripple (XRP)? The legal battle with SEC is still ongoing, and when some ruling is made against them, you can expect the XRP exchange rates to go down by 60% or 70% (it has already happened multiple times). You can accumulate using these dips, and then sell when the prices are back to the normal levels. Another coin that comes to my mind is Dogecoin, but it is too overpriced right now. You can also go for BCH or ETC, if you are OK with more moderate gains.
966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Iran bans Bitcoin too on: June 02, 2021, 05:59:06 PM
Unless the OP gives a link from a reliable mainstream media article, I am going to treat this as fake news. Iran needs Bitcoin much more than the other way around. Recently, the regime even encouraged Bitcoin mining inside its jurisdiction, in order to earn valuable Forex and circumvent the sanctions. For the last few weeks, cryptocurrency sector has been flooded with FUD, and this rumor is the latest one being used for that purpose. Iran contributes to around 5% of the hash power and any ban could potentially bankrupt the miners there.
because indeed this news actually does not exist and indeed iran does not ban bitcoin which iran prohibits that is mining is only temporary, only 4 months because they lack electricity supply and when bitcoin mining occurs iran is increasingly short of electricity so it causes power outages.
we don't know what will happen after 4 months but there is definitely no statement from the iran government banning bitcoin.

The title given by the OP was wrong, because Iran never banned Bitcoin ownership or trading. All they did was to temporarily prohibit the mining of Bitcoin for a specific duration due to power shortage. When posting these sort of news, the users need to be careful (or rather more honest). Here a ban on the mining of Bitcoin is given as an overall ban on BTC. The OP might have received a large number of replies and views, but in the long term these sort of posts are not good for us.

But there are a few other things that need to keep in mind. According to the Iranian government, 85% of the mining is being done illegally. The authorities need to check why this proportion is so high. Perhaps the licensing system is corrupt or inefficient and that is why most of the mining is done in a discrete way.
967  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla Bought 1.5 B in Bitcoins on: June 02, 2021, 05:47:05 PM
And also whether they have purchased any new coins in the second half of May.

As a long time Elon Musk admirer, the only way he could gain some respect to me, is only if at the EOQ TSLA earning call it turns out they actually bought the fuc*ing dip Elon caused himself.
Manipulation of an unregulated market at his finest.

That would be against the law, right? First he crashed the prices. And second he used the opportunity to accumulate coins at cheap rates (since he owns a large % of Tesla shares, he can't escape from responsibility even if it is Tesla which made the purchase). Now my second question is, how can he (either directly or indirectly) purchase Bitcoin again, when he has already denounced it? First he needs to come out in public and state that he is going back to his earlier stance.
968  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: June 02, 2021, 05:35:29 PM
If cricket is included in the Olympics, cricket will get world class respect. There are many people in America and China who do not know the game of cricket properly. Cricket is limited to a few countries. Adding cricket to the Olympics will give almost everyone in the world a chance to learn about cricket, and they will become interested in cricket. Which is good for the future of cricket. Hopefully the ICC will take the necessary steps in this regard.

Agreed. Olympic sports are always held in high regard by everyone. Take the case of football. Actually they don't need the Olympics to popularize the sport. Because football is being played in every nook and corner of the globe. But still, FIFA has made sure that football remains as an Olympic sport. They always look for the long term benefit. If cricket becomes an Olympic sport, then definitely sports-crazy countries such as China, Japan, South Korea and the US are going to take note. Because for them, an Olympic medal is priceless.

BTW, anyone watched the Netherlands vs Ireland ODI today? It was a cracker of a match and in the end Netherlands won by 1 run. I paid ₹399 for annual subscription of FanCode, to watch this match.  Grin
969  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 02, 2021, 05:21:56 PM
Covid-19 situation in India is terrifying. Above all we can't forget how the world most expensive franchises league IPL stopped due to horrible health crisis. Presently the circumstance become impossible to control as the people continuously avoid their own duty and I realize that since starting they are throwing their responsibilities on Central Govt.

Oh.. please.. don't get me started.

We all know what happened with the IPL. The Initial plan was to conduct the tournament in the UAE. Then the BCCI got too arrogant, and shifted the tournament to India. And even then it would have proceeded with any issue. But they again made mistakes. The management allowed Varun Chakravarthy to leave the bio-secure bubble and then re-enter, without any quarantine measure. Varun ended up infecting at least a dozen others inside the bubble. Rather than calling this as a mistake, I would term it as deliberate sabotage. How can these people be so careless?
970  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investing in bitcoins for future kids on: June 02, 2021, 02:05:47 PM
Investing for the kids means that you need to store the coins for at least 10-15 years. I am a big supporter of long term HODL, but this is a bit too long. You need to review the future potential of Bitcoin after every 2-3 years. And Bitcoin itself is only around 12 years old. How can you be 100% confident that it is going to survive for another 15 years? There is always a chance that a better innovation may be able to replace Bitcoin as the no.1 cryptocurrency. What you will do if that happens?
971  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin ever become a widely adopted global payment solution? on: June 02, 2021, 01:38:42 PM
PayPal has already integrated it to its platform. Visa and Master are exploring the possibility. So I would say that we are on the right track. The cryptocurrency puritans are not going to be happy, because PayPal is probably aiming for a hybrid approach between Crypto and Fiat. For payments, cryptocurrency will be first converted to fiat before it is transferred to the merchant. I am perfectly fine with this, but some of the oldies here would be horrified at such a possibility.
972  Economy / Economics / Re: No new millionaires come from stock market in 2020/2021 on: June 02, 2021, 01:24:27 PM
Stock market in general did went up a lot this year, but also remember how low it got as well. I do agree that if you invested smart then you made a great deal of profit, look at just amazon and how awesome it is doing, that is a smart business because when people are in lockdown they order stuff from amazon instead of going out to buy them, simple as that. However what if you were invested in an airline business? I mean they were all grounded and couldn't fly and that is the proof that you would lose a ton of money.

Stock market and crypto market is different, in stock market you have great stocks and horrible stocks, in crypto unless you buy some shitcoin, the top 50 or even top 100 all go up together and go down together, rarely you see anything that acts all of its own the other way around, so if you are invested in crypto, you could potentially feel safer.

I would think twice before saying that cryptocurrency market is safer when compared to the stock market. This year was an exceptionally rewarding one for cryptocurrency investors. But that doesn't mean that things will remain the same in the near future. The potential returns are much higher in the cryptocurrency market. You won't get 100x or 200x returns in 12 months, if you invest in any stock (you need to be a venture capitalist, to have that possibility). That is possible, however with cryptocurrency. But at the same time, the chance that your investment may go down by 95% in a few months is also greater with the cryptos (it actually happened, in 2018).
973  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: June 02, 2021, 01:07:40 PM
It has been claimed many times that cricket should be included in the Olympics. But it is not being done. Many peoples believe that the inclusion of the Cricket in Olympics, some cricket boards like India and England will lose their influence over the ICC. So the big boards don't want cricket to be included in the Olympics.

The biggest obstacle used to be BCCI. But now they have received assurance from the government that BCCI would not come under the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), even if the sport is included in the Olympics. Another issue was that previously BCCI was controlled by the Srinivasan- Sharad Pawar gang. They were opposed to the inclusion, because the monetary returns for ICC/BCCI was low. But the current leadership under Ganguly has taken a much more favorable view regarding this subject. Even if cricket is included in the Olympics, it will not make much difference for the test nations. But for associate nations such as Netherlands, China and Japan, that means millions of USD worth of funding from the government.
974  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 02, 2021, 12:57:49 PM
BCCI requested ICC to give some time before taking decision on T-20 wc hosting rights so ICC delayed the decision by 1 more month but good news is they are already exploring other venue in the middle east along with UAE.

ICC explores T20 WC venues in Middle East

Do you think that the situation may drastically change in just one month? Even if by some miracle the number of daily cases go down by 90% or 95%, there will always be a possibility of a third wave. There should be no more postponements after this one month period, as it is getting too late. Organizers need to arrange the logistics and other things. Also, the teams need to plan their travel, as well as other preparations. It is simply not possible to hold the tournament in India, unless at least 60% of the population gets vaccinated.
975  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin had 1 minute block time and 1 minute difficulty retarget on: June 01, 2021, 05:20:50 PM
As far as a 51% attack is concerned, the source of the malicious hashrste is irrelevant. If a single entity controls 51% of the hashrate, and can sustain that for long enough, then any number of confirmations can be overturned.

A few months back, someone actually did a rough calculation on the cost of a 51% attack on Bitcoin. According to his estimate, it will take hardware worth $5.46 billion to start such an attack. Now the question is, can so much of mining hardware be purchased in one go? Now comes the second part. Hardware worth this much amount will require a proportionate amount of electricity, which will be around 125 TWh per hour.  This means that such an attack will be possible only if it is spread across several countries.
976  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: June 01, 2021, 04:54:09 PM
Which is more practical than claiming that everything is under control, this is a good example where this virus spread
more instead of containing the virus.

Covid is really hurting every side of the world better to spread the awareness of getting the vaccines and take this virus
seriously.

Spreading awareness is difficult because of the involvement of political groups and business interests. Here in India, there is a massive social media campaign to discourage people from getting vaccinated or to get admitted to hospitals in case they become infected with COVID. I have received several audio messages, which claim that people who get admitted in hospitals are being used for organ harvesting. And then there is another campaign which claims that the vaccine will make you impotent.
977  Economy / Economics / Re: CBDCs are not an "opportunity". They'll likely offer you less than you have now. on: June 01, 2021, 04:42:36 PM
The only similarity between a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and a "true" cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin is that both of them are in digital format and use the Blockchain to conduct transactions. CBDC is essentially fiat currency in crypto format. Unlike Bitcoin, there is no limit on the maximum supply and the Blockchain will be controlled by a central entity. The entity will be able to revert transactions, and freeze the funds within any wallet as per it's liking. In short, you will get something like the PayPal USD.
978  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China bans mining is good for Bitcoin on: June 01, 2021, 02:22:35 PM
During the past several years, I have seen several posts here claiming that China is about to ban Bitcoin trading and mining. And on every occasion, it was proved to be fake news later. Even I am not comfortable with China accounting for the lion's share of mining hash power. But despite that monopoly, there have been no attempt by the mining pools to user their monopoly for anything that could harm the reputation of Bitcoin. And I don't think that the situation will get any better, in case the hash power gets distributed across the globe.
979  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Iran bans Bitcoin too on: June 01, 2021, 02:07:46 PM
Agree, humans always find a way to get out of things and this ban is just a piece of cake for them, although the market will definitely get affected by these ban even if the people are crafty when accessing bitcoin.

Nope. It is not easy. If the ban was on Bitcoin trading, then I would say that there are ways to get around. But they have banned Bitcoin mining (the OP wrongly posted as "Iran bans Bitcoin"). Now it is not that easy to anonymously mine Bitcoin. Trading can be done digitally and therefore it is easy to use a VPN and hide your identity. But this is not possible with mining. Physical hardware is involved and you need electricity and cooling. It will be impossible to do Bitcoin mining in a 100% anonymous manner.
980  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is the fastest asset to hit 1 trillion marketcap on: June 01, 2021, 01:54:26 PM
indeed we must instill thoughts like yours. when there is a big correction, we have to start investing and let it go in the next few years. things like this are not easy, even though they seem easy, because we let our assets in the next few years, of course, the more often we look at charts, there will be a lot of inner war in our psychology to do something

I have noticed one thing. Most of the investors don't panic when their stocks go down by 10% or even 20%. But the same people get in to panic mode, whenever their crypto holdings go down by 10% or 20%. Why this different approach for different assets? If you want to get good profits from cryptocurrency, the first thing that you need to do is to stay away from panic selling. Other important things to do is to ignore shitcoins and scam projects, and to keep your holdings secure.
