981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OK Mod told me no Child boards - Then "Cyrptocurrencies" Own forum? on: May 09, 2013, 11:53:13 PM
Creating an "alt currencies" category on a bitcointalk forums makes about as much sense as a "bicycle" category on a motorcycle forum.

ya right , that's why he started a new hosted forum - come join up ! : D

Who is "he" and what forum are you referring to? Your other sockpuppet account "jimmyk"?

You're just drawing the mouth of the fish. Next month you'll be drawing it's top fin.

Unless of course the fish is dead, in which case he will have flipped upside down but that doesn't change what I said.
984  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cryptocurrencies without transaction history on: May 09, 2013, 10:40:39 PM
I don't say that there no need of blockchain Smiley. Question is why there is need of transaction chain for every coin i.e. why balances information is not enough.

Where does the balance information come from? Surely it would come from calculating all the transactions.
985  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cryptocurrencies without transaction history on: May 09, 2013, 10:25:46 PM
Hi all,

Since I'm newbie I need to create several posts on this forum, so here is mine)
I've noticed that all known (to me) cryptocurrencies are strore full transaction history for every available "coin". So, is to store this history really necessary? A simple alt. way may be just to store current balances of every user. Actually it even seems to enough to strore one-way accumulator hash of all balances and send required for every node hash update when new block is generated.

If you can figure out how to do it without needing a blockchain, you'll have the only decentralized cryptocurrency in the world that doesn't require mining.

Did you ask and answer that question yourself?

The extreme example was meant to prove a point that under some emotional circumstances, people are willing to change their "beliefs" to a more socially geared one for the greater good (and potentially greater personal inconvenience). When that stops being true, credit card companies will stop offering chargebacks.
988  Economy / Goods / Re: Twilight by Stephanie Meyer on: May 09, 2013, 10:11:19 PM
What you do with the book really depends on what part you hate-- the book itself or the fans. If you hate the book, toss it in the trash. If you hate the fans, then the opportunities for trolling are endless. Like copying the entire book, but changing certain aspects of it to make Bella have a vampire AND wolf baby twins, and have Jacob is actually gay and was only angry because Bella was taking his dream man away from him. Release the book on the internet as the "leaked original" and watch the madness unfold.

Now use this as a precedent and ask for a resolution on the matter of "bitcoin".
990  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: May 09, 2013, 09:22:44 PM
The truth is that this post went through a lot of different phases.

First cheering joy.

Then, doubts start spreading.

After than, burst of irrational anger. Insults and accusations fly all over the place.

Suddenly, denial.

And finally, acceptance  Grin

Speak for yourself, I'm still in denial.
991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do most bitcoin users actually think.. on: May 09, 2013, 09:15:17 PM
Bitcoin won't replace fiat just like credit cards haven't replaced cash and PayPal hasn't replaced credit cards. Bitcoin will eventually supplement existing currencies.

Bitcoin will probably replace Western Union and the like, however.

BTW, if Bitcoin becomes more prevalent, more users will be earning their wages or selling goods for BTC so I think there will be even LESS need for Bitcoin ATMs, etc.

Absolutely commonsensical response. Why more people don't realize this is beyond me. Stop preaching about the bitcoin of the future and starting using the bitcoin of today.
992  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: May 09, 2013, 09:13:19 PM
I think Batch 2 and 3 will go out at the same time..just a hunch

Yeah, we know what your hunches are worth.

Aye! Ten more days till shipping time. Let's add more pillars to the BTC network... and get rewarded in doing so. I leave you with this pic, gentlemen.

That wine bottle must surely be empty by now.

I'm not sure if that comes off as the totally epic burn you intended once you factor in this.
994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin article on Wikipedia on: May 09, 2013, 08:48:29 PM
So someone very (un)kindly reported one of our Bitcoin listings on the local auction/shopping site (basically an eBay clone, but they've been around for like 10 years). They say that what we're selling is illegal. In defense of their report they quotes this line from the Wikipedia article on Bitcoin: "A large share of such commercial use is believed to be for illicit drug and gambling transactions."

Despite ongoing discussions in the Talk section of that article, and despite the quoted references simply not saying that, it seems that the sentence stands and is not going to be modified or removed. In disagreement with this, I've updated the Wikipedia article on the US Dollar and added in this line a few days ago: "A significant share of the commercial use of U.S. dollar bills is believed to be for illicit drug and gambling transactions." I do not think that the Bitcoin article should list such a specious "fact" without any evidence to support it, and most definitely not in the opening paragraphs.

So...does anybody have any sway as a Wikipedia editor that can either remove this "fact" or at least move it to a different part of the article and make it clear that it is supposition?

You've done exactly what I would have done. Shove people's hypocrisy right in their faces by using these tactics to set precedents.

I don't think he's a troll, just very skeptical and (at least in this thread) seems to be missing the point.

Think of a bitcoin address as being a transaction ID in Paypal. Would you want every transaction ID to be the same for every customer's orders? Doesn't a system have to make a *new* transaction ID for every single order?

Your logic: "That sounds too complicated. I guess we shouldn't take money from people and provide products or services in exchange.."

edit: If you actually *did* have a business with thousands of orders, you'd already realize that this is part of the business and businesses either learn to deal with it effectively and efficiently, or they die. This simple fact precedes the bitcoin argument by miles.
997  Economy / Economics / Re: Billionaires hate Bitcoin. on: May 09, 2013, 07:12:36 PM

Some billionaires know about Bitcoin, but they certainly do not either worry or hate Bitcoin.

Billionaires generally own large companies selling real goods, or have holdings in properties or in other peoples companies that also make and sell real goods and services. All of these things will be worth a lot of money, irrespective of whether we denominate them in USD, Euros, Gold or Bitcoins.

Do you think Coke or any of the biggest global 1000 companies will disappear as a result of Bitcoin - no, people will still want to drink Coke, drive cars, wash their clothes, take medicine, live in a home etc and these companies and assets will be worth the same in comparative terms as they are now. Bitcoin has much going for it, but there is so much crazy delusion about what it might achieve in here that it's unreal.

Thank you.
