982  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3500GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: August 12, 2013, 08:54:36 PM
Thanks for testing. Still got a little bit more to squeeze out of it but the cpu usage will always look a little higher due to the driver cpu usage all being attributed to cgminer now instead of hidden in the operating system (since there is no driver with direct usb).
I've completed the rework of the stratum work generation code which was where most of the high CPU usage on p2pool was, and uploaded new firmware with the newly released version 3.3.3 of cgminer:

http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/avalon/20130813/
great, seems i have to try stratum + p2pool again, as stratum was worse than getwork and +<diff>, tough i dont have avalons Wink

OP, is this Bitcoin (sha256) algo, or Litecoin (scrypt) algo? That's pretty good if you're mining Litecoins. Bad if Bitcoin...
no laptop CPU does 0.4MHs @ scrypt Tongue
Ah, didn't see that it was "8 of 8 cores" (hinting CPU). Figured it was a newer laptop with a 78xx on it or something.
np, i failed with my 400MHs too Cheesy

985  Economy / Speculation / Re: AVAdayTrader... I'm here to change your lives. on: August 12, 2013, 08:37:01 PM
Hi fellow bitcoiners, My name is David and I'm new to the forums but not new to making money day trading. I've traded everything from BTC, LTC, Gold, Silver, Natural Gas, euro/usd, usd/chf usd/jpy, aud/chf, nasdaq100, dj30, ftse100, cotton, sugar, just to name a few.

In the next few weeks I'll be rolling out a trading tool I call "David's forex/commodity/crypto-coin picks.

For the first little while I'll be giving out free picks and posting some of my positions I take, once a few members who have been here a while have made money with my picks, I'll start selling my picks on a weekly basis.

If anyone here has and suggestions for me I'd love to hear them, I'm smart enough to know what I know and smart enough to know what I don't.

I look forward to making you guys some money and padding my pockets along the way.

David
post references, otherwise -> scam possibility: 99%

Firstly, I am not a scam/scammer/fraud/thief. I live by the motto "do on to others as you wish to be done to you".
Second, while I understand your want and need to protect the community I have not solicited any coins/funds/securities.  All I've done is introduce myself and ask if there were any suggestions for me. I plan on updating this thread later tonight with the last week's positions I have taken and the results of those picks (all are in the green so far, lets see how natural gas closes today though)

I myself am still in training, I've been doing this with the help of a family member for about 2 months and up to now I am in the green to the tune of about 2000 USD. My "jedi" who's taken me under his wing has earned over 85000USD in the last 18 months.

It was his idea for me to come here and start an account to maybe try to sell our/his tips/picks in the future but for now I`m here to chat it up and make friends.

David
i didnt say its a scam Wink i just wanted to help to get rid of future possible problems. things here are a bit different, ie "everyone is a thief until he proofs he isnt" which kinda makes it hard as newcomer, il agree.
the more informations you post (about what you do, what you did and who you are), the less chance of it being scam and the more ppl will trust you.
the "I am not a scam/scammer/fraud/thief" dosnt work as everyone says it (even the most obvious ones) where we come back to the "everyone is a thief until he proofs he isnt".

greetings
986  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] profit switching auto-exchanging pool - middlecoin.com on: August 12, 2013, 08:29:32 PM
I think Litecoin should eliminate from middlecoin pool. because for about 100MH/s that this pool has, it takes 24 hours to find a block. Since we dont mine litecoin for 24hours, all of the shares result to nothing!

What do you think hdo??

Good point.
just saw CoinBuzz post due to your quoting (hes ignored).
this is a false understanding of mining. you cant know when you find a block (you can find a block with every hash you submit, but that would be extreme luck). its about mining the most profitable coin, if the pool finds a pool during the LTC round, it was worth it. if not, well you wanted to mine the most profitable stuff... math Tongue
it seems most ppl think that submiting lower (ie, diff 512 in this case) hahses builds a bigger share and this one solves a block which is wrong. then there are others who are saying; if you find nothing for 24h, your chance of getting a block is much higher. this is also false, if you find a block or not is not affected by all work done in the past!

greetings

I think you misunderstand my point... maybe. Smiley  Lemme try again.

I completely understand that time to find a block is effectively random. You don't know when they are going to come.

BUT you can pretty well get an idea of an expected time to find given a hashrate - @100Mh/s you can assume 12hrs for LTC (Not sure if that is entirely accurate, but lets just assume for now).    If we never get to stay on LTC for more than 30minutes, then there is a very small chance that we would find a block.  Sure, we may find one in 10 minutes, but the average would be 6hrs.

I think his point, and my "good point" comment was based on that fact.  If we can assume we find other alt-coins (on average) much faster, then the likelihood of finding one before we switch to a new coin is higher than with LTC.  We would seem to be better off handling faster block coins than long block coins.

Does that explain my comment better?
yes, i agree with you if you look at it in case of short-term. in long-term i cant agree as you will get once a pretty fast ltc block, and sometimes else nothing for the round. this means variance will hurt you in the first days, but the overall will be worth it. but then there is another problem, this pools has proportional payout, meaning its perfect for pool hopping. pool hopping + joining the LTC round (as you can see what coin you mine due to the payout address your mining to) when there has been no block for a long time "may incrase your luck" to get a quick LTC at the expense of others. the best way would be to switch to PPLNS/DGM (i prefer PPLNS with a 1day window, to reduce variance alot). it wouldnt surprise me, if someone has created a script to automate this as it can yield alot more than normal mining...

400MHs with a Mobile CPU (ie, laptop CPU). forget it, thats not possible!
He said KHPS which is kilohashes per second, not megahashes.
woops, dont mind me Tongue ty!

Is a rate of ~400KHPS decent at all for a laptop, and what sorts of profits could I expect from it per day/week/month?

Also, does anyone know how I can increase the rate? Im using 8 of 8 cores in performance mode.

989  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Experimenting with Jalapeno firmware... on: August 12, 2013, 08:09:29 PM
Can we program the long boards (Little single / Single) with the Avalon DRAGON successfully?
yes, but take the 1.2.6+ firmware due to XLINK

Theoretically this is clear to me. My singles report firmware version 1.2.6 and I saw the firmware version 1.2.6 release from Juke-Jr. From my experience with other companies, I know that sometimes companies do not cleanly declare version numbers. So it could be that the version in my singles is not exactly the same than the released one.
Beside of this, it could be that BFL is doing anything during there production/test process, which is writing additional information into the device, which could be lost by a flash update. Unfortunately I didn't yet find the time to look deep enough into the sourcecode to exclude something like this. I know all of what I'm writing about is not very likely but possible and the investment was high enough to think twice about risking to overwrite the flash, beside of loosing warranty.

So, do you, or anybody else,  already has flashed your own compiled firmware based on the released version 1.2.6?

From what I've seen it should be enough to setup the product define correct for the target unit, right?

yes, but there are 2 defines, 1 saying single and a little bit deeper jala (if single), youd have to change this. i cant remember correctly but i guess you should be able to figure it out Wink
you cant really kill it, if you create a nonworking firmware, just create another one for it.
if the security bit is not set, i suggest dumping the actual firmware as a form of backup (the 1.0.0 had the security bit set, so you couldnt do this).
if BFL didnt want us to play with the firmware and reflash the units, why should they make it so easy for us to do it? (releasing firmware + nice jtag)

So you have already flashed your single(s). Was it the 30 or 60 GH version?
no i dont have the single, i just read trough all the threads + source to get my information, im playing with 2 jalas atm (maybe i can get a hold of a single and some more jalas soon Tongue)
btw, another thing. if you flash your singles, carefully watch the temps as cooling will be crucial!

Thanks Ashitank.

Additional information.

...
2) use the cgminer "java API stat" and look at the last miner (that should be last one due to hotplug)
...
"java API stats"

And it lists all the pools after the devices, so yes the last device (i.e. where [ID] != POOL* which come after the devices)
Thanks for pointing that out. Smiley

Another tip, if you want to hardcode all engines to be running (regardless it's functional or not) change __TOTAL_DIAGNOSTICS_RUN from 10 to 0. It will skip all tests on the engines. Beware of the high HW error rate.

Next thing I wanna try is to change DO_NOT_USE_ENGINE_ZERO and overclocking it to 350mhz on the frequency and see what will happen. Hopefully it won't brick  Grin

Last but not least to max out the fan speed (FAN_CONTROL_BYTE_REMAIN_FULL_SPEED) if the above is successful.
fans are always @ max at the jalapeno model. engine 0 wont work Wink
using nonworking engines is also bad, you cant overclock as high due to the voltage drop.

be aware that AV solutions are mostly placebo, you can never be secure @ winblows... thats a myth

also something to note -> almost all the "professional" (ie, trash) looking stuff and selling (as the OP does try to) equals horrible code and no security...
so this is suicide Tongue
