1901  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PNNV.com - Major update #2 - need your review, again! on: December 20, 2022, 05:12:35 PM
I saw your previous thread when you first introduced yourself as an alternative to Preev.com which is offline.
Although I don't know when they (the developer/owner of preev) fixed the site but preev.com actually is now working (i accessed it by the time of writing), but it doesn't have secured (https://) connection for now.
1902  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to properly store seed phrase during inspection? on: December 20, 2022, 02:13:21 PM
I'm just shocked and believe how the police body cam can find seeds that easily during a simple car inspection because they could hide the seeds in any place and I think if they could find the seeds like that there is no way to be completely sure about hiding a seed phrase.
A car is just so small that you can eventually see anything that was keep inside especially if an "inspection" is done because most cars have common place where to keep belongings either in compartments, under the seat, etc.

About the how's on making the seed secured especially those written in papers, i guess it differs from person to person and experiences.
With my paper backup i don't write numbers or even put "Ledger" or anything related to crypto in that backup just to be safe to anyone else.
1903  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is Bitcoin Core and Escrow? on: December 20, 2022, 07:54:10 AM
Well, honestly speaking, if you are just asking the "meaning" of anything, google is always there to give you detailed answers.
Utilize the use of internet, not everyday you will be newbie to be spoon-feed'ed.
It will be considerable if you are asking the technical aspects of it/them, but for a mere definition/meaning?
1904  Other / Meta / Re: Shall we lock all topics about World Cup 2022 in next 7 or 14 days? on: December 20, 2022, 07:20:26 AM
I reported the 3 remaining threads including the thread opened by hilariousandco which is a global mod by himself to close the topic thread since the event has ended and there's no reason to keep it open. I agree to keep the other thread opened "After the 2022 World Cup" since it's different topic now.
Well, let's see.
1905  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: New Solution to Address the Problem of Gambling in Australia. on: December 19, 2022, 11:56:44 PM
Using up credit cards is something that really needs to have that good control or else you would really be ending up on making yourself in risk of huge deep debt which is something that we do need to avoid.
It "should be" like that but "free money" that can be used "now" will always give temptation to anyone, even me having credit card will have the same experience like that, but good thing i dont gamble with my credit card, only online shopping lol.

In the first place, I don't understand why gambling platforms allow the use of credit cards on their platform. That's clear greedy on their part and most casinos globally don't even accept credit card payments for obvious reasons.
It's one of the hype payment option before, although it has huge risk people are so hype when credit card was introduced and implemented most marketplace, or related shop.
That's why implementing it on gambling have huge advantage to the platform, not thinking the risks behind it. And later on responsible code in gambling related law was implemented.
1906  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: New Solution to Address the Problem of Gambling in Australia. on: December 19, 2022, 11:26:41 PM
The problem:Gambling with credit cards is high-risk in nature and could have serious financial consequences.
Proposed solution: Responsible Wagering Australia is putting forth a new interactive gambling legislation should block operators from offering credit cards as viable payment methods.
The Challenge: If this legislation is implemented, it would also affect lottery tickets, which would not be purchasable through credit cards anymore.
There are really lots of risk using credit cards, while "buy now, pay later" is really helpful for only for the need and wants but this shouldn't be included as a payment option that can be used in gambling. It doesn't differ from lending like what was discussed on the other thread which will result more problem.

Removing credit cards on payment options will have more impact as a solution for prevention of problematic gambling than the challenge mentioned. Also, it will give other payment options to be added on traditional casino, well, crypto has a huge chance to be implemented as well.
1907  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Privacy issues when purchasing hardware wallets on: December 19, 2022, 03:20:07 AM
The Ledger debacle that caused the leak of customer information (down to their home addresses) is making me hesitant in purchasing a hardware wallet.
There are services out there that will buy the hardware wallet on behalf of you, but expect an additional fee for that.
Also, as what mentioned above, Trezor seems more reliable when it comes to privacy, but of course you need to trust them for that. Here's a guide on how to buy a hardware wallet[1].

I've found this resource, is this proper procedure? The guide is incomplete though as it doesn't say how to generate the address from the mnemonic. Could someone fill in the rest?
This is hassle and looks like just experimental and probably not secure. I would prefer to use an existing way, how to create paper wallets or wallets from open source software and generate in an offline device or simply using an air gapped device.

Or is Tails OS/Electrum preferred?
Creating cold storage using electrum is one of the secured and easiest way to create one.

1908  Economy / Services / Re: [WTB] Escrow for bitcointalk account on: December 18, 2022, 02:05:03 PM
Well, people here recommend escrow when dealing someone especially if you're a newbie or dealing to a newbie.
Also, people here discouraged bitcointalk account sales for many reasons including scam and spam although its not agaisnt the rules. Also, escrows are not discourage to accept such deals only those who buy and sell. But despite that very reason you rarely seen escrow that accepts such deals, or maybe just maybe they will accept but for higher price. Who knows, most deals like this are private.
1909  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: what is the best crypto wallet for mobile? on: December 17, 2022, 10:00:31 PM
When considering holding bitcoin or any cryptocurrency in a mobile wallet you should considered a lot of security and privacy measures not just because you have used a "secured", "trusted" wallet by many. I have used and installed so many mobile wallets such as electrum, samurai, mycelium, trustwallet, coinomi, blockstream green, with of course funds on it but i have never experience any hack issues.

You see, it's not all about the wallet you used, but also on how secured your device is and the practice you are following securing your funds. Of course using a "secured" wallet is a plus.
1910  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are we ever going to see this on gambling platforms some day. on: December 17, 2022, 09:50:20 PM
I know there's an E-Sports tournaments for fighting games like this including Tekken and Street fighter. They are available to watch online and we can always organize a betting event for this like for example on this forum if not locally.
I found a site that has lists[1] of previous tournament of mortal kombat mostly the latest one MK11. But since this is considered as an esports probably there are platform who organized betting for this the same but not as big as in dota2, CSGO, LOL and MLBB, PUBG  for mobile games.

1911  Other / Meta / Re: Is word to word copy paste allowed ? on: December 17, 2022, 09:12:50 AM
Yeah, as long the source is provided then its not considered as plagiarism. Look the reported copy-pasted post in this thread[1], you will find how plagiarised posts looks.

Although, those who usually do something like that are those considered spammers by many who only care post counts.

1912  Other / Meta / Re: Gambling Signature Trap Trolls on: December 17, 2022, 06:45:05 AM
2. OP deletes the entire thread minutes/hours just before the signature week is over.
Is it? or mods just moved it to trashcan?

Sounds like this problem is related to signature campaigns particularly post counts. If this is really an issue, better to post on a thread/topic that has lower chance to be deleted then don't just make a post for bare minimum on the campaign's requirements. Besides there are lots of good forum proposals suggested before by other members yet theymos didn't mind it, how about just this one.
1913  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cheap Dedicated Server Hosting on: December 16, 2022, 11:44:42 PM
Well, i think most web hosting now accepts bitcoin and crypto payments, or not. I don't have any experience other than namecheap and hostinger so i can't say about other service. And i have good experience both of these two.

Also, check this list
- Hostwinds
- THCServers
- Host1plus
- Hostsailor

Note, im not affiliated or promoting the services mentioned, always DYOR.
1914  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are we ever going to see this on gambling platforms some day. on: December 16, 2022, 10:26:01 PM
This only happened irl platform/stage like a casual betting pvp, this happened in my place like it was a fiesta if i remember correctly, it was before though. The owner of the consoles organized it and betting take place around the audience only.

But i never see any online platform have this kind of idea on betting. It will be interesting for those fan of mortal combat, and those who actually have this games.
1915  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What do you think about trust wallet? on: December 16, 2022, 07:05:24 AM
You have a very high (and unrealistic) opinion of these centralized services that doesn't seem true based on the history. All the hacks and weaknesses in their platforms in the past aside, we have also seen them be too incompetent in implementing new features like accepting SegWit addresses that most CEXes took years to do something very simple!

Besides when it comes to backdoors the best case scenario is to have them unintentionally. These companies are not bigger than Microsoft and we know their product (Windows) is the mother of all backdoors and it is closed source!
Oh, yeah, right that's why most open source wallets are the most targeted apps of any hacks, scams and phishing, e.g. Electrum. I remember millions was lost and got phished not once[1] but twice[2]. Well, there are lot of hack cases happened in an open source apps too  including the smart contracts[3].
Also, i bet there is no way you can verify that the code published publicly as open source are the same actual codes that were deployed on their live servers. Unless it was compiled by you to build the application from being open source, or from github it self.

And talking about the coinomi, the lost amount of money
were too little compared to electrum.
Well, it is still hacked, and i don't justify any kind of hacked, scam or anything to money theft.

See, either its open source or closed source, hacks and scams happen. While being open source has huge advantage, but the fact that people still need to trust the developers who make the code and conduct the code audit because not everyone can read source codes, so you still need to "trust" someone/developer for your safety and fund security while most people who conduct this scams, hacks, phishing are developers as well.
Same on a closed source apps, you need to trust the people/business behind of those codes.
So who should people trust? Unknown or/and known developers from open source community, or those developer paid by these businesses running those apps or just the business.
Where later on you can sue the business for what incident happen, while you can't to open source developers because they are excluded if people read open source license particularly the MIT, ISC and other no liability open source licenses.

1916  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is There Any Crypto Casino With An In-built Mini Crypto Exchange? on: December 15, 2022, 11:21:25 PM
Why there is no exchange in gambling/casino? Probably because it will require another license to operate as an exchange especially for a usdt pair. For simply bitcoin to other non-usd peg alt, i guess that's okay but it will require another resources to build since its not built-in feature for an casino-software.

I personally hate to gamble with bitcoin, because I could be gambling away 0.05 btc and it appears small, but when converted to usdt, that's a really big amount, this is why I prefer to gamble using usdt, or shiba or TRX, which give me clear indications of what am staking and could possibly lose.
For simple conversion, just google it or other converter site in your new tab. I will consider it as simple way alternative than demanding new feature for a business, although it might be a good feature but it's not inline on their software.
1917  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What do you think about trust wallet? on: December 15, 2022, 10:12:40 AM
Binance (or any similar centralized entity in control of a closed source wallet) doesn't have to be malicious itself, their code could contain backdoors and they could never see it while it is being exploited by hackers, etc. On top of that the other issue with closed source software like this is that they usually rely on a centralized server which means the user has 0 privacy.
I'm still hostile to believe that it will be the case for closed source for having backdoors, or malicious codes. Especially for such business running financial apps, QA and other quality control will always be followed before releasing the app in production.
For privacy matters, indeed its always be the case for most closed source apps.
1918  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What do you think about trust wallet? on: December 15, 2022, 02:33:12 AM
What they are saying is that Trust wallet is not opensource wallet which could mean Binance may have altered something to the codes that are not known to users. Who knows maybe they put some backdoors to it.
Even though this is a "thing" for a closed source application, i think this is not possible "right now" considering binance is the one behind the continuous development of the wallet.
Well, unless they become like FTX which will be the worst to happen in crypto considering how the market was affected previously, or those shitty exchanges, anyway that's a different topic already.

But of course, being security cautious will keep you away from related danger better safe than never.
1919  Other / Meta / Re: Ignored user's post on QUOTE is visible on: December 14, 2022, 11:43:57 PM
I will leave this reply from suchmoon the same case/concern related to ignored/quoted post, posted a year ago.

Someone who quotes your ignored user might have an otherwise useful post. It would be nice to have the quote of the ignored user to be collapsed (and while we're at it, collapse/reduce wall-quotes and large images too) but hiding the whole post would be too harsh IMO.
I see this as most appropriate reason why theymos don't snip/hide the post who quote the post of the ignored user.
1920  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can We Consider This Casino An Industry Giant In Marketing Here In Bitcointalk on: December 14, 2022, 11:31:02 PM
we have quite a number of names doing great things but having a big budget doesn't mean profitable, but to survive this long it might be the case Tongue
But without enough big budget, project will not survive this long. About being profitable, only their marketing and finance team knows it. Also, the fact that they stay this long, that it means that profit > marketing budget because if it's not, what's the reason of continuing the campaign if its not profitable.
