301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do coins with no use case value so high in the Market? on: February 12, 2024, 02:06:56 AM
I have seen several of these tokens, how is this even possible?
Supply and Demand.

If there's somebody who want to buy the token for whatever reason, it will have a value. Just imagine that these coins that you are seeing right now are like Bitcoin when it was starting way back in 2008. Yes, it already has a use case at that time (base on the wallpaper), but nobody really cares at that time. Nowadays, people will invest into different coins for different reasons.

Whether it's profit, or the technology behind it or the use-case. However, many are still investing into coins that has no real use-case at all because of the fact that they believe that they can earn money when they invest on it.
302  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Have you met this kind of investors? on: February 11, 2024, 01:32:12 PM
do you have the opinion that lone investors who are not members of any kind of forum or community about bitcoins or cryptocurrency can still be very successful investors?
Yes.

After all, Bitcointalk isn't the only source of knowledge when it comes to cryptocurrencies. I mean there are many websites out there that can give as much information as Bitcointalk can give (or even more). Though I don't personally know any investor that isn't registered here (I don't know many people around me that's invested into crypto), I still believe that there are some who became successful investors even though they aren't joining any forum.

There are many ways for an investor to gain knowledge. There are many social media platforms out there that gives information as well. Well, when there's many information, there's also many of misinformation out there so just be careful. Cheesy
303  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Day trading or Long term on: February 11, 2024, 12:53:33 PM
~
Which do you prefer and think is better
I'll be a bit bias on this one since I don't do day trading anymore.
What worked for me is long-term holding. Lesser stress on my part, lesser risk. Yes, lesser reward but my quality of life is better now than doing day-trading.

I tried to trade 3x but lose all of money on all of it. Yes, there are some people here that are day trading, and they are earning more than those who are just buying, and holding, but if you are the type of person who don't have time to watch the charts on daily basis, if you're the type of person who don't want to look on their monitor for hours just by looking at the charts, then long-term holding would be the better option for you.

At the end of the day, it's up to you OP if what works for you. If you want to day trade, you can try. If you fail on trading, you can just make a transition to be a long-term holder.
304  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy bitcoin now? on: February 11, 2024, 09:57:42 AM
Do you think it is convenient to buy bitcoin now according to your predictions? Or wait for its value to drop further?
What is/are the reason/s you are buying Bitcoin? Is it for short-term or long-term?
Answer that question and you will know if buying Bitcoin right would be a good thing or not.

Bitcoin's price can drop anytime, but we don't know when it will happen. What we saw during the last few days is that the price of Bitcoin is going up continuously, but there will be a time that it will go down again. We just don't know. Right now, if you want to do DCA then, don't think too much about the current price.

You know what OP, just buy Bitcoin now. Cheesy Buy and be patient because we might see the bull run happening a few months from now, and if you're patient, you will end up getting some profits. Smiley
305  Economy / Economics / Re: If Banks make money out of loans then they should reward those who borrow on: February 11, 2024, 08:53:26 AM
TBH, I don't read articles that much, but damn!!! I don't have time to read a wall of text like that. At least make some double spaces OP to at least make your post cleaner.

I didn't read the whole thread, and just focused on the first part, but banks will not reward those who will borrow. Oh, yes, they will reward those who are borrowing with some points called "credit points" which increases your credibility whenever you're borrowing. Well, I don't know if it's some kind of helpful because I'm not borrowing on banks, but it might be for those who are using the banks that much to get a loan.

As for OP, just forget about ranting about banks and just focus on your life. Don't think too much on things that in the end, will not happen. Have a life and focus on it. There's this thing called "FRACTIONAL RESERVE LENDING" where they can just lend your money to others until your $10,000 will become $100,000 just by lending out your initial money. Cheesy Kind of funny how it works, but that's the reality.
306  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC or Love on Valentine's day. What's your pick? on: February 11, 2024, 08:34:29 AM
It will depend on you.
The question is, do you really need to have a vacation? If yes, then by all means, go. If you don't need it, then don't go. If you're kind of stressing yourself because of trading, then you need something that can at least lessen the amount of stress you're experiencing.

As for me, I have a lover, but we choose to instead use the money to invest into Bitcoin. After all, we've been celebrating Valentines Day many times already that we need to secure our future now hence, choosing to invest the money in Bitcoin than spending it for the holiday. I'm pretty sure that there are some here who are spending their Bitcoins for the holidays and there's nothing wrong there as long as it will not affect your overall portfolio by that much.

I'm not a trader unfortunately so I can't answer your question, but I'm assuming that you're a great trader already so you can just get the Bitcoin that you will spend on vacation in just a few trades. Smiley
307  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 11, 2024, 08:19:37 AM
Curry, time and time again. How does he do it? His range seems limitless. Almost a bad pass from the rookie turns into a turnaround and shoots perfectly into the basket, by Curry. Taking Warriors up by 1 with 0.7 secs remaining. Wiggins fouled the Suns player during their inbound. It is a tricky situation now.
Gets the ball, puts up the three-pointer. BANG!!!!!!!!!
I always love when Mike Breen is the one commentating a Warriors game because of this "BANG!!!!" at the end of the game. TBH, I watched the clip from Youtube 10 times because... I just love repeating it. Cheesy

TBH, it will be a different result if Beal didn't try to steal the ball. If only he stayed in his front and contested that shot, that would be better than just stealing it because there's a chance that Curry might've miss it. Instead, he risked it, tried to steal the ball and gave the greatest shooter of all time a lot of space to make a three-pointer. Anyway, a win is a win for the Warriors. Durant was also shown on camera smiling while watching his old teammate shooting a 3-pointer. Maybe he wants to be back on Golden State again. Cheesy

Another thing, the Dallas Mavs. Man they looked insane against OKC. The 2 new additions, Gafford and PJ Washington immediately delivered big. They really can be the missing piece for a deep playoff run. If Kyrie and Luka stay healthy they will be a force in the west I think.
Aside from the Knicks who are clearly the winners during the trade season, the Mavericks are the 2nd ones.
I mean getting a legit center in Gafford, and a 6'7" player who can drive and shoot from three is a big one for them. Over time, their defense is slowly getting better and better. I just don't know if this current roster of the Mavericks is enough for them to be a playoff contender.
308  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I actually doing it right? on: February 10, 2024, 01:41:27 AM
I've made almost a hundred posts and yet I have only few merit, what am I doing wrong? Are my posts not quality enough? If yes, please I need corrections and guidelines to grow my account. I truly need words of encouragement and affirmation that am on the right track to enable me step up in the game and I also need you guys to help me point out some of my posts that aren't so good, if there are any, so I can learn from my mistakes and do better.
I looked at your post history, and most of them are on your local boards.
Just so you know, there aren't a few merit sources that are giving merits to the local board although there are some merit sources that are giving merits on their local board, I don't think that there is a merit source that gives merits to the Nigerian board. This is one problem why you aren't getting enough merits. Most of your posts are in a section that rarely the merit sources visited.

You aren't doing anything wrong IMO, and what I expected when I visited your post history is that you will be like one of those low-ranked members out there who are posting their proof of authentication on the Bounties section. If that's the case then you really will not earn merit but it wasn't so there's still a chance. Smiley

To answer the text I bolded, IMO, you aren't doing anything wrong. It's just that you are posting mostly in a section where merits aren't distributed that much. I started as a Full member when the merit system was implemented, and luckily I'm not a Legendary member, and you can look at my post history to know where I post the most. It took me years to achieve Legendary, and faster for those who are more knowledgeable than me.

What will I say to you OP if you want to earn more merit is that watch documentaries, and read articles so that you can share something here.
309  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 10, 2024, 01:19:57 AM
~
Oladipo was amazing when he played, but the fact is that he didn't play much, go back and check his history and you will see that he didn't get as much time as he would like to, or teams would like to.
He will be known as one of the players who rejected a huge contract when he was in his prime.
He has the same fate as Isiah Thomas and Kemba Walker. Played well in their prime years with their respective teams then injuries ruined their career until they didn't ever make a comeback to the league anymore. Anyway, there will still be other leagues outside the US that they can play if they still want to play. I mean there are many ex-NBA players playing outside the league already so... Oladipo can go there as well "IF" he's healthy already.

Having Bogdanovich alone is a big win for the Knicks already knowing that they only traded some bench players, but adding Burks that is shooting close to 40% on the three-point area is a huge win for them. TBH, I'm considering them the winner right now over the Pacers who got Siakam.
Yep, that's pretty much my take on the situation, Knicks did a very good job in getting two excellent shooters in Bogdanovic and Burke without loosing any of ther starters and on top of that Bogdanovic deal expires next year which means they should have no problems trading him if they want. And as a Croiat and big fan of Bogdanovic I am happy that he finally left that God awful Pistons team as he deserves to be somewhere better and more competitive due his skillset.

At the moment Knicks have one of the deepest rosters and I could see them even reaching conference final.
One of the deepest rosters indeed, and right now, they still don't have their main center who is an effective paint defender as well in Mitchell Robinson.
As for both of them, it's good that they already left that awful team because they will have no future there, and knowing that they are in their 30s already, they are near their post-prime years. I would hate to say this, but if all of the players on the Knicks roster are healthy, I think they can beat the Celtics in the playoffs. Sixers? Bucks? They can win against them in 6 games for sure.

On the other hand, there's one player from the Pistons who requested a trade, and that is Killian Hayes, but instead of trading him, they just waived him because he's been a very awful player ever since he got drafted. I mean for a 7th pick, his stats are too low

Trade deadline has passed and I don't see any news about Lakers doing something about it. While they've lost against the Nuggets, I think that it is good that there's no trade for them.

Most of the fans have heard about D'Lo getting traded as the rumors weeks ago. But now, that the deadline is done then that only means so much for him but he also said that he don't want to focus on it.

Kyrie back to Nets, for real? I was surprised.
Russell played very well in the remaining days before the trade deadline and that might be the reason why the Lakers chose to let him stay instead of trading him.
Lebron wanted to win a title on the Lakers but TBH, the current roster of the Lakers isn't enough to be a playoff contender. I might be wrong though, but I just hope that they will not get swept again in the playoffs if they clinch.

As for Kyrie back to the Nets, I don't know if the Mavericks will like it. I mean the Nets don't have enough assets to attract the Mavericks. Maybe if they will include Mikal Bridges in the trade then it's possible, but aside from that, the Nets have nothing.
310  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia April 20 WBC junior welterweight title on: February 10, 2024, 01:01:41 AM
I just hope that this fight will not be the same as the Haney-Kambosos fight where it's just very boring to watch because both are counter-punchers.

Anyway, this might be different because Haney is known for his counter-punching abilities and patience while Garcia on the other hand is an explosive boxer that can counter as well. Garcia wanted to redeem himself after that devastating loss against "Tank" Davis, but he instead went to a title fight against one of the best in his weight class. I mean I want Garcia to win, but Haney is just better, the way he fights is just awesome. I'd go with Haney with this one as well.

In case we all forgot they had a face-off and a thrash talk inside the ring 3 years ago here is the video

Ryan Garcia & Devin Haney Face-Off, Exchange Words Ahead of Potential Fight
I watched the video, and I could say that both of them already have a good history just based on that interview.
Anyway, the time has come for both of them to prove who is the "real champion".
311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your view and your opinion about Ethereum? on: February 09, 2024, 11:22:54 PM
In terms of safety, Ethereum is on top of all the altcoins out there because it has been there for a very long time, and it has a huge community as well.
On the other hand, though, some smart contract platforms are gaining popularity just because of the very low fees when they're using their blockchain. I mean let's face it, it's very annoying to make a transaction that will cost you 4-5$ or even higher. That's what Ethereum is right now, and compared to altcoins, I would rather use them rather than Ethereum.

Nevertheless, Ethereum is a good coin to hold because I believe that the higher the market cap is, the lower the risk on it as well. On the bull run, it will perform better of course like other top coins, and with the Ethereum ETF possibly being approved anytime this year, I'm not expecting an immediate rise in its price but maybe it would be beneficial for it in the long run.

Well, I'm not holding too much ETH currently, but I have a position on it still.
312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FTX to refund customers at Bitcoin's prices below $18,000 on: February 09, 2024, 11:06:29 PM
I thought this FTX drama would be over already, but there is still some news to it.
From the perspective of the one who lost their money because of this shitty exchange, I guess that would be better than just losing all of it. I mean when the incident happened, the price of Bitcoin was at that price wasn't it?

It would be a relief for those who lost their money, but the million-dollar question is, "Will they do it?" or they will just be like Mt. Gox who are teasing the investors who lost their Bitcoins back then? Well, if they will really do it then good especially now that they're trying to resume the operation. That move from them can be a start to rebuilding the reputation of the exchange itself. Nevertheless, it's a good move by FTX "IF" they will do it.
313  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies how do you feel when your post is criticised. on: February 09, 2024, 02:03:09 AM
The forum is filled with members, who have grown with experience and are ready to share good knowledge and information about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies to the younger members .however, I will advice any newbie who is been criticised to take it as a corrective measure and learn from his mistakes.
No. Do the opposite. If high-ranked members criticized you, do the same for them. Tongue Criticize them for criticizing you.  Grin
Of course, I'm pretty much sarcastic with that one. Newbies must know the term "humility" especially when they're starting.

I don't know the last time I got criticized here when I'm still a newbie because of my posts. There might be some who criticized me but chose to ignore all of them. Sometimes, being criticized by other people will make us realize that we are doing something wrong hence, we are making some adjustments. For newbies, it's pretty normal to be criticized especially if we have limited knowledge yet.

As a newbie, don't stop to research. Trust me, I've been watching documentaries when I'm still a newbie, and what's the reason behind that? To learn more, and those learnings will be the ones that I'll try to share here. Smiley Well, I'm still watching educational videos until now to learn even more.
314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's stupidity to have thousands in Bitcoin using a software wallet on: February 09, 2024, 01:27:48 AM
So, I can call myself stupid then? Oh, ok I'm stupid now that I'm keeping thousands of dollars of Bitcoin in a software wallet.
Who's else here is a stupid one like me? Storing Bitcoins in a software wallet called "Electrum"? We are all stupid, and I guess let's accept the reality.  Angry Angry

You used Freewallet when you're starting. A wallet that has a history of negative comments, and they also have a thread here with regards to users losing their money. No big deal about that. What I don't like is that you're saying that "If you put your thousands of Bitcoins in a software wallet, you're stupid." Well, I like the last part of what you said though that we should consider having a hardware wallet but putting it on a software wallet like Electrum is almost the same.

At the end of the day, it will come back to how secure the Bitcoin holder is with their Bitcoin. I can have a hardware wallet, but I have no idea with phishing attacks, and how scammers are scamming people. On the other hand, I can have a software wallet like Electrum, and still prevent myself from getting hacked or scammed. This is where you can apply the quote "Knowledge is power."

Anyway, good advice for OP still. If you're comfortable when you're using hardware wallet then there's no problem. Same goes with software wallets.
315  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 09, 2024, 12:59:02 AM
Leon rose was cooking today.  I might be biased as a knicks fan but landing bogdanovich and Burks for 4 bench players and not having to give up any first round picks is a score.  Knicks needed bench scoring and now have 5 guys shooting over 40% from 3.  2 of the bench players never even saw the court, q grimes hurts but gotta give to get.  Knicks got way better today.  Now they just need to get healthy and then the east is now on notice.
No bias here whatsoever. I'll agree with what you said.

Having Bogdanovich alone is a big win for the Knicks already knowing that they only traded some bench players, but adding Burks that is shooting close to 40% on the three-point area is a huge win for them. TBH, I'm considering them the winner right now over the Pacers who got Siakam. Yes, having Siakam is a big addition to the team, but adding Anunoby which is a defensive player, Bogdanovich, and Burks which are both sharpshooters is a better pick (at least for me). For sure, Spike Lee is happy with this one.

Siakam to Pacers seems to be the biggest trade for me. I mean maybe I haven't seen anything bigger, but that looks like a good one for the Pacers. They only gave up a few players and some picks, but Siakam should be able to contribute a lot more to them.
If we will consider single trades then Siakam would be, but in terms of the players that each team got on this trade season, the Knicks are at the top. I already said it, but imagine getting a defensive player, and 2 sharpshooters for a bunch of role players? That's a huge win for them.

In a move I can’t say I really understand, the Suns decided to trade most of their bench for Royce O’Neale.
O'Neale is a defensive minded player, and the Suns are at the bottom of the standings in terms of defensive rating, so I guess they considered adding him.

Well, it has come to an end, and we didn't see any big players getting traded aside from Siakam which happened many weeks ago. Hawks-Lakers trade? Nah, f*ck it because both teams decided to let their players stay. Russell has been playing pretty well in their last games as their starting PG which might affected his status on the Lakers. Nevertheless, I expected big names getting traded, but in the end, we are seeing bunch of role players getting traded, bunch of role players getting waived, etc.
316  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: February 08, 2024, 05:54:39 AM
Is there any other option out there? Cheesy
Or I guess I'll twist it because I'm the type of guy who exercises at least once a month. What I mean by exercise is by running, or the common exercise that we know.

What I will do is that, starting from next week, I'll do 1 push for every 2K of the price of Bitcoin until it reaches $100,000. For ex. the price of Bitcoin right now is $44,000, I'll do 22 push-ups for the day and since I'm not a type of person who does push-ups on a daily basis, I might do it on halves (11 on the day, 11 on the night).

What for? I guess just to motivate myself, I just wanted to participate, and to be a little bit strong I guess. Cheesy Anyway, I'll start it next week, nevertheless.
317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are these P2P crypto platforms SCAM? on: February 08, 2024, 03:33:27 AM
I am kind of new to the crypto era, and I am wondering if any of these P2P platforms scammed or legit?

- Paxful
- Bybit
- OKX
- Phemex
- Bitget

Maybe these sound familiar to you but this is my first month into this game and I want to pick the right ones.

Thanks
I've heard all of these exchanges at least once already, and I guess they're still operating right now. Although I'm not using any of them since I'm only using Binance, I guess these are legit exchanges, and many here are using these ones especially Bitget I guess which is the one that most Youtube influencers are promoting non-stop. Cheesy

Since you are asking exchanges for you to make a P2P transaction, I guess it would be better if you will just go on decentralized P2P platforms. Well, I'm using Binance to make P2P transaction and I didn't encounter any problem on it. It's just that, it's centralized exchange and you need to do KYC to access their exchange.

Learn more OP. Watch more educational videos, and don't stop asking here. Also, it would be better if you will just use the search button I guess because there might be some threads here already that has been made in case you have a question.
318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Struggle now to invest in Bitcoin for a bright future. on: February 08, 2024, 02:35:20 AM
~
If we struggle now, we may build a bright future. Even students could save some money from their daily spending and invest in Bitcoin.
Many students now might be aware of the term cryptocurrency or Bitcoin. Me when I'm still a student isn't aware of the term "investing" which is kind of disappointing because if only I knew about investing and cryptocurrency by the time I'm still studying, I might've started investing way earlier.

I only started investing when I graduated from college. Kind of young compared to other, but still late for me because I could've start earlier. Anyway, it's good that nowadays, I'm seeing younger kids being aware of investing, and there are some who are saving at a young age. I'm pretty sure that there are some who are aware of Bitcoin as well, and they might be investing into it already.

Struggling for a better future? I already put it on my mind ever since I started investing because I believe that if you start earlier, you will become a successful one earlier as well, and if I need to struggle just to achieve that then I'll do it.
319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please stop asking for "legal tender status" on: February 08, 2024, 01:51:01 AM
I think a lot of people misunderstand what "legal tender" means.

Legal tender means that the government forces everybody to accept Bitcoin whether they want to or not.
Forcing? Since when did the definition of legal tender changed because based on Investopedia, this is the definition of legal tender:
Quote
Legal tender is anything recognized by law as a means to settle a public or private debt or meet a financial obligation, including tax payments, contracts, and legal fines or damages. The national currency is legal tender in practically every country.
I don't see the word "force" on that definition nor in the whole website. The government doesn't force you to use Bitcoin if it's a legal tender in the country. It's just that they are allowed to use to settle anything including debt or whatever it is. It's like an alternative option, and it's supported by the government.

Well, I'm a bit curious. Is there anybody here who is asking or begging Bitcoin to be a legal tender on their own country? I mean Bitcoin can be used by pretty much everybody in anything as long as the government don't interfere right? As long as they aren't banning it, they can be used in pretty much everything as long as 2 parties agreed to it. Legal tender for me isn't needed at all but correct me please if I said something wrong. Smiley
320  Economy / Economics / Re: Why we should prioritize investment over saving on: February 06, 2024, 03:20:23 AM
Saving our hard earned money have never been a bad idea, but their are certain things we need to consider before thinking of saving, such as inflation.
~
There are many reasons why people are still considering saving their money.

1. There are people who are saving money for emergency funds. I will use myself as an example because TBH, I don't put any money on banks that's not intended for emergency purposes. Yes I'm still saving, but not for the sake of profit, or interest, but I'm saving just in case something bad that happens, and I need money. This is the one that many savers must consider. If they're putting their money in banks because they believe that it will grow there then they're wrong.

2. There are people who are saving their money because they aren't that knowledgeable enough when it comes to investing. I mean when there are people who don't know how to invest, but they want to keep their money safe, banks are their number 1 option. Yes, there's nothing wrong with that. It's just that they don't know the concept of inflation, and the buying power of their money is going down because of it.

So too me we should think of investing more of our money than saving it, so that  inflation wouldn't eat it up.
Telling people to invest instead of saving isn't as easy as you think. There are some people who don't have free time learning anything about investing. There are people who sees investing as a hard thing to do thus, they will not be interested in trying. There are some people who'd rather save it instead of investing because they're afraid that their money might loss if they do it. There are many reasons why people prefer saving more than investing. In the end, it will all comes to how literate that person is when it comes to money.

In my case, I believe that I'm literate enough to know that saving just for the sake of profits is a no-no. I'm always prioritizing investing, but I'm not forgetting to save my money as well.
